Ceiling wallpaper in the interior: how to design a room inexpensively and beautifully. Wallpaper on the ceiling - a choice of the best design options and a technique for sticking with your own hands (112 photos) Wallpaper on the ceiling options

If you chose ceiling wallpaper for the decoration of the ceiling, let us first find out their advantages and disadvantages, as well as their characteristics, types, colors. Firstly, in comparison with whitewashing, gluing ceiling wallpaper is a pretty clean lesson. Secondly, profitable. For example, Russian ceiling wallpapers are inexpensive - from 28 to 70 rubles per roll. Firms charge an average of 55 rubles per square meter for wallpapering, and 20 rubles per square meter for removing old ones.

Ceiling wallpapers retain their pristine beauty and whiteness for three to five years (if we are talking about domestic ones).

Now about the shortcomings. Gluing the wallpaper on the ceiling is much more complicated than on the walls ( wallpapering), so for this you need a little knack and the help of friends or relatives.

And we must not forget that for the ceiling you need to use the ceiling wallpaper.

Problem of choice

German ceiling wallpaper is in no way inferior to German wallpaper for painting.
But you can’t paint them

Special ceiling wallpapers are made only in Russia.

True, it is not clear yet - why? Either we are gluing wallpaper alone to the ceiling, or the bourgeoisie has some trick.

But the fact remains. The largest manufacturers of wallpaper for the ceiling are Moscow Wallpaper Factory and Mosstroiplastmass OJSC (Mytishchi).

They are also produced in other cities - in Tula, Rostov-on-Don ... The color is only white, but the texture is different - about 200 options. One roll contains 10 meters of 53 cm wide wallpaper.

How do they differ from the rest? To begin with, they are denser than wall ones: two layers of thick paper are glued together and stamped. By the way, it is written on the labels: “Embossed wallpaper.

Designed for gluing walls and ceilings of residential and public buildings. " Due to their thickness and relief, they hide all the irregularities of the ceiling and do not require a perfectly prepared surface.

But such wallpapers will only “live” on the ceiling for about five years. And that’s all. Then you need to re-stick. Because during this time dust will settle on them, cigarette smoke and other things will be absorbed. Moreover, this situation cannot be corrected in any way: Russian ceiling wallpapers are not designed to wash and paint them.

Imported wallpaper for sale is sold in rolls of different lengths and widths and has a wide selection of textures

And what to do? There are two options. Well, firstly, you can still glue it. Because for five whole years you will not have any problems with the ceiling (unless the upper neighbors flood, of course).

And secondly, you can choose imported.

But there is also its own but. Foreigners do not produce special wallpaper for the ceiling! But then they have one wonderful thing called "wallpaper for painting." So, they may well pass for the ceiling.

At least in the West, they glue them wonderfully on the ceiling.

In our stores, wallpapers are sold by German companies AS Creation, AS Erationann, Erismann, Erfurt. So take them.

For example, Erfurt advises using the Raufaser series as wallpaper.

They are made from recycled paper with filing from sawdust. Outwardly, they are very similar to domestic ones. Also bilayer, dense, have a porous structure.

But they differ from ours in that these wallpapers can be painted. They are painted with water dispersion paint. And you can easily do this more than ten times.

Wanted - made a blue ceiling, wanted - peach or red, for example. And so ten times, paint at least every year, until you get bored.

If you are reluctant to tinker with paint, you can buy wallpaper from the Raufaser Color series. They are exactly the same as Raufazer, but already painted in different colors - from light yellow and pink to pale blue.

However, they can also be repainted. The beauty!
Imported wallpaper for painting is not only on a paper basis, but also non-woven (non-woven is a dense cloth that is used in sewing). Non-woven wallpaper also suitable for ceiling. And it’s even easier to glue them than paper ones, because with the glue you need to spread not the wallpaper, but the ceiling.

The only negative is the price. You will have to pay from 180 to 440 rubles per roll, depending on the width and length of the roll (see table). But, on the other hand, it’s better to spend money once, but then about fifteen years later you can’t be afraid to stain it. Repainted - and that’s it. You think so far, but in the meantime we will tell you how to prepare the ceiling for work.

Surface preparation

They are also good because they greatly simplify the process.

To prepare the ceiling, do not wash off the paint or remove whitewash. However, if your ceiling is like a camel’s back, you still can’t do without putty. Still need to find out how horizontal it is? This is done as a simple plumb line, measuring the distance from the floor to the ceiling in the corners of the room. If it turns out that there is still a slope, then again we need putty,if the slope difference is large, then the ceiling is desirable align with drywall. And if the slope is small - no problems at all.

Not necessarily, but it is advisable to finish the ceiling with an acrylic primer. On a primed surface, the wallpaper glues much better than on an unprocessed one. The primer, which looks like milk, does not contain solvents, dries quickly, the surface “breathes” and does not create the so-called greenhouse effect.

Apply it simply with a brush, without any additional tricks. I advise you to use the primers of the German companies "Henkel" and "Pufas" or the Russian "Eurolux" and "Monolith". A five-liter bottle is enough for 50 sq.m. After a few hours, wallpaper can be glued to the ceiling.

Wallpaper on the ceiling - a choice of the best design options and a DIY sticking technique (112 photos)

How to stick them correctly?

There are some subtleties. Imported ones do not need to be impregnated with glue. Either put a glue on the ceiling - and sculpt the wallpaper, or already coated with glue canvases quickly stick on the ceiling. If bubbles form, they are smoothed out very carefully. And in no case with a rag, but with a rubber roller, from the middle to the edges.

With domestic wallpaper, the situation is different.

Before gluing them, it is necessary to impregnate them with glue. Just be careful. The label says that the wallpaper "should be soaked for 10 - 15 minutes." But they warned me: 10 minutes is the limit. Otherwise, the embossing will disperse, the wallpaper may break, and there will already be nothing to glue.

Yes! Another important detail. In no case do not use your favorite Soviet method - sticking wallpaper on newspapers. Firstly, now as a basis, as in all civilized countries, they take a primer.

And secondly, in a couple of years, yellow newspaper spots will certainly appear on the wallpaper.

Now about what glue is needed.

Specialists advise using special wallpaper glue or “Moment-Extra” glue from Henkel.

Ripping off old wallpaper from the ceiling is easy. You need to pick up the wallpaper from the edge and pull it slightly - they will lag behind by themselves.

True, this will only happen if the correct glue has been chosen. The glue is washed off with warm water and soda. Do not worry about the primer - it is waterproof, nothing will happen to it.

If you all accidentally stained the ceiling. Imported wallpaper is simpler: the stain can be repainted, a dent over time, according to the instructions, "self-destructs." As for the domestic wallpaper, there's nothing to be done: you have to roll up your sleeves and glue a couple of canvases. But, I emphasize, this is easily and simply solved if this is a special ceiling wallpaper, and not the first ones that came to hand.

Otherwise, it will then be very difficult to tear them off the ceiling. Discuss the article on the forum

Glossy wallpaper for the ceiling: a choice

It’s hard to understand what it is: a glued glossy self-adhesive gypsum ceiling or PVC film tension

Despite the wide range of roller coatings that manufacturers offer to cope with the surfaces in the house, the background for the glossy ceiling is on a special account with designers.

In the end, not only decorate the ceiling surface, but also help solve the problems associated with the visualization of space.

A good but more expensive alternative is PVC foil stretch varnish. Which one is better for functionality and aesthetics?

In this issue, we will try to understand this article.

