Interior with parquet. The use of parquet boards in modern interiors: recommendations and advice. Light and bleached

The history of parquet has many centuries, and it begins in medieval Europe of the XIII century. In modern interiors, parquet flooring is still relevant, but thanks to the variety of types, materials, designs and a wide range of prices, choosing it has become a rather difficult task. In this article we will tell you about all the parquet options available on the market today.

What it is?

Parquet is a floor covering that consists of rectangular planks. For its manufacture, different types of natural wood are used. Modern parquet manufacturers offer a variety of types - from individual strips of parquet, from which the pattern is formed, to ready-made, originally textured segments.

Pros and cons

Parquet, in comparison with other types of flooring, has a number of advantages. However, it also has disadvantages. Let's consider them in more detail.

Pros:

  • The main advantages of a parquet floor are a natural pattern that repeats the pattern of a tree, and environmental friendliness (it has no chemical odor, on the contrary, it smells like natural wood, is pleasant to the touch and safe for health).
  • Parquet board, in contrast to laminate, is rather thick, therefore it provides very good sound and thermal insulation. But the thickness of the parquet must be taken into account if it spreads to an apartment with doors already installed.

Minuses:

  • Requires special care and washing with special products. It is negatively affected by temperature changes, high humidity and chemical detergents. Therefore, it is not very recommended for the floor in the kitchen (it can swell) or in the cold hallway (gaps can form between the boards).
  • A parquet board can be easily scratched or pushed through by heavy furniture.
  • Parquet is an expensive material.

Kinds

There are many types of parquet, so before choosing one, you need to understand their features.

Panel parquet is a two-layer board-shield, from which the floor is laid out in a square. Due to the presence of two layers, it is resistant to temperature and humidity changes. It's easy to lay it down. An important advantage is the many variations of patterns. Among the disadvantages are the high price and low wear resistance.

A type of panel parquet is a block parquet made of individual wooden planks, assembled into a finished square of a larger size with a varnish coating. The checkers pattern is easily assembled from such blocks.

Piece type is a separate plank that is attached to each other with grooves and spikes. Such parquet is distinguished by high strength and reliability, since solid wood without veins is used for production. An important advantage is the low price and the variety of patterns that can be folded from individual boards. However, its installation is a rather painstaking work that requires skill and accuracy. Insulation under the cover is also required.

Mosaic, or typesetting the variant is a set of separate planks of different shades and shapes, folded into a small square. This type of flooring will be quite expensive, but it is easier to install, looks rich and comes in many different patterns.

The finished planks from which the artistic pattern is created can be laid in squares, rhombuses, etc.

Modular parquet used in cases where the flooring becomes an important component of the design of the room. Each square panel of such parquet is a complex design pattern. Different types of wood are used for the production of each shield. It is important that they match in density, structure, moisture and heat resistance, etc.

Large country houses and mansions are characterized by elite parquet made of natural wood, eco-parquet with a luxurious texture and a very high price. Solid parquet is a linear solid wood plank. It can be single-lane, two- and three-lane, as well as straight (saw) or curved. Such parquet looks unusual and, as it were, repeats the natural shapes of the tree trunk. Individual planks are used to form the floor covering row by row. It is wear-resistant and durable.

Among the shortcomings, one can note the high price and the inability to make patterns. Externally, a single-strip parquet board is similar, but cheaper than a solid board, which consists of several glued layers of wood coated with varnish or oil.

The strongest and most reliable, as well as wear-resistant type of parquet flooring is a rare end parquet... The block of such a parquet is a square made from the end cut of a tree. Thanks to this, the floor covering can withstand heavy loads. Due to the high price, this type of parquet floor is extremely rare today and, as a rule, only as individual inserts into the pattern.

The palace type has a unique appearance and decoration. It is made of high quality planks of various shapes, from which a unique composition is laid out.

Garden parquetused to cover areas, lawns and paths outside the home. For its manufacture, a wood-polymer composite is used, which holds the temperature well, does not overheat in the sun and does not slip in rain and frost. It has a characteristic parquet texture, which makes the paths look beautiful and well-groomed.

Industrial or industrial parquetare made from the remnants of material from various woodworking, furniture, parquet factories and factories. Thanks to this, it has a low price, but retains all the advantages of a natural wood coating. It's pretty easy to install. It can be made of oak, merbau, ash and other types of wood.

Brushed type has a pronounced texture of natural wood. It is obtained as a result of a special brushing process, when a soft layer of fibers is removed from the surface of the wood, due to which the effect of "artificial aging" is created.

Castle parquet made of bamboo wood using environmentally friendly production technology. It got its name thanks to the fastening in two locks. On the front side, each plank has a groove or ridge, by which they are fastened to each other. The bamboo flooring is environmentally friendly (eco-parquet) thanks to a special production technology.

Bamboo flooring is smooth and hard and also cool in summer and warm enough in winter due to the low thermal conductivity of bamboo wood.

Materials

Parquet quality, durability, heat and water resistance, as well as color depend on the material for its production.

The front side of the parquet is always made of hard or soft wood. In order to give natural wood more hardness and heat resistance, it is subjected to heat treatment. Thermal wood flooring (thermo ash, thermal oak and others) has one drawback - it fades over time in the light. It is used quite often for the production of the top layer of parquet boards.

The most popular wood species in Russia for the production of parquet boards and solid wood are oak and ash. This is a fairly durable species, the flooring of which looks very noble and elegant due to the pronounced texture of the wood. Oak has a light beige tint, bog oak is darker, ash is honey yellowish. Birch parquet as well as natural larch parquet are light in color. Karelian birch is harder and more wear-resistant than ordinary birch.

Beech is easy to work with, strong and durable. Beech parquet has a honey tint.

Maple parquet is a light, almost white flooring. But maple tends to acquire a yellowish, honey tint over time.

