Decorating the basement of the house with panels as an option to protect the foundation from negative influences. Facing the foundation of the house with plastic panels with your own hands Decorative facing of the foundation with plastic panels

The technology of finishing the basement with panels that externally imitate stone originated in Canada and the USA, but now it is spreading more and more due to the mass of advantages. The panels we are talking about in this article are a type of siding and it is easy to guess that outwardly they look like stone. They are made using high pressure casting.

Despite the fact that sheathe the base with this material is beneficial from many sides, the installation must be carried out very accurately and carefully, however, the same applies to other finishing materials. So, let's look at how the basement should be finished with stone panels.

A plinth is the part of the foundation that is above the ground. One of the functions that the plinth performs is to protect the building from moisture ingress, including due to rain. The plinth is both functional and architectural, so this part of the house must be treated very responsibly. The plinth also provides thermal insulation between the main building space and the basement.

Interesting! Architects believe that the basement should be attributed to the wall, its lower part, but the builders, on the contrary, are sure that this is still an element of the foundation.

Advantages and relevance of plinth cladding with stone panels

Firstly, modern materials have excellent design and significantly improve the exterior of the building. Secondly, the technique allows you to increase resistance to moisture, which allows you to forget about problems with cracking of the foundation for a long time. If the liquid enters the voids of the material from which the base of the building is made, then it will freeze in cold weather, and, as you know, ice has a larger volume than water, and as a result, cracks will appear. To better understand the principle, you can put a PET bottle filled to the top with water in the freezer overnight - in the morning the container will be severely deformed. The same thing happens with building materials if moisture gets into them.

The basement has a much higher load than the facade, so this part of the building must be treated with great care. Temperature changes that cannot be avoided, groundwater currents, the pressure of the house itself, precipitation in the form of rain or snow can adversely affect the condition of the basement.

disadvantages

It is difficult to find really serious negative sides of the panels for finishing the basement, but you can point out a couple of points.

  1. Limitations in color... It will not work to choose a shade to taste, since the panel is externally stylized as a stone, which has specific dull colors. But, if you were unable to choose the desired design in the store catalogs, you can always contact the manufacturer directly and place an order according to your taste. Whether it is worth paying extra for such a service is up to you.
  2. Despite the fact that the panels withstand very well loads and the influence of many destructive factors, fire resistance is not expected... Since the main material of manufacture is still plastic, the panel will quickly melt at elevated temperatures, and therefore it is not worth frying a barbecue or burning garbage near the house.

Materials from which the stone panels are made for basement decoration

The production of such products is carried out only using new, innovative technologies, which appeared thanks to the hard work of highly qualified specialists. Only materials are used that have high resistance to low temperatures and are endowed with water-repellent properties. Also, they (materials) should not crack in winter and with strong wind. Most often, polypropylene is taken as a basis, which is formed by casting, the characteristics of such panels are always at a high level.

In general, it is possible to use different polymers if chemicals are added to increase the product's useful life. The choice of the base material directly affects the cost.

Existing types of panels

Before choosing and purchasing the required number of panels, you need to understand the existing types of these products, with all their features, strengths and weaknesses. Each variety has some differences that need to be considered. Today, 4 types are widely used, which are presented in the table.

Table. Popular types of basement panels for stone.

Panel viewFeatures and Benefits

Fiber cement panels stand out from the whole range of products for their overestimated strength characteristics and a high degree of weather resistance. Such products are difficult to distinguish from a real stone, they do not harm either nature or human health.

These plinths are made on the basis of vinyl plastic, they can also be added with a variety of specific dyes, so that the color palette is the widest here, and it is also easy to choose the desired texture. Ideal for those who value the visual impression of the appearance of the house.

Acrylic plinth panels are highly resistant to harmful UV rays from the sun. They are capable of retaining their original color throughout their entire life cycle. The panels presented can withstand continuous impact loads.

They are good in cases where it is necessary not only to strengthen the basement and make the interior more pleasant, but also to improve thermal insulation. The structure of such panels has several layers, the uppermost of them - decorative - finished with stone. The rest are important from a technical point of view.

What does the cost depend on?

The price will depend on several factors at once. Firstly, this is the country that produces the siding, and the specific company - the more reputable the firm, the higher the cost. The material used also affects what kind of polymers, modifiers, and so on. If you are looking for products that are easy to install and have large dimensions, then the price for them will be higher than for small options. If you want to save money, then you should not choose fanciful panels, since the intricate texture and color significantly increase the cost. The better the characteristics of the product, that is, resistance to temperature extremes, strength, resistance to wind, the more expensive it will cost.

Important! It is worth paying attention to the domestic manufacturer, among the goods they represent on the market now you can find very good specimens not only in appearance, but also in characteristics, while the price is an order of magnitude lower than that of foreign counterparts.

Panel selection

When you start choosing stone-styled panels for your base / plinth finish, there are a few things to focus on. If the product is of high quality, then the characteristics specified by the manufacturer will be high, while the appearance should be appropriate, without defects. The material greatly affects the rate of burnout under the sun, if the base is not in the shade and you want to maintain a beautiful exterior for a long time - ask the seller for more details.

It is better to buy panels in those places where there is a large selection of different goods, so that there is plenty to choose from. The period of successful work is also very important: if the company has existed for several years and has managed to accumulate many customers with positive reviews, it means that it is selling a quality product. Decide which is more important - ease of installation or savings. If the former, then you should pay attention to the large panels, if the latter, then to the small ones. A good product must be accompanied by a license and a certificate that guarantee quality.

