Door slopes for the entrance door from mdf. Step-by-step instructions on how to make door slopes from mdf panels with your own hands. MDF slopes for entrance doors - a practical and attractive solution

Installing a new door is a joyous occasion for every owner. However, the work is not limited to just installing the box and the canvas - in the end, it is imperative to arrange the slopes so that the structure looks beautiful and organic.

To carry out this activity, of course, you can invite a specialist. However, does it make sense to overpay for the services of a third-party master, if such a simple work can be done on your own?

For the design of slopes (- article), materials such as plaster, panels based on polyvinyl chloride, drywall and MDF panels are most often used. Explore the guides presented, choose the design option that suits your case, and get to work.

First step. Seal all the gaps between the base and the door frame with polyurethane foam. Let the foam harden and carefully trim off any excess blowing with a sharp knife. Gently sand any irregularities with sandpaper.

Step two. Proceed with surface treatment for future finishes. Apply a coat of primer to ensure better adhesion of the plaster to the surface.

The primer usually has to be applied in several layers. Be guided by the situation - as a result, you need to get a perfectly flat and smooth surface. Apply a new layer of primer only after the previous leveling layer has completely dried.

Step three. Start plastering. Buy ready-made facade plaster or prepare a solution yourself from a lime mixture, clean fine sand and cement.

Start plastering from the top door jamb. Lay the mixture in a thick layer. Smooth out and remove excess filler with a wooden strip.

For additional reinforcement of the outer corners, fit a perforated corner profile. It must be pressed a little into the still damp plaster mixture.

Let the starter coat dry completely and apply a finishing coat of the plaster mixture. It should be more subtle. The main task of this layer is reduced to leveling small irregularities. Wait until the finishing plaster is completely dry. Simple door slopes are ready.

Plastering is the most budget-friendly option for decorating slopes. Whether to give preference to this method or choose some other way of finishing - each owner has the right to decide for himself.

Beautiful and inexpensive slopes can be made from plastic panels. First, the frame is prepared, and then the finishing is performed directly.

Frame

For the frame, prepare a timber with a section of 2x4 cm. Plastic panels will be attached to the frame.

Saw the timber into blanks according to the dimensions of the future slopes. Secure 4 perpendicular planks to each wall portion of the doorway. Attach 3 strips to the top. Use nails to fix the elements.

Side elements

The finishing panels should be slightly wider than the surfaces to be decorated with them. The trim elements will need to be bent so that they beautifully “beat” the corners.

The plastic panels have a hollow structure from the end. Regular voids are present along the length of the elements. To shape the panel into the desired shape, make appropriate cuts along the voids mentioned. An ordinary stationery knife will help you with this.

If desired, even columns can be trimmed with plastic panels, so there will definitely not be any problems with finishing the corners of the slopes. The joints will be barely noticeable.

Make the cuts only on the back of the trim elements.

Attach the cut modules to the frame. For fixing, you can use screws or small nails. Fix the bent elements to the wall surface. Work in this order:

  • define the border of the trim element;
  • make five holes in the wall so that in the future they will be covered by the edge of the panel;
  • drive wooden plugs into the prepared recesses;
  • screw the panel to the wooden plugs with self-tapping screws (nail it in).
  • Install all panels according to this algorithm.

Perfect door slopes can be made from drywall.

First step. Drill holes along the entire perimeter of the opening at a distance of about 200 mm. Drive the dowels into the holes and screw the screws into the dowels, without slightly tightening the end.

Step two. Determine the appropriate dimensions for the starter guide rail. To do this, you need to measure three sides of the opening. Cut off the guide according to measurements.

You can make the upper guide along the width of the opening, since in the future, the side sheets will rest against the upper slope. You can make the side guides a little shorter.

Step three. Screw the starter rail to the wall using self-tapping screws. The long side, in this case, should be located outside the door slope, and the short one - inside.

Fourth step. Mark strips of the required size on the drywall sheet. Cut the drywall according to the markings.

It is very important to follow the cutting technique. Otherwise, the cut edges will be ugly.

To cut, attach a long, even object, such as a piece of a fixing profile, to the scribe line. Cut through the top layer of the paper. Gently tap the cut strip from the back of the sheet to break through the plaster, then cut through the second paper layer.

