DIY frameless armchair. Creation of footbag (chair bag-soccer ball). The choice of material for the cover

Familiar furniture is not always convenient when you want more comfort and coziness. An alternative to traditional furnishings is a bean bag (or bean bag). It is distinguished by its soft and free flowing ... The beanbag chair does not have a frame like other home furniture.

It is a transforming thing that can be found in many modern homes.

Frameless armchairs, as a new trend, have recently entered our daily life and immediately won one of the first places among the most comfortable pieces of furniture. Due to the absence of rigid guiding supports and backrest, the bag easily takes the shape of the body. The spine is practically free of stress when sitting. Relaxing in such a chair is good after a busy day, comfortably sitting with a book or tablet.

During rest in such a chair, the back muscles relax well.

From the point of view of household aesthetics, the beanbag chair, due to its shape, reduces the number of rigid linear structures in the home interior - the atmosphere in the room becomes softer and more harmonious.

The loose padding allows the chair to conform to the shape of your body, no matter what position you are in.

The third point is the ergonomics and light weight of the models. At any time they can be moved to any corner or taken to another room, or even removed altogether (important when washing the floor).

The chair provides thermal insulation, keeping your body warm, which is just as important for back problems.

You can use different materials in the decor of the model, especially if you are sewing the bag yourself. An additional plus of a beanbag chair is a relatively low price.

Compared to traditional pieces of furniture, these models are much cheaper.

The bag is easy to clean or wash completely, you can change the contents to fresh or simply ventilate. Frameless designs are very fond of children.

From a safety standpoint, this is the most suitable furniture option for a short rest for a child.

Benefits of making DIY models

Purchased products are sometimes too expensive, and are fairly simple to manufacture. So someone is looking for ideashow to sew a chair bag yourself.

Materials for work can always be found at home or bought at a reasonable price without overpaying.

Any bag is suitable for sewing., which is easy to machine. Forinner cover you will need a material of higher density that does not allow small filler particles to pass through the weaving.

For an outer cover, a fabric softer in texture, including one with a small nap, is suitable.

Do-it-yourself bag chair can be made more original and stronger than ordered in the store. They choose whatever shapes they like.

Cleaning the room is not difficult, because the light weight of the chair allows even a child to move it.

Sew the bag is quite light, and this is also an advantage of making products with your own hands. Just pick up the base, connect, process the seams ... Any housewife with the skills of handling a sewing machine can handle this.

By choosing the right color of the cover and the type of material, you can support the design of any interior.

Required materials and tools

To sew a do-it-yourself beanbag chair for home , you will need inexpensive blanks and tools.

Materials , which are necessary:

  • Dense - "raincoat fabric", satin, polyester, etc .;
  • Loose (preferably expanded polystyrene, about one and a half kilograms);
  • Strong threads;
  • Paper for making patterns (graph paper or whatman paper);
  • Short zipper.

Materials for making the chair bag.

For outer cover choose a softer fabric (flock, velor, etc.), although some prefer a more practical material, like tapestry.the cloth for a frameless chair can be purchased or used from home supplies.

Purchase the filler in specialized departments of furniture or construction retail chains.

To make straight seams , you will need a tailor's machine - hand or foot. You will need chalk, pins, and scissors to draw, secure, and cut the pattern.

Design and construction: which ones to choose?

Can be done model of various shapes. The most popular are the sphere, the drop and the pear. Another option is rectangular. It is "in tune" with the shape of a traditional frame chair. Its only drawback is that when sitting on it, such a structure will not look too symmetrical and neat.

To sew a chair bag with your own hands, look at samples from publications on specialized sites.

It must be remembered that it will sag and wrinkle under load, so choose a more streamlined shape - so the folds are less noticeable. Tosew your model, you can use any color you like and suitable for the interior.Inner cover dimensions are calculated depending on which age category the chair is intended for.

The parameters of the outer cover will be slightly larger.

Materials for the design, select on the basis of the conceived shape so that the bag looks beautiful when unfolded. All think over the decor in advance.

Manufacturing process: step by step instructions

Sew a beautiful chair bag can be done pretty quickly. If you have already picked up and prepared the tools, then you can proceed directly to the implementation of your idea.