Bamboo has a number of advantages over other types of wood, since it is quite hard and moisture resistant, has a very high wear resistance and does not require special care.

Mahogany is a dark wood. The floor covering from it has a high price tag, but is in great demand due to its quality and noble appearance.

Walnut parquet has a warm brown color. European as well as American walnut are very hard wood species, therefore they are in high demand. This is an expensive material, it is moisture resistant and it is difficult to damage it mechanically.

Cherry, hornbeam, chestnut, wenge, lapacho, mahogany and others are also popular wood species for the production of parquet flooring.

If for the production of parquet flooring, as well as piece parquet, one species of wood is used, then for mosaic, artistic, modular parquet and parquet boards, several species are needed at once, which coincide in terms of thermal, moisture, and wear resistance.

For the production of parquet boards, valuable types of wood are used only for the top layer. It is varnished in several layers. The bottom layer is veneer.

Modern parquet is made using not only valuable wood species, but also from inexpensive natural (for example, leather parquet) and artificial materials. Artificial vinyl flooring, which imitates the appearance of natural, has several important advantages. It consists of almost 80% PVC and therefore has very good moisture resistance, wear resistance and elasticity, is not susceptible to chemicals and insects.

An alternative to traditional parquet flooring is cork parquet. For its manufacture, the bark of a cork tree is used. Typically, such a floor covering has several layers. The first layer is a cork backing, followed by fiberboard, then a cork plate. On top of the cork layer, a decorative lacquered wood veneer is placed, giving the cork parquet a more elegant look.

The advantage of the cork floor is good shock absorption (this is especially important for people with musculoskeletal problems), thermal and sound insulation, environmental friendliness and low price. The use of artificial materials for the flooring of the local area is also justified. For the production of garden parquet, plastic (WPC) is often used, since it is least susceptible to moisture, stable and has excellent heat resistance.

Classification

Depending on the density of the wood from which the board is made, a distinction is made between high or low density parquet. Dark brown woods are most often dense. Pink wood (cherry, pear, alder and others) has a lower density.

The grade is determined by the method of cutting the wood from which the parquet is made.

Consider the following varieties:

  • "Select"- high quality expensive parquet, produced by radial sawing. There are no knots or sapwood left on the board, the wood has a uniform color, only slight mineral deposits are possible.
  • "Radial"- also a high quality variety with an even color and no sapwood, but the percentage of mineral deposits on the surface is higher and can reach 60%.
  • The next quality cut is "Standard", it is of high quality, it has no knots and sapwood, a slight difference in shades is possible. Parquet of this type is obtained using mixed sawing.

Parquet "Natural" with a characteristic presence of sapwood and knots in small quantities, as well as a natural difference in shades, also belongs to the variety of mixed sawing.

  • Less quality, but affordable is Rustic parquet... It is obtained as a result of mixed sawing, it has not only knots and sapwood on the surface, but also small cracks, as well as different natural shades of wood on the surface.

Dimensions

The length of a parquet board is usually 2 meters. The thickness of the planks can vary from 0.5 to 8 mm. The average plank thickness is usually 4 mm, this is the best and most common option. The width of the board can also vary and is usually no more than 20 cm.

Colors

Despite the fact that the most common is parquet in light and dark brown shades, today there are various ways of finishing parquet, allowing you to change the original color of the wood and obtain colored parquet. So, there are:

  • Light. Light shades include beige parquet flooring from wood species such as bamboo, birch, pine, larch, ash, maple or oak. Oak parquet is the most popular in Russia because of its strength. It has a light brown tint. Beige parquet is made from walnut, merbau, turbidity, lapacho and others.

  • Dark.Bog oak will be very dark in color. The same dark shade and wenge wood - the color of coffee. It is quite expensive. The dark flooring is made from walnut and mahogany.

  • Colored.Alder, cherry, pear and beech flooring will have a pinkish tint. Among the yellow woods, olive, teak and iroko (flounder) are in high demand. Dissia, yarra, jatoba, paduk brought from Asia and Africa have red color of wood.

The wood can be bleached, brushed or varnished. The whitewashed parquet will be white. Brushed, or artificially aged, will have a strongly pronounced wood texture due to the special removal of the upper soft layer with special brushes. Industrial parquet from antique oak is also produced by brushing. This does not affect the shade of the wood, but the color of the board becomes more pronounced, embossed. After brushing, the parquet is usually oiled rather than varnished in order to maintain the natural relief of the parquet.

Varnishing wood, on the other hand, gives it a glossy shine and a more modern look.

Drawings

The parquet board has many different patterns. Depending on the size of the room, the texture of the parquet board and the tasks that the flooring solves (to expand or narrow the space, give the interior a festive or elegant look, etc.), it is worth stopping at one or another version of the pattern. Drawings can also be combined. Let's consider the options in more detail.

  • "Break", or deck pattern - a common classic pattern, suitable for any room size and interior. Each board is fixed with grooves and ridges on both sides, the boards are laid out parallel to each other. Variations: straight and diagonal, straight deck, double or triple, with offset dies.
  • "Herringbone".This pattern can also be called classic. Planks are laid out at an angle to each other. There are options: diagonal, straight, double tree, with a transverse insert, French with sawed corners, etc.

  • Geometric pattern of squares ("checkers") or from trapezoids, allows you to divide the floor into separate zones. It can be either a regular square of 4-5 dies, or framed (of several shades of wood). If the room is small, then it is recommended to use one shade of wood with an unexpressed texture. Also, to create a geometric pattern, you can use plates of different shapes (for example, squares, rectangles, trapezoids and rhombuses), combining them to your liking and creating a unique pattern.
  • Parquet from pentamino figures (five square bars joined together) can also be laid out in a variety of ways. It takes a lot of work to lay out this pattern, but it looks very sophisticated, especially if you use several different types of wood.