Fifth step.Prepare the glue mixture. Follow the instructions specifically for your adhesive.

Sixth step. Apply a homogeneous adhesive mass to the back of the drywall strips. Also, you need to glue the pre-mounted dowels with glue.

Seventh step. Proceed directly to the finish. Guide the edge of the strip into the starting guide. Align the trim and then press it against the base. Fix the side slopes in the same way. Remove excess glue immediately, otherwise in the future it will lead to deformation of the drywall.

The slopes must be supported with spacers while the glue dries.

The gaps between the base and the drywall can be filled with removed excess glue.

Allow the slopes to dry for 12-24 hours and you can start finishing: putty, painting or other finishing of your choice.

Such slopes will serve for many years without any complaints.

Beautiful door slopes can be made from MDF.

First step. Prepare the foundation for future door slopes. To do this, treat the base with a simple lime-cement mixture. Let the mixture dry and apply a primer over it.

Step two. Cut the MDF into three slopes of the required dimensions. Before starting cutting, carefully measure the angles of joining the sides of the opening. Next, you need to cut the ends of the trim pieces according to the measured angles.

Before proceeding with the installation of the panels, make sure that the joints are correct. To do this, attach the elements to be connected to each other. Try not to have any gaps - they will ruin the look of the finish.

Step three. Apply the required amount of adhesive mixture to the top of the doorway. Press the appropriate trim to the adhesive and support it until the adhesive is completely dry. Fix the side elements in the same way.

For the best possible fixing of the elements, place spacers between them.

Hide the gaps between the base and the fixed slopes with plastic corners. Use liquid nails or other suitable glue to secure the corners.

Try to choose panels for the manufacture of slopes, the appearance of which would be as close as possible to the appearance of the door leaf. This finish will look as holistic and beautiful as possible.

Thus, a wide variety of materials can be used to equip door slopes. Choose the appropriate option, follow the instructions provided, and you can cope with the tasks as well as any specialist.

Happy work!

After installing the window, the adjacent walls () do not look aesthetically pleasing. You can correct the situation by finishing the window opening with MDF panels. This material is used quite often for and door. In the article, we will talk about the main advantages and disadvantages of MDF panels, the available varieties, and most importantly, we will describe the entire process of finishing the slopes with their help.

MDF panels have their own distinctive features in comparison with panels from, and. Among the main advantages are:

  • A variety of colors available on the construction market.
  • Material availability.
  • Attractive appearance.
  • The density of the material, which creates additional sound and heat insulation.
  • The lightness of the material, and therefore - an insignificant load on the surface and ease of transportation.
  • Ease of installation.
In addition to the above advantages, the environmental friendliness of this material should be noted. MDF panels are made by pressing wood chips under the influence of high temperatures and pressure. Carbide resins are used as a binder, which are absolutely harmless to the environment. In addition, MDF panels are not affected by light, they do not fade. Among the negative characteristics of this material should be mentioned:
  • They break easily and cannot be restored.
  • They do not withstand high levels of humidity, which means that they can only be installed in dry rooms.

Types of panels for window decoration

Depending on the manufacturing method, there are several types of panels:
  1. Solid pressed- produced by pressing wood chips mixed with carbide resins. The surface of such panels is smooth on both sides. They are characterized by average strength and reasonable price.
  2. Laminated - produced in the same way as solid pressed, however, at the final stage, they go through the lamination process. These panels have a special protective film to preserve the quality of the material. The color palette of laminated panels is quite wide.
  3. Moisture resistant - an excellent option for finishing window slopes, as well as surfaces that can be exposed to high humidity in one way or another. They are made without the addition of chemical components under the influence of temperatures and have high strength.

How to do it yourself?

In comparison with other finishing materials, finishing the slopes with MDF panels requires a lot of time and effort. Fiberboard requires both theoretical knowledge and practice. But the final result is worth it - MDF slopes look great in any interior.

Tools and materials

Attention

You should purchase and prepare all the necessary materials and tools for work in advance.