Panel mounting

Installing panels under the stone is not difficult. You need to be very careful and pedantic in the process, carefully carry out all measurements and calculations.

We will show you how to properly install the finishing panel on a concrete base.

We need:

  • roulette;
  • circular saw with diamond disc;
  • puncher;
  • fasteners.

Step 1.We calculate the required number of panels in one row. To do this, divide the total length of the wall (minus the space for the corner elements) by the effective length of one panel.

Step 2.If there is not enough part to cover the full length of the wall, or if you need to install the panels along the contour of a window or other element without closing it, use a tape measure and measure exactly how the panel should be cut. Using a circular saw with a diamond disc or a hacksaw, we cut out the part we need from one panel.

Important! Do not cut more than 1 piece from each piece, otherwise the result will not look so natural.

Step 3.Let's move on to installing panels. We lean the product against the base exactly in the place where it will be located. We need to drill a fastening hole using a punch, then we use special fasteners for reliable fixation.

Step 4. We push the next panel, fasten it in 6 places so that it is resistant to the wind - 5 fasteners on top and 1 on the side. The top attachment line should start from the center.

Step 5. Make sure the mount is not too rigid to ensure proper response to temperature changes (expansion compensation).

Important! Also between the panels you need gaps for the same purpose. If you are installing in winter, then the joint width should be about 15 cm, and if in summer, then no more than 10 cm.

Video - Installation of basement panels

As you can see, the installation process is not at all complicated and does not take much time, while your house will be insulated, and the base will be hardened and protected from moisture. The technology allows you to simply and cheaply give elegance to the exterior and increase the duration of the building's operation.

Traditional plaster and brick cladding are increasingly being replaced by new base finishing methods using modern materials.

Such technologies include the use of panels of various types for finishing the base surface. Decorative panels for the foundation act as a protective coating.

The appearance of such coatings can imitate natural finishing materials.

Their use makes the room attractive and stylish. The material itself is characterized by special strength and durability.

In Russia, the use of plinth panels is mainly limited to the cladding of the base, which is the most vulnerable part of the structure. In Europe and America, the entire facade surface is finished with decorative panels.

The use of basement siding is associated with sufficient costs. But they are compensated by the advantages of the finishing material.

Advantages of decorative panels

Polyvinyl chloride is used in the manufacture of panels. It has several advantages:

  • Protects the basement surface from external environmental influences;
  • Possesses high density and strength. The service life of the facade coating can be up to 50 years;
  • Installation is simple. Finishing work can be done independently;

  • Basement siding gives the structure a beautiful look;
  • The material has universal properties. It can be used for cladding residential buildings, shopping and entertainment centers;
  • The coating works well with vinyl façade cladding;
  • No special conditions are required for transportation.

The basement coating has good technical characteristics and can be used in various natural areas. It is able to withstand large temperature fluctuations; preserve its original properties when exposed to frost, do not collapse from shock effects during strong cooling, resist fungi and mold.

Installation of the basement

The basement siding has convenient dimensions. This allows for self-assembly. When connecting products, the locking method is used. For fixing, nails or screws are used.

During the work, certain points should be taken into account that allow for a high-quality installation:

  • Laying should start from the bottom of the base;
  • The next wall can be finished after the previous one has been processed;
  • Self-tapping screws must be screwed perpendicular to the surface of the base;
  • There must be a gap between the tile and the wall when connecting. The material can expand from temperature exposure;
  • You can use a jigsaw, saw or grinder to cut the coating;
  • Fastening panels to corner surfaces must be carried out using special strips.

When choosing the type of basement surface, one should take into account the shape of the walls of the building and the dimensions of the base. If it is necessary to cut the sheets significantly, it is better to use a material that imitates stone. Then it will be possible to achieve a reduction in the consumption of panels.

Scope of use

Foundation decorative panels can be used in a variety of applications. They are used for cladding:

  • Basement parts and walls of a building structure;
  • Internal walls and partitions in residential and office premises, restaurants and cafes;
  • Garages, gazebos, fences and other structures. As a result, the surface takes on a natural look;
  • Insulated walls of the building;
  • Fireplace facade;
  • Surfaces in rooms with high levels of humidity.

The use of a basement coating will help to get rid of the need for regular wall painting and frequent repairs. It will improve the characteristics of the foundation and contribute to the beautiful appearance of the structure.

Application of PVC products

PVC products are called vinyl. They are manufactured as two-layer parts. In their production, polyvinyl chloride is used. As a result of the two-layer coating, high strength and reliability are provided.

With the help of one of the layers, the physical properties of the finish are preserved, and with the help of the other, the cladding is protected from the influence of adverse influences. Such coatings have universal characteristics.

You can find out more about PVC products for base cladding by watching the video:

This coating provides good protection against moisture. It does not require constant care. If necessary, the material can be cleaned with ordinary water.

Using basement siding

Decorative panels for the foundation can be made of polypropylene. It has a more solid foundation and is more resistant to environmental influences. The reason for these properties is the special stabilizers contained in the material. In addition, such panels are thicker.

The products have an affordable price, which is slightly higher than the cost of vinyl material. The service life of such a cladding can reach several decades. It does not lose its performance and attractive appearance.

With the help of basement siding, you can imitate almost any coating. This allows you to use it for the implementation of the most daring artistic ideas.

No special skills are required to install the basement. This can be done with minimal labor in a short time.

Panels imitating natural stone

The material for the manufacture of which artificial stone is used almost does not differ from the natural coating. But it is much easier to work with such panels than with a real stone.

