DIY frameless armchair for children. An easy way to make a do-it-yourself beanbag chair at home. Required tools and materials

A bag chair is a comfortable frameless furniture that is suitable not only for adults, but also for children. The product will perfectly decorate the interior of a child's room, bedroom or living room. The armchair is comfortable due to its compactness and light weight. If desired, he can be moved to another room, put into a closet or transported in the trunk of a car. You can do it yourself. Use the workshop to make a DIY beanbag chair.

These frameless chairs have the main advantage - the absence of a rigid frame. In the classic version, they are pear or drop shaped. You can view a photo to select a design. As a base, you can use a ball or a plain fabric in a bright color.

The furniture is presented in a bag with loose and soft filler. He seems to imitate a liquid. The effect is similar to when there is water in the inner case.

The furniture takes the shape of the body of a seated person, evenly taking on its weight. In a couple of minutes you will feel how the muscles and body relax, the load is removed from the lower back. An additional heating effect is provided by the low thermal conductivity of the filler.

Among the main advantages of a bean bag chair are the following:

  • Thanks to the use of free-flowing filler, the level of comfort is increased;
  • Frameless furniture is suitable for children, since it has no sharp corners and is environmentally friendly;
  • Upholstered armchairs are very practical, as they can be easily moved while cleaning the floors;
  • The child seat fits perfectly into the interior with the right choice of model;
  • To maintain order, just wash the removable cover.

If you are planning indoor renovations or a complete redesign, you shouldn't throw out your chair. It is enough to add filler to it and sew a new cover to make it fit a new interior solution.

In the video: how can you use the chair bag.

Chair manufacturing (MK)

How to sew a beanbag chair with your own hands without mistakes? Understand the design of the product. It includes two elements - outer and inner covers. Balls of styrofoam or polystyrene are poured into the inner cover. As a material, ordinary coarse calico or lining material is used. There should be a small zipper on the filler bag. This will allow you to replace the balls when the previous ones collapse from frequent use.

A zipper and a small handle are attached to the outer cover so that it is convenient to carry the chair around the house. When creating a do-it-yourself beanbag chair in a master class, keep in mind that you need to choose a dense and wear-resistant material. Among them, you can choose a raincoat fabric, a leather substitute, jeans or a curtain fabric.

The following materials are used for work:

  • filler in the amount of 300 l;
  • textiles for the inner cover in the amount of 3 m;
  • two zippers, the length of which is 40 and 100 cm;
  • material for outer cover about 3 m.

Before you make a do-it-yourself beanbag chair, the patterns are transferred onto graph paper. You can do without this if you can make a pattern on the fabric with soap.

Filler

Typically, foam balls or expanded polystyrene granules are used. This is the simplest and most hygienic material. The balls do not absorb sweat, odors and dirt. This is ideal if you plan to use frameless furniture in your dining room, kitchen, showroom or cafe. As for expanded polystyrene, insects do not start in it and it is non-hygroscopic. An ottoman made of this material is easy to sew and is the most affordable.

Are you wondering how to sew a pear chair using natural materials? When choosing an organic filler, furniture can be used in a room with low humidity. In the opposite case, the bags will begin to mold after stitching. The following natural fillers can be used:

  • horsehair;
  • wood shavings;
  • down, feathers or wool;
  • millet, rice or peas;
  • seeds, buckwheat husks or grass.

If you plan to sew a bean bag chair from a sawdust pattern, consider their quality. When filling the pear with your own hands, inspect the shavings. All chips must be removed from it, otherwise there is a chance of getting a splinter or scratches. The easiest way is to use cedar shavings. Its smell is pleasant, but repels insects. Also, this filler has pronounced healing properties.

Important! A do-it-yourself pear chair made of fluff can provoke an allergic reaction. Don't use it for a nursery or plan to tailor it for an allergic person's room.

Stages of work

A suitable model of a frameless chair can be found in numerous photos. Then use the simplest sewing method available. With the materials available, you can get the job done quickly. The following step-by-step instructions apply:

1. Pattern. Before you start creating a frameless chair with your own hands, make a pattern. Find a suitable option, transfer it to the fabric with maximum precision. Do not forget to outline the allowances for the seams. Carry bag chair pattern, saving space. This will use less fabric. At least 1.5 cm will go to the seams so that they do not bloom due to the strong tension of the material. 6 wedges are required for each cover. One hexagon or circle is required for the bottom and top of the product for each cover.