Varieties of glossy coatings

Ceiling wallpaper often: textured; relief; shallow or deep relief; for painting or only white that cannot be painted.

They are mainly used for gluing flat ceilings or drywall.

Although there are special ceiling wallpapers, all wall options are suitable for this. At the same time, due to the large assortment, you can always choose what fits perfectly into the interior.

Variety of interior with colored background on the ceiling

Glossy Wallpaper

The brilliant background gives a completely different role and does not contribute to it - because of its reflective surface, visually expand the space, resulting in a room with a lower ceiling above.

  • They are not glued over the entire surface of the ceiling - well, except that they do this in a very small room.

    Most often, glossy wallpapers are used at the exhibition of suspended ceilings.

  • When creating the background, the reflective surface is obtained by chemical exposure (braking). They can be monophonic or contain drawings.
  • Use inhibitors on paper coated with vinyl; these substances prevent the formation of foam.

    Then the background goes into a special oven. Watch the video about who is interested in this process.

  • If there is a wallpaper, inhibitors can only be used for it.

    Consequently, only areas where this substance does not expand and does not increase. A relief relief with a shiny surface.

  • If the inhibitor refers to the entire surface of the grid, it becomes glossy. Of all these shades, it depends on the price of the product.
  • Today's popular murals get that way.

    Only for the base - paper with a photographic image printed on it. Above the ceilings, the possibilities of the theme “clouds”, “starry sky” of “tree tops” are popular - all this inspires the idea of \u200b\u200bheights.

Such wallpapers are very durable and resistant to ultraviolet radiation. They can be used not only for the design of ceilings, but also for walls. Their characteristics are ideal for wet rooms: kitchens, bathrooms and balconies.

Self-adhesive film

The film can also be seen as a kind of brilliant backdrop.

How to lay the background on the ceiling - Complete the procedure in the article with instructions

The only difference is how they stick together on the surface. There are also some differences in the design of the front surface.

This self-adhesive film has many more features.

In the end, you can paste it anywhere: on tiles, on furniture, on any metal object - for example: a refrigerator or an entrance door.

How to use in the ceiling decor

Since the material already has an adhesive backing, various types of ceiling surfaces, including plastic, can be decorated with such a film.

There are also small stickers for this.

  • Films, as well as wallpapers, can be monophonic or patterned. False ceilings are often used because sometimes the configuration of the ceiling is quite complicated and it is easier to stick to the film.
  • For example, to cover the petals of a massive clay cardboard chamomile with a normal background, you need to suffer a lot and turn your ends.

    Self-adhesive film, this process is very simple, and there is no need to dilute the adhesive.

  • It is even easier to glue the adhesive with an adhesive layer on the back of the bottom or a geometrically regular niche. This work will not be difficult to do with your own hands, as well as without the help of assistants.

In general, drywall ceilings are leading in the use of glossy films.

In the end, the GKL surface needs to be completed. Under the picture, he needs grinding whales. Self-adhesive film simultaneously solves all problems, and in addition to surface treatment, it does not require anything.

It offers self-adhesive work

Label technology is quite simple, but there are some shades. Thus, a little instruction will not hurt.

  • Suppose you stick a film to a plywood ceiling. Then you need to remove the bumps and roughness and open it with acrylic powder.
  • If you stick a glass or metal surface, it must be degreased.

    In general, each surface should be smooth and smooth.

There is a mark on the back that makes cutting easier

  • Cutting film on plates or trimming is very convenient. On the back there is a tiny grid that makes it easy to measure, make a pencil mark and cut.
  • Do not remove the backing with a piece of film.

    Firstly, a small area is separated, literally from three to four centimeters, and is used in the right place.

  • Then, carefully, avoiding the appearance of bubbles, align and push the film onto the surface with a dry cloth.

Then gradually pull out the paper cushion.

The self-adhesive film has one invaluable quality - it can be removed twice from the substrate twice a second. This is so if something did not work out.

Which is better: stretch film or self-adhesive material

If you carefully look at the photos presented in this article, it will become clear that with the help of stretching and self-adhesive films you can make the same design options.

At the same time, it is almost impossible to find out what is.

Note. Self-adhesive advantages are that you can create a separate ceiling plan for a fairly modest amount of money (the most expensive mirror, the cost of 600 r / mp). And if you need to polish a small part of the ceiling - this is the most convenient option. In any case, special equipment is not required here, as with a ceiling.

However, in order to deal with large areas, it is better not to use glossy wallpaper for the ceiling, but to stretch the film.

The width of the canvas is up to 5 m, and self-adhesive - only 45 cm.

Accordingly, we get more seams that are unlikely to decorate the decorated surface.

Therefore, it is better to decide what is best, only with a ceiling configuration and a version of its design.

Modern ceiling design

The design of the ceilings with the advent of new finishing materials has become an interesting and significant transformation of residential premises.

It is not surprising that the most daring and creative decorators are the main focus of their unusual design decisions. In this case, the classics of decades of proven finishes stop disappearing - they can best fit into the existing situation.

Types of Ceiling Finishes

The most traditional, but not always simple - painting the ceiling.

The painting should be performed slowly, smoothly and evenly so that the updated ceiling was not visible due to operational errors and had a neutral, identical appearance.

Wallpaper on the ceiling: how to choose the perfect finishing material (23 photos)

Before painting, the surface should be perfectly leveled - the fresh color clearly highlights all the irregularities. The ceiling must first be painted - walls and floor.

Self-adhesive ceilings have become popular in recent years.

The main reason for this is their relatively cheap and easy installation. Foam can be attached to grease or glue, which is easier to handle. The tile may be smooth or with some patterns. You can draw some of their types that allow you to determine the color of a future new ceiling. An additional advantage of this finishing material is that it improves the sound insulation of the room.

If you like wallpaper on the ceiling, we will say that this process is not easy.

But a wide range of backgrounds with different shapes often pushes hosts to this particular solution.

Dry wall ceilings, most often surfaces that are difficult to level.

Installation is not so difficult, and this material serves for a long time. After installing the sheets, the ceiling can be decorated to your liking.

Ceilings are the most expensive and prestigious closure option. The basis of their design is a special frame that expands the fabric of polyester or PVC. It is better to contact installation specialists.

Hot polymer cloth and insert it into the frame. Upon cooling, the film stretches and becomes completely homogeneous. Such ceilings can imitate metals and marble, suede and leather, a mirror and even photograph the owner of the apartment!

Finally, the second option is the upper limit of the fabric.

As with any textile material, for this purpose it can be dyed with appropriate colors. In general, today there are many opportunities for creating ceilings.

Ceiling decor in the kitchen

Currently, the kitchen has become the real heart of every apartment ...

Despite the popularity of stretch ceilings or multi-level, complex structures, for example, from drywall, many apartment owners still want to see a wallpaper pane above their heads. And such a decision has not lost its relevance. On the contrary, thanks to various materials with rich colors and an abundance of prints, you can create anything on the ceiling: from a completely plausible illusion of a starry sky to a blooming garden of Eden. Manufacturers will find the answer for both high-tech interiors and classic rooms. The article will focus on decorating the ceiling with wallpaper.

Non-woven ceiling wallpaper

Flizelin is a web of cellulose fibers and some ingredients to improve the quality of the material. Since 70% of this coating is a natural component, the wallpapers are safe and vapor permeable. They are considered extremely durable, and are able to hide some minor surface defects. Many properties are attributed to them, but these are decisive in the choice and correspond to reality:

  • The coating is really capable of masking small irregularities and even reinforcing microcracks. But this in no way cancels the preparatory phase of the work before gluing the wallpaper on the ceiling, when the surface is inspected for defects and disposed of if detected. Relying on a solid foundation and embossed pattern is not worth it. Otherwise, even an expensive coating will look messy and unacceptable.