The veneer uses simple operations. You can carry out independent installation and not involve professional builders in the work.

On sale there are panels for finishing corner surfaces. The corners of the plinth can be designed especially neatly. An artificial stone, in contrast to a natural one, has a quite reasonable price.

Finishing the foundation with panels is a reliable and effective way to protect the basement of a residential building from adverse external factors: water, wind, sunlight and mechanical damage. Facing work can be done independently - detailed instructions will help even a non-professional to cope with the task.

Finishing materials for the foundation: types and advantages

All panels intended for cladding the basement of the house are moisture resistant, capable of withstanding sudden temperature changes, and withstand mechanical stress. However, their properties depend on the material - some types, in addition to protective and decorative functions, have good thermal insulation qualities.

The panels made of polyvinyl chloride are affordable, lightweight and can last for about 30 years. They are not subject to decay, mold or mildew does not form on the surface. Easy to clean - can be washed with water.

Assembled according to all the rules, such panels will reliably protect the foundation from moisture and wind. They are easy to install yourself, and damaged elements can be easily replaced with new ones.

However, such products also have a serious drawback - they are inferior to other materials in strength.

Severe frosts make them brittle, they also cannot withstand mechanical stress and can crack.

Metal

Facade panels can be made of anodized aluminum or galvanized steel. Steel sheets are heavier, and therefore the structure erected from them will create a greater load on the foundation.

The edge of the panels can be perforated and solid, the disadvantage of the latter is the need to independently make holes for fasteners.

Wood-polymer

Elements consisting of wood fibers have a moisture-repellent coating, have good sound and heat insulation properties. They are affordable, easy to use, resistant to temperature changes.

However, such cladding is not very durable - it can last about 10-15 years.

Plastic

Three-layer structures, consisting of PVC sheet, protected by a plastic coating on both sides. Durable, lightweight and robust material that is easy to install.

Among the advantages:

  • long service life;
  • affordable price;
  • fire resistance;
  • a large selection of textures and colors: plastic panels can imitate almost any material: brick, masonry.

Cement

Cement particle board is a strong and durable material that protects the foundation from external influences. They do not form mold, they are fire-resistant, low-toxic. Due to the low thermal conductivity of CBPB, the foundation lined with them does not need additional insulation.

Sandwich panels

Such structures consist of a layer of insulation and facing material, and therefore have good protective properties.

They protect the foundation from moisture, heat loss, and external influences. They can have a different coating: metal, moisture-resistant plywood (

Plywood: types, sizes of sheet, how to cut it yourself

), ceramic tiles or OSB.

Full information about the types of sandwich panels and methods of their installation can be found

Basement siding

Siding made of polypropylene has the same qualities as vinyl panels (resistant to mold, does not collapse upon contact with moisture, protects from winds, a variety of textures), but surpasses them in strength.

The disadvantage is the high cost.

Required tools and materials

For cladding the foundation of the house you will need:

  • basement panels;
  • a wooden bar with dimensions from 40 * 40 mm or a metal profile to create a frame;
  • starting and top strips - the first is installed at the bottom of the future cladding and serves as a support for the panels, the second closes the profile from above;
  • corners for closing the corner joints of panels;
  • fasteners (dowels for the frame, self-tapping screws with a press washer or galvanized nails with a wide head for fixing the panels);
  • hacksaw or jigsaw for cutting panels;
  • screwdriver and hammer;
  • building level with a length of 80 cm or more;
  • ruler, pencil;
  • punch for creating holes for dowels;
  • roulette;
  • chop cord;
  • square.

Simultaneously with the cladding of the facade, you can also carry out its warming, then you will need heat and waterproofing materials.

Finishing the foundation with panels: step by step instructions

Facade panels for the plinth are installed on the frame.

Work on the construction of the lathing should be carried out especially carefully - the durability and reliability of the entire structure depends on how smoothly and firmly it is mounted.

Frame elements - profile or timber (Description, types, properties) - can be installed horizontally or vertically, horizontal ones are more suitable for plastic panels.

Work order:

  1. The starting bar is set at a height of 4-5 cm above the ground level. The starting point is determined, using a level, a chopping cord or a marker, a line is drawn along the entire perimeter of the foundation. Mount the bar along the marked line, fixing it with dowels.
  2. If insulation of the facade is to be carried out along with the cladding, the frame should be located at a distance from the walls sufficient for laying the thermal insulation. The insulation is laid close, without leaving joints, fixed with plastic dowel-umbrellas. The waterproofing material is fixed on top. How to insulate a house with foam can be found in this article.
  3. At the corners, near doorways, the exit or entrance of communications into the house, corner strips and a j-profile are placed.
  4. Move on to fixing the panels. The first element is installed on the starting plate, fixed with self-tapping screws along two edges and in 2 places in the middle of the panel.

    It is important not to tighten the fasteners all the way, but to leave a millimeter gap so that the expanding or contracting panel does not crack during temperature fluctuations.

  5. The remaining panels of the first row are installed in the same way.
  6. If the height of the elements is not enough, and it is required to perform a second or more rows, then they are made with an offset, like brickwork.
  7. When the foundation is completely sheathed, the last row of panels is covered with plastic sheeting.
  8. If, after the work, small gaps between the elements were noticed, they are sealed using silicone sealant of a suitable color.

