Round cribs for newborns. Round transforming bed for newborns - an unusual solution for a nursery Dimensions of an oval bed

The fashionable trend of the present time is round cribs. They look non-standard, one might even say not familiar. Their neat and not bulky appearance instantly catches the attention of young mothers. Pros of round cribs:

As with any furniture, baby round cradles have their drawbacks:

  1. High price.
  2. The need for special mattresses, which also have a special shape, like the bed itself.
  3. Custom bed linen. Parents will have to either sew a set to order, or look, because not every store has such sets in stock.
  4. The round cradle has a small berth. On average, it is intended for babies up to 6 months old. In the future, the crib will need to be either replaced or transformed to the next size (if the modification of the product allows). Any of the actions entails additional periodic costs both for the bed itself and for bedding sets, in particular sheets, because their size will increase with the mattress.

Dimensions

The dimensions of the newborn cradle may vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. On average, the size of the berth is 74x74 cm. In such a crib, the baby will be comfortable in the first months of life (up to 6 months), and of course, here it is worth considering the peculiarities of the child's growth. There are other sizes of round cribs.

Which shape is best?

There are quite a few varieties of children's sleeping places. Each has its own characteristics. Different manufacturers offer classic options, square and round. When choosing, it is worth considering many nuances in order to understand which bed is better - a regular rectangular, square or round.

Rectangular

These beds have a standard size of 120x60cm. They will serve the baby from birth to 3 years. Usually, they are made from different woods, respectively, the colors can vary from dark to light shades.

Classic models have two or three levels of the bottom, which is very convenient. The uppermost level will make it easier for young mothers to lay down. this level is highest towards the edge of the walls. The lowest level will protect the baby from falls and will not allow it to independently crawl out through the sides of the bed.

There are many modifications of classic models; for the convenience of the mother, such beds are equipped with boxes for linen or things. For the comfort of the baby and the convenience of parents, such cribs are often equipped with a pendulum mechanism with the possibility of fixing. One of the walls in an ordinary crib is removable, so the bed can be substituted to the mother's sleeping place and accustom the baby to independent sleep.

Square

The dimensions of a square-shaped bed are usually 80x80 cm. Such beds are made of aluminum or plastic profiles, and their walls are covered with a special material and a soft mesh. The square beds have two levels. The upper level is suitable for sleeping babies up to 6 months old, the lower one for older children up to 1 year old.

This model can be used as an arena. The option is compact and lightweight, you can take it with you on vacation, nature and the country. It is likely that such a bed will be convenient for temporary use.

In such a model, it is necessary to select a completely non-standard mattress and linen, most likely, you will need to sew to order. This option is convenient for frequent moving, small apartments.

Round shape

Sleeping in a round bed may vary. The circumference can be 74 cm for children of the first six months of life. Manufacturers of such cribs provide an opportunity to transform them, positioning the model as one that “grows” with the child.

Such a product looks stylish and modern, but requires periodic costs. The ability to increase in size extends only to the length, the width of the berth remains the same - 74 cm. Reaching the maximum size (provided that the model is "transformer"), a round bed will hardly be called compact.

The best option is parental priorities and preferences. They must take into account the peculiarities of the area where the baby bed will be located, as well as the financial issue. Each model has its own advantages, but the main function is the same for all - to provide a comfortable and restful sleep for the baby.

It should be comfortable, should not embarrass the child. He should feel comfortable and protected in the crib. Now it is not difficult to choose a functional sleeping place for newborns, because there is a huge selection of models on sale. Many designers argue that a transformer baby bed would be an ideal option, because in addition to a comfortable sleeping place, it has various drawers, shelves in which you can store your baby's linen and things. And in the future, this product can be increased in size. But these are not all the features of these items, so let's look at the detailed characteristics of these products.

Pros and cons

Compared to other newborn sleeping arrangements, transformers benefit in many ways. They are the most functional, compact, comfortable and spacious. This, of course, is a small part of what they have, but before purchasing these models, you need to weigh the pros and cons.   • the designs of a chest of drawers and a wardrobe, as well as a chest of drawers with a changing table have small cabinets in which only small things can be placed. Blankets, pillows, bed linen in them will be impossible to fold;
  • models in which the structure increases in length can increase in length, but their width will remain standard - no more than 70 cm.For a small child, this size will be quite comfortable, but for a student it will be inconvenient to sleep in this place for sleeping;
  • high cost - bunk modular furniture is quite expensive compared to conventional cribs for newborns.