In addition to MDF panels, you will need:
  • Building level.
  • Roulette and pencil.
  • Screwdriver.
  • Electric jigsaw.
  • Polyurethane foam.
  • Special construction stapler.
  • Metal profiles and matching hardware.

Opening preparation

Before installing the panels, carefully prepare the window opening. The surface for subsequent installation should be perfectly flat, but this is extremely difficult to achieve. Therefore, most often the material is attached to wooden beams. Prepare the opening for installation as follows:
  1. Old finishing materials are removed, the surface is cleaned of construction dust and debris.
  2. If there are cracks or cracks on the window, they are covered with epoxy or cement mortar.
  3. The opening is treated with an anti-fungal solution (you can use the Anti-Mold spray).
  4. Prepare the frame from wooden beams and also treat it with an antiseptic.
  5. Install the beams using a building level and fix them with dowels with a plastic sleeve.

How to mount correctly?

Installation of slopes can be carried out in two ways - MDF panels can be attached to a wooden frame or directly to the surface of the slopes using glue or foam. Let us consider in more detail both methods of how to decorate window openings with our own hands.

Installing the frame

Installation of slopes from MDF panels in a frame way allows you to complete the work most quickly. Installation is carried out as follows:
  1. A starting profile is attached around the entire perimeter of the window. The material is fixed with self-tapping screws.
  2. Wooden slats are installed on the other edge of the window.
  3. A pre-sized MDF panel is installed in the profile and fixed on a wooden rail.
  4. At the end, platbands are installed. An F-profile is used for them.
The resulting voids will need to be repaired or.

Glue method

This method can be considered more simplified in comparison with the previous one. For gluing the panels, special glue or polyurethane foam is used. All work is carried out in stages:
  1. The window opening should be cleaned of excess foam and other contaminants.
  2. The surface of the slopes should be filled and leveled.
  3. The necessary measurements are taken and the panel is being prepared.
  4. Glue or foam is applied to each cut out element.
  5. Each fragment is first pressed to the surface and peeled off, and only after 2 minutes is finally fixed. This is done so that there is no excess air, excess glue or foam between the panel and the window slope.
  6. The inner corners are coated with sealant, the outer corners are lined with a plastic corner.
Thus, the glue method requires a minimum of effort and time, and the final result is similar to the previous one.

Installation of platbands: how to glue the corners?

Installation of platbands is the final stage of all work. You can buy ready-made MDF corners by purchasing the panels themselves. As a rule, they are sold complete with them and they are easy to match in color and size. Platbands for windows perform 2 main functions - protecting the assembly seam from destruction and giving a finished look to the entire structure. Platbands are attached to the surface in two ways:
  1. through ;
  2. with the help of "liquid nails".

How to bend the panels?

When finishing elements of a rounded shape is planned, the question arises of how to properly bend the MDF panels. This can be done only if thin panels are selected for installation - no more than 3 mm thick.

The procedure will be as follows:
  1. You will need to make a workpiece from fiberboard and make notches of the sheet across the bend.
  2. Cut pieces of MDF to a suitable size.
  3. Where you plan to fold, draw dashed lines at 5mm intervals. The hinge must be 1 mm.
  4. A mixture must be made from building shavings by mixing it with glue and filling the existing holes with it.
  5. Lay MDF sheet on the template and fix with nails. In this case, nails need to be driven in only superficially for further elimination.
  6. At the end, the workpiece should be removed from the fiberboard, the panels should be sanded and painted.
So, the above recommendations will be a good theoretical basis for self-finishing with MDF panels. As we can see, this is a rather complicated process, however, having completed the task once, you can easily repeat all the steps again. In addition, by doing all the work yourself, you can save your budget on hiring workers.

In contact with

After installing a new entrance door, it remains to update them with brand new slopes. They can be incorporated into the interior design in different ways; drywall, laminate, MDF, PVC sandwich panels, as well as non-standard materials (for example, imitation of natural stone) are suitable for decoration. In order not to spend money on the services of a specialist, the installation of the slopes can be done by hand, following the instructions.

Plastering slopes

Slopes are most often plastered together with the entire apartment when the finish is not completed.