Professional advice

In order for the erected structure to fully fulfill its functions and serve for a long time, before starting work, it is worth studying several recommendations from specialists in the installation of plastic panels:

  1. All places of entry and exit of communications into the house must be sealed before cladding.
  2. The plastic panels should be installed a short distance from the soil level and not close to the ground.
  3. Plating work always starts from the left corner, goes to the right.
  4. Fasteners for cladding must have an anti-corrosion coating.
  5. All gaps and joints after completion of work must be thoroughly greased with sealant.

For facing work, it is advisable to choose a day when the air temperature is above 0 ° C and precipitation is not expected.

Decorative plating of the foundation with basement siding

Siding panels have a lock connection, thanks to which the individual elements are tightly and securely fixed into a single structure. However, in order for the work to be done efficiently, it is important to install a strong and even metal frame to which the basement siding will be attached.

Materials and tools

For work you will need:

  • screwdriver;
  • self-tapping screws and dowel-nails;
  • a hammer;
  • puncher;
  • building level;
  • bulgarian;
  • marker and tape measure;
  • scissors for cutting metal;
  • metallic profile;
  • corners, ebb and starting bar.

Work order

The profiles are fixed in 3 places: at the bottom, in the middle and at the top. A similar scheme is used for cladding a foundation with 1 row of panels about 46 cm high. The spacing of the posts must match the width of the panel.

Before installing the profile, pre-mark the lines along which it will be laid, using a level and a marker.

The profile is fixed with dowels. A starting bar is installed on the lower profile, fixing it with self-tapping screws at a distance of every 30 cm. Corners are fixed on the corners and ledges of the foundation.

Siding work begins from the corner, from left to right. The first element is attached to the starting plate by inserting self-tapping screws into the special holes for fastening and fixing it. Install the next panel so that its protrusions go into the grooves of the first element.

Having reached the opposite corner, cut off the excess at the last panel using a grinder. Move on to the next wall.

From above, the cladding is closed with an ebb, the gaps and cracks are filled with a sealant in harmony with the color of the siding.

Getting started with self-installation of basement siding, it is worth remembering a few rules:

  1. The fasteners must be installed in the center of the special hole, without screwing it to the end by 1 mm - this is necessary so that the panels changing under the influence of the environment do not crack.
  2. For reliable fixation of the structure, fasteners are used of such a length that it fits into the base by at least 11 mm.
  3. If insulation is carried out simultaneously with the lining of the foundation, breathable non-foil materials are used.

Having learned how to independently finish the foundation with panels, you can get to work - the installation process is quite simple, and the recommendations of specialists and watching a video with a detailed description of the work will help to avoid common mistakes.

Facing the foundation with plastic panels not only decorates the house, but also gives a great effect for protecting and insulating the foundation. The foundation is protected not only from physical damage, but also from weather conditions. Plating the plinth with plastic is quick and easy.

Plastic panels for plinth trim

Advantages and disadvantages of plastic panels

Plastic panels for finishing facades of buildings (including foundations) are very popular in the world, primarily because of the low price - this is one of the cheapest materials. And the installation of panels can be easily done by hand.

Panels are mounted on a wooden crate. The gap between the panel and the foundation creates an additional layer of air, which acts as a natural insulation.

Plastic panels for stone

The plastic from which the panels are made is a high-strength and frost-resistant material. It is not afraid of temperature extremes, can withstand shocks and other physical influences, and is easy to clean from dirt and dust. The plastic used is fireproof and does not react to various chemical influences. A large selection of panels allows you to choose them in color, shape, relief (appearance) and size. Any store will offer a large selection of plastic panels both on demonstration stands and in photos in catalogs.

The panel for finishing the basement is a kind of "dumpling" - insulation sealed in plastic. This provides not only high strength characteristics, but also thermal insulation.

A number of plastic panels allow for additional finishing and embossing, paint, etc.

The panels are fixed to a wooden lathing

Preparatory work before installation

Before starting to sheathe the foundation of the house, it is necessary to carry out a number of preparatory work. You should start by cleaning the foundation from dust, dirt, stains (paint, grease, dog marks, etc.). This can be easily accomplished with an ordinary broom, a damp cloth and, if necessary, solvent. Also, protruding elements are removed on the base.

Next, you should achieve an almost perfectly flat foundation surface. For this, all pits, cracks and crevices can be filled or cemented. If the amount of leveling work is large, then it is recommended to cement - it is cheaper and easier.

After leveling the base, it is impregnated with Aquastop, antifungal solutions and a primer - this will increase its strength and provide additional protection against moisture. High penetration primers and other fluids must be used.

Brick panels

During preparatory work, a wooden beam is also processed under the crate (if a beam is used, not profiles). He is allowed to dry in a dry room at room temperature. Otherwise, the bar can lead. Then it is treated with "Aquastop" and antifungal impregnations. Processing takes place in stages: at first, anti-fungal substances, and after the timber has dried - "Aquastop".

At this stage of preparation is completed, and you can proceed to the installation.

Cladding tools and materials

To perform work on finishing the basement with plastic panels, you will need:

  1. The panels themselves. They are selected by color and relief, the number of panels is calculated based on the area to be sheathed.
  2. Fastening strips for panels and fittings. They are chosen by the type of panels, usually sellers recommend the strips necessary for fastening and their number.
  3. Beam 50x50 or metal profile. Used for lathing.
  4. Fastenings for the lathing (depends on the material of the base and the lathing).
  5. Screwdriver.
  6. Self-tapping screws.
  7. Waterproofing film.
  8. Measuring devices: levels, plumb lines (preferably several), meter, pencil or marker for marks.
  9. Insulation, materials for fastening insulation and for artistic decoration of panels - at will.