2. Formation of the outer cover. After creating a pattern for a bag chair with your own hands, proceed to stitching. Fold the two wedges together so the front faces are inside. Sew 15 cm from the bottom and top to leave room for the 100 cm zipper. We sweep the zipper and sew it with a typewriter. Another wedge is attached to one side and the seam is ironed. Sew other parts in the same way. After that, the base is sewn with a bottom.

3. Formation of the inner cover. We sew this cover in the same way. But the exception is the zipper, the length of which is 40 cm.Stitch 45 cm from the bottom and top.

4. Stuffing. We pass to the very last stage. If using artificial material, stuff the bag with a respirator mask. Fill the pouch 2/3 full. This makes the chair softer.

So, using this phased plan, you will get the job done quickly. Just buy what you need, make the pattern simpler and sew the parts. The resulting product must correspond to the design of the room in which it is planned to be used.

Furniture is usually sewn from durable and bright materials, which, combined with its non-standard shape, will surely please children. In addition, such furniture does not emit any creaks, because there is nothing to creak in it. The main point in making frameless furniture with your own hands is the choice of the appropriate type of fabric. The inner cover should be sewn from a durable, wear-resistant fabric that will not tear at the seams. When choosing a fabric for an outer cover, you can fantasize a little and pick up denim, soft velor or bright leather fabric, in general, the one that fits perfectly into the interior of your room.

Another important detail is the filler. The best option for filling frameless furniture is polystyrene foam. You can buy this material at a furniture store. If the repairs used Styrofoam, you may have a surplus of it. It needs to be crumbled into balls, the result is a good filling for your pouf or chair. If you prefer natural materials, furniture can be stuffed with buckwheat husks or hay, however, in this case, you will have to change the filler every six months or a year, because plant materials are susceptible to moisture absorption, they are compressed over time.

You also need to pay attention to the seams. They must be strong, furniture parts are best sewn with thick reinforced threads with a strong seam. The seams must be checked in advance for strength, otherwise the chair may suddenly break, and its filler will crumble throughout the room.

Chair-ball pattern.

The most difficult part of making frameless furniture is cutting the fabric. You can start with a simple pouf, you will have to work a little when cutting a teardrop-shaped chair, or a chair in the form of a pyramid and a pear. After the fabric is cut and the inner cover is sewn, you can proceed to filling the product. In this case, precautions should be strictly observed, since polystyrene foam balls, due to their light weight, can get into the respiratory tract. In addition, the bag should not be filled very tightly, it should be 2/3 full so that the chair is soft and can take the shape of the body. The final step is to sew the outer cover and put it on the bag. As a result, you get stunningly comfortable and inexpensive furniture that perfectly matches any interior.

Thus, frameless furniture is rightfully an integral part of almost every interior: they are used in recreation areas of office premises, and the most fashionable and creative people have more than one such piece of furniture in their home. You can do this too, and a master class will help you with this: frameless furniture yourself.

How to make frameless furniture with your own hands: the stages of sewing

In order to make furniture of this type with your own hands, you will need the following materials and tools:

  • oxford cloth;
  • granular polystyrene foam;
  • strong reinforced threads;
  • sewing machine;
  • set of needles for heavy fabrics;
  • tailor's scissors;
  • tractor or spiral zipper;
  • wax chalk;
  • scotch;
  • plastic bottle.

Scheme of a frameless chair.

Work begins with cutting the material according to the selected scheme, adding 1.5 cm seam allowances to the main dimensions on each side. The side elements must be cut out according to a pre-developed paper pattern. This will help you get symmetrical details. The details of the bottom and back must be chipped with the right side inward and sewn to the place where the zipper will be sewn in. You need to leave 30 cm of the seam unstitched. Details need to be swept away with a temporary seam, straighten the allowances, sew a zipper. The temporary ones after that need to be deleted.

The back part and the front part must be chipped face-in and sewn together. After that, they are swept away with elements of the bottom and back. All seams can be processed with an overlock or a seam imitating it, which is available on all modern machines. Another way to strengthen the seams is this: the seam allowance is folded in half, after which a line is superimposed on it.

After that, the front part is marked and sewn. These seams do not require additional reinforcement. The product must be turned out and stitched along the perimeter of the front part, forming a 7 mm high fold. The resulting edging is necessary to strengthen the seams and give the furniture visual rigidity.