If we are talking about a private house, it is advisable to treat the cleaned opening with an antifungal primer before work and add a little to the solution itself.

Plasterboard slopes

Drywall is a popular material for decorating front door slopes with your own hands. It is inexpensive, reliable and easy to install.

Necessary materials:

  • Drywall.
  • Dowel.
  • Self-tapping screws.
  • Profile guides.
  • Glue.

Required tools:

  • Drill.
  • Roulette.
  • A simple pencil.
  • Rag.
  • Level.
  • Putty knife.
  • The mixer is construction.
  • A hammer.

The procedure to carry out the installation of slopes with your own hands using drywall:

  • Clean the opening from dust, foam residues.
  • Drill connectors for dowels at a distance of 20 cm around the perimeter - it is necessary to improve the adhesion of the material to the surface.
  • Using a tape measure, measure the width and height of the door opening and cut out the guides: two side and one top.
  • Having stepped back from the door lute about 1.5 cm, attach a guide to the screws so that its narrow edge is in the inner part of the slope.
  • Measure the size of the strips for the slopes and cut them out of drywall. When cutting, try so that the edge of the drywall does not crumble and is even.
  • Dilute the glue until a homogeneous, thick sour cream.
  • Apply the adhesive mass in piles to the cut parts of the drywall.
  • Glue the dowels with glue.
  • A drywall sheet is inserted into the guide and pressed.

  • Check the location of the slope with the level, then fix it for 6 hours.
  • Remove protruding glue with a cloth.
  • Periodically tap the surface with a hammer through the trim.

The next day after installation, the slopes can be further processed: putty, paint.

Laminate slopes

Laminate is a floor covering, often used for the slopes of the entrance door, it does not need to be further processed, it resists mechanical stress. DIY finishing has a lot of nuances.

There are two ways to install laminate slopes:

  • Frame installation. With this technology, you can insulate the opening: fill it with mineral wool or polyurethane foam. Lack of design - the strips are placed only in a horizontal position.
  • Adhesive installation. It requires a flat surface of the opening, or it must correspond to the dimensions of the laminate. The laminate is glued to the foam (at low pressure).

The first method is preferable for apartments, the second is universal.

Slopes from MDF panels

Most common finish: Affordable, good looking, easy to install.

Necessary materials:

  • MDF panels.
  • Wooden bars, width 3 cm.
  • Dowel.
  • Self-tapping screws.
  • Liquid nails.
  • Platbands.
  • Decorative corner.
  • Guide bars.

Instruments:

  • Perforator.
  • Drill.
  • Scissors, knife.

Installation of door slopes from MDF - do-it-yourself installation algorithm:

  • Clear the opening.
  • Drill holes for the dowels around the perimeter.
  • After, attach the rails, guides.

  • Measure dimensions and make part templates for slopes.
  • Cut out details.
  • Install the upper part onto the self-tapping screws. Check that there are no gaps.
  • Install the side parts in the guides: inside on nails, outside on self-tapping screws.
  • Paste the outer corners with a flexible decorative corner to hide self-tapping screws, irregularities.
  • Paste the corners inside with a decorative strip and the finish is ready.

After finishing the work, you need to install the platbands. If there is still wallpapering, they are installed after the repair is completed.

Advantages: the finishes look presentable, easy installation.

Sandwich panel slopes

A PVC sandwich panel is two thin sheets of plastic with a layer of insulation (sheet thickness 1 cm).

Materials, tools for installing PVC sandwich panels on the front door:

  • PVC sandwich panel.
  • Profile (start, cover).
  • Liquid plastic.
  • Roulette.
  • Self-tapping screws.
  • Screwdriver.
  • Drill.
  • Screwdriver.

Installation of slopes from sandwich panels, or how to do it yourself:

  • Clean the opening from dust and foam residues.
  • Measure the parts of the sandwich panels (length - width): one upper, two lateral. For convenience, you can cut out a cardboard template so that there are no gaps between the parts of the PVC sandwich panels after installation.
  • Cut the starting profile, attach it to the self-tapping screws (10 cm indents) along the edge. You can not use the profile: make an opening in the foam with a depth of 1 cm, insert the edge of the sandwich panels there.
  • Install the top PVC panel.
  • After that, cut the starting profile to the width of the slope, install it under the ceiling and at the base of the floor. This can be avoided if there is liquid plastic - the cracks can be repaired with it. But do not use a sealant - it darkens.
  • Installation of sandwich panels strips.
  • Close the sections of the sandwich panels with a "cover" profile. Slice and set. An overlap is formed in the corners of the structure.
  • Cut the profile at an angle of 45 degrees at the overlap.