The option below is for a pear-shaped bag.

Pattern.

First you needmake a pattern.

  1. Prepare the templates by which you will measure the required parts, taking into account the overlaps for the seams. Usually are made in the ratio: 6 (wedges): 2 (bottom): 1 (top).
  2. Take designed forinner cover and straighten it. It is better to do this on the floor, since the volumes are large.
  3. Attach the templates and secure them with tailor's pins.
  4. Cut carefully along the outlined lines.

It is recommended to remove excess threads from cuts of cotton fabric before use.

Sweep away and sew one by one. This must be done carefully and slowly.

Use the medium sewing mode on the sewing machine to sew all parts.

Too large will give "holes" through which wakes up... Seams it is necessary to make double, so that the structure is stronger. In the lower part, leave one open segment - through this "neck" pour... Then carefully sew in the zipper.

To make it convenient to pour in the filler, you can use the method shown in the picture.

Internal seams be sure to sweep in order to not disheveled and dispersed.Repeat the same steps for cutting and sewing the outer cover. Insert a small zipper into it. This is necessary in order to remove it for washing.

Attach a zipper to the bottom of the canvases with pins and sew it on a typewriter.

Align the cover completely to the shape of the bag and close the zipper.

If you want to sew chair - "drop", then the details will be needed less. These are 2 sides, 1 bottom and 1 top.For a "sphere" or "ball" shape, you need 12 pentagonal pieces and 20 hexagonal pieces.As you can see, the "drop" is a less labor-consuming type of bean bag chair and the most convenient to sew. However, all forms will require skills in calculating patterns and the ability to sew and process joints.

And most importantly, keep pets away from the litter. Otherwise, it will be very difficult to clean them from the foam balls later.

The final stage is decoration

For inner cover no finishing required - this is the basis. And the outer one can be decorated with decorative elements. Its role can be played by simply a fabric with a pattern - the same tapestry.

By saving a lot of money and gaining useful skills, you will get a comfortable and stylish interior element for your home.

If a monophonic, then you canto do applique in the form of asymmetrically arranged geometric shapes or images. Such additions look quite interesting and unusual. To do this, take a material of excellent color and make patterns according to the cut out patterns.

In modern interiors, frameless chairs are usually used, corresponding to the main color scheme of the room.

If you don't want to be seenseams , then you can hide them with a special cape. It may not completely cover the chair. For this, any soft material with a pile is suitable, even a long one like the skin of a wild animal, artificial astrakhan fur and other options. They make the seat even more comfortable and make the interior cozy and informal. It is only necessary to process the edge of the cape before covering the structure.

This decor is suitable for a bedroom, a nursery, and a living room.

If there are several frameless chairs, then they can be decorated either in the same style or in different ones. In the living room, place them in the appropriate areas - next to the coffee table, sofa, in front of the TV.

Having made repairs, just order or sew a new cover, and the chair will not disturb the design harmony of the room.

Well, so the price for such a device pleased me too much (the simplest model is about 5000r), as well as the fact that the choice did not correspond to what I wanted .. I decided to do it myself;) After digging around, again I found an approximate pattern on the network .. I do not pretend to be authorship .. And I did a little wrong.

Materials:
1m black dermantine-180r
2m white dermantine-280r * 2 \u003d 560
3m chintz - nothing (old sheets)
Threads - I don't remember, they were lying around for a long time  we take a 12p coil
Zipper 2 pcs. 50 cm-25rub 1pc., The second is nothing (old)
Scotch tape roll-45r
Filler:
2 foam boards 5cm (90 * 2 \u003d 180) and 4 pieces of approximately 5cm (210)

Calculation: 180 + 560 + 180 + 210 + 25 + 45 + 12 ~ 1212r

The material was purchased from a hardware store (dermantin in two colors).
big soccer ball

I apologize for the quality of the photo .. Sonya covered herself literally in a week .., and this apparently was a bell, I was photographing her cell very badly.