Filling the bag with granules

Then they proceed to filling the cover with foam granules. This is done as follows: a 1.5 liter plastic bottle is taken, its neck and bottom are cut off so that a pipe is obtained. If the bottle has a waist, even better. After that, you need to open the bag with the filler, insert the bottle there and tape it to the bag with tape. Make sure that the neck of the bag is completely secured with tape and the balls will only fall through the bottle.

You need to unfasten the zipper on the chair and put the cover on the bottle. After that, the zipper must be closed, fastening the bottles at the waist. Holding this place with your hands, you need to turn over the bag with the filler and fill the cover to about 70% of its volume.

If there is too much filler, the furniture will not conform to the shape of the body and will be uncomfortable.

If there is not enough filler, the fit will be low.

All materials for sewing furniture can be purchased at regular craft stores. The only difficulty may arise with the acquisition of filler. It is usually sold by companies that manufacture frameless furniture or thermal insulation materials. An important criterion is the quality of the filler. It should have granules of the same size - about 5 mm. Filler with large balls does not have the proper fluidity, and you will have to manually distribute it over the chair. If the granules are too small, the chair will be heavy.

For stuffing the chairs, the so-called crushed is sometimes used. This is a recyclable material made from rejected foam boards. This filler does not flow; moreover, it can make an unpleasant squeak when it squirts under the weight of a person. If a strong chemical smell is emitted from the filler, it must be ventilated outdoors for several days, for example, leave the bag of filler on the balcony or put it in a cloth bag.

Frameless furniture. Ideas, patterns

We start with the simplest patterns. First, let's make a pillow. It looks like a triangular pyramid.

Classic proportions of triangles: base - 110 cm each, sides - 80 cm. But you can change the dimensions without changing the proportions to your liking. We cut out, placing the details on the fabric in the same way as in the photo.

Pyramid pillow scheme

Layout of the pyramid on the fabric

We give seam allowances one and a half centimeters on each side. We sew the sides of the pyramid together. We process the sections with an overlock if the fabric is loose. Sewing on the triangle-base of the pyramid - we sew in a zipper. It is better to do this on the entire edge 100cm long. We sew the outer cover in the same way. We stuff a bag with balls into the inner case and release them, fill the case two-thirds. They need a place to move in order to take shape when they sit on the chair. We take out the empty bag, fasten the zipper. We stuff the inner into the outer, fasten it. That's all, done!

The pear chair consists of six wedges, a round bottom (bottom part 1 and 2, two parts each), and an upper hexagonal part. It is sewn in the same way as a pillow. The classic drop chair is also no less interesting. We cut out two side parts.

An example of a pear chair pattern

Drop chair

Classic ottoman pattern

Pattern of ottoman ball.

Chair-ball pattern The pattern for the chair-mat is not needed at all. We sew two rectangles, width 120 cm, height 180 cm, do not forget about zippers. That's the whole cover. Do not forget that you do not need to fill the cover with balls, but only two-thirds.

I have no patterns for a flower chair, I didn't have to sew. But there is a picture that makes it clear how to sew. In fact, the whole flower is sewn from squares.

This is how a flower is sewn

And finally, I will say, if frameless furniture with your own hands has taken root in you - do not throw away the remains of harmful balls. Over time, after about a year of daily use, the balls will crumple and become smaller in volume. Then you will need to fill them up to the required volume. And you just have the right amount in the balance!

Do-it-yourself frameless furniture is: an original book bed, a sofa made of foam modules, a pear-tent chair. Make them yourself.

Frameless furniture: types, materials used

Having made such items with your own hands, you can furnish them for the nursery, bedroom, living room. If you have a summer cottage, then place these things on the veranda to relax here in a cozy atmosphere.

Here are the types of frameless furniture:

  • ottomans of square or cylindrical shape;
  • bean bag chairs;

  • chair-pillows;
  • pyramids that perfectly support the head and back;
  • sofas consisting of several;
  • models in the form of toys, for example, animals, flowers;
  • gift option - heart.
For sewing frameless furniture, textiles are used, if it is a sofa, then thick foam is the filler here. The same is suitable for creating models in the shape of a heart, a pillow chair.

