Wooden bread box with your own hands. Wooden bread box. How to make it yourself do-it-yourself breadbasket with a cutting board

A self-made bread box will adorn the table in your kitchen. The kitchen is rightfully considered the heart of the house.

How to make a wooden bread box with your own hands. MK №1

Usually, bread is stored either in a plastic bag or in a refrigerator. But the best place for him, of course, is a wooden bread box. There is more or less constant humidity and such a bread box breathes, so that the bread does not mold and stale for a long time. Wooden bread box is not so difficult to do with your own hands.
  Here is her drawing:

From materials we need a board 10-12 mm thick better from birch, oak, ash or linden. Pine is not good, because it will saturate the bread with a tarry smell. You will also need wooden slats for a flexible cover, a handle and fasteners.
  From the board we cut out two sidewalls, the bottom and the upper bar (see. Figure).

Inside, in the sides, you need to make a semicircular groove for a flexible cover. It is better to choose a router. You can use a finger mill on a drill. The grooves go in a semicircle. The lid slides over them and lowers into the back of the bread box. The grooves must be done so that the lid does not get stuck in them, but glides easily and freely.
  The lid itself is made of thin wooden battens. Reiki can be glued to the fabric base or inserted into the cord. In each rail, 3 holes are drilled at an equal distance and a fishing line is pushed through them as shown in the diagram. In general, they are attached with fishing line.

If the family is large, you can make a two-tier bread box according to the same principle:

  The bread box can be coated on the outside with varnish or linseed oil, and inside it is better left uncoated. However, a wooden bread box can be decorated with burning, decoupage or painting, as you like.

Wooden bread box. MK №2

It is best to store bread in a wooden breadbox. I developed my form and I think it is very successful. Even a novice in this business can make such a product from wood. A beautiful wooden bread box made with soul and love will decorate any kitchen.

I had to make from different species of wood, but from pine and birch most often. This bread box is made of pine. First of all, I made a template on the side walls and calculated on it all the dimensions of the remaining parts.

Part Dimensions

Cover 373 x 220 x 15 mm - 1 pc.
   top 375 x 120 x 15 mm - 1 pc.
back 375 x 185 x 15 mm - 1 pc.
   bottom 375 x 230 x 15 mm - 1 pc.
   side 255 x 205 x 15 mm - 2 pcs.

You need to choose clean areas on the board. The largest width of the board is 230 mm. When choosing a material, you should immediately look at where which part will fit. You can make such a breadbox out of plywood, but I always made it from wood.

Having chosen the boards, you need to start with the planing of one side and the edge. Then on the thicknesser we drive to the desired size for a thickness of 15 mm. On the saw, we skip all the details in width and then we cut the final size. According to the template, I draw two identical sidewalls and also saw it on a saw. Before assembling with fine sandpaper, go through all the edges and knock down the roughness.

Assembling the bread box

When assembling, the most important thing is to make accurate markup. I always take an awl and a metal ruler. I make punctures on the sidewalls and at the ends of the parts. In the lower and rear parts are three connections, in the upper two and the lid opens on one on each side. So in each side wall you need to make nine punctures. After marking, drill a 5 mm drill to a depth of 10 mm, in each part. Connectors made metal. I sawed 18 pieces of 19 mm each from 5 mm nails with a hacksaw.

Of course it can be made of wood, but the lid should be made of metal. Connecting blanks must be rounded on an emery. Glued a wooden bread box on epoxy. First of all, you need to insert the connections into the cover, it will hold tight to them, it will be easy to open and close.

Having glue the drilled holes with glue, we gently drive the hammer with a light tapping from the beginning of the connection into the part. Putting the side part and glue the holes in it, insert the upper, back and lower parts. Apply glue to the holes of the second side part and press from the top. No glue is applied to the holes where the lid is inserted. Look until the glue has dried, as the lid opens and closes. If all is well, then you can carefully put it on one side and put the load on top. Any thread can be applied to the finished glued product.