Immediately I'm not talking about a tailor;)

Then he proceeded to unite .. if you have never sewed a ball yourself in your life, make a model using paper and a stapler (he did it himself). On the advice of people from the network .. it's very difficult to sew a ball for the first time .. well, not gods burn pots :)

I think it's clear what's what. I reinforce the seam with a staple tape;) So to speak, a high-tech rustic bottling. In the original products, the seam is double. And the threads are of better quality.

The ball I liked had 12 pentagons (black), 20 pentagons (white)
Connected triple blanks in this form

This will be a half of the ball; the second must be collected in a mirror. That's why you have to train on cats .. in the sense of creating a paper model

I break it in a bag of polystyrene, I could not buy it already crushed, for some reason it was not everywhere, summer is time for repairs.

Already finished outer cover before filling. The inner bag for the filler was created parallel to the outer one with identical dimensions (also a ball). It should be borne in mind that if the outer cover slides, then it is advisable to make the inner one retardant. Accordingly, if the outer fluffy, the inner one slides. Do this for your convenience in the same filling with polystyrene.
I filled the inner bag with fragments of polystyrene half and carefully through the hole with a zipper loaded it into the outer case, there I already loaded the second half of the foam. Keep in mind that at home you just don't need to break the foam.

Here's what happened.

Oh yes .. one more nuance .. in the "original" armchairs bags are provided with holes for ventilation (a sharp discharge of excess air in the event of someone falling on it) They are typical for leather and dermantine products, as well as poorly permeable materials air. I did not foresee them and the result was not long in coming (brother arrived;))

Fortunately, I had leftover material and the chair I loved was brought back to life.
But I think it is still necessary to take into account such flaws.
For a year with the deprivation of operation, a sheet of foam plastic 10 cm thick was purchased to replenish the sagging internal filler.

Frameless chairs are used to save space, so the question of how to sew a bag chair with your own hands often arises among residents of modern apartments, because ready-made copies are not cheap. Such interior items are bright, soft and can be a bag chair or ottoman, a giant pear or a ball. Sewing a chair bag with your own hands is not too difficult, there are several ways for this. With even a little skill in sewing, it usually goes faster, but a beginner, with the effort, can cope with this task, having spent, perhaps, a little more time. Even if the work does not look perfect, this fact can be disguised as an author's idea and get a unique handmade bean bag chair.

The bag chair is popular due to the fact that it takes the shape of the body of everyone who sits on it.

DIY bag chair: choice of material

Frameless furniture is subject to the same loads during operation as standard ones, and possibly to a greater extent. Therefore, before you sew a chair bag, you need to choose the right fabric for it. The material should be durable and pleasant to the touch, and everyone chooses the colors from those available to their liking. In order to sew a chair bag yourself, silk, satin, calico or satin will definitely not work, since they are too thin and fragile and are not intended for this kind of operation.

You can use velor for the outer cover, this fabric resembles faux fur, it is soft and fleecy to the touch, velvety and quite durable. Flock is similar to it in its properties, which also has water-repellent properties. This fabric is recommended for use by young children, as it is very easy to wash or clean and does not fade in the sun for a long time.

You can use chenille fabric to sew a bag chair.

If in order to sew a chair bag, you can use fabrics of unnatural origin, then chenille is a good option. This fabric has synthetic fibers in its composition, due to this, the surface does not form pills, is easy to clean and, like any furniture fabric, is strong enough. Jacquard is very similar to chenille, which also has a small percentage of synthetic fibers. Despite the presence of loop pile on the front surface, this coating does not dissolve if you accidentally hook and break one thread. It is recommended to sew a chair from such a fabric, as it is durable and all dirt can be easily washed from its surface.

The bag with your own hands can be sewn using artificial suede or leather. These materials are not budget-friendly, but a bag of them will last a long time. Faux suede has a pile and is very durable, leather can be embossed and is also very durable. Without limitation in means, you can also use tapestry, it is a very strong and dense fabric of natural composition, on which various patterns are woven. This type of material has antistatic properties, therefore it is especially good for sewing a chair filled with expanded polystyrene balls.

You can fill the chair bag with foam balls.