For the rest, small foam balls are used, which fill the inside of a particular piece of furniture by 2/3. The filler is placed in an inner bag, a decorative outer bag is put on top, for which durable fabrics that keep their shape well are used.

For soft frameless furniture, it is better not to take pile material that collects dust and wool.

The following types of material are perfect for the outer cover:

  • jacquard;
  • flock;
  • durable cotton;
  • natural or artificial suede;
  • oxford;
  • leatherette or genuine leather.

Several external covers can be sewn for one product, which can be easily removed using a snake lock. Then in winter you can put a warmer cover on it, and in summer use a light cotton one.

The positive properties of granular foam used as filler are that:
  1. it is very light, so such products are easy to transfer or move;
  2. armchair, ottoman quickly take the form of a seated person;
  3. such balls have high thermal insulation, so products made from them can be used even in winter;
  4. unlike frame models, data cannot be injured (there are no sharp corners), so this furniture is perfect for a child's room.
It's time to start directly with the master classes in order to learn how to make some furnishings.

This product consists of several units. Here's what you need to create it:

  • thick foam rubber;
  • furniture fabric;
  • pVA glue;
  • reinforced threads;
  • scissors;
  • ruler;
  • sewing machine;
  • furniture stapler;
  • tape measure.
The seat consists of two blocks, each created according to the same principle. To do this, cut out 3 identical rectangles of foam rubber, sew these parts together. According to their size, you need to cut out and sew covers, stitch them along the corners.

Here you put the foam filler, on your hands, sew one side with a blind seam. You also need to cut out two sheets of foam for the backrest and 2 for the armrests. For these parts, you also need to sew covers.

We begin to assemble a frameless sofa. Use a furniture stapler to secure the two pillows together. If there is no such tool, then sew them on your hands so that you can fold.

Attach the back to them, you can additionally fix it with PVA glue. Attach the two small sides in the same way.

If you want to make a folding sofa like a chair-bed, then make the upper block of the seat smaller than the lower one, sew on the edge a loop of fabric. You will pull on it to unfold the sofa.

Such a product can be made in one piece by combining the back with the seat. The cover consists of a rectangle that covers the back, seat, back and bottom. Large sidewalls should be cut in the form of the letter L in the mirror image. Each of them is sewn to a given fabric rectangle. Foam rubber is also a filler.

Here's how easy it is to make a frameless sofa with your own hands. Make other pieces of similar furniture, such as the following.

Diy pear chair: pattern and description

Stylish and comfortable product quickly takes the form of a person sitting in it. You can wash the outer cover of this chair periodically to keep the chair clean.

To sew it, you need:

  • fabric for the top and inner cover;
  • paper to make a pattern;
  • filler in the form of foam balls;
  • 2 zippers;
  • related accessories;
  • sewing machine;
  • scotch;
  • plastic bottle.

To make a beanbag chair, a pattern is required, it is very simple.

As you can see, for the fabric base, you will need a piece of cloth measuring 2 meters 50 cm with a width of 1 meter 40 cm. The diagram shows how to arrange the parts to save fabric. Cut out:
  • 6 pear-shaped wedges;
  • 2 parts in the form of a trapezoid with rounded smaller sides;
  • 2 semi-circular bottom elements;
  • hexagonal top;
  • rectangular handle to carry the product.
This cut is done on the base fabric, and the inner cover is made in the same way.

This is how the beanbag chair is made further. With your own hands, you will connect pear-shaped parts, grind them. Then the bottom elements are sewn together, they need to be stitched to the lower sections of the pear-shaped wedges. Create an inner cover in the same way, leave space on the side for the zippers, which then sew in. Place one bag in another.

The inner cover is 2/3 filled with polystyrene balls. To transfer them to your chair, first place a large cropped bottle on top of a bag of this filler. Attach at the bottom with tape. Put a knife through the neck, make an incision, the balls will begin to pour out into the container. Then you need to turn it over and lower them into a pear chair.
You can cut out double front and hind legs, bear ears, sew them onto the finished one-color product. Cut out the round face of the beast from the same fabric, paint the eyes, nose, mouth with indelible paints or sew on the facial features, having previously cut them out of dark fabric. You will have such a charming bean bag chair. It will be comfortable for a child of any age. For a baby, this product is placed horizontally, the baby will sleep in such a comfortable chair.