What mechanisms are reliable

In fact, all transformers have reliable mechanisms. The main thing is to check the operation of the mechanism during the selection, the layout of additional elements should be carried out without any particular difficulties. But manufacturers advise choosing mechanisms:

  • wardrobe or chest of drawers - usually it is installed in addition to the bed, if necessary, it can be quickly removed and put away in another place;
  • bunk beds - these products are equipped with durable mechanisms that have a long service life. The bunk bed with a transforming mechanism in the form of a table has strong fasteners from a metal base;
  • with an articulated pendulum - this product has high wear, the control mechanism has a convenient control, which is triggered by a slight touch.

When choosing a bed for newborns, you should adhere to important recommendations:

  • inspect the appearance of the product; there should be no scratches, defects, deformations on it;
  • the control mechanism must be in good condition, check its condition and operation;
  • before choosing this product, please evaluate your space. The bed should fit into the room, should not clutter it up. In addition, the bed must fit into the design;
  • examine the lockers, the presence of shelves.

Better to see the photos of these products in advance Photos will help you choose a product with the desired design.

Transformer cots for newborns are multifunctional furniture that eliminates the need to purchase additional items. Sometimes in the room there is simply no place to install an additional chest of drawers, a table, but this sleeping place combines all these necessary items. However, it can sometimes clutter up the room. Therefore, before buying, it is better to look at the photo with the options for this furniture, they will help you choose the right product.

Any young family is faced with the fact that it is necessary to quickly find significant amounts of money in order to urgently provide everything necessary for a new family member, which is also growing rapidly, regularly changing its own needs. In such a situation, furniture of the transformer type can become a real find for the family budget - one that is capable of changing at the request of the owners, acquiring new functions. Buying one such piece of furniture is cheaper than buying several separate ones, but the functionality usually does not suffer from this. A baby cot is one of the most popular such purchases today.

Model options

Convertible beds for newborns involve combining such furniture with something else, and the task of parents is to determine what potential new functions they expect from such a purchase. The manufacturers themselves, in pursuit of consumer attention, are ready to offer the most unusual combinations that can offer maximum functionality, however, not all potential buyers imagine that this is generally possible. For this reason, it is worth starting by looking at your options.

  • Bed with a chest of drawers. Such a solution is very beneficial for small apartments, since both a sleeping place and storage boxes are present here from the beginning - the baby sleeps as if on top of the closet. The possibility of transformation here lies in the fact that the sleeping place can be increased over time by moving part of the boxes for things. Such models like "Fairy" in our country can be safely called massive.

  • Baby cots with pendulumare a combination of a regular bed and a cradle. In general, the sleeping place is motionless. But if the parents wish, you can push it, and it will begin to swing with a small amplitude. Some popular models are able to react even to the child's activity - not only to movements, but also to crying.

  • Models with a changing table. All at once for the newborn, because without the last detail it will be difficult for a young mother. Since the table is actually needed only at first, over time it is transformed into something else - it can be either additional sleeping space or a writing desk.

  • Round models.The initial meaning of this design is the absence of corners, which should positively affect the possibility of avoiding injury to the baby. The product, due to its shape, takes up quite a lot of space, despite the fact that it rather rigidly limits the growth of the baby; however, that is why it is a transformer - over time, its parts can be arranged in a different order, turning the furniture into a bed of a more familiar shape.

  • Multifunctional options. Some manufacturers thought that it was not necessary to combine only two main functions within one piece of furniture, and released the first 3-in-1 models - a bed, a swaddler and a chest of drawers. After that, their imagination could no longer be held, and in pursuit of the consumer, 5 in 1 and even 8 in 1 models were released. Of course, excessive versatility implies partial duplication of some functions, however, some families may still be interested in this.

Advantages

The very active conquest of the market by transformers in itself suggests that such a purchase is very justified and practical. Whichever model the consumer chooses, he is guaranteed to receive a number of advantages, among which the most important should be highlighted.

  • For a kid, furniture is usually bought literally for several years, since he is growing rapidly, and his needs are changing. The transformer allows you to make the once purchased item last longer - some models "see" not only rapid growth, but also the maturation of their owner. This approach saves not only finances, but also the time of parents, who do not need to run around the shops every couple of years in search of replacement of old furniture.

  • Almost any transformer assumes the presence of at least one or two drawers for storing things, which are always at hand, given the low mobility of the newborn. The zone of constant stay and regular service of the baby can be organized literally on two square meters, which greatly speeds up and simplifies all the necessary operations for the mother.