The fabric that will be used for sewing the inner bag can be any fabric. Breathing properties are mandatory characteristics, since air must freely pass through the structure, without interfering with it taking the desired shape. You cannot take fabrics that are slippery and too loose for the inner bag, the lining materials used for sewing clothes will not work. You can take satin, calico or flannel, chintz and cotton are used in 2 additions.

Most often, the fabric sold in rolls has a factory width of 140-150 cm, which is enough to sew a frameless chair without unnecessary seams. A material of a smaller width is not suitable for every model, and it is impractical to choose a larger width, since the remains are unsuitable for further use and go to waste.

How to sew a pear chair with applique

For work you will need:

  • coarse calico, satin;
  • outer cover fabric;
  • 2 zippers;
  • fabric for applique;
  • filler;
  • threads in color;
  • scissors;
  • tape measure;
  • pencil;
  • pins.

The pattern needs to be transferred to the fabric, increasing to the desired size. Most often, the pattern consists of a small bottom part, which will serve as the bottom, and 6 wedges for the chair itself. The parts are cut out, leaving the necessary seam allowances. Before or after stitching, it is imperative to process the inner edges of the seams. If the fabric is thick and bulky, it is more convenient to process it in one layer before the cover is sewn. Artificial leather, suede and flock do not need this operation, as their edge does not crumble.

In order to sew a frameless bag with your own hands, you first need to fold and sew all the wedges one by one, while a small area must be left unstitched, a zipper is inserted into it. Two sewing wedges are folded with the right sides of the fabric inward and pinned with pins so that the fabric does not slide out and the seams are even. All 6 wedges are sewn in this way, not forgetting about the zipper. For a beginner in sewing, it is advisable to start with the inner cover, on which mistakes are not so critical and practically invisible, and then take on the outer one, which must be sewn flawlessly.

The bottom is sewn last. The lower, inner cover, which any chair bag has, is sewn in the same way, but it is usually easier to work with it, since its fabric is thin and easier to process. A zipper is sewn into one of the wedges to put the filler into the inner case and remove the outer one for washing or cleaning.

The zipper should be sewn into both cases with special care, making sure that the slider is firmly fixed. A zipper that comes open will make it difficult to pick up the filler and place it back in the case. The zipper on the inner cover is necessary, since the filler cakes after a while, it is necessary to fill it up so that the chair does not lose its shape. The inner cover for 2/3 of the volume is filled with a special filler, then the zipper is closed and the outer cover is put on it.

How to sew a rectangular frameless bag with your own hands

To make such a piece of furniture, you will need the following materials:

  • fabric for the inner cover;
  • fabric for the outer cover;
  • threads to match;
  • 2 zippers;
  • filler;
  • needles;
  • tailor's pins;
  • scissors;
  • pencil;
  • tape measure;
  • square.

Patterns can be drawn on paper and transferred onto fabric, or drawn directly onto fabric. They are cut out, leaving the required seam allowances.

First of all, in order to sew a chair, you need to connect the bottom and back, not forgetting to insert a zipper into the seam. After that, the side parts and back are sewn together. The front side is sewn to the sides last, the seams are processed using an overlock or zigzag seam on a typewriter. After that, the chair bag is turned inside out.

In order to sew a rectangular armchair and ensure that this shape is maintained during operation, you need to process the seams with edging or make an additional line along their contour, attaching the seams to the inner contour at a distance of 0.7 cm.Then, the filler is poured into the inner cover, zips up and put on outer cover.

In this article, I will talk about creating an original bean bag chair. How to sew it yourself, what material to choose. I will describe the properties of fillers, which are beneficial to use, and which are better not to use. I will describe the sewing process and explain the features of this furniture.

How to make your own bean bag chair

A beanbag chair, an air pouf, a bean bag or a pear - frameless, comfortable, comfortable furniture. There is a resilient filler inside the fabric bag. Due to its simple design, it is possible to sew it on your own, even without having the basic skills of a seamstress.

Frameless furniture is made in 3 types - in the form of a drop, a ball and a pear. For each option, drawings, materials, tools and filler are used. It is necessary to decide on the choice of the shape of the furniture, draw up the drawings, prepare the material. Then join the cut out pieces of material and fill.

Material selection

The color of the material, its footage depends on the choice of the master and the drawings.