Wallpaper on the ceiling photo

  • Flizelin as a basis does not allow wallpaper to stretch and soak. Comfort at work is a valuable quality of any material.
  • The simplicity of pasting also lies in the fact that the application of glue does not occur on a wide canvas, but directly on the base. This not only increases the speed of decoration, but also facilitates the docking when it is necessary to adjust the pattern on adjacent canvases.
  • There are no restrictions on gluing non-woven wallpaper. They perfectly decorate the ceiling of any material.
  • Hygiene and non-toxicity are important characteristics, so you can safely decorate the ceiling in the children's room with non-woven wallpaper.
  • Manufacturers guarantee that under the influence of sunlight such a coating will not lose the brightness of the colors.
  • They are released, including for painting.
  • Among the positive aspects of their application are called the ease of dismantling: when the top layer can be easily removed without prolonged soaking. And after that, the ceiling will cover an even layer of non-woven base. A consumer with any income level can afford to purchase them, because the price of a roll depends on the popularity of the manufacturer’s brand, texture, color or wallpaper belonging to a particular collection.

Types of wallpaper made of non-woven fabric

When buying, it is important to clarify what the seller offers: wallpaper based on non-woven or non-woven coating proper.

  • As you can easily guess in the first case, we are talking about the fact that in the first case, textile fibers act as a substrate for a layer of finely porous vinyl. Their distinguishing mark is a smooth back, on which the pattern from the decorative coating is not duplicated.

  • Fully non-woven wallpaper after rolling through the rollers, giving the structure, have a relief on the back. They are considered a durable, durable coating.
  • By purchasing wallpaper for painting, the buyer receives a field for experimenting with color. To create unique interiors is a good solution. You can repaint the coating several times. The non-woven properties will be preserved while the wallpaper will not be deformed and will not lose texture.
  • Some types of wallpaper for painting come with a printed tone. When purchasing this option, one must keep in mind that the applied color can differ in color from the planned result.

Non-woven wallpaper is also divided by the type of decorative layer:

  • embossed;
  • smooth;
  • corrugated.

Various drawings are applied to them: from geometric to floral, the texture can be almost imperceptible or pronounced. Plain wallpapers are presented as abundantly as multicolor ones. There is a choice, and therefore freedom for creativity.

How to stick non-woven wallpaper on the ceiling

The pasting procedure is pretty standard.

  • You should get rid of the old coating, even if it is a very strong holding paper wallpaper. Rinse off whitewash necessarily. This must be done carefully so that spots or poorly cleaned surfaces do not subsequently appear on the wallpaper. As mentioned above, their dense structure is not a reason to neglect the preparatory phase of the work.
  • The surface is leveled.
  • Even if the ceiling is not putty, it is worth covering it with a primer layer and letting it dry properly.
  • Wallpaper is cut into paintings of the desired size.
  • The adhesive composition must be bought specifically for non-woven wallpaper. It is quite economical, and is applied directly to the ceiling.
  • Cloths are glued butt.

Painting wallpaper for the ceiling

If non-woven wallpaper was bought with the expectation of further painting, then this should be done a few days after pasting the ceiling. The increased humidity in the room and a temperature of less than 15 ° C are a reason to increase the pause between stages. Coating can be repainted up to seven times. Apply latex, water-based and acrylic paints.

  • The floor is covered with polyethylene or covered with newspapers.
  • If you plan to use several colors or paint a certain part of the ceiling, then stripes of masking tape must be glued along the borders of the application.
  • The roller should be thoroughly “bathed” in the paint so that it is absorbed into the fibers as best as possible and does not drip off at the very first attempt to raise a hand with an instrument to the ceiling.

  • Everywhere where the roller is not able to provide uniform staining, use a brush.
  • If you want to completely fill all the grooves and convexities of the drawing, then use a roller with a thick pile. A rubber hard tool will allow you to apply color only to the relief elements of the pattern. When staining in this way, you do not need to press the roller too tightly to the wallpaper.

Wallpaper color for ceiling

  • Traditionally, light and calm tones of warm or cold colors are used for ceilings, but not pronounced, but muted. The recommendations can be violated if the design of the room provides for blooming orchids or bright lace patterns on the ceiling.
  • You can combine colors or several types of non-woven wallpaper. This will allow you to achieve the effect of multi-level ceilings or create a feeling of depth, space. So you can separate the perimeter of the surface from its central part or perform zoning (for example, decorate the ceiling only above the bed or sitting area in the living room).
  • Plain lacquered glossy surfaces can be successfully diluted with inserts with a pattern or other contrasting color.

Vinyl wallpaper on the ceiling

  • Vinyl wallpapers along with non-woven ones are popular among those who wish to update the interior of their own apartment. They are distinguished by durability, a large number of variations on the theme of color, texture and pattern, but they can be looked after using wet cleaning.

  • The basis for them can be paper or non-woven. The second option is preferable, but also costs more. The price may be affected by the thickness of the PVC layer. Not too thick vinyl wallpaper is permissible only to wipe with a slightly damp cloth. More thorough specimens can easily withstand full cleaning with water.

Vinyl wallpapers are also available for painting. Other varieties include:

  • foamed vinyl coating without patterns extruded onto the surface. They are quite dense, when pasting the ceilings with such wallpaper, small defects are hidden, including poorly putty joints between the sheets of drywall .;
  • hot stamping vinyl coatings. They look original due to the plausible imitation of a wide variety of materials:
    • textured plaster with various patterns,
    • stone
    • textile coating.
  • Their second name is CD Vinyl. They are considered especially resistant to damage, easy to operate. But such wallpapers are nevertheless appreciated for a variety of decorative effects. Silkscreen printing is very popular today, but such a smooth surface will ideally look only on a carefully leveled base;

  • chemical stamping allows you to create another type of vinyl wallpaper - inhibited. To clean them, you can use cleaning products, and in terms of moisture resistance, they are considered real champions among their own kind. Therefore, they can decorate the ceilings even in such a finicky room with regard to finishing materials, such as a kitchen.

What is cullet?

Cullets are not quite the usual material for pasting ceilings in an apartment. Various sizes of fiberglass become a blank for yarn. From it, using a special technology, weave a base on which various drawings are applied. “Born” is a coating of quartz sand, lime, dolomite and soda. It is completely environmentally friendly, does not contain harmful impurities. Exceptional wear resistance is not the only advantage of this material.

  • Incombustibility. This statement does not require verification. Just remember the composition of the wallpaper. They do not emit substances harmful to humans and the environment when heated, and prevent the further spread of fire.
  • Contribute to maintaining a good microclimate in the room.
  • Wash with any cleaning agent, do not attract dust.
  • Very durable. This positive point is important not only when working with material. The surface pasted with such wallpaper receives additional reinforcement.
  • Durability. Manufacturers declare that the service life of such wallpaper is 30 years.
  • It is possible to repaint once pasted cullet up to 20 times. The number of operations will not affect the picture in any way.
  • Cullets in the interior. This coating has an interesting relief pattern. Most often this is a Christmas tree or rhombuses, however, many companies are engaged in the manufacture of custom-made material, and any print of interest to the buyer will flaunt on the ceiling in his house. The main thing is that such a structure is suitable for any interior, it is only important to choose the right complement for it, for example, stucco molding for the classical style or to create a romantic atmosphere with the help of color or give a strict look.