  • Braided patterncreated from 2-3 shades of parquet boards. This pattern looks elegant and neat. May have a more massive look if you use more dies in one segment. Due to the presence of separate decorative inserts in the pattern (square dies), the floor looks interesting and elegant.
  • "Rhombuses"- an unusual graphic pattern, quite catchy, therefore it is recommended to use it not for the entire space of the room, but for individual areas as a border or, conversely, to center the room.

Producing countries

Today, the Russian parquet market offers products from European, Asian and domestic manufacturers. Some foreign firms have factories in Russia, and vice versa, factories abroad supply products for Russian brands (for example, the Russian company Grunwald, which sells parquet flooring made in Germany). The most famous parquet producing countries are Sweden, Finland, Italy, Poland, Russia.

  • Swedish firms Kahrs and Tarkett are widely known in our country. Kahrs offers a wide range of quality parquet flooring from inexpensive to luxury models. Tarkett produces exclusive quality parquet flooring, including exotic wood species (mahogany, merabou, etc.). The elite parquet board is produced by the well-known Austrian company Scheucher.

  • Finnish parquet (Upofloor)- these are quality samples at affordable prices. The company offers products from traditional as well as exotic wood species such as wenge, jatoba, merbau, iroko, etc. The Polish company Barlinek also produces a variety of products, parquet flooring with exclusive patterns at very affordable prices. Eco Parquet is another Polish company that produces affordable parquet from traditional and exotic wood species,

  • Italian manufacturersparquet more than others succeeded in the field of design. In their assortment you can find very stylish designer parquet, attractive both from a high-quality and aesthetic point of view.

  • Due to their reasonable price and good quality, they are in great demand in our country. russian and Belarusian parquet. Well-known in Russia is the German-Russian company Alpenholz, which produces parquet boards of the highest quality at an affordable price.

  • High quality parquet flooring is also produced by the company Panaget (France)with nearly 100 years of experience in the wood floor industry.

Styles

When choosing parquet for a house or apartment, be sure to take into account the overall style of the interior. The parquet must match it, otherwise it will look out of place. In addition, parquet flooring itself plays a huge role in creating the atmosphere of the home, it attracts attention and can perfectly highlight the best and transform the interior.

  • For interior style rustic or country, as well as vintage, parquet flooring without patterns with brushed is perfect. Fading and muted flooring will be more appropriate here than ever.
  • For a Scandinavian interior parquet is everything or almost everything. Typical is mainly light parquet from solid oak, ash, beech and other light species.
  • For classics, as well as the English style, honey shades of parquet with or without patterns are characteristic. Mosaic, panel board, massive parquet or parquet board made of oak or (rarely) other species of rich shades look great in a classic style interior. Quite often, oak or mahogany parquet is chosen for classics.
  • For loft styleparquet flooring in dark brown or black with scuffs is perfect. As a rule, these are solid boards or linear parquet.

Choosing the right parquet floor for your apartment is not as easy as it sounds.

This is easier if you follow a few helpful tips:

  • When choosing a parquet, be sure to consider the general style and color scheme of the room. It is necessary to think over the design concept in advance. Parquet flooring should harmoniously fit into the interior.

  • For an apartment that is too sunny, it is better to choose a lighter color of the floor covering so that the dust on the floor is not so noticeable. The light floor is also able to visually increase the size of the room.
  • If the apartment has several small rooms, then it is recommended to use a single parquet pattern, otherwise the rooms will seem even smaller.
  • The color of the doors should be several shades darker than the floors.
  • Consider the size and shape of the room. A room with modular parquet looks more square, while a room with a narrow strip, on the contrary, is elongated. The smaller the size of the room, the smaller the parquet plank should be. For a small room, it is best to use block parquet lined with patterns. For a large room - an array.
  • For balconies and outdoor areas, it is better to choose heat-resistant parquet or artificial parquet board (laminate), it is less sensitive to temperature extremes and humidity. It is better to use a two-part adhesive rather than a one-part adhesive, as it not only guarantees a high level of strength, but also is not susceptible to mold and bacteria.

  • Keep in mind that parquet flooring changes color over time. Dark floors become slightly lighter, while lighter ones become more golden.

Care tricks

Natural wood parquet requires careful handling and special care. In order for a parquet floor to serve for more than one year and retain its original appearance for a long time, it is important to care for it correctly.

It is important to maintain the temperature in a room with parquet flooring not less than 15 and not more than 25 degrees. In winter, too dry air in a heated room can lead to narrowing of the parquet and the formation of gaps between strips or panels. Therefore, the apartment must maintain a humidity level of 45-60%.

It is also necessary to take care of varnished parquet. Firstly, wet cleaning is best done not earlier than two weeks after the varnish has dried. Furniture should have soft casters that will not damage the shiny varnished surface.

It is also better to wash the floors 1-2 times a week, not more often. Water-based varnish is even more demanding on the level of moisture. It is necessary to ensure that the humidity in the room is no higher than 55 percent, otherwise the parquet will begin to swell.

If, instead of varnish, the parquet is covered with oil, then it also needs to be renewed from time to time. Grouting the old oil locally, only in the place where it is necessary to refresh the oil surface and applying a new layer of oil every few years. Wax and products based on it also do an excellent job of protecting parquet. However, it should be borne in mind that you cannot use a steam cleaner to clean waxed parquet floors. In the case of varnished surfaces, it is possible to clean them with a steam cleaner at the minimum setting.

Also, to protect the tree from the sun, other harmful effects of the environment and to make the floor shine, it is rubbed with wax or mastic.

If the parquet is scratched, the scratches must be removed immediately so that moisture does not penetrate through them. From time to time it is necessary to apply a new layer of varnish (after cleaning the surface from the remnants of the old one) in order to remove scratches and eliminate the possibility of decay and damage to the parquet.

Cleaning at home should only be done with special cleaning agents for parquet. They allow you to wash without streaks from dirt and stains, do not harm varnished surfaces. Surface stains can also be removed with grout or wax.