If desired, the space between the PVC sandwich panel and the wall is filled with polyurethane foam. This is done after installing the sandwich panels.

Non-standard solutions

In addition to the above standard methods using popular materials, you can use more original options that emphasize the interior, decorate the front door and surprise your friends:

  • Artificial stone - non-standard finishing of slopes. The main advantage is resistance to mechanical stress (if it is not a plaster model, it is fragile). Not a cheap option, it requires the participation of a specialist.

  • Tile. A type such as clinker (imitation of brick or stone) is suitable.
  • Plastic panels are affordable but unreliable finishes.
  • Decorative plaster - in terms of aesthetics, endurance it has no equal. But you will need to work hard to find a good specialist in this area, because this work requires creativity and professionalism.

Materials can be combined if their properties are similar (details of sandwich panels + stone, laminate + tiles and others).

MDF is one of the most popular materials used for decoration. These panels look very representative and also fit any style. They are very often used for finishing the doorway. Let's take a closer look at how to make slopes on the front door from MDF with our own hands.

MDF slopes - a popular option for finishing a doorway

Material features

For completion, a prerequisite is the removal of even and neat slopes. Often, the owners decide to do everything with their own hands. For these purposes, a wide variety of materials are used, one of the popular options is MDF.

MDF slopes can be used for entrance doors in almost any interior. This material has a number of positive qualities:

  • Strength. Not afraid of moderate blows and most damage.
  • Decorativeness. It looks great, brings an atmosphere of comfort and style.
  • Variety of coatings. It may vary in color and type of top layer: veneer, eco-veneer, PVC, etc.
  • Ease of installation. Easy to handle and install with your own hands, even for a beginner.
  • Imitation wood. The coating mainly imitates a woody texture, it can look like an expensive species.
  • Soundproofing. Provides additional protection against external noise.

The main advantages of MDF panels are considered their strength and ease of installation.

It should be borne in mind that under unfavorable operating conditions, in particular high humidity, as well as when using low-quality material, MDF can climb over time, swell and exfoliate. Also, the coating does not withstand strong shocks and contact with sharp objects.

Insulation of the opening and preparation

The first thing to start with is the preparation of the opening itself. Doing it yourself is very simple. First you need to free the opening from all unnecessary, in particular, from the remains of construction waste. If you are afraid to stain or damage the new door, you can leave a protective film on it or completely remove the canvas for the duration of the work.

First of all, remove dust and seal all cracks with polyurethane foam or sealant. Then you need to take care of applying an antiseptic impregnation or primer. To further isolate the opening from cold and noise outside the apartment, a layer of insulation should be laid along the slopes. Most often used as such a substrate:

  • mineral wool;
  • isolon;
  • synthetic winterizer;
  • polyurethane foam;
  • foamed polystyrene.

The correct finishing of the slopes of the entrance door involves a layer of insulation

An excellent option is the spraying of insulation, but this is a very costly event. To facilitate further cladding and final sealing of the gaps, it is recommended to perform. A small layer will be enough, it is not necessary to display a perfectly flat surface. Special corner profiles are installed at the corners, this will not only facilitate the task of leveling, but also strengthen such a vulnerable part of the slopes.

Marking and cutting

An equally important stage in the process of finishing door slopes than the preparation and installation itself is cutting the necessary fragments. In order to take measurements as accurately as possible, one tape measure will not be enough. Use a square and templates to create original patterns.

You need to start with the bar that you plan to fix in the first place. This is usually the top panel. Please note that in most cases, the edges of the slopes are not straight cut, but go slightly at an angle. All this should be displayed on the MDF. Subsequent elements must be applied after installing the start panel. That is why the process of marking and cutting is combined with the installation.