Installation instructions for basement plastic panels

How the panels are installed

In order to veneer the base, you first need to fill the crate. The lathing is made either from wood or from a profile. They fix it with special fasteners. In the process of filling the lathing, it is very important to carefully observe an even vertical and horizontal to prevent unevenness and distortion.

The next step (optional) is insulation. There are many materials that can be used as insulation. The classic option will be polystyrene or mineral wool, the highest quality is Izhevsk polyurethane foam. Insulation sheets are fixed with special fasteners (“parachute” anchors) so that the vertical seams between the plates of one row do not coincide with the next row.

Warming the basement of the house with expanded polystyrene

If there is no need for insulation (or there is no money for insulation), then it can be omitted.

A new necessary step is to attach a waterproof "breathable" film to the crate to protect the foundation from water flooding. You can fix it with ordinary nails, construction (reinforced) tape or a special stapler.

After fixing the fittings, the panels are installed. They can be fastened to special strips or simply screwed to the crate with self-tapping screws. When fastening with self-tapping screws, it is necessary to take into account wind and precipitation loads. Each new panel must clearly dock with the previous one. You can cut off the excess with a construction knife, hacksaw or grinder. After installing the panels, a special visor is attached to the walls to protect it from rain and snow. Then grout the joints between the panels (if panels are selected that do not overlap). This completes the installation of the panels.

Conclusion on the topic

In conclusion, advice: when buying panels, fittings, visors and slats must be purchased from the same company. Each manufacturer makes its own "exclusive" panels and materials for them, so there is a huge number of options for planks, locks, art accessories from different manufacturers.

Cladding the base / plinth with panels

Covering your foundation with plastic panels is a practical and inexpensive way to add protection and decoration to your foundation. They also improve the thermal insulation of the building. The panels, which have a beautiful appearance and low weight, are easy and quick to install. They imitate the look of various finishing materials. The technology is simple, so doing all the installation work with your own hands will not be difficult. For this, the presence of minimal construction skills is sufficient. A wide range allows you to choose the desired texture and color of the facing.

Plastic panels: product features

The popularity of plastic foundation panels is due to their low cost. They are among the most inexpensive materials for finishing the basement (the upper foundation part located above the ground surface). This part of the base that performs load-bearing functions must simultaneously have a beautiful appearance.

Foundation plastic panel coverings are plinth siding. It differs from the facade analogue in the following characteristics:

  • higher strength;
  • greater thickness: for basement siding, this parameter reaches 3 mm, and for front siding - up to 1.5 mm.

For the facing of the foundation, products of different colors and relief are produced. Often, a material that imitates a stone or brick is used for decoration.

Product range

Plastic coatings for stone of the following types have become widespread:

  • vinyl;
  • acrylic;
  • fiber cement;
  • sandwich panels.

Compared to natural stone, they are much easier to wash and require no special treatment.

Basement siding has the following advantages:

  • quick installation;
  • long service life of more than 50 years;
  • does not require additional treatment with protective equipment;
  • a small price;
  • resistance to temperature fluctuations, moisture, sunlight;
  • sufficient strength;
  • the ability to restore its original shape after impacts (plasticity);
  • a wide range allows you to choose the required color and texture, size of parts, finish;
  • chemical and biological resistance;
  • provides hydro and thermal insulation.

The disadvantages are much less. These include:

  • impermeability to air, which prevents its natural circulation and contributes to the formation of condensation on the surface of the base or insulation;
  • expansion with increasing temperature.

The first minus is eliminated by equipping a ventilated foundation.

Expansion is compensated by the left gaps, small width. Also, the screws are not completely screwed in.

Cladding models are available on which you can apply paint, patterns with relief.

Low cost and excellent performance have led to the widespread use of this plastic material for finishing the basement. The cladding of the desired type can be easily found in hardware stores.

Tools and materials required for installation

The plinth is finished with panels using the tools and materials presented in the table below.

1 screwdriver with bit set panels in the required quantity, matched by texture, color
2 hammer drill and drills for it fastening strips, fittings (corners, ebb, J-strips), self-tapping screws
3 building level or plumb line waterproofing film
4 tape measure, marker or pencil heat-insulating material (insulation)
5 jigsaw or hacksaw wooden beams or metal profiles

The required number of panels is calculated according to the following algorithm:

  • measure the parameters of the base, which are going to sheathe: height, length;
  • multiplying these 2 values, you get its area;
  • dividing it by a similar parameter of the selected plastic panel, they get the required number for work.

Insulated base

Ebbs can be used plastic, often supplied with the product, or additionally purchased metal. You can also do them yourself, but certain skills are required here.

The frame is recommended to be created from a metal profile. If wooden blocks are used for work, then they are purchased with a size of 50x50 mm. Also, before fixing, the tree should be covered with a waterproofing compound and an antiseptic.

The choice of fasteners for mounting the lathing is determined by the material of the base and the frame itself. It is fixed directly with dowels or on hangers. The panels are fixed to the crate with self-tapping screws.

For ventilation, holes of the required diameter are made, which at the end of the work are closed with gratings that have a decorative appearance.

Warming is performed if necessary. For these purposes, mineral wool or expanded polystyrene is used. They are covered with a membrane used as a windbreak.

Prepare tools and materials in advance. This will avoid distractions during the workflow.