You will need 2 types of material - for the outer and hidden cover. A hidden bag is sewn from:

  • polyester;
  • satin, raincoat;
  • mattress fabric;
  • tisi.

These fabrics are not expensive and highly durable. The outer cover is sewn from tapestry, artificial leather, chenille. The fabrics are pleasant to the touch and do not get dirty quickly.

The selected material must breathe. There should be a possibility to remove the cover and replace the filling. The zipper is sewn into both bags.

Filler

Natural filler can cause allergies.

Expanded polystyrene is a high-quality filler for frameless furniture. But the mixture of silicone balls with expanded polystyrene is distinguished by its durability. Make this mixture yourself. If expanded polystyrene is bought for a low price in large volumes, then silicone is ordered on the forums, and delivery takes 2-3 weeks.

The filling of polypropylene and holofiber is also used for the pear chair. Polypropylene restores its original state, holofiber is mixed with polypropylene to improve softness. The mixture of fillers has water-repellent and antibacterial properties.

In addition to synthetic filling, rice or beans are poured into the bottom, which absorb moisture. Adherents of environmentally friendly products stuff it with bird fluff, a mixture of sawdust, horsehair. However, bird fluff can become damp and clump, wood shavings seep through the fabric and cause discomfort.

Required tools

You will need a standard seamstress kit:

  • scissors, centimeter, zipper;
  • graph paper, needles;
  • reinforced or silk threads;
  • sewing machine, overlock;
  • crayon, pins, pencils, thimble.

Overlocks are bought or made to order in the atelier. The thimble will protect your fingers from needle pricks.

Creating a pattern

The standard dimensions of the outer bag are diameter 90 cm, length 250 cm.

The parameters of the bag are drawn on graph paper. The bag for the filler is sewn 2-3 cm less. The diameter of the circle is 70-72 cm. The lower circle is drawn in a quarter of the size, then the fabric is folded when cutting. The upper circle is made less than 20-25 cm. The part is drawn entirely, and a couple of cm allowance is left for the zipper. The allowance is left 1-2 cm for the side wedges.

Details are drawn from the inside of the fabric, placed compactly.

Sewing process

The pattern from graph paper is transferred to paper, cut out. Next, circle with chalk on the inside of the fabric. First, they draw the size of the pattern, then mark the centimeters for the allowance. Parts are cut out with an allowance. It turns out 6 side parts for the inner and outer bag, 2 parts for the bottom and, 2 parts for the outer circle.

The cut out parts are fastened with pins, sewn with bait, overlocked. Details of the lower and upper circle will be baited separately, leaving room for lightning. Sometimes zippers are placed on the side of the bag. The entire structure is hemmed, sewn on a typewriter. Then zippers are sewn in. The locks are sewn with a double seam for strength.

The inner is placed in the outer, and only then is it clogged with filler. It is not recommended to hammer the product to failure, the chair does not accept the rider's silhouette poorly.

Put several bags of silica gel inside to collect the smell of the filler.

Features of the bag chair

Frameless furniture has strength and is designed for the maximum human weight - 100-150 kg. Depending on the model, the chair bag is sewn in a single layer.

The dimensions of furniture when sewing yourself can be adjusted independently. In addition, making a chair yourself is more profitable than buying it on the Internet. The pouf is used as a gift.

It is enough to simply sew such a piece of furniture with your own hands. It is necessary to purchase material, filling, sewing tools. For a long service life, choose a synthetic filler. The finished product is placed in the living room, nursery, in a personal office or library.

The cover is sewn under the interior of the room, then there will be no question of determining the location of frameless furniture in the house.

A bag chair is an easy-to-manufacture and stylish frameless furniture. Make it possible on your own. To do this, you will need a little patience, the necessary materials and the desire to understand all the intricacies of the process. Manufacturing techniques, useful recommendations for choosing fabric and filler, common patterns - read about all this in the presented review.

Types of frameless furniture

There are a lot of options for frameless chairs and sofas. The most common are pear, banana and ball. There are also specimens in the form of watermelon, cube and tablet.