Cutting MDF panels should start from the top bar

You can cut MDF using a hacksaw, a saw, but a jigsaw is considered the best option. Due to its cutting element, it is possible to obtain a perfect cut without chips and burrs. Plus, you don't need to make any effort.

When working with sidewalls, be sure to take into account the presence of a threshold. This is an important point, as it can significantly affect the height of the side planks.

Installation of panels

In order to install door slopes in the opening with your own hands, you need to complete several stages of work:

  1. First you need to decide on the method of attachment. If the panels do not have a lock connection, the easiest way is to fix them to the frame. As the latter, aluminum profiles or wooden strips can be used, which is more preferable.
  2. Determine the level at which the trim will be placed. In this case, it is important to take into account the thickness of the panels themselves, since with excessive protrusion of material in the opening, the movement of the door leaf may be difficult.
  3. The frame is fixed to the wall with bolts. You will also need a drill for this. From the inside, you can attach the strip to the door frame itself. There is also an alternative to a wooden frame - special guides that are installed at the corners of the opening. This option is suitable for mounting L-shaped panels.
  4. After the frame is fixed, MDF panels are applied to it and all excess is cut off. You can first fix the top bar, and then proceed to the sidewalls, or do the opposite. MDF can be glued to wooden planks with liquid nails or nailed. In the latter case, small nails without heads are used.

Examples of finishing the slopes of entrance doors with MDF panels

In order to eliminate drafts, additionally insulate the slopes and provide a stronger adhesion, polyurethane foam is used. It is important not to smear the MDF in the foaming process, as it will not be easy to clean.

Final finishing

After the polyurethane foam dries up and the glue sets, you can proceed to the final finishing. First of all, it is necessary to cut off all protruding sections of the foam around the edges. This is best done with a paint knife. In order for the foam not to collapse under the influence of the external environment, it must be carefully putty. In order not to smear new slopes, glue them with masking tape.

The final stage in the installation of slopes is the installation of platbands

To give the doorway an ideal appearance, platbands are installed over the sealed slots on the slopes. The last step is masking the joints. If you used nails, then you need to use special mastic to match the finish or furniture stickers.

Thus, you can effortlessly install slopes for entrance doors, both from MDF and other similar material. Everyone can do everything with their own hands, since available materials and the simplest technologies are used for work.

Door slopes made of MDF give the interior a completely finished look. But their installation presupposes compliance with some technological rules that allow achieving the required reliability. The fact is that any violations can lead to undesirable consequences. Although all the work is easily done by hand with a minimum set of tools.

- This is a simple procedure that requires only a certain accuracy and adherence to some nuances. Different materials can be used in the work, but MDF panels are considered the most successful. Their popularity is due to their numerous advantages:

  1. Availability. Indeed, there is now a wide variety of these products that are affordable. All the necessary components can be purchased for them.
  2. Ease of installation. Naturally, if there is no experience, then any finishing work may seem difficult. But it takes a little practice and understand the essence - the work will seem easy enough.
  3. Great appearance. There is a certain rule, which is that all elements must be combined with each other. Therefore, the slopes on the front door must be made from suitable products. MDF - will be an excellent solution in such a situation.
  4. Additional sound and heat insulation. This is an important point that many initially do not take into account.
  5. Safety. The panels are completely environmentally friendly.

MDF panels allow you to create an effective decorative coating and insulate slopes

We must not forget that there are no completely perfect materials. Therefore, disadvantages should also be considered:

  1. Medium damage resistance. Such a product perfectly withstands various shocks due to its high density, but is very unstable to scratches, as well as to other similar influences.
  2. MDF is a bad option for rooms that have high humidity.
  3. Sometimes difficulties arise with the selection of additional elements. The fact is that overhead MDF corners, which have a limited decorative range, can be used for decoration. Therefore, you should think over the overall design in advance.

On a note! Many people mistakenly confuse the decoration of MDF doorways and the installation of extensions on door frames. These are procedures completely different in technology. It should be borne in mind that extensions are perfect for narrow (up to 11-12 cm) and straight openings that are found in interior structures.

Finishing technology

Installation is divided into several stages, each of which depends on the general condition of the opening. It is assumed that all work will be carried out thoroughly.