The wooden bread box is well suited for carving. I used geometric carvings on this wooden bread box. It was made a very long time and the carving on it is the simplest. Before cutting, it is necessary to apply a drawing. Everything is done as in the drawing, circles of squares. I always draw in different ways, which I liked and drew. When carving, you need only one cutter. After I cut it out, covered the product with a stain. Let the stain dry well. Wood products must be varnished twice. After the first coating, with fine emery paper, remove the raised pile and only after that apply the second layer. The varnish used is waterproof and a bread box made of wood can be wiped with a damp cloth. I made this wooden bread box over twenty-five years ago.

Wooden bread box + bamboo napkin. MK №3

Any housewife in the kitchen has a place where buns for tea and bread for dinner are stored. Someone wraps bread in a plastic bag, someone neatly puts it in a plastic breadbox bought in a store.

I made a bread box with my own hands from 10 mm thick wooden planks and a small bamboo napkin, which you can easily buy at a nearby supermarket.

The dimensions of the blanks I drew in the figure below. Basically, they are determined by the size of the bamboo cloth. I did not give a radius of rounding, because he himself performed it according to a ready-made pattern in advance. The pattern can be drawn on thick cardboard with a pencil, and then cut the side walls of the bread box using a jigsaw. If necessary, sawn parts are carefully treated with fine sandpaper.
  a href \u003d "http: //img0..jpg" rel \u003d "li-bigpic" target \u003d "_ blank"\u003e

We glue the side walls to the bottom with glue “Joiner's moment” and strengthen with screws or small cloves. To get the legs, the bottom can be glued to the sidewalls, retreating from the edge by five millimeters.

In the same way we glue and nail the back. Its height is less than the sides. So it will be more beautiful to lay a bamboo napkin.

After the glue dried, I got such a blank.

Napkins made of bamboo come in different colors. You can choose one that is well suited to the interior of your kitchen.

Before attaching a napkin to the breadbox, you must try on so that it lies neatly.

I covered the wooden details of the bread box with varnish. When the varnish dried, he laid a napkin on top and attached it to the back and side walls with decorative furniture cloves. The front part of the napkin hangs freely, not fixed by anything.

Here is such a beautiful bread box I got.

An ideal place to store fresh bread is a wooden product that prevents the spoilage of the product, preserves its original properties and taste. The popular name of a favorite kitchen accessory is a bread box. A unique wooden bread box made with improvised materials will be an excellent gift and will decorate any home.

This article contains general recommendations, diagrams and drawings for independent work, gives tips and ideas for decorating finished products. If you follow these patterns, you can get attractive and practical models for home use.

Features of wooden models

Natural wood is well ventilated and has an attractive appearance. Particularly conceptual will be the bread bins, which are designed and decorated in the style of "country", ethno-version or the style of "Provence".

The best choice of raw materials are ash leaves, linden and birch wooden boards. These tree species do not have a distinct and intrusive smell (such as spruce and pine). They do not interrupt the taste of bread and comply with all environmental requirements.

An ideal bread box will come from juniper or birch bark, but not every craftsman can find a suitable leaf of a tree. You can try to find similar material in the shops of folk art.

In addition to the advantages, it is worth remembering the disadvantages of a wooden container for storing bakery products:

  • a wood product requires a special approach, it must be carefully monitored so that mold and rot do not appear on the surface;
  • a wooden bread box cannot be cleaned with standard household cleaning products, nor can it be washed in a dishwasher;
  • temperature differences in the room are detrimental to wooden products;
  • you need to understand in advance that a wooden bread box has a certain period of operation, it must be changed periodically, since the base of wood actively absorbs odors, which are very difficult to remove, the optimal mode of care is regular ventilation.

Varieties of wooden bread bins

Strictly speaking, wooden products can be attributed to those that are listed in groups:

  • bread biscuits from birch bark;
  • plywood bread bins;
  • bamboo bread bins;
  • bread bins made from wooden components (e.g. chopsticks).

Any of these materials "breathes" perfectly. The air inside such products naturally circulates and therefore it is easy to combine birch bark, plywood, bamboo in one bread box, complementing it with wooden elements to your liking.