Preparatory work

Before you start mounting the panels for the base / plinth, you need to prepare its surface accordingly. In this case, the following work is performed:

  • using a damp cloth, a broom, they clean the foundation of the house from dirt: dust, earth clods, old paint (a solvent is used for this) and other things;
  • dismantle the protruding parts of the base;
  • level the surface of the base with plaster, sealing the existing cracks, recesses, cracks;
  • primed the prepared section of the foundation to increase its strength, create an additional moisture-proof coating;
  • if the material of the crate is a wooden bar, then it is treated with an antiseptic and a moisture-proof coating is applied, and then dried.

Foundation panels require almost perfect leveling of the base / plinth surface prior to installation. If necessary, even plastering on beacons is used, the base itself is pre-primed with a deep penetration composition. So that the bars do not deform when drying, they are dried indoors at room temperature.

Installation process

Installation of panels on the basement of the house takes place in several stages: first, the crate is mounted, and then the cladding. The framework is created according to the following algorithm:

  • choose material: metal profile or wooden beam;
  • fix the guides at the required distance, controlling the level of their evenness in the horizontal and vertical planes.

After installing the frame, if necessary, thermal insulation of the base is made using technology.

  • fix the water-impermeable film on the created frame with adhesive tape or nails, or staples (using a stapler);
  • fix the fittings with self-tapping screws, selected according to the diameter of the holes in it;
  • sheathing the basement of the house with plastic panels;
  • fix the ebb to the walls;
  • perform grouting when used for finishing non-overlapping panels.

Result of work

All the work, both preparatory and basic, can be easily done by hand. It is imperative to use the instructions for the product to ensure a high quality result.

The very process of finishing work is simple. But to achieve the highest quality result, you must also take into account a number of nuances. When performing cladding the foundation with panels with your own hands and choosing them, it is recommended to adhere to the following tips:

  • before proceeding with the installation of the finishing coating, the base must be treated with a special antibacterial compound (primer): this will prevent the formation and spread of fungus;
  • before purchasing the material chosen for cladding, you should study the instructions, or find out the nuances of its installation from a sales assistant in the store, because the models may have their own characteristics in terms of installation;
  • when buying products that, after fixing, will act, you should pay attention to the presence of visors in their kit: if they are absent, then you will need to make them yourself, or purchase them separately;
  • when choosing a working material, it is necessary to give preference to well-known brands, and its appearance should be free from defects;
  • buy better certified goods in places offering a large selection of it;
  • it should be borne in mind that large panels are more convenient and faster to install, and small ones will cost less;
  • if the section of the foundation to be finished is not located in the shade, then before buying it is necessary to clarify the resistance of the material to fading under the influence of sunlight
  • when the plinth needs to be lined in several rows, then the vertical seams are shifted relative to each other: the joint between the top elements of the coating is placed in the middle of the panel lying below.

Finishing the entire building with brick siding

Basically, plinth siding can be used to decorate the entire facade of a building.

The choice of finishing coat should be approached, taking into account not only its price, but also the operating conditions, the speed of installation. Fade-resistant material, will retain its attractive original appearance for a long time.

The process of finishing the basement of the house with plastic panels is shown in the video below.

Panels for finishing the basement, visors, fittings, slats must be purchased from the same company. This is due to the fact that quite often manufacturers make variants of components for the installation of their products that differ from analogues. Correctly selected cladding, assembled using technology, not only looks great, but also protects the base from the destructive effects of moisture and temperature fluctuations.

Panels for facing the basement of a house are quite different, only the most popular today are basement siding panels. Facing the plinth with pvc panels is quite common and there are reasons for this, which we will discuss below.
You will have the opportunity to see photos and videos on this topic and decide if this design is right for you. Instructions for performing this work will also be given.
If everything is done according to the plan, then such work does not take much time and does not require much effort.

Before making a purchase of the material, you should familiarize yourself with its qualities and only after that make a decision:

  • The plinth cladding panel can be made of various materials, this one is made of pvc, which makes it quite durable. It perfectly tolerates temperature extremes and high humidity;
  • Facing the basement with plastic panels can be carried out using insulation, which will significantly increase the thermal insulation;
  • The plastic panel for lining the basement does not corrode and will last long enough. The durability of the material is high;
  • All work can be done by hand, which will significantly reduce the cost of the entire structure;
  • A wide range of colors and many textures also speak in favor of this material. You can purchase cladding for both stone and wood, it all depends on your desire;
  • It is an environmentally friendly material that will not harm your health;
  • Fully protects the base coat from external influences and therefore extends the service life. In this version of the finish, the basement does not even saturate moisture, and this has a beneficial effect on heat transfer and saves you money on heating;
  • Such a finish does not require high maintenance costs. You just need to wipe the surface with a rag.
    So that it repels moisture and dirt, you can apply a wax coating, which will serve both as a protection and add a high-quality appearance for a long time.

Facing the basement of the house with pvc panels is not such a difficult job, but it should be done according to certain rules and in compliance with the technology. After all, the final result will completely depend on the correct installation.
All work is done in several stages, which strictly follow one after the other. There are no trifles here, everything has its consequences.

The right tool and material

For continuous work, you will need to prepare the tool and the necessary materials:

  • Get started with siding. Pay attention to what temperature conditions it tolerates. Give preference to trusted brands. You should not purchase products from unknown manufacturers;
  • Purchase metal or wooden bars in the required volume. We do not forget to treat the latter with antiseptics;
  • For the correct marking, you need a hydraulic level and a nylon thread;
  • Prepare a punch to make holes;
  • Purchase a building level, the length of which should not be less than 1.5 meters;
  • Purchase dowels, while taking into account that the immersion of the element in the base plane should be at least 2/3 of the height of the profile or strip;
  • Screwdriver;
  • A hammer;
  • Bulgarian.