The nuances of choice

It is important to know not only how to glue this material, but also how to choose it correctly. High-quality cullet will be the key to a long service life, and their appearance will be impeccable. This is especially significant when wallpapers are selected for the ceiling in the kitchen and require periodic washing, especially above the hob.

Some tricks from unscrupulous manufacturers may look like this:

  • the canvases are impregnated with a starch-based compound, they thus become more dense and embossed. And after a piece of material is impregnated with glue, which will dissolve the starch, the whole clear pattern will disappear with it;
  • the fibers are specially “combed”, fluffing them to achieve the same beautiful relief. After gluing, the effect achieved artificially disappears.

Unfortunately, one can check such a deception only after a test piece of the canvas is glued to the surface. One of the “indicators” of quality coverage is the availability of a long warranty period. If it is absent or insignificant - this is an occasion to refuse the purchase. Do not neglect the request to deploy the roll. It should be intact, without cracks and chipped fragments. If any were found, that means the products are base. The edges of a decent sample do not shag. They are processed and look like an even, neat and “sealed” cut. Another guarantee of quality is the purchase of material from trusted brands. But glass from famous manufacturers has its own (for many consumers a very significant) drawback. It is a high cost. In any case, before buying a product of a particular brand or price category, it is better to look for reviews about it.

How to glue the cullet on the ceiling

  • Before gluing the wallpaper on the ceiling, the surface should be leveled and cleaned of the old coating. First, the roll of material is cut into canvases of the required length with a small margin for fitting. Next, you will need to decide in which direction the work will be carried out: sheets can be glued from the wall or from the middle of the ceiling. For convenience, an indicative line is drawn along which the first piece of canvas is located. The glue is applied by roller directly to the ceiling, so it would be better to pour a small amount into the paint tray.
  • Apply the adhesive composition in strips that are slightly wider than the cullet. The optimum width is +5 cm to sheet sizes. Places that are difficult to process with a roller (corners, areas near pipes) pass with a brush or brush. The cut-off piece is applied to the surface smeared with glue and leveled using a wallpaper spatula. It is not necessary to iron the edges of the sheet if another fragment is glued next to it. This "trick" will help during the docking of two pieces.

  • When carrying out pasting, it is important to ensure that the relief pattern matches. Here the stock that was laid at the cutting stage is also useful. If you look closely, the texture of the picture in the form of slightly protruding tubercles and small indentations will become visible. The next section is smeared with glue. Now you need to attach a sheet of cullet close to the already glued canvas. Gently moving the loose piece, you need to combine the pattern on both parts of the material. The adjustment distance is usually small and does not exceed a few millimeters. Over the entire length of the joint, excess glue is gently removed with a dry cloth. After that, they pass with a spatula and along the seam and along the piece just pasted.
  • After completion of work, the windows in the room should be tightly closed to avoid drafts. The drying process will take much more time in this case, but it will affect the quality in the best way. In addition, experts advise to protect the glass from direct sunlight during the drying period of the glue. It is easiest to close the windows with curtains, and if repairs are done in a room where they are not already available, seal the opening with newspapers.

Glass painting

This stage is probably the most pleasant and less difficult of all. This is not so much finishing work as the creation of interior design. However, some subtleties are still there.

  • If you plan to get a uniform and uniform color on the ceiling, then when painting, you should use a structural roller, which will evenly distribute the particles of paint on the coating and “imprint” them in the texture of the canvas.
  • Sometimes, according to a creative idea, the ceiling should have light streaks in the main color. Then you have to purchase a hard and dense foam (or rubber) roller. It will not provide such a filling of the material, and unpainted areas are formed.

  • Hard-to-reach places and joints with the wall are traditionally treated with a brush. You need to paint in thin layers, the total number of which should not be more than three. Before each new application, be sure to let the previous layer dry for at least 12 hours. For reference: the consumption of 600 grams of paint per m² is considered optimal. Small changes in this indicator are possible due to the density of the selected material. Very dense wallpapers will require more consumption and vice versa.

What paint is better to choose. For work in residential areas, it is recommended to give preference to water-based paint, which was based on acrylic binders. It is applied easily, dries quickly and does not have a sharp irritating odor.

Liquid wallpaper on the ceiling

Those who have not yet encountered this type of coating should take this material into account. At its core, this is not so much a wallpaper as a kind of decorative plaster.

Distinctive features are:

  • elasticity. They are well suited for rooms with "complex" surfaces: a large number of angles, niches, ledges;
  • liquid wallpaper firmly adheres to any kind of surface;
  • this coating has a good antistatic effect. Dust practically does not settle on them. And as an option for cleaning, dry vacuuming is offered;
  • the environmental friendliness of liquid wallpaper is determined by the composition: textile fibers (most often rayon), cellulose. The component that serves as a binder for them is also obtained in the process of wood processing;
  • vapor permeability;
  • after application, liquid wallpaper is not only a decorative coating, but also play the role of a heat and sound insulation layer;
  • ease of replacement. If part of the coating is damaged, updating the entire surface is not required. Only the damaged area of \u200b\u200bthe wallpaper is subject to replacement. The main thing is that no difference between the new and the old coating will be noticeable.

Minus one: fear of moisture. In the kitchen, such material would be inappropriate. But due to the environmental friendliness and ease of repair, this type of wallpaper can decorate not only the ceiling in a children's room.

How to apply liquid wallpaper on the ceiling

  • The preparation process is quite standard: old coatings are removed, the surface is putty if necessary. The application process assumes that the composition of the wallpaper will contain a certain amount of liquid that the putty does not tolerate. Therefore, before applying the wallpaper, the ceiling can be painted with water-based paint. As an alternative, at the leveling stage, you can add PVA glue to the gypsum putty in a ratio of 3 to 1. If the ceiling is a GVL structure, then it is recommended to putty the entire surface, and not just the joints.
  • It is better to mix the wallpaper with the use of a construction mixer, then in the process a large number of lumps do not form. First, warm water is poured into the prepared container, and a mixture is added to it in small portions with continuous stirring. After which it is kept for about 20 minutes, again intensively mixed and the application begins.

  • The mixture is collected in small portions on a spatula and gently spread over the surface. There should not be any obvious transitions between application areas. Roughness, an empty area can be easily eliminated if slightly moistened with water and smoothed with a spatula with a small amount of the mixture. Do not zeal in the desire to make adjustments. Watering already applied wallpaper more than three times is not recommended.
  • Depending on the layer thickness, humidity and temperature in the room, liquid wallpaper will take from 12 hours to three days to dry. For those who are not afraid of difficulties, you can try to combine several colors or make a pattern of liquid wallpaper in one shade, and fill the background with another contrasting color.

Do not be afraid to use new materials or use already proven coatings. Everything that is done in compliance with technology and with taste will never go out of fashion!

Ceiling decoration is a true art, combining knowledge of finishing materials and cladding technologies with excellent taste when choosing a stylistic solution. It would seem that there is nothing easier than sticking wallpaper on the ceiling: a photo with an exquisite design can be easily found on the Internet. However, it is not enough to find the sample you like, it is necessary to determine whether it is suitable for the interior of a particular room. Dive into the variety of ceiling wallpaper and choose the best options.

Ceiling decoration, more suitable for wall decoration, is a bit strange and even bold solution for a modern interior spoiled by creative ideas and elegant designs.