  • Buying a transformer always significantly saves parental money - a kind of wholesale purchase, and the presence of common walls between the bed and the same chest of drawers, which allows the manufacturer to save on materials, also affects. As a rule, a transforming crib costs about one and a half times more than a similar simple one, but instead of it you would have to buy a separate cradle, changing table and a wardrobe for storing things, and then also purchase one or two more spacious beds for a growing child.
  • Many modern apartments, built in Soviet times, do not differ in an abundance of free space, therefore the presence of even two children in a family can force all household members to make room. It's good if there is where, but in many cases such a task becomes a real problem. Again, in this case, the transformer may be an excellent solution, since it provides everything a newborn needs in a space of two square meters. This means that not even a room, but one corner is enough for a baby, which means that parents with their first child can live even in a one-room apartment, and with two in a two-room apartment.

disadvantages

On the one hand, transformers look like a real panacea, on the other hand, why haven't they replaced the classic twin beds with wardrobes, if they are so superior in all respects? Numerous reviews indicate that such furniture, like any other, has certain disadvantages, which sometimes push you to completely abandon such an acquisition. In fairness, most of the disadvantages of transforming beds do not relate to absolutely any kind of such furniture, but only to specific models, but the buyer should at least be more careful when choosing a product.

  • The maximum risk lies in the possibility of buying a low-quality product that should replace a whole set of furniture. If the bed is made of second-rate material, which will soon lose its visual appeal or, even worse, functionality, then not only the sleeping place will be damaged, but also the chest of drawers, and the changing table, and all other elements of the purchase, which means that the money will have to be spent again. At the same time, transformers often attract the attention of not the most wealthy consumers, who often choose them for the sake of saving money, and this only further exacerbates the situation.

Remember that when choosing furniture with a lot of functions and for many years to come, it is naive to expect that the cheapest model will be the best option.

  • A convertible crib is considered a great option for a child as it can grow larger over time, but in reality most models only "grow" in length, ignoring the increase in width. Of course, not a single child grows in the shoulders as rapidly as in height, however, it is quite obvious that even a first grader will find it difficult to sleep in the cradle for a newborn.

It remains to either look for an initially wide model, or try to find a crib that can not only lengthen, but also expand.

  • The pursuit of compactness by manufacturers also affects such an important piece of equipment as drawers or a chest of drawers. Usually they have very limited sizes, so it would be more correct to say that the most basic things can be stored there, and not literally everything that the baby has.

  • It would seem that buy a transformer - and the problem with replacing the bed is solved without additional spending money, but not everything is so simple. In the starter kit, the product usually comes with a mattress that is designed specifically for a newborn, and when unfolded, such a bed usually does not follow any generally accepted dimensions of a sleeping place. At the same time, experts studying healthy sleep argue that matching the size of the mattress to the sleeping area has a decisive effect on posture and the correct development of internal organs, so it is possible that parents will have to run a lot before they find a suitable model. In any case, you will also have to spend money to buy it.

  • With all the conveniences, the transformer, into which a maximum of various functions has been shoved into a minimum area, is distinguished by the heaviness and inaccessibility of the space under it, and therefore full-fledged putting things in order under such furniture will be problematic. Moreover, getting something from under the crib that fell there by accident is a whole task that cannot be done without a dad.

What sizes are there?

Since a transformer is such furniture that, in principle, tries to expand the boundaries of standards, it will be naive to think that it can have standard sizes. It all depends on both the specific manufacturer and the configuration, including the company's desire to squeeze the maximum possible capacity into the minimum dimensions. It would be more correct to say that some combinations of length and width are much more common than others, since they are considered optimal. For example, the average parameters of a transforming bed for a newborn are 120 by 65 centimeters, and if a company positions its product as growing, then the length of the bed usually increases to no more than 150 cm.

However, a transformer can be bought with a significant margin - with an eye on school-age children, it can occupy a space of 180 by 80 centimeters, and even more.

Manufacturers overview

In this case, it makes no sense to compose any rating - each manufacturer is distinguished by periodic successful and unsuccessful models, and each consumer sees its pros and cons in each such bed, so the results would be too subjective. For this reason, our review will do without allocating seats - just highlight a few manufacturers that, as of the spring of 2018, were successful.

It is predicted that Russian-made transformers are leading on the domestic market, since there are enough raw materials and manufacturing industries in Russia. If we talk about the percentage ratio by the number of models, then it is Russian creations that occupy a good two-thirds of the entire range, being represented by no less than ten different manufacturers, among which Feya and Antel stand out. If we talk about the Russian segment of such products, then in general it refers to goods of average quality, not being outstanding either for the better or for the worse, although individual models can certainly be worse or better than the general picture. Such cribs are popular due to their wide representation in any region of the country, as well as due to a relatively democratic pricing policy - such a product usually costs between 6-10 thousand rubles.