Training

It all starts with the fact that preparatory activities are carried out. This is especially important for entrance doors. The fact is that they are a link with the external space. Accordingly, this leads to the fact that cold can penetrate through the existing cracks and cracks, and heat can escape.

The following manipulations are performed:

  • The surface is completely cleaned of all unnecessary things. It is necessary to provide in advance to protect the door leaf and adjacent areas (floor, walls) from damage. They are covered with plastic wrap and cardboard.
  • The coating should be carefully examined. If it has traces of destruction, then it is removed completely, to the ground.

On a note! The front door can be full of surprises. The fact is that a lot of wires are passed through the jamb. This is an electric (input) cable, twisted pair to the Internet and more. Therefore, extreme caution should be exercised.

  • If work is carried out in connection with the installation of a new door, then well-cured polyurethane foam is cut off.
  • A layer of plaster or putty is applied. It should completely close all cracks and chips. After drying, everything is covered with a primer, and the joints are coated with a sealant.
  • A layer of thermal insulation is laid. There are various options for this product, which are selected based on the thickness of the installation seam. The fact is that the thicker it is, the more the layer needs to be built up in order to install the MDF details.

Stages of preparing a slope for the installation of MDF panels

Finishing the slopes of the entrance door with MDF panels is a procedure on which the general microclimate inside the house or apartment depends. If you perform the preparatory work poorly, for example, leave cracks and unsealed joints, then there is a high probability of a draft.

Detailing

Do-it-yourself detailing is quite simple. It is necessary to remove all dimensions from the opening and transfer them to a piece of paper. Based on the available data, a diagram of each element is drawn up. Important nuances are taken into account:

  1. The presence of a threshold.
  2. The sequence of the fragments. Namely, the thickness of the horizontal element is subtracted from the two sidewalls.
  3. The total width of the opening, as well as various angles of inclination.

It is necessary to carefully measure the opening, taking into account all the features of the door slope

An electric jigsaw is used for trimming, which can be replaced with a hand saw for wood with fine teeth.

Mounting

Facing the surface of MDF panels occurs in two ways. The width of the opening also plays an important role. If the strips are of insufficient size, then they have to be joined. Of course, this is best avoided. In this case, installation is carried out exclusively on the crate. If it is possible to install solid parts, then an adhesive option can be used.

On a note! MDF has a sheet variation. Such products are great for any kind of work, but they have limitations in terms of the decorative component.

In the presence of a wide door slope, which requires joining of panels, MDF installation is carried out only by erecting a frame

Installing the frame

This method involves the use of a wooden beam that will serve as a support for the parts. There are tips where it is proposed to use a metal profile. This option is great if the walls are sheathed with a common frame.

The technology is as follows:

  • The slats are installed horizontally. Between them, it is advisable to maintain gaps of 30-45 cm.
  • They are attached to dowels.
  • The voids are filled with polyurethane foam or insulation.
  • The prepared parts are tried on to size. Next comes the turn of their fixation. For this you can use self-tapping screws. They are sunk into pre-prepared holes, which are covered or covered with special overlays.

Other technology can be used. In this case, the foam will act as an adhesive. After installing the parts, it is poured into the existing voids. Care must be taken, the composition should not be much.

Polyurethane foam tends to expand, therefore, when filling voids, it is important not to overdo it with the amount of filled material

Glue method

MDF slopes on the door can be mounted without using a frame. This option provides that the parts will be laid directly on the surface. For this, glue is used. This method is perfect when the thickness of the assembly seam is minimal.

The general procedure is as follows:

  • Good initial training is required. It should be borne in mind that it is not always possible to use insulation in this situation. Therefore, all the cracks must be covered, and the areas must be covered with a layer of putty. Everything is treated with a primer.
  • The glue is applied to the wrong side of the parts, which are pressed against the surface. After waiting a little, they are torn off. You should wait some time, which is necessary for the adhesive composition to gain its functions.
  • Further, all elements are set in place. Existing joints are covered or covered with overlays.

Now all that remains is to complete the exterior finish. Plating or simple leveling with putty is perfect for this.