Photo of the dining room, where instead of the standard design - a flowering garden

There are many options for finishing the ceiling area: from practical drywall constructions located in two tiers to perfectly smooth stretch linens. However, wallpapering remains popular for the following reasons:

  • low price of the material;
  • affordable cost of pasting services;
  • the ability to quickly update the ceiling;
  • inexpensive repair.

If you urgently need to refresh the interior, then the wallpaper will help out: they can be glued to the walls and ceiling. The work of professionals takes no more than one day, you can independently manage in two.

A time-consuming ceiling decoration needs an assistant

Another plus concerns the variety of design: photo interiors with matte and glossy, bright and pastel, neutral and contrasting wallpaper on the ceiling are better than any argument.

Luxurious floristic theme in photo execution

Of course, there are restrictions on the use of certain types in small rooms. For example, in a small kitchen with a wall height of 2.5 m, you cannot decorate the ceiling with dark, motley or too colorful models - an already tiny room will resemble a cramped closet.

Kitchen-dining room with loft style elements

But in the spacious living rooms, halls or bedrooms there is the possibility of implementing the most fantastic projects, from budget to luxury.

Types of ceiling wallpaper

To start the choice of decorative design should not be with the selection of colors or textures, but with the determination of the type according to the material of manufacture. The range of offers is great: from inexpensive paper options to premium collections, which are used in the manufacture of bamboo, cotton, natural silk. Custom-made decor is possible if you want to decorate the ceiling with photo printing or 3D volumetric image. In more detail - in the description to a photo.

Paper

The most affordable type of wallpaper from all offered. A great option for young families or owners of rental housing, who decided to quickly change the look of the dining room or studio, spending a minimum of family savings. Standard rolls are lightweight, that is, they are quite suitable for self-assembly.

Delicate mother-of-pearl shine is able to visually “raise” the ceiling

This is one of the most environmentally friendly proposals, but there is a significant minus - the inability to use paper cladding in rooms with high humidity. If you paste over the kitchen, less than a month will pass before the paper strips peel off. Even a two-layer duplex, which resists deformation when exposed to external factors, will not withstand the hot steam accompanying cooking.

Bright design for dry rooms

The paper finish design is more reminiscent of traditional wall solutions: neutral colors, floral patterns, geometric images - circles, stripes, waves, light texture.

Non-woven

Homeowners who prefer to create interesting projects with their own hands love the non-woven ceiling wallpaper. Everything is wonderful in them: from a combination of technical characteristics to a stylish design, ideal for decorating ceilings.

Bright blue drawing for an interior in modernist style

The secret of users' love lies in the ease of installation. The basis of rolled products - non-woven cellulose non-woven, which allows you to paste pieces of wallpaper without prior preparation. It is enough to spread the ceiling with glue and press the cut fragment to the surface. The only difficulty that may arise is the need to adjust the image or pattern.

Textured wallpapers are often monophonic, as in the following photo:

Combined two-tone solution

Non-woven products are more expensive than paper ones, but this is fully paid for by durability, strength and other characteristics. Colors do not fade and retain brightness throughout the service. However, like paper, non-woven varieties are best used for decorating rooms where there is no high humidity and sudden temperature changes - that is, for the dining room, living room, hall.

Vinyl

Perhaps one of the best types for decorating the kitchen because of its practicality. Vinyl models are often used for decorating walls, much less often for ceilings. In a dining room or studio with good ventilation, providing moderate dry air, they are often used to highlight the dining area.

Decorative strip from ceiling to wall

Vinyl is an artificial polymer that does not allow moisture to pass, respectively, which perfectly tolerates wet cleaning. The dense coating is characterized by wear resistance, elasticity, does not fade even from direct sunlight. The substrate and the decorative layer are treated with an antiseptic, so mold does not threaten the appearance of a beautiful surface. Gluing vinyl is as easy as non-woven analogue.

Which wallpaper to choose on the kitchen ceiling depends on the degree of preparation of the walls. For example, textured models made of foamed vinyl will easily hide the flaws of the plaster.

How to process joints, shown in the photo:

Fabric

Decorative coatings with inclusions of natural threads, that is, fabric, are rarely used in the kitchen. The main reason for failure is complex surface care. Silk, wool and especially cotton fibers do not tolerate high temperature and hot steam, and it is almost impossible to remove greasy stains from a beautiful canvas. If you like fabric options, it is best to leave them to decorate the bedroom.

Colorful ornament for terrace design

With the help of textile ceiling decor, you can create a dining area located at some distance from the stove. If the decor is not threatened by kitchen fumes, then velor, cotton stuffing, and volumetric tufting will do.

For painting

Wallpaper designed for painting allows you to change the color of the ceiling several times. The composition of the decorative coating withstands up to 10 layers of paint, without changing its characteristics. If the products are designed for 6-8 paints, they will easily transfer the specified number of updates, while maintaining the strength, wear resistance and abutment density declared by the manufacturers.

Products for painting - a great opportunity to experiment with color combinations

Excellent bonding quality is due to the same non-woven backing, thanks to which the roll material is easy to mount and just as easy to remove. The top layer may be paper or fiberglass. The second type is much more durable and easier to care for.

What wallpaper to choose

Having decided on the material from which the wallpaper is made, you can begin to choose a design. It depends on the style and surrounding palette, mainly you should focus on the color of the walls and furniture. Beautiful photos of ceiling wallpaper in the interior are a great basis for creating your own ideas for housing redesign.

Smooth

Decorating without relief is ideal for landscaping small rooms. A bright glossy surface visually expands the boundaries and increases the height of the room, reflecting the light of chandeliers and built-in spotlights. Smooth cladding in harmony with the facade of the kitchen, window framing, ceramics on the walls and floor.

The dark color and motley pattern only emphasizes the volume of a large room

The pattern helps to diversify a simple smooth surface: abstract images, stains, stripes and lines, flowers. Using a photo, it’s easy to imagine how the decor will look like a cage or floral print.

Wall and ceiling finishes

Smooth models include wallpaper with photo printing - vivid images of animals, forest landscapes, sea surf or the sky in the clouds.

Textured

Unlike smooth varieties, the stylish look of textured patterns is based on the use of an uneven, embossed surface.

Among this type of wallpaper, several groups can be distinguished:

  • imitation of granite chips, marble, plaster, concrete pavement;
  • ornament of identical geometric shapes;
  • wood-like or leather design;
  • abstraction and others

The photo clearly shows how embossed decoration emphasizes the classic design of the room.

Snow-white wallpaper with a light texture - a traditional solution for the design of a living room

It is necessary to glue pieces with a relief surface more accurately than smooth analogues, since knocking down a texture, even if it is made of foamed vinyl, is quite easy.

Solid

One-color decor, without images, ornaments and patterns, is present in almost all interior styles. White surfaces are characteristic of the Scandinavian countries, all shades of blue and blue are typical of the Mediterranean, Provence is known for its natural shades - from sand to green, classic - in pastel colors and gilding.

Olive provence-style kitchen-dining design

If you doubt the choice of color, we recommend white - it creates a convenient background for using various types of decor or contrasting interior items. The photo clearly shows how the snow-white walls and ceiling make the kitchen even more spacious.

White background for natural decor

Plain trim is good for combining. For example, a two-tier ceiling can be partially pasted with white wallpaper, partially with a picture, an extraordinary and fresh design will be obtained.

With an image

Bright textured and colorful coatings must be treated with caution. Patterns on the ceiling are contraindicated in small kitchens, as they reduce the height of the premises. They are also undesirable in combination with a colorful wall decoration that is covered with rich images or colorful ornaments.