If we talk about the products of Western brands, then Italian brands are best represented here.- e.g. Sweet Baby, Nuovita, Feretti, Bambolina, Birichino. Consumers preferring such products are usually guided by the highest quality of production, because the strict consumer standards of the European Union force manufacturers to use only completely safe and durable materials. Of course, such high positive characteristics affect the price - in particular, some Italian transformers can have a price of tens of thousands of rubles. British and Danish cribs are also popular among other European manufacturing countries, but special attention should be paid to Polish products.

The fact is that the models made in this country also fully comply with European legislation, however, salaries in this country are somewhat lower, and logistics for the Russian consumer is cheaper, because the cost of cribs from Poland is quite comparable to domestic competitors.

Ironically, convertible cribs are one of the very few industries and commerce where China has yet to take a leading role. In our country, from the Celestial Empire, a fairly well-known brand Geoby is presented, which in general does not really fit the description of typical Chinese goods, traditionally low-quality, but very inexpensive. Such a bed is unlikely to be able to compete with renowned world competitors, but it can compete with Russian and some Polish manufacturers both in terms of reliability and durability.

True, in this case, the Chinese lose their typical advantage in the form of a low price, since the average model costs more than ten thousand rubles, however, it must be admitted that some cautious parents are only discouraged by the low cost.

Beautiful examples

Parents probably want their practical and durable purchase to be not only functional, but also beautiful, additionally creating a positive atmosphere in the nursery. Such a bonus is also possible - consider how a transforming baby crib might look like.

In the first photo we see the simplest example in terms of design - the body is entirely white and has no inserts of a different color, which allows the product to fit into absolutely any interior. At the same time, a sleeping place, a chest of drawers and storage boxes are squeezed into an extremely small occupied space, although this model meets all the concerns about the complexity of cleaning.

However, a similar concept can be multi-colored, and the combination of black and white is not always strict and official, it is quite appropriate in the case of a baby - the second photo successfully proves all these theses. Here, the manufacturers tried to supplement the general functionality of the previous model with a small changing table, so that the result was a full-fledged baby service center.

The last example seems to be similar to the two previous ones, however, it is clearly visible here that the chest of drawers can be removed over time, increasing the length of the berth, and used as a separate bedside table. Of course, such a solution will take up more space, but this was to be expected, because the child is growing.

When the firstborn appears in the family, you need to find a place for his crib, and in addition for a bunch of things: diapers with sliders, diapers, care products. So a children's chest of drawers will be very useful. It's also a good idea to buy a changing table, which allows you to comfortably change your baby's clothes. But not so much can fit in every apartment, especially a small one. In such cases, a transforming bed helps out, combining a sleeping place, a play area, a storage space. Moreover, such a bed grows with the child and often serves him until the age of 12. Further - about its pros and cons.

So, the positive qualities:

  • The presence of boxes and shelves in a chest of drawers, as well as a large drawer (or several) under the bed allows you to lay out all the baby's "dowry" and toys. Conveniently, all this is at hand.
  • Changing tablesk is a very necessary thing. If it is close to the crib, then it is more comfortable for the child - you don't have to carry it somewhere to change clothes.
  • As a rule, baby transforming beds for newborns are equipped with devices for motion sicknesswhich are of great help for young parents.
  • Many models have the ability increase in size as the child grows, which is very practical.

We also note the disadvantages of such furniture:

  • Dimensions there are more transforming cots than usual. And the more functions they have, the more difficult it is to place them in tight spaces. It is worth remembering this.
  • Drawers in the enclosed dressers are usually sufficient small, and they do not fit much.
  • The transformer growing with the baby increases only its length, and its width remains standard: 0.6 or 0.65 m. This is enough for a newborn baby, but not enough for a schoolchild.
  • For so many years the bed can get bored to kid.
  • By purchasing a separate bed and chest of drawers, you will get much more variations in their location and will be able to change the environment.
  • Convertible beds tend to be slightly more expensive and more difficult to find among standard options.

Design options

Chest of drawers or wardrobe

A transforming crib with a chest of drawers or wardrobe - a piece of furniture has a modular type, with a combination of two or more elements. The position of the chest of drawers can be changed by placing it on the left or right side of the bed. In the lower part that unites them, there is often a full-length drawer. When the baby grows up, the bars are removed from the crib, and the chest of drawers is removed, increasing the length of the berth.