If the parquet flooring loses color in the sun, carpet or furniture should be placed in this place to create shade. After a while, the place on the parquet, closed from the sun, will return to its former appearance.

Surface stains must be removed carefully using ammonia-free products.

Ideas in the interior

The classic herringbone pattern also looks great in modern interiors. The choice of several types of wood, dark and light, in this case makes the flooring even more sophisticated.

Beautiful design and expensive natural wood are the features of art parquet. This type of parquet floor looks most advantageous in spacious rooms.

The parquet flooring in the classic interior looks luxurious and stylish. Proper care of an expensive parquet floor will keep its surface in its best shape for more than a dozen years.

An example of a minimalist bedroom. Dark parquet looks most advantageous in combination with light, almost white walls.

Light parquet flooring allows you to visually enlarge compact spaces. An example of the advantageous use of parquet flooring in the renovated "stalinkas".

About which parquet is better to choose and about the types of design, see the next video.

Parquet flooring in a modern interior looks sophisticated and stylish if chosen correctly. Among the wide variety of options, it is difficult to choose the right one, so we will focus on the main points of choice and the features of this flooring.

Parquet types

There are several types of parquet used today.

  1. Parquet board - the most common. Consists of three layers. As a rule, the front layer is always made of durable and expensive wood, which explains the maximum durability and special beauty. Easy to fit thanks to the special grooves on the edges.
  2. Block parquet is small thin wooden logs up to 50 cm long. Some parts also have grooves. This is a classic option that needs more careful styling and special care. Its quality directly depends on the top layer.
  3. Artistic parquet usually made to order for a room of a certain size. A complex geometric ornament is created due to the method of mounting elements of different sizes and colors.
  4. Modular parquet - this is a simplified artistic one, only the pattern is created on each separate module. Usually they are represented by large squares of the same size with repeating patterns.

Each of the listed types is worthy of attention.

Advantages and disadvantages of parquet

Like any flooring, parquet has its pros and cons.

Benefits:

  1. Good heat and sound insulation due to the thickness of the parquet board.
  2. Environmental friendliness and safety. This is natural wood that will not harm your health and has a pleasant smell of natural wood.
  3. Appearance. The parquet repeats the beautiful wood pattern that will not leave anyone indifferent.
  4. Versatility. Suitable for almost any interior.

Disadvantages:

  1. Capriciousness in operation. To care for parquet you need special products. Periodic polishing is required. It can swell from excessive moisture (therefore, do not pour water on it or wash it with a large amount of water), and crack from cold and dryness.
  2. Tenderness of the material. It is easy to ruin it: scratch or push through with heavy furniture. Light scratches can be hidden with polishing.
  3. The cost of material and installation. It will be problematic to lay the floor yourself, it is better to contact a specialist.
  4. May creak if not installed correctly. Parquet swelling or drying out may also be the cause.

Varieties of wood

Depending on the type of coating used, the degree of deformation from moisture and resistance to mechanical stress changes.

  1. Oak is durable and suitable for a variety of environments. Thanks to its clear structure, it fits perfectly into many spaces.
  2. Teak is resistant not only to moisture and stress, but also to insects and fungus. For this reason, it is a favorite tree for open spaces.
  3. Hornbeam is one of the most expensive breeds. It is distinguished by its special beauty after polishing and increased strength, but at the same time it is difficult to process.
  4. The wenge tree has an antibacterial effect.
  5. Ash is good for rooms with increased stress, resistant to moisture, but does not like temperature fluctuations.
  6. Bamboo is environmentally friendly and will last a long time. Has a strong herbaceous odor and does not tolerate scraping.
  7. Beech does not tolerate water and high temperatures, but it is easy to process.
  8. Maple is resistant to almost anything. Disadvantage - after a couple of years, the tree begins to darken a little.

Parquet color

The color of the flooring must match the design. The good news is that they are all natural. And even yellow, pink and red will go well together.

Dark tones look rich and effective, however, you should be extremely careful with them. Small debris and dust will be visible on a dark floor, so be prepared for daily wet cleaning. But chips, small scratches and cracks can be easily hidden with special waxes if the texture is matte. Glossy gives out all the visible flaws at once.

Another nuance is a visual decrease in the area of \u200b\u200bspace. The subfloor visually narrows the space, so it is not recommended to install it on already small areas. Or try to alternate darker elements with lighter ones.

Dark lacquered parquet floor reflects light well, therefore it is often used in small, but with a sufficient number of light sources, rooms.

Light shades are a completely different matter. They are able to expand and revitalize even a tiny faceless space, especially if the surface is varnished. It will reflect the sun glare, creating the illusion of a watery surface.

The main thing is to choose everything correctly in accordance with the lighting.

The cold tones that are characteristic of ash, hornbeam and maple will fit well where the sun's rays fall almost all the time. If there is little natural light, then choose warmer ones (alder, beech).

Also consider the brightness of the furniture. Both similar lags and contrasting ones look good. When creating contrast, do not overdo it: use no more than 3 primary colors.

If, over time, the shade ceases to suit you, you can change it a little or refresh it with a special oil, varnish or stain. But first, try the composition on an inconspicuous area.

Living room

Living room parquet should match style, colors and furnishings.

Despite the fact that natural tones are suitable for any room, for the living room it is better to dwell on elements with a pattern. And the larger the room, the richer the pattern.

As for functionality, select material for the living room with maximum resistance to mechanical damage.

Kitchen

Despite the fact that most housewives prefer to see tiles, as they are more practical, parquet in the kitchen is also gaining popularity every day.

For the kitchen, select wood that is highly resistant to moisture and temperature fluctuations. Teak, oak, hornbeam and wenge work well.

Ideally, the elements should be locked together. The presence of even a small amount of glue will make it impossible to replace individual parts of the floor, if the need arises.