The appropriate combination of the "honeycomb" pattern with plain surfaces of walls and furniture

Here is a photo of wallpaper on the ceiling, on which decorative decoration is not just a background, but along with a lamp serves as a decoration of the room:

Interior with Art Nouveau Elements

The degree of brightness of the patterns largely depends on the environment. More colorful shades enliven the interior, while pale ones hinder the dynamic wall cladding.

Beautiful lilac decoration to match the wall trim

With the help of patterns and ornaments in the national style, you can give the room a distinctive sound or emphasize a fashionable direction.

Ceiling Wallpaper Care

The rules of care depend on the material from which the top decorative layer is made. If it is covered with a thick polymer film or paint, you can safely wipe the surface with a damp cloth using non-aggressive detergents.

Waterproof surfaces wiped with a damp cloth or sponge

Paper wallpapers can be vacuumed by setting the switch to minimum power, and fabric wallpapers can also be vacuumed or wiped with a sponge slightly moistened in water (except for light shades). Unfortunately, voluminous greasy spots, traces of fruits or berries cannot be removed, the ceiling decoration will have to be completely replaced.

DIY non-woven finish:

Decorating the ceiling with wallpaper is an interesting idea, but requiring professional implementation. If you are not confident in your abilities, we recommend that you seek the advice of an experienced designer, and to implement the plan, invite a team of finishers.

Provence-style decorative beam ceiling

Starting cosmetic repairs in our home, the first thing we think about is what wallpaper to choose for the walls. They have long become classics for decorating living spaces. Meanwhile, few people know how great your living room or bedroom can look if the paintings are also glued to the ceiling.

Such decoration is a budget option, not everyone can afford exclusive plasterboard or tension surfaces. In addition, suspended structures take from 5 to 15 centimeters of room height, which is practically unrealistic in Soviet-built apartments with a ceiling height of two and a half meters.

We will try using the photo to convey to you all the possible information about what types of ceiling wallpapers exist, and how to use them to create a beautiful and cozy interior.

Finishing points: pros and cons

Even in the classic living room, the paintings on the ceiling were in place

Wallpaper is not so fundamentally different from the wall options. But still, they have their own characteristics. The structure is denser and consists of two paper canvases.

Wall and ceiling products - what is the difference

Only a few Russian enterprises produce ceiling wallpapers. In other countries, this concept does not exist - ordinary wall glues abroad. Their service life is much longer, you can refresh the surface with paint several times.

If the drawing is suitable

  • The disadvantages of this finish include its relative fragility, fear of ultraviolet rays, the inability to use in conditions of high humidity. Domestic wallpaper cannot be washed or painted. Therefore, they will have to be changed every five to six years. Although, the low price of such a finishing material allows such a frequent update.
  • Design does not require such thorough preparation as for painting (read more) or whitewashing. Small cracks and stains, of course, will close, but nevertheless, the surface should be smooth, and the plaster should hold well. Otherwise, the laborious work of leveling the surface cannot be avoided.

Tip: If you want to do this work yourself, it’s best to watch the video for clarity. But, once having made a high-quality alignment of the ceiling, you can no longer think about this topic.

  • Modern plaster mixes, subject to the technology of work, create a very durable and perfectly even surface. You will only have to change the upper finishing layer at will.

Creating a composition

Using wallpaper for, in comparison with coloring, gives much more opportunities for creating an interesting design. You can choose the color of the ceiling for the wallpaper of the walls so that their combination will look like a single whole.

To do this, use the same pattern with a different shade, or the shade is the same, but the pattern is different. Various variations of stripes and geometric shapes look especially good.

  • If you include imagination and combine among themselves several wallpapers that are different in color and texture, your room will acquire an unusual and cozy interior. In principle, any canvases are suitable for this.
  • And it is not necessary that the sticker should be over its entire area - you can cut individual ornaments and put them around the perimeter, or around the chandelier.
  • Having decided to use wallpaper to decorate the ceiling, few people want it to be just white or plain. Everyone wants something unusual. But in order that the interior does not look clumsy, you should carefully consider the combination of patterns on the walls and ceiling. It’s like a face make-up: if you want to focus on it, do it on one thing. Here it is: if you want to highlight the ceiling, the walls should be neutral.
  • In the case when both the walls and the ceiling are glued with exactly the same wallpaper, in order to avoid monotony, the joints of their planes must be separated by clear lines. Achieve this by using contrasting baguettes, plastic corners or.

The front side is usually stamped, with a predominance of light colors. This is due to the fact that a lighter shade of the ceiling makes the room visually higher. For too high rooms, you can use the reverse reception.

Thematic selection of drawing

If you have not thought through the composition of the room’s interior in advance and decided that the ceiling in it should be a monophonic color, you will have to select the wall-paper under the pink ceiling, or blue - as it happens.

  • Many people are not indifferent to space compositions, and dream of creating such a ceiling in their home. That is why the wallpaper "starry sky" is very popular. Such a picture looks fantastic, as if it takes you to another dimension.
  • And now you can create this beauty not only with the help of a stretch fabric or drywall construction. Manufacturers of decorative materials offer wallpaper "sky", which are made quite simply.
  • Phosphorus-containing paint is applied to the surface of the material with a starry pattern. Glue them in the same way as any others. With the onset of darkness, the wallpaper sky “come to life” and begin to glow, creating the atmosphere of a starry night.
  • The theme of space can also be expressed with the help of another drawing - wallpaper on the ceiling of the “cloud” is great for any living room.
  • It is selected depending on what room it is in and on the degree of illumination in the daytime. Wallpaper for the bedroom ceiling, for example, you can choose darker, but their color should not be too intense. In a room intended for sleep and rest, soothing tones should prevail.
  • The only room in the house where there are no windows and is quite crowded is the entrance hall. Therefore, the ceiling in it should be uniquely bright. Choosing wallpaper in the hallway, you need to try to choose a picture that visually expand the space.
  • To do this, you can combine dark and light wallpapers, separating their joints with a decorative strip. Their color should be in harmony with other surfaces. And in this combination, you can use the same wallpaper that is glued to the wall.
  • In the mansions with the height of the premises, the opposite situation: the ceilings there are much higher than in the apartments of multi-storey buildings. Therefore, drawings with large ornaments look very advantageous on the ceiling. But this is provided that the room has good natural light, that is, large windows.
  • If the room has a high ceiling, you can choose a wallpaper for it with a fuzzy, as if blurry, pattern of a dark shade. For the bedroom, this is generally ideal.

Below the junction with the wall

By the way, in order to make the ceiling seem lower, such a technique is used: not only the area of \u200b\u200bthe ceiling is glued with ceiling wallpaper, but it also captures part of the walls. In this case, the cornices are mounted not at the joints of the walls and ceiling, but at the joints of the wallpaper, as shown in the example above.

What wallpaper can be glued to the ceiling

Sticker

By and large, any wallpaper can be glued to the ceiling - as long as the color and pattern fit the interior. Nevertheless, the options mentioned below have become the most popular.

Ceiling wallpaper

We already mentioned at the beginning of this article that paper ceiling wallpapers are made only in Russia. They have a corrugated white surface and are sold in ten meter rolls with a width of 53 cm.

This option is suitable for those who want to have a pure white ceiling, since it is impossible to paint such wallpapers. But they have about two hundred different textures.

Imported wallpaper for painting

The main producer of such wallpapers is Germany. They can be not only white, but light tones. The dimensions of the roll also do not have clear standards - it all depends on the particular manufacturer.