Surface preparation and fastening of the battens

Facing the basement of a house with pvc panels begins precisely with the preparation of the base plane and fastening the battens. A properly prepared surface will allow high-quality fixation of the frame parts, and if a fungus has formed, it should be removed and work done further.
Now everything is in order:

  • First, we inspect the surface and remove the previous coating. If there is high-quality plaster, then it is possible not to remove it, but if there are delaminations, then they should be removed and simply beaten off with a hammer and chisel;
  • After that, we do an inspection. We need to treat the surface with antiseptics that are commercially available.
    They will cure cover diseases and prevent them from developing further.

Attention: If there is no fungus on the wall, it should still be treated, even for prevention purposes. If the disease manifests itself after installing the plastic, then this work will be quite difficult to do. It is better to do it right away.

  • Now we need to apply a primer to the surface that will strengthen it. For this we use a brush or a spray gun.

Next, we install the frame. This must be done correctly and in a certain sequence.
Cladding plinth panels are mounted in two versions: installation can be carried out on a metal frame, or made of wood. In principle, both options are acceptable, only the second is more reliable. Metal is not so susceptible to decay.

Attention: If you chose the second option, then do not forget that before installation, the material must be treated with antiseptics, which will significantly extend the service life of the entire structure. This should be done in advance and let the material dry completely.

So:

  • First, we need to define the plane of attachment. The top must be completely perpendicular to the ground.
    The placement of the panels should be completely parallel to the ground. This cannot be done by eye. We put the risk of starting placement on the wall;

Note: Panels have a certain height. When you put a mark for the beginning of fastening, one thing should be taken into account; the panel must cover the dew point.
And this is the floor level. If this is not done, then condensation may accumulate and the effect of finishing will be much lower. Overlap the floor by 10 cm and no less.

  • After determining the beginning of the siding attachment, we need to transfer this point to other walls, for this we should apply a hydraulic level. With its help, this work can be done with the highest quality.
    We buy it at retail or you can make it yourself. We transfer the size;
  • Now we need to connect these points with one solid line and mark the line of the beginning of the attachment, for this we should use a nylon thread and simply beat off the size;
  • Now we cut the material to the desired size and fasten it strictly along the line. Self-tapping screws are perfect for a wooden wall, if it is made of concrete or brick, then a dowel connection should be made.
    To do this, we make a hole with a punch and after that we make a mount. The first line should be installed 110 mm from the edge.
    Then you will have no problems installing corner elements;

Attention: The frame must be secured sufficiently rigidly. So do not use dowels from the kits, they will not provide reliability. Purchase plastic separately and self-tapping screws for it, only they should be a couple of mm larger than the plastic section. Then we'll have a pretty reliable connection.

  • After setting the bottom contour of the profile, we need to place the cross. Consider the size of the panels right away.
    The connection should only be made on the profile, not on weight. Measure and mark correctly.
    All elements must be in the same plane. To do this, it is worth connecting the edges of the contour diagonally.
    They determine the height of the fastening of the cross members;
  • After that, we cut the material to the desired size and make the fastening in the manner described earlier. Use spacers to adjust the height;
  • After installing the lathing, you can fix the insulation. To do this, first apply a layer of waterproofing.
    We cut it and fasten it. Only it should not be attached end-to-end to the crate. The material should be wrapped on the profile and then the connection should be made;
  • After that, we install the insulation.

Attention: When fixing the insulation, the thickness of the sheets should also be taken into account. The fact is that when attaching the cladding, the material should not deform, otherwise it will lose its properties.
A gap of a couple of cm should be provided. And this will be correct. Therefore, you should decide on this issue when starting work on installing the frame.

Installation of basement siding

The cladding panels for the base / plinth are fixed to a frame, which must be installed according to the dimensions of the panels. Here, the facing of the front plane already begins and the work must be done quite carefully.
The wizards give some advice on how to do this work and should be heeded:

  • In the corners we fix the internal and external elements into which the panels will be inserted. We fix it only in the intended holes, we do not clamp it tightly. We make a backlash of 1-1.5 mm;
  • Facing the basement with pvc panels is done only in a vertical position, so do the calculation when planning on this basis;
  • Fastening should start from left to right and not otherwise. If you get more than one panel, then you should start from the bottom rad and move up.
    Never start attaching the next row without finishing the first;
  • Facing the house with basement panels is done only with the use of a measuring tool. Never make connections without first fitting and trying on.
    First, the panel is tried on and only then attached. When installing, use a building level and a square to check. The wrong configuration will only spoil the appearance;
  • When joining panels, you should always remember about the gap, which must be there. This will keep you out of trouble when expanding materials;
  • Do not make the connection rigidly with the fastening elements. Backlash should be provided.
    This is useful when expanding the material. If the mount is too rigid, then this will lead to deformation during temperature changes;

Attention:
When attaching the elements, you should worry about the penetration depth, which should be at least 12 mm. The material has its own weight and, with a smaller size, will simply unscrew the fasteners in the process.

  • Breathable materials should be used for insulation. Do not use foil;
  • Each panel must be secured at least five points;
  • All fasteners must be installed strictly at an angle of 90 * and not otherwise. If the self-tapping screw went wrong, then it is not worthwhile to tune it in the same place. Step back about two mm and make a connection;
  • With temperature drops, the siding shrinks and expands, this should be taken into account during installation. The size differences reach 6 mm.
    In cold weather, cladding can also be done. Only the temperature should not be less than 10 degrees.
    And we must do everything carefully enough. Plastic becomes quite fragile at sub-zero temperatures.