Depending on the format of the door, they are divided:

  • simple bread bins - without canopies and handles;
  • threaded bread bins;
  • wooden bread bins with blinds.

How to choose a bread box

Personal preferences, tastes and style of the kitchen influence the choice of the product, but there are a number of general recommendations that should not be ignored:

  1. The volume and size of the bread box may vary. A standard product holds one or two rolls. Too tightly stored bread is not worth it - it will quickly become stale and deteriorate. The choice corresponds to the number of family members. If 1-2 people live in the house, a small compact product will be enough for them. For a large family, it is advisable to make a bread box into several compartments or a two-tier one.
  2. Also, when developing a work scheme, the type of bread that will be stored inside the product is taken into account. Wheat does not get along well with rye. If you combine them in one wooden box, the wheat will be covered with mold, and may also be saturated with specific additives that are usually found in rye bread recipes - garlic, caraway seeds, or coriander, etc.
  3. When preparing the patterns, care must be taken to ensure that the circuit provides for a tight seal between the cover and the base. This will keep the bread fresh for a long time. The lid of a wooden bread box can move or be removable. One way or another, it should fit tightly and securely close.
  4. The coloring, shape and design of a wooden accessory for the kitchen will tell the style of the kitchen. The classic semicircular model is compact, suitable for more options, but it is not so easy to care for. The tall square model will take up more space in the kitchen, but it can be easily cleaned of dirt.

For a small room, a hinged bread box will be a good choice.

General scheme of work

In brief, the process can be defined as steps / steps:

  • according to the drawing, tightly interconnected elements are prepared (for any sizes);
  • the joints at the joints are treated with glue for better bonding; in the places of reinforcement, these joints are carefully treated with sanding paper;
  • door formation is the final stage of work, and modern models are most often equipped with the so-called curtain of slats;
  • so that the movement of parts relative to each other is easy, a groove is laid inside the housing.

Schematic illustration of bread bins

A simpler cover can be made so that there is no need for additional structural elements. It is folding and does not complicate the scheme of work. Material for this form can also serve as wooden planks. Sometimes they are replaced with a bamboo mat, which is stitched and reinforced with red thread.

When developing a work scheme, it should be taken into account that the model can be either completely wooden or combined, where the main part of the product is made of wood, but there are plastic, metal elements, etc.

Also, the bread box can be built into the kitchen, then its production is carried out on an individual project.

How to prepare for work

The first stage in the manufacture of any handmade product is the preparation of materials and tools that will be required during assembly. They are selected in accordance with the selected scheme. About the materials mentioned above, now you should touch directly on the working equipment.

In the workshop, the process is accelerated, since it is possible to use a circular milling machine. At home, you can do with a hand tool:

  • manual jigsaw;
  • joiner's ruler with a clamping mechanism;
  • manual milling;
  • clamps;
  • a jigsaw machine (in the absence of one, you can replace it with a simple manual model).

Schemes of basic models

The first option is a spacious, two-section model of the bread box. It is intended for a family of four or more. Front covers not only perform the function of isolating the product from the environment, but are also suitable for cutting bread. To use them, you need to lift them and remove them from special slots. The upper part of the bread box is good for storing various jars, where you can pour salt and spices.

The illustration shows a diagram of the cut of parts, as well as various angles of the product in finished form, the corresponding dimensions are given. Assembling parts of the bread box is carried out in a standard way (joining and additional gluing of elements), except for the special position of the lids.

The specified model can hang on the wall or stand on the wall - it is universal. In order to make the model wall mounted, a special hole is made in the back wall.

The top of the bread box is missing from the drawing. The master can apply various schemes at his discretion, use a different decor and even abandon the upper part, making the model more concise and compact.

Material for a bread box - a board measuring ten to twelve mm. (width of raw materials). Details should be densely located nearby - a joint in a joint. To ensure a tight fit, use screws, nails. Another option is a spike connection, which, after fitting, is lubricated with glue.