Non-woven

This material is made from cellulose fibers pressed together. It is particularly durable and water resistant. And since it does not absorb moisture, it is not necessary to smear the wallpaper before gluing it with adhesive. It is enough to apply glue on the surface being trimmed.

Non-woven

Flizelin has only one drawback - the high cost, they are five to six times more expensive than domestic ceiling wallpaper. But in proportion to the price, their service life also increases (up to fifteen years). And, of course, the variety of colors and textures here is simply amazing.

The layout principle of two types

Fiberglass

These wallpapers are the most durable: do not tear them, do not wet them, they are not afraid of temperature changes and are not subject to aging.

One of the invoices

  • Fiberglass wallpaper can be painted seven to eight times. But they are used, nevertheless, quite rarely for decoration of living quarters - more often in medical and child care facilities.
  • Glass cloth wallpaper is not cheap, and glue for them is also expensive. Moreover, the glue consumption in this case is an order of magnitude higher than when working with non-woven.
  • Due to poor absorption, they cannot be painted evenly the first time. Therefore, this option cannot be called economical.

Finish option

But if you can quite afford it - believe me, repair will not disappoint you. The durability of the coating will cover the costs of the purchase and gluing of the material.

Silk screen printing

The term “silkscreen” refers to a type of paper-based vinyl wallpaper. Their top layer imitates the structure of silk, always has juicy bright colors that do not fade in the sun.

This variety has a good coefficient of wear resistance, and belongs to the category of washable wallpaper. Just like non-woven, vinyl wallpapers do not need additional impregnation with glue.

Using only one color of silk wallpaper, you can create a magnificent interior in the room. Especially suitable for this are rooms with irregular geometry such as an attic.

In conclusion, it is worth saying that no matter what your home is in terms of area, ceiling height and the presence of structural elements, with a competent approach to its decoration, decorating the ceiling with wallpaper will help to create an individual unusual design that no one has. You can even beat the existing flaws of the premises so that they become their virtues. We really hope that we have helped you in this matter, and you will soon please your household with a new interior.

In drawing up a beautiful and harmonious interior, it is necessary to pay sufficient attention to absolutely all the details. This applies not only to furniture and decoration, but also to decoration. Today in stores you can meet a wide variety of different finishing materials, from classic to very original and high-tech. Many consumers in our time for the design of the ceiling turn to different types of wallpaper.

Views

The times when the wallpaper was thin and made only of paper are long gone. Modern manufacturers produce more reliable fabrics, which not only last a very long time, but also look luxurious. Let us consider in more detail what varieties of wallpaper today exist on the market.

Paper

Paper wallpapers are some of the most famous. They contain pure cellulose, which indicates their environmental friendliness and safety. To decorate the ceiling, you can pick up absolutely any wallpaper made of paper. The range of these finishing materials is so great that you can purchase suitable options for the interior of any style. However, such wallpapers have their drawbacks.

First of all, it is worth noting that paper sheets do not differ in high durability. They are very easy to tear. Also, they can not be washed. After contact with water, such finishing materials can permanently lose their attractive appearance. Special paper wallpapers for painting can last a little longer.

Non-woven

The second most popular today are non-woven fabrics. In fact, these are the same paper options, but they differ in a more dense and reliable basis, in which there are special woven fibers. Thanks to this structure, these wallpapers are dense, durable and wear-resistant.

It is worth noting that non-woven fabrics perfectly pass air. That is why mold or fungus never appears on these "breathing" materials. Non-woven wallpaper is often chosen to decorate the ceiling in the home, as they last a long time and look attractive.

Vinyl

Such varieties of wallpaper are distinguished by the fact that they have a special coating of foamed vinyl. It is applied on a paper base or non-woven base. Of course, the latter are considered more durable. Many consumers opt for vinyl wallpaper, as they can be washed. Due to this quality, such canvases can be glued in almost any room, whether it is an entrance hall, living room, kitchen or bedroom. In addition, it is worth noting the fact that such materials are dense, so with their help it will be possible to hide some defectson the ceiling surface (for example, cracks or small irregularities).

Vinyl wallpapers boast longevity. They look neat and aesthetically pleasing, and for a long time retain a beautiful appearance without fading or deforming.

Acrylic

Suitable for decorating the ceiling and modern acrylic wallpaper. In many ways, they are similar to vinyl versions, but they have a special acrylic coating, which plays the role of the top layer. As a rule, these canvases are quite thin. They pass air well, protecting the base from mold and mildew.dangerous to human health.

Fiberglass

These varieties of wallpaper appeared on the market of finishing materials relatively recently. They are designed for painting, so using them, you can change the color scheme of the interior at your discretion. The main advantage of fiberglass cloths is that they serve for a very long time and are characterized by increased strength. Such characteristics are very important when it comes to decorating the ceiling in a room, since frequent plywood of such an area will take a lot of time and effort.

As for the shortcomings of fiberglass wallpaper, it is worth paying attention only to the fact that they can not boast of a large assortment of colors. As a rule, in shops there are simple plain colors of calm and neutral colors, so picking up truly unique options will not be so easy.

Fabric

Textile fabrics have a rich appearance and serve more than one year. However, they are not worth gluing in all rooms. The main disadvantage that such materials possess is that they very easily get dirty and quickly absorb foreign odors. It is because of this that they should not be used in the decoration of the ceiling in the kitchen, loggia / balcony or hallway. In such conditions, woven fabrics will quickly lose their visual appeal and will have to be re-glued.

Metal

These finishing materials also appeared on the market quite recently, however, during the short time of their existence, they managed to win the love of consumers thanks to the beautiful design. First of all, it is worth noting the interesting and eye-catching glare that appears on the surface of these wallpapers when they hit the solar improvement. On the ceiling, these finishing materials look especially attractive.

With their help you can visually expand the space and make it brighter.The decorative layer of such paintings consists of the thinnest aluminum foil. This component makes the metal wallpaper as durable and durable as possible. Damaging them is not so easy, especially if they are located on the ceiling.

Such wallpapers are not afraid of direct sunlight. In such conditions, they do not lose their brightness, luster and shape. They can be washed without difficulty, since metal coatings are not at all afraid of dampness and moisture. In addition, this finish has excellent soundproofing characteristics.

Liquid

The most interesting and unusual are rightfully recognized as modern liquid wallpapers. They combine all the best features of standard roll options. Externally, liquid paintings are difficult to distinguish from ordinary plaster. However, their composition is very different from traditional finishing materials. In the manufacture of these products sand is not used, and the main component is cellulose. These wallpapers will have an attractive appearance with the help of special decorative fibers, sparkles and safe natural dyes.

For drawing on a ceiling or walls, liquid wallpaper must be diluted with water. The main advantages of liquid paintings is that they do not have joints, form a beautiful and slightly embossed texture of surfaces, mask unevenness and defects of the base and last at least 6 years.

Photowall-paper

Such canvases were popular in the distant past. However, modern photo wallpapers are distinguished by a more “natural” and high-quality image, capable of fundamentally changing the style and orientation of the interior. To decorate the ceiling, it is recommended to refer to murals depicting a blue sky with air clouds, a night sky with shining stars and other similar coatings.