The design is good in that you do not need to think about where the grown-up son (or daughter) will sleep. The savings are evident. In addition, it allows you to diversify the setting. But the fact that the height of the bed cannot usually be varied is not very convenient.

Convertible bed with a pendulum

The pendulum system is a useful invention that allows you to lull your baby to sleep without any extra effort. It is enough to slightly move the bed, and the pendulum starts. It can also work even when the baby is restlessly turning around and trying to wake up. There are models that turn on from the sound of crying.

Children's transforming beds with a pendulum may not have additional adaptations and serve up to three years. When the bottom is lowered, they turn into a playpen. If there are boxes under the pendulum system, then they can then be removed and the level of the sleeping bed changed. Such models can be used for up to five years. Well, cribs with a removable chest of drawers and a pendulum will last up to twelve years.

The pendulum system can be built on silent bearings or wooden slats. The first option is preferable, since the wood, wearing out, can creak. The mechanism is equipped with clamps, which, if necessary, will make the bed stable. Note that models with pendulums are more stable than models with runners. They also don't spoil the floor.

There are two types of such systems: longitudinal and transverse.

Some experts argue that longitudinal rocking is healthier for babies because it is more natural. But this is a controversial issue - after all, our ancestors for hundreds of years shook children in cradles exactly across. In any case, keep in mind that you need to leave room for the pendulum so that the bed does not bump against the wall.

Chest of drawers and changing table

The simplest models have a changing table - a folding one attached to one of the backs. In some cases, it can transform into an extension of a sleeping place. It is important that the mount is secure enough - check this before buying.

Well, if there is a chest of drawers, then why not equip its upper part with a changing device? This is what many manufacturers do, equipping the dresser lid with comfortable fences (this is very important for the safety of the baby).

Chest of drawers and workplace

Some beds, transforming, are capable of even greater miracles. There are models of children's transforming beds that allow you to build a comfortable table for a grown child, leaning on the top of a chest of drawers removed from the bed. The second support will be a lattice wall, which is no longer needed. And next to it we put a drawing board (the former back wall of the crib).

There is no doubt about the practicality of such a design. The only drawback is sometimes that the table is too small.

Oval transformable crib

These models are extremely graceful - smooth rounded shapes look very stylish. In addition, the absolute absence of sharp corners increases the safety of the product, and the baby is very comfortable inside. And such a bed takes up less space than a rectangular one.

But this is not all the advantages of such designs. They are still very cleverly transformed. A round transforming crib can become a cradle, a round playpen, a small or large (if you move the walls apart) oval crib, a sofa, armchairs with a table. Thanks to the variety, she will never get bored.

Ikea transforming bed

The Swedish manufacturer loves transformers - his many collections are based on a modular type, where products are easy to combine, match with each other. As for the cribs for babies, they are designed by this manufacturer for up to three years and have a bottom adjustment in three positions. Stuv's models are equipped with drawers at the bottom.

But for slightly older kids (from one year old), Ikea offers to buy transforming cribs, sliding in length, growing with the child (for example, the Sundvik, Minnen, Trugen models). Many of them are equipped with a low safety fence (available separately). And Kyura's bed with a ladder has two sides: for the little one they arrange a sleeping place downstairs, and later, turning the bed over, they transfer the child to the second floor.

Playpen bed

This crib uses an aluminum folding base, fabric and mesh. The bottom can usually be installed in two positions, there are wheels that can be locked if necessary. A light playpen folds up quickly, much like an umbrella, turning into a bag, and quite compact.

It is very convenient to take such a product with you to the dacha or on a trip, but it is not very useful for a baby to sleep in it all the time. After all, the materials used here are mainly synthetic, and the folding bottom is not too flat. Yes, and stuffy little inside. Therefore, it is better to buy a children's transforming bed in the form of a playpen in addition to a regular crib. If, of course, there is an opportunity and need.

Dimensions of a baby cot-transformer

If standard classic cribs for newborns are 1.2 or 1.25 m long, and 0.6 or 0.65 m wide, then many transformers have different ones:

  • For models with a chest of drawers with a standard bed (1.2 m by 0.6 m), the length depends on the size of the chest. Often it is 1.7-1.8 m - this is enough for a schoolchild and even a teenager. Width varies from 0.6 to 0.8 m.
  • Beds with retractable sides are 0.7 m wide and 1.4 m long.
  • Oval beds are usually about 1.3 m long and 0.75 m wide.
  • Playpens are usually made of standard dimensions (1.2 m by 0.6 m).