Many people prefer to varnish the logs in the kitchen, and they do it right. Additionally, protected wood can last longer, and the varnish layer can be renewed if necessary. The main thing is to choose a high-quality composition.

Bedroom

The floor base of the bedroom should set you up for relaxation and not be replete with drawings. To prevent the interior from looking boring, let the parquet in the bedroom contain 2-3 semitones.

Consider the expected load. If there is a lot of heavy furniture in the room, then the material should be chosen more stable. But practice shows that even one double bed already gives a considerable load, so consider this parameter in the first place.

Children

When choosing parquet for the nursery, do not forget that unpredictable situations can occur in this room. A child may accidentally spill water, drop a heavy object, or get dirty. Accordingly, the main criteria are moisture resistance and surface texture.

Environmental friendliness also plays an important role. Give preference to lags that are minimally processed with various compounds, but as smooth as possible. And also make sure that they are close enough to each other.

As for color, here you can give free rein to imagination - children love everything bright and unusual.

Bathroom

Contrary to popular belief that parquet flooring for a bathroom is completely inappropriate, experts say that with the right work and properly selected materials, the floors will serve for many years.

Opt for the latest development from scientists - merabu coating. The fibers in it are so close to each other that they will not even let steam through. This is due to the homeland of growth - the tropics, where the air humidity constantly exceeds 80%.

Take care of the protection of the seams in advance: buy only special glue, carefully prepare the base before work. And be sure to fill the places near the walls with high-quality waterproof sealant.

Parquet in various interior styles

If you are an adherent of a certain style, then you will definitely be interested in the question of a well-chosen floor base that would fit into the overall design. Let's dwell on the most popular destinations for today - classic, Scandinavian, ethno, art deco and hi-tech.

  1. To do art deco more interesting, use a bright wood that stands out against the background of objects and textiles. The main note of this trend is individuality.
  2. For the cold high tech light logs without a pattern or with insignificant natural wood fibers are perfect. It is better to choose a matte texture - this will partially eliminate coldness and angularity.
  3. IN ethno exotic wood species will perfectly fit in the direction. You can opt for a more trivial one, but let it be dull. This will add completeness to the interior, create an atmosphere of suburban comfort.
  4. Scandinavian style implies the use of exclusively light natural shades, so gray and muted sand tones, barely differing from white, will do just right. Artistic drawing is inappropriate here, but the prominent wood fibers will add even more comfort.
  5. In the classic direction looks great oak or alder of dark saturated shades. Opt for a modular version, piece or art - this will add a touch of royal nobility.

As for other areas, consider, first of all, furniture and general lighting when choosing a board.

Interior styling ideas

There are 5 main styling methods:

  • Deck laying implies installation in a straight line, diagonally or randomly with a certain offset;
  • Herringbone styling allows you to create the most firmly fastened base with virtually no gaps;
  • Laying with a ladder a little more complicated, it does not give such strength, but parquet in the interior looks more harmonious, visually lengthens the room;
  • Laying in squares, or flip flops, allows you to visually increase the area, while creating a beautiful symmetrical pattern;
  • Laying out a beautiful ornament near the walls (frieze), which is the decoration of the whole room;
  • Laying out with braid makes it possible to use different shades, which increases the similarity with weaving from a vine.

It is not at all necessary to get hung up on only one method of mounting boards. Competent combinations and small inserts will allow you to create your own original pattern on the floor.

Care and maintenance

In order for the parquet to serve for many years, it is necessary to take care of it.

Let's dwell on the basic rules of operation.

  1. As strong as the floor is, try not to drop heavy objects on it and use protective rubber furniture footrests.
  2. Do not allow frequent contact of the floor with water, unless we are talking about a waterproof coating. It is recommended to wash it about 2 times a month with special means, but it is permissible to wipe the base with a damp, well-wrung out soft cloth at least every day.
  3. If your home is very dry, use a humidifier. The increased dryness of the air, as well as its humidity, gradually lead to drying out and deterioration of the floors.
  4. An excellent care product is wax, which should be rubbed thoroughly on each board every 1-2 months.

When choosing a parquet board for your home, you need to take into account all the nuances, but still, environmental friendliness and sustainability should be in the first place. No harsh chemical smell, integrity and well-finished edges are all signs of a good material that will not harm your health and will serve you for many years.

Parquet floors are a beautiful solution for the interior of any room. At the same time, high requirements are imposed on them in terms of aesthetics, sanitary and hygienic standards and thermal and sound insulation. As a rule, the use of this floor material is advisable not only in residential buildings, but also in educational institutions, theaters, museums, sanatoriums.

What are the features?

The main advantages of parquet floors are their beautiful appearance and durability of the coating. They are also characterized by minimal sound transmission and thermal conductivity. But it is not easy to arrange parquet floors, since they are subject to high requirements in terms of evenness, smoothness and surface strength.

Each type of parquet consists of a covering, a layer and a base, which are various elements - from wooden logs to subfloors and prefabricated fiberboard screeds. The layer can be leveling layers based on a mixture of cement, sand or polymer mortar, as well as bedding, hydro- and. As for the coating, it can be piece and mosaic, in the form of parquet boards or boards with different sizes and patterns.

How does the floor work?

Modern parquet floors have a complex structure, therefore, when laying them, professionalism and the ability to work with such material are required. Quality installation starts with surface preparation. Since parquet board is a high quality floor covering, the permissible difference in surface height cannot be more than 1 mm per linear meter. Therefore, in addition to leveling the base with a screed, you will need to use a self-leveling mixture. The final leveling is provided by plywood - it is a kind of intermediate link between the parquet and the concrete base.

We carry out the screed

The installation of a parquet floor involves laying a cement-sand screed or a wooden "black" floor on the logs. However, the screed is most often used. Certain requirements are imposed on it:

  1. Smoothness of the surface. Alignment is mandatory if there are defects on the surface.
  2. Compressive strength. Depending on the thickness of the floor covering, experts advise using a strong screed. Its minimum thickness is 40 mm.
  3. Low humidity. Since wood is hygroscopic, it will deform over time. The moisture content of the base for parquet should be no more than 5%. To make the screed dry faster and better, a waterproofing material is used.