Advantages and disadvantages

Currently, many owners turn to the design of the ceiling with beautiful wallpaper. This popularity is due to a number of advantages regarding such an attractive finish:

  • such a ceiling design in the room can not be called expensive. You can transform the situation without spending sky-high sums;
  • it is worth noting the chic assortment of modern wallpaper. This suggests that you can choose the perfect options for absolutely any ensemble, whether it be strict classics or artsy Baroque;
  • various paintings on the ceiling look great in a common combination, which allows users to create a truly unique and beautiful ensemble;
  • for applying wallpaper on the ceiling surface, you do not need to purchase expensive specialized equipment;

  • it is also not necessary to have professional skills in such work, so you can completely paste the ceiling yourself without resorting to professionals and without spending extra money;
  • the ceiling base does not have to be long and diligently prepared for wallpapering. Moreover, some finishing materials can hide many defects in the base;
  • with the help of well-chosen paintings, you can visually raise the ceiling and even expand the room. To do this, it is recommended to choose lighter options, devoid of a large number of small prints and drawings.

Despite such an impressive list of advantages, the ceiling wallpaper has its drawbacks. These include:

  • short service life. Of course, this parameter largely depends on the materials from which the canvas is made. Coatings from domestic firms, as a rule, need to be changed every 3-5 years (depending on the conditions in which they are located). Imported products are more durable and reliable. The lion's share of foreign companies offers customers a choice of high-quality dense paint. After some time, they can simply be repainted, updating and refreshing the interior;
  • laborious work. Paste wallpaper on the ceiling is much more difficult than on the wall. It is not easy to cope with such tasks alone. It is better to ask someone for help;
  • do not wallpaper the ceiling in a room with high humidity. Despite the fact that today many varieties of finishing materials are not afraid of water, nevertheless, under conditions of constant dampness and moisture, they can come off the base and lose their attractiveness.

Actual decor

Carrying out the repair of the dwelling, each owner wants to bring to it everything only the most stylish and attractive. To do this, you need to pay attention not only to the quality and shade of the ceiling wallpaper, but also their decorative components. One of the most original and memorable are photo wallpapers. As a decor, they may contain images of cosmic and natural landscapes, as well as marine compositions. Such instances are often glued in the bedroom or living room.

Attractive but unobtrusive textured wallpaper looks in many interiors. More often they have neutral and calm colors. In addition, they perfectly hide the small roughnesses of the grounds, which makes them so popular. Also, the ceiling in the room can be pasted with sequined canvases. However, these elements should not be too many so as not to form an overly motley ensemble.

The trend of recent years are paintings that imitate wood, stone or brick. These products look organically not only in modern, but also in historical, brutal and even elaborate interiors. Original in the interior will look and "Crumpled" wallpaper.On such coatings there are not too large folds, as if they were crushed in the hands before pasting.

If you want to bring an interesting zest to the bedroom interior, then you should look for fashionable ceiling wallpapers with phosphor elements that glow in the dark. Today, in the production of such materials only safe materials are used that do not harm the health of households, so you can glue them even in the children's room.

Fashionable luminous individuals come in three forms:

  • silvery. As part of such paintings, there are special silver threads that act as light conductors. Today in stores you can meet options in which such components can be adjusted remotely;
  • fluorescent. A distinctive quality of these luminous wallpapers is their unique pattern. As a rule, it has an interesting three-dimensional format, which makes the images on the canvas "alive";
  • luminomorphic. These wallpapers are ideal for decorating a child’s room. They differ in slightly sloppy patterns.

Today, special wallpapers with a glossy surface are very popular. They can be used both in small and spacious rooms. Thanks to the chic mirror surface, the room may seem more voluminous and thoughtful. You can use glossy coatings in almost any interior, whether it is a bedroom or a living room.

These canvases are:

  • monophonic;
  • with an image.

Colors

Today in stores you can meet a lot of ceiling wallpaper in a variety of colors. Consider which color options today are one of the most popular:

  • wallpaper painted in universal and classic white. They can be glued both in a bright or dark, as well as in a snow-white room with rich decorative elements to dilute excessive whiteness;
  • green canvases. This soothing color can be selected for the interior in classic or more vibrant colors. For example, it can be an ensemble of pale yellow, beige, blue or sand;
  • dark wallpapers are not recommended to be glued to the ceiling in a room with the same dark walls. Dark gray, dark blue or black canvases should be selected for brighter rooms. The created contrast will look very stylish and modern;
  • in modern interiors, mirror or metal coatings will look spectacularly and organically.

On the surface of beautiful and high-quality ceiling wallpaper The following drawings and prints may be present:

  • starry sky;
  • compositions with an angel (or several angels) and clouds;
  • imitation tiles;
  • space compositions with stars and planets;
  • ornate and elegant patterns of contrasting tones;
  • images of cartoon characters, planes and cars (for children's rooms);
  • floral motifs.

How to choose?

The selection of wallpaper for the decoration of the ceiling should be treated as seriously as the choice of wall materials. In search of suitable paintings, it is worth sticking to some simple advice from designers, so as not to be mistaken with the choice:

  • give preference to denser and more reliable products. Such a finish will last much longer and retain an attractive appearance for a long time;
  • if there are bumps or other similar defects on the ceiling, then it is better to glue embossed fabrics on it, which easily hide many of the base defects;
  • do not forget about color combinations. For example, if the room has a light floor and dark walls, then the ceiling can be pasted over with options for neutral or light colors. Of course, much in this case also depends on the colors of the furniture;
  • for rooms with low ceilings, it is not recommended to buy too dark canvases. Visually, they can create the illusion of a small room with a low and "oppressive" ceiling.

Being in such an atmosphere will not be very comfortable;

  • if you prefer bright and saturated canvases, then it is better to glue them in the hall and living room of the appropriate style. In the bedroom (both adult and children's), designers recommend gluing wallpapers of neutral, pastel and calm colors. They will not cause irritation and interfere with rapid falling asleep;
  • experts do not recommend buying too dense and heavy wallpaper for the decoration of the ceiling (everything should be in moderation). Such canvases are more durable, but over time they can come off the base under their own weight;
  • do not buy wallpaper for the ceiling, if the room has a high level of humidity. In such conditions, no canvas will last too long;
  • ask for the purchase of ceiling wallpaper only to well-known manufacturers with a good reputation. Otherwise, there is a big risk of running into low-quality paintings that can move away from the base in a short time and spoil the entire image of the interior.

Beautiful examples and options

The ceiling, pasted over with well-chosen wallpapers, is able to transform the interior and make it truly unique. For example, snow-white canvases with geometric dark brown ornaments will look amazing in a bright room with furniture painted in black and yellow. The ensemble will be contrasting, but not annoying.

Solid white ceiling will look great in the bedroom with gray non-woven fabrics, decorated with silver prints on the walls. In such an interesting environment, it is worthwhile to arrange a double bed with a high soft headboard (with furniture cloves) and slightly sloppy wooden bedside tables of a gray-brown hue.

If you prefer original and bright ideas, you can turn to light ceiling wallpaper with contrasting red prints. Paste them in a room with white walls and the same light seamless floor. In such an environment, red curtains, red-white chairs with dark wooden legs, wrought-iron dark chandeliers and decorative scarlet bows will look wonderful.

Spectacular murals with the image of blue sky and white clouds can be glued in a room with a multi-level rounded ceiling and peach painted walls. Dilute delicate paints with brick or masonry on one of the walls, a glossy seamless floor and a chic hanging chandelier with candle lamps.

Chic light gray wallpaper with a large image of an ash-violet color will look unsurpassed in a bedroom with white walls and a dark brown floor. Put in this room a bed with a high wooden headboard and cabinets attached to it, glass chairs on a metal frame, a coffee table (between the chairs) made of tempered glass and complete the interior with thick curtains in a dull burgundy shade.
