In these installations, special membranes penetrated by the thinnest pores are used - the size of these pores is such that only water molecules can penetrate through them, and larger molecules of impurities and membrane ions are delayed. This method is good because it minimizes the consumption of water and electricity (after all, heating and cooling are not required here), but it has a drawback - not too high speed of water purification. Therefore, today, membrane distillers are of little use in industry, but find the widest laboratory application.

At least in large doses. And the reasons for this are very simple.

Distilled water has several negative properties:

  • It has low organoleptic qualities, that is, simply put, is tasteless. Or rather - it does not have the smell and taste characteristic of ordinary drinking water;
  • She does not quench her thirst;
  • She, being cleared of salts and minerals, can not make up for their lack in the body.

The whole thing lies precisely in the absence of salts, minerals and ions - they determine both the taste of water and its beneficial qualities for the body. We feel thirsty, not only because the body has lost a certain amount of water, but also because it has disturbed the water-salt balance (since some of the salts also come out with sweat, urine, etc.). And if you drink distilled water, then the effect will not be achieved, thirst will remain unfulfilled.

Of course, a single use of a small amount of distilled water is unlikely to cause negative consequences, but if you drink such water constantly, then the body will undergo negative changes. In particular, due to a violation of the water-salt balance, a malfunction occurs in metabolic processes, and the mineral composition of the blood changes. There are also physiological changes in the nervous system (again due to a violation of the mineral composition), in some parts of the brain and other organs.

So it’s better not to risk it and not to drink distilled water. Paradoxical as it may seem, even the simplest tap water in a metropolis is much healthier and safer for our body than the purest distilled water.

Such a connection between water and health is not accidental: there is no absolutely pure water on the Earth, and all living things have to consume water with varying degrees of mineralization. Therefore, the human and animal organism, adapting to external conditions, learned to get the minerals, salts and trace elements it needs from water. Too pure water is harmful.