Plywood as an insulating material

Parquet flooring is a complex process in which it is important to provide for many details. For example, the installation technology involves the creation of an intermediate layer of plywood. Its purpose is to compensate for the "movement" of the parquet as a result of changes in humidity in the room. Before many experts suggest covering the screed with a waterproofing material - this will protect the wooden floor from moisture accumulation and further decay. It is best in such cases to use a foil film or a special primer based on polyurethane.

The substrate is created on the basis of moisture-resistant plywood up to 20 mm thick - it depends on the thickness of the parquet strip. It is best to cut plywood into squares:

  1. So the probability of plywood tearing off the surface will be lower.
  2. The squares will be sized to match the planks, so the floor and subfloor will exhibit the same amount of expansion and contraction, thereby increasing the durability of the flooring.

Plywood is glued to the base and additionally fastened with self-tapping screws or dowels. After installation, the parquet floors are finished and scrapped.

Choosing glue

To fix plywood and parquet flooring, quality glue is required. It can be of several types:

  1. Dispersion (water-soluble). Such glue is optimal in terms of price and quality, shows excellent adhesion, is elastic and easy to use. When used, there is no smell, the glue dries quickly. When choosing such a composition, you need to pay attention to the amount of water - the more there is, the more the geometry of the plank will change due to the glue. Dispersion glue should not be used if the floors (parquet board) are made of European tree species - beech, hornbeam, sweet cherry, cherry. They are considered unstable, because the water will cause the planks to warp. Do not use this glue if the planks are too large.
  2. Polyurethane. This glue consists of two components and is excellent for materials that tend to warp and for wide strips. Such compositions are expensive, but they have good adhesion to the surface and the absence of shrinkage. The short drying time means that the installation of the parquet floor must be carried out as quickly as possible.

Screed laying: pros and cons

There is another option for laying parquet boards - without using plywood directly on the screed. Previously, this method was not used, since the adhesives lacked elasticity, as a result, moisture could be sucked into the parquet from the screed.

Today, laying a parquet floor directly on the screed is possible thanks to the application of a waterproofing primer to it. And already on it, a high elasticity glue is applied, which holds the planks in place. In some cases, it is advisable to supplement the backing with a non-woven fibrous material that will compensate for the force of the parquet to come off the base. The technology is good, but too expensive; moreover, the work is carried out exclusively with an even and solid foundation.

Finishing

Once the glue has hardened and the planks have stabilized (this usually takes about two weeks), you can start sanding the parquet. This is done in different ways, gradually reducing the grain of the sanding paper. Before sanding, puttying of all cracks and recesses is required in order to obtain a beautiful parquet floor - as neat and even as possible.

Now you can coat the surface with varnish or oil. It is best to use compounds from the same company that produces the rest of the parquet chemicals. The task of varnishes is not only to make the floor decorative, but also to protect it by creating an artificial film on the surface. Most often, up to 7 coats of varnish are required. Parquet can also be coated with oil, which contains natural ingredients. The peculiarity of such a finish is the ability to emphasize the texture and naturalness of the wood and protect it from moisture. True, the oil coating will need to be updated from time to time.

Warm board or parquet?

How do you make a parquet floor if you prefer a heated system? Until recently, it was impossible to think over such a repair method, since the choice of parquet boards was limited. Today, experts offer more modern solutions that avoid the appearance of gaps on the surface between parquet planks. Of course, any tree reacts to temperature changes and humidity. But in the Scandinavian countries covered with parquet have long been used.

Warm parquet floors can be installed using the "floating floor" method using metal staples. They are needed to attach the boards to each other, which are subsequently laid on the base without fastening. Such a floor will never tear off from the base, because it is not connected with it. The braces allow you to regulate the natural expansion and contraction of the tree, which occurs when temperature and humidity changes. And this is very important if you will be laying parquet on a heated floor.

What wood is parquet made of?

Modern parquet floors have a different basis, since different woods are used for the production of the material - soft, medium and hard. The higher, the stronger it will be, showing a high degree of wear resistance. Soft wood is found in birch and cherry, medium wood is found in oak, ash, merbau, hard wood is in ebony and jatob.

An important role is played by the stability of wood, that is, the degree of its deformation during temperature changes and changes in humidity. The most stable breeds are teak, oak, merbau, beech. However, the latter is highly sensitive to changes in the level of humidity in the room. All tree species, on the basis of which parquet flooring is created, can be divided into color groups. Light floor material will be obtained from beech, maple, ash, birch, hornbeam, white acacia. Such wood darkens slowly and looks beautiful indoors. Pink tones are characteristic of pear, cherry and alder woods, red tones can be observed in merbau, jatoba, dussia and other rare tree species. Brown parquet is obtained from walnut, teak, ipé-lapacho wood.

How is parquet classified

Parquet flooring is beautiful and bright. But it is important to consider a few points before choosing a material. First, the type of cut plays an important role - it can be radial or tangential. Radial cuts are considered durable, reliable, and require parallel lines along the entire length of the die. Tangential sawing is characterized by arched lines and is considered the most affordable.

Secondly, you need to carefully consider the wear layer - that is, the strip layer from the front surface to the upper edge of the spike. Thirdly, the thickness of the parquet determines how long and reliably the floor will be used. And most importantly, the fastening of the spikes and grooves must be tight and tight while maintaining a gap of 1 mm.

Solid board

The modern market offers a wide range of wood flooring - parquet, solid board, parquet board. Massive board (GOST 8242-88) is created from solid wood and has large dimensions, unlike parquet. Its distinctive feature is the chamfer, which is located along the perimeter of the board. It highlights each board in the floor and emphasizes its size. Solid wood boards can be supplied sanded or already treated with varnish, oil or wax. In the second option, the parquet floor will not need to be processed.