Frameless book bed

If you like frameless furniture, check out the following piece of furniture. This textile product was invented by the Japanese designer Yusuke Suzuki, but our domestic needlewomen will recreate it if they wish.

To do this, they will need:

  • dark dense fabric;
  • light cotton canvas;
  • synthetic sheet filler;
  • foam rubber;
  • sewing machine.
Crafting workshop:
  1. The dark fabric will become the binding. Cut out two rectangles from it, one for the bottom and one for the top of the cover.
  2. This size, but without seam allowances, you will need foam rubber. First join the top and bottom of the binding with right sides together and sew along the edges. Leave one side unstitched. This is where you put the foam rubber.
  3. If you do not have a sewing machine or it is difficult to create such large details on it, then sit on a clean floor, grind the edges on your hands, taking a needle with strong threads. In the same way, you will make "sheets" for a book-bed, but from white cotton fabric and you need to fill them with padding polyester, holofiber or similar synthetic sheet-shaped material.
  4. Put the created elements on the binding, as you can see, on all sides they are about 10 cm smaller than it. Sew in the center on the hands.

This book bed is an excellent sleeping place for two children. Each of them will lie on one "sheet", it will be a sheet, and will be covered with the second "sheet".

If you want to create a small bed, then sew a soft mattress, and make it out of corrugated cardboard. Decide on the width, this is the width you need to cut a rectangle from this material, wielding a construction or office knife. It should be much longer than the desired length of the bed, since you will fold this blank into an accordion.

When it’s time to put the baby to bed, lay this part on the floor, it will take the desired shape. Place a rectangle of cardboard on top, which will become the base of the bed. All you have to do is put your bedding here and you can rest.

But not only kids, adults, too, will comfortably fit on this product. But for people with a lot of weight, it is better to use not one rectangle, but many small ones, connecting these sections with adhesive tape. When disassembled, they will turn into a convenient shelf for books, newspapers and magazines.
If you liked these creative beds, make another piece of upholstered furniture that resembles a brush.

Make a foundation for her. Such a blank is made of fabric in the form of a bag. Corners are wrapped on the wrong side and sewn up. Leave one edge free for now; insert a rectangle of thick foam through this hole.

Now you have to create a lot of "villi". To do this, cut the bars of the correct shape from the foam rubber. Each of them is lined with fabric according to the principle that was just described.

Here is another soft bed. It is created from separate modules. On the side, large buttons on the legs are sewn onto them, previously covered with the same fabric. To connect the two modules, just put on a rope tied into a ring on them.

Frameless transforming chair

It is unusual, perfect for a couple. There are two seats, interconnected by a dense fabric, folded in half. It is fixed using buttons.

Such a product will quickly turn into a small double tent. It is enough to raise the fabric, fix it in this position again using the buttons.

Children will surely enjoy the following frameless furniture, because they like to build houses from everything that is at hand. Take the idea of \u200b\u200bthe English designer Philippe Malouin into service, such a product can be done with your own hands.

For him you will need:
  • dense fabric;
  • corrugated cardboard;
  • velcro
  • stationery knife;
  • long ruler;
  • pen or pencil;
  • scissors;
  • thick foam rubber.
The base of this transformer chair consists of two pillows. How to make similar ones from thick foam rubber was described at the beginning of the article.
  1. Two soft blocks are sewn together on one side so that they can be bent and put one on the other.
  2. On the upper block you need to sew a handle from the same fabric. When you want to turn a chair into a bed, just pull it towards you.
  3. The back and side are made of several corrugated cardboard rectangles. A cloth cloth 1 meter wide 50, fold in half lengthwise. Sew down along the large edge, and also sew one small side on the side.
  4. Insert the first cardboard rectangle there. Sew this fabric or sew here on your hands to separate this first section.
  5. Now enclose the second rectangle, make a vertical line on the typewriter or on the hands in the same way. If you want a transformer chair so that it turns into a tent, then you need to do not one, but 2 rows of cardboard rectangles.
  6. When it comes time to create a roof for a small house, you will need to raise the second side row, connect the top with Velcro. It is pre-sewn onto blanks of fabric.
You will have such frameless furniture if you want to create it. To make this process even more clear, watch the video description from a specially selected plot. It tells how a pear chair is sewn, but not the usual one, but in the form of a penguin.

How to make a children's frameless sofa chair made of foam rubber, you will learn from the second review.