In many cases, brickwork siding is used.
In this version, the mount is done as follows:

  • Cut the panel along the left edge so that the edge is even;
  • After that, we put the panel into the corner platband into the starting plate and attach it to the batten rail;
  • We perform joining of panels using the groove method. We insert the starting bar into the bar and carry out the fastening;
  • The last panel is first tried on and cut to size. After that, a cash corner is attached and installed, which will hide the joint;
  • We finish the entire surface. And at the end of the work, we fasten the finishing strip of the base.

All the work was done correctly. If you followed the installation technology, then the repair will not bother you soon.

The basement of the facade is a part of the wall of the house up to 1 m wide, which directly touches the ground and protects the building from atmospheric moisture. The plinth carries a very serious architectural and functional load, and therefore high demands are always made on its strength. It is also very important to choose the right material for sheathing the basement of the house, which is not so much a decorative purpose as it increases the resistance of the foundation of the structure to physical influences.

Plinth finishing materials

Today there are three main types of materials for finishing the basement of the house, which can be used for finishing the foundations:

  • vinyl siding;
  • basement siding;
  • fake diamond.

Vinyl siding - is a 2-layer vinyl panel. Their first layer helps to protect the coating from external influences, the second preserves the physical properties of the siding. Plinth trim panels can be used to decorate various parts of the house, its installation is possible on any type of surface.

The versatility of using vinyl panels determines their main advantage over other types of cladding, in addition, this siding is not subject to corrosion, decay, has a long service life and does not require any special handling during maintenance.

Basement siding... Its difference from vinyl consists in its increased strength, thickness of panels, as well as the presence of additional stabilizers in their composition, which increase the resistance of the cladding to various external factors.

In addition, even stone facades over time begin to corrode by moisture and become a breeding ground for various microorganisms that contribute to the "blooming" of the foundation.

Basement panels are devoid of such disadvantages, and the price of such siding is not much higher than the cost of vinyl panels and much lower than the price of natural stone. The service life of this type of material also has higher rates.

As for the variety of models of basement panels, there are a huge variety of them, which allows you to implement even the most creative design ideas. Siding can be styled like brick or masonry and mimic almost any natural material.

Installation of basement panels does not require any special knowledge, special surface preparation or any work of increased labor intensity.

Fake diamond... It is distinguished from its natural counterpart by manufacturability and ease of installation.

If the services of a high-profile specialist are required for laying natural stone, then a home craftsman can also perform work on the installation of artificial material. In addition, all collections of facing stones are supplemented with the necessary corner and rounded elements, allowing you to easily clad corners and doorways.

The price of an artificial stone depends on the complexity of its texture and is more affordable for users than the cost of natural materials.

Vinyl siding paneling

Vinyl panels are molded PVC facing material with a thickness of 1.1-1.5 mm. The dimensions, shape of panels from different manufacturers have their own differences, their length is usually in the range of 3.5-3.8 m, the width can be 20-25 cm.

One side of the panel is provided with holes for stitching and a protrusion of the lock, which ensures the connection of the material, the other side is bent inward and is a counter-lock part.

Decorating the basement of a vinyl siding house with your own hands is carried out by entering part of the lock of the upper panel into engagement with the protrusions of the lower one, and they are attached to the crate with screws or nails.

The package of vinyl siding also includes additional elements necessary for the neat pairing of panels in different planes, corners, openings, etc.

Vinyl siding installation instructions

There are two types:

  • horizontal;
  • vertical.

The first is the most widespread and usually imitates 2 types of wood cladding - "herringbone" and "ship board". have a symmetrical form factor and are more often used in the decoration of non-residential premises.

Basement siding

Basement siding is more suitable for finishing external surfaces, and in particular the foundation. They can cover not only the basement, but also the walls of the house, fence posts, chimneys.

This type of siding is usually an imitation of stone or brickwork, which also determines the specific shape of the panels. To ensure that the joining of adjacent panels is not conspicuous, the protruding parts of the simulated masonry (stone or brick) are left on the left of the panel, and part of the substrate is on the right. Parts of the material are joined by shifting the left side of the panel onto the substrate on the right.

The basement siding differs in smaller dimensions. On average, they are 1270 mm long and 470 mm wide. Facade panels are significantly rougher and less flexible than plain vinyl. The package of such a siding includes the same set of additional elements as in the usual one.

Attention! Installation of basement panels has its own characteristics:

  • laying should be done strictly from left to right;
  • the sheathing should be horizontal, not vertical.

The reason for such requirements is the need to maintain the horizontal lines of the masonry, otherwise the entire masonry will acquire a “non-marketable” appearance.

The variety of textures and colors of facade panels is huge - like stone, brick, wood chips, shingles, etc.

Fake diamond

A very common type of home basement decoration is. It can be made in the following ways:

  • from cement mortar with the addition of natural crumbs;
  • from a solution obtained by mixing cement with sand;

In the production of artificial stone, various dyes are also widely used, providing the material with the color necessary to imitate natural stone.

The shape of an artificial stone reproduces the structure of a natural analogue of the material. The complete set of such siding also has corner and rounded elements, allowing to give a complete version of the plinth.

Today we offer a wide selection of artificial stone, created to imitate all types of natural materials - granite, onyx, marble, sandstone, travertine, slate and various exotic types of stone.

Finishing the basement with artificial stone is done in two ways:

  • using special glue;
  • by using ordinary cement-sand mortar.