Full-fledged sofas are more technologically advanced in manufacturing. In the interior, they look impressive and can be either integral or consist of separate blocks. A common form of these sofas is straight. But there are also corner models.

Having decided to make such an original upholstered furniture, you can dream up and come up with your own version. But first, you should consider the well-known models and patterns for them, and then, by analogy, recreate your design.

Upholstery fabric

What kind of fabric do you need for making? For the top cover - any furniture fabric:

  • Furniture velor.
  • Shenill
  • Jacquard.
  • Leatherette.
  • Faux fur,
  • Nylon.
  • Velveteen.
  • Flock.

For an inner cover, choose a denser material:

  • Blended fabric.
  • Calico.
  • Cloak fabric.
  • Satin.

In addition to the fabric, you will need zippers of appropriate sizes, lavsan threads, Velcro to connect the upper and lower covers.

Bean Bag Filler

The most common filler for frameless furniture is polystyrene balls. This material is environmentally friendly, durable and moisture resistant.

Chairs filled with polystyrene balls can be used in damp areas such as a bathhouse, pool or terrace. And this is possible due to the low hygroscopicity of the filler.

Granules shrink over time. Re-fill every few years to maintain the desired shape of the product.

Styrofoam balls are extremely volatile and easily electrified. If inhaled, they can cause serious damage to health. It is recommended to use a respirator when working with it.

Bean bag chair patterns

Consider three common cuts:

will consist of six identical wedges (marked with 1) with a height of 1200 mm and a size at the base of 450 mm. The top pattern is a hexagon (marked on the diagram by the number 2) 182 mm high and 210 mm wide). The bottom consists of four parts: two parts each, marked with numbers 3 and 4.
Roof chair:

1) The main part combines the front, back and side.

2) Top part.

For sewing ball chairs you need 20 hexagons and 12 pentagons.

How to sew a beanbag chair

As you can see from the patterns discussed above, making a beanbag chair on your own with minimal sewing skills is not a very difficult task.

To make a pear chair, you need three parts:

  • Main part.
  • Top part.

The details of the upper and lower covers are made according to the patterns. In the inner case from the side ( b) a short zipper is sewn in. A long zipper is sewn into the outer case from the long side ( and). The covers are fixed to each other with Velcro.

After both covers are ready, the inside through the funnel is filled with polystyrene foam. The funnel is made of thick paper, and its narrow edge is pushed into the inner capsule bag. The process ends with falling asleep the required number of balls. During the filling process, part of the granules may wake up on the floor, so after work thoroughly vacuum the room.

To sew a bag chair according to the given pattern, you will need:

  • Fabric for an external cover of 2500 x 1400 mm in size (the same amount of fabric is needed for an internal cover).
  • Two zippers - 1 m and 40 cm.
  • Filler.
  • Velcro 10 x 5 cm.
  • Strong reinforced threads.

You need to start work by making a paper pattern for a pattern. Then the pattern is placed on the fabric, and the necessary fragments are cut off.

The workpiece is completed. Now you need to fold the two wedges with the right side inward and sew with leaving an allowance of 1 - 1.5 cm. The rest of the wedges are sewn in the same way and the zipper is installed. On the front side, a stitching is done, capturing the allowances. Then the bottom and top of the bag are sewn on. All of the above manipulations must be carried out with the inner cover. Having assembled two covers, the bag is filled with polystyrene balls using a funnel.

The history of frameless furniture

In 1968, three young architects from Turin: Piero Gatti, Cesare Paolini, Franco Teodoro approached the management of the Zanotta furniture factory with an innovative idea for the production of a frameless bean bag chair. The foresight of the factory director allowed this product to go into mass production and gain wide fame throughout the world.

Being representatives of the “anti-design”, the creators of frameless furniture were critical of the development of modern technologies and consumer mood. They affirmed the theory of “flight”, and through provocative actions they wanted to show that the logical development of rationalism leads to absurdity. The bean bag chair ("Sacco") has become a classic example of "anti-design".

The bag chair is impeccable. It is very pleasant to sit on it, since the filler easily takes a form convenient for the seated person. Having decided to buy or manufacture such frameless furniture, you will get the best resting place and an original element of interior design.