In the standard version, the mounting technology involves fixing a massive board with glue and self-tapping screws. When laying this variety, you need to remember a few rules:

  1. Varnishing is possible only after installation.
  2. Solid wood does not fit with water-based or solvent-based adhesives.
  3. The "floating" method is not suitable for laying solid boards.
  4. Do not fix the board to a cement and sand screed.

Most often, installation errors occur when boards are incorrectly selected in width, the wrong glue is used, or the material is not pressed sufficiently.

Parquet

The most beautiful is the parquet floor. The photo shows how many interesting solutions you can implement in your home. Block parquet is made of solid wood with a thickness of 14-22 mm and corresponds to GOST 862.1-85. If the length and width of the planks are multiples, then you can lay out the pattern in the form of a deck or herringbone. Parquet planks are left and right, and if the herringbone or square pattern is laid, the same number of both planks will be required.

Parquet planks are securely connected to each other thanks to ridges and grooves. If the implementation of artistic elements or borders is required, then modular elements are used for this. The parquet plank is fixed with special nails using a pneumatic gun. All types of block parquet are semi-finished products that, after laying, require grinding and processing with a protective compound.

Parquet laying is performed with a number of reservations:

  1. If the parquet is chamfered, it must not be varnished after installation.
  2. Parquet is installed only by gluing to the base (the "floating" method is not suitable).
  3. Parquet is not directly attached to the screed.
  4. If the installation was carried out with dispersion glue or a solvent-based composition, then sanding should be done immediately.

If installed improperly, a wooden parquet floor will at least look unaesthetic, and as much as possible, the varnish layer will begin to crack, cracks form, and the integrity of the base structure will be violated.

After preparing the base, you can start laying the parquet:

  1. Laying starts from a long wall: the first board is applied to the wall in the corner, a wedge is installed between them for a gap between the flooring and the walls.
  2. Subsequent planks are laid along the wall. Observe the accuracy of joining the ridge and grooves.
  3. All subsequent boards are stacked in the same way.

Parquet board

This floor material complies with GOST 862.3-86 and is a multi-layer structure. The top layer is solid wood of valuable species, the middle one is pine or spruce blocks, the bottom layer is needed to stabilize the base and is made of plywood or coniferous veneer. All elements are reliably glued together with a special waterproof glue, which ensures uniformity and strength of adhesion of all layers. Such parquet floors received good reviews, since the surface is flat, smooth and beautiful.

When using this variety, you must carefully follow the installation steps. The parquet board can be laid in a "floating" way, while it is necessary to monitor the moisture level of the base and the gap with the wall.

Features of care and repair

Natural wood flooring needs careful and careful maintenance. The most important thing is that the room should be provided with an optimal temperature and humidity: 20-24 degrees with a humidity of 45-60%. Dust and sand are considered the real enemies of parquet flooring, which lead to rapid abrasion of the varnish or oil coating. You can clean such a floor with a damp cloth or a vacuum cleaner, but not washing!

To avoid scratches, special felt pads should be glued to the furniture legs. Parquet should be laid in rooms that are well heated in winter, since a sharp drop in temperature and humidity will lead to rapid destruction of the floor.

How to repair a parquet floor? If the problems are minor, such as scratches, they can be removed with a touch-up pencil or filled with putty. Such areas only need to be sanded after drying and varnished. If water is spilled onto the parquet floor, the damaged area may deform. In such cases, it is often necessary to remodel the parquet or lay a new one.

Another major problem with parquet flooring is creaking. With use, it can get stronger and stronger. There are several ways to fix the situation:

  1. Drill a hole in the center of the area where the creak is heard. This is usually enough.
  2. If the subfloor is hard concrete, you can pour a special mixture of cement and water into the hole.
  3. If the creaking area is too large, then the only way to get rid of the creak is to reposition the parquet. It is costly and time consuming, but reliable.

Another common problem is parquet drying out. This is due to the fact that the planks dry out and decrease in size with use, so they begin to wobble. Such strips should definitely be replaced, since these areas are not subject to repair. If this is observed in a small area, then it is easier to replace individual strips with new ones.

Under the influence of changes in humidity, the parquet is moistened, then dries, and as a result, cracks appear. It is impossible to exclude this process, you can only monitor the humidity in the room using a humidifier. If the gap is very small, it is enough to clean it and then putty. If the gap is more than 5 mm, then the putty will not help. In this case, it is required to deepen, clean, cut out an insert from a suitable tree and drive it into the gap. Then the surface is sanded and varnished.

In some cases, the planks may peel off. This is caused by several reasons: low-quality glue or mastic, violation of installation technology or high humidity in the room. In this case, the problem is solved differently depending on the reason. If it is concrete, then the nests of the planks are carefully processed, then they are primed and dried. The planks are glued back with mastic. In the case of a wooden base, the nests of the planks are also cleaned and coated with glue, then the loosened planks are inserted back and nailed.

Since its invention, in 13th century Europe, parquet has been considered the most luxurious, noble, sophisticated and incredibly beautiful floor covering, subtly emphasizing the style and exclusivity of a room. Parquet is always at its peak.

Firstly, it has proven itself well from a practical point of view: natural, durable, maintainable, with proper care it will last for many decades. Secondly, due to its impeccable aesthetics and "diversity", beautiful parquet is suitable for any design style, it defines and sets the tone for the design. Let's see what role parquet plays in the interior, how the color of the parquet affects the geometry and appearance of the space, when it is better to give preference to light or dark tones, and in which cases it is better to limit ourselves to neutral shades.

The many faces

Modern processing technologies have significantly diversified the texture, color, shape and texture of the parquet. And today the usual varieties of wood appear in a completely new guise, opening up huge possibilities for design. For example, earlier maple and birch were considered the lightest, but today even a red oak coating can be whitened to a very light, almost white, and at the same time subtly emphasized the texture of the wood, or vice versa, painted black and patinated.

Noble walnut parquet is a traditional way of flooring, it smoothes the interior, makes it homey, cozy and comfortable

Now it is possible to choose the size of the dies, the length of a piece parquet ranges from 18 to 49 cm, with a width of 4-7 cm, and a parquet board in length can be more than 2 m. Parquet modules have become a very convenient invention - these are boards on which several are mounted at once lamellas according to the pattern. Such material is easy to lay with your own hands, even without having the skills.

Gray parquet in the interior is a compromise between dark and light, it is calm, but at the same time, very stylish and original design of the room

Casting, artificial aging, painting wood in colors unusual for natural materials, applying patina, staining, coupled with a variety of sizes and various methods of installation, make parquet a universal floor covering in any interior.

For offices, the most suitable parquet is oak, mahogany, dark walnut

Parquet design has the main task of creating such a covering that would most fully meet the functional and aesthetic needs of the owners of the premises. With a competent approach, the parquet floor becomes the dominant element, it sets the tone, but at the same time all other details are not lost, but on the contrary work towards the common task: to decorate the room, emphasize all the advantages, and carefully dim the flaws. Pay attention to the photos of the parquet in the interior, selected in the gallery, they perfectly demonstrate how the coating can highlight the architectural features of the space, make it more expressive and comfortable.

Parquet color - choose, don't be mistaken

Neutral calm tones with a reddish or brown tint are classic flooring finishes: calm, familiar, suitable for any interior style, but without zest and originality, as standard.

The modern floor design is dominated by contrasting light and dark colors. This trend has been traced at all times, and today such a design approach is more relevant than ever, interesting and extraordinary solutions are in demand that can transform the space, make it brighter and more expressive. It is this goal that can be achieved thanks to the dark and light shades of the parquet, it becomes possible to play with the geometry of the room, as well as such a floor can serve as an excellent background for highlighting other interior elements: furniture, ceiling decor, arches, etc.

Artistic parquet in the interior is always luxurious and elegant, in the photo there is a contrasting ornament that helps to straighten the proportions of the room

Light parquet in the interior

It is no secret that light parquet: very popular bleached oak or maple, as well as birch, hornbeam, beech of some varieties, ash with iridescent white-yellow sapwood will make the room lighter, add airiness and visually expand its boundaries.

For small areas, you should choose a coating of light shades with a low-pronounced texture pattern. If the room is narrow, then even white parquet is better to lay on a shuttle type, perpendicular to a narrow wall or herringbone, this way the proportions change, an optical illusion is obtained that the room is wider.

Light parquet goes well with both bright and pastel colors, for a balanced interior the main thing is to balance the palette

Advice: It is better to cover large areas of the floor with larger dies, and you can break up the space so that it does not look like a faceless homogeneous mass, you can use dark inserts: select zones, the center, or lay a contrasting strip along the perimeter at some distance from the walls.

Light or white parquet is ideal for creating an airy rococo style, ethnic trends, minimalism. A discarded white oak parquet board will add a touch of lightness and sophistication to the country and Provence style. Black birch will help in creating such modern styles as contemporary and shabby chic, the light palette of the board with thin dark veins and wormholes will look not just luxurious, but emphasized gracefully.

For light-deficient rooms, choose warm shades such as light golden oak parquet

In sunny rooms, where there is always a lot of light, you can safely lay parquet in cold light shades; for northern and shaded spaces, it is better to use warm colors. Creamy, creamy, pinkish, beige parquet will enhance the effect of visual perception, rooms with such a floor always seem larger, taller, more spacious.

Bleached oak in a cool palette can be balanced with bright and warm textile colors

But when laying a light floor covering, you should know that it will be a reflection for all other interior items. Therefore, it is necessary to very carefully choose the color of the walls and ceiling. For example, white oak parquet of cold shades in combination with yellow or brown walls will acquire yellowness, disharmony will appear in the interior, in this case it is better to use gray, blue or silver shades. But furniture can be of any color, a light floor is an ideal background for decor and details.

Light parquet flooring perfectly matches furniture of different shades

Dark floor

Dark parquet is versatile, aristocratic, noble, it has been and remains relevant for creating a variety of styles. This includes classicism, oriental and Japanese styles, high-tech, borocco, loft, etc. Although dark floors visually narrow and clearly limit the space, the situation can be corrected with skirting boards of the same color. But the room becomes intimate, cozy, authentic - this is a special world for people who prefer severity and comfort "in one bottle".

Black tinted oak parquet looks brutal, but at the same time goes well with white furniture with a gold or silver patina, deep dark brown wenge is ideal for cream walls and milk oak furniture. The polysandra floor is somewhat variegated, but on the other hand, you can pick up finishes and interior elements of any shades, from golden honey to dark chocolate brown.

It is better to combine dark brown wenge parquet with plinths and trims to match, this technique allows you to combine the interior

Dark parquet is a wonderful canvas for bright or contrasting decor. To achieve the desired effect, colorful textiles, and strict or, on the contrary, fanciful forms of decor and furniture are appropriate in design. As for the color palette, any colors are combined with such a floor, but all shades of white, red, purple, gold look the most advantageous.

The dark polysandre floor matches perfectly with discreet monochrome walls, furniture of any color suits it

Of course, dark parquet with a glossy finish looks very impressive, deep, stylish, it reflects furnishings and enlarges the space, but all dust particles and tiny scratches are visible on it. Matte dark floor is a special chic, elegance, respectability, moreover, it is more practical than gloss, hides scuffs and minor flaws.

A dark floor combined with white furniture is a win-win for an austere and elegant interior

Summing up, I would like to note that black-brown, light and white shades of parquet have many faces. To emphasize all the advantages, to complement, smooth, balance and not crush the beauty of the floor covering, you should delicately select colors for interior decoration.