The main complexity and design feature is the creation of neat and even slots for cover movements. Strip the walls of the groove with a tree wrapped in sanding paper.

The second version of the assembly of the bread box with a hinged lid  also performed according to the standard scheme. The shape of such a product duplicates the popular plastic and metal models. A feature of this bread box is a flexible lid-curtain made of planks on a cord. A snug fit of wooden battens is possible due to the special profile shown in the diagram. One edge of each part is rounded, another has a small recess in the form of a groove. Due to this, the lid moves and a tight fit of the parts of the structure is formed.

The two-story model is also equipped with a flexible curtain. Another design feature - the width of its shelves is different (the upper one is narrower).

A restriction in the form of a wide bar was set behind, and it is located so that there is free space between it and the rear common wall on both shelves. There the curtain falls when opening the bread box. Otherwise, the product inside would interfere with the movement of the parts relative to each other.

If these three options make difficulties for the novice master, you can make a bread box with a flexible hinged lid, which is made up of narrow slats. The connection with the base is magnetic. There are also special latches on sale - you can use them for lack of magnetic parts. In the diagram, a variant with two sections is outlined.

Making bread sticks from wooden sticks

An unusual and interesting way is to create a container for storing bread from popsicle sticks. At first glance it seems that it is very difficult. But in reality, the process is not that complicated. The first work with sticks will allow you to construct the product in 45 minutes, and with the second and subsequent approaches, the time is reduced to 30 minutes.

An additional advantage of the ice cream sticks made of wooden sticks is the exceptional strength of the product.

We collect the necessary materials for work

For work you will need directly sticks and glue. The use of hot glue is undesirable if there is no appropriate skill. Otherwise, ugly traces remain on the breadbox.

Layout of the first three sticks in the form of guides

Adding three sticks to the shape of a hexagon

At this stage, it is worth considering the layout, since in the next steps it will be reproduced and affect the final appearance of the product from wooden sticks.

The final stage of work. Making the bottom, since only the upper unclosed part of the bread box is ready at this step.

So the product should stand for 2-3 days and finally dry, and in the meantime, you can prepare the cover from wood, birch bark, plywood, decorate it using decoupage technique, add decorative wooden elements, glue bows, stones and other decor elements from the store for creativity.

A similar model can be made from Chinese sticks. In this case, the bread box will be larger and more spacious.

Bamboo bread box

The combined model is made of a simple napkin and some materials that play the role of a frame, decor and, as a result, are light and unpretentious in production.

The wizard will need:

  • any suitable napkin;
  • strong paper - for example, a cardboard base;
  • self-adhesive film;
  • scissors to cut paper and fabric;
  • lace details;
  • pieces and cuts of fabric (depending on the method of decoration);
  • pencil for notes;
  • ruler for patterns and other measuring work;
  • decorative pen (if possible and desired - it can be purchased and complement the design).

The first thing to do is determine the size of the bread box for storage. Dimensions dictates the size of the bamboo base. With a napkin width equal to thirty centimeters, the total width of the product will be 28 cm, the height of the bread box is seventeen centimeters. The depth of the final version is twenty centimeters.

For the frame on the cardboard, mark the details (in cm.):

  • 28 to 20 - bottom;
  • 3.5 to 28 - before;
  • 17 to 28 - the back;
  • sides - 17 to 20.

So that the napkin does not puff, the sides are rounded.

It is necessary to ensure that the film fits snugly to the base. There should be no dents, creases or swelling. Smooth processed frame base - the key to quality work on the creation of the product.

The next stage is the processing of the napkin itself, which is cut into two parts. One will decorate the front wall with a height of 3.5 centimeters. The second will serve as a cover .

At the final stage, a general collection of the structure takes place. The napkin is glued to so that the napkin can smoothly lie on the frame and cover it whole. Here it becomes clear why the frame should be more compact than the cover.

You can decorate the finished product in different ways. The cover can be supplemented with stripes of felt, pieces of embroidery and knitting, beads, rhinestones and much more. The soft and flexible cover allows you to apply many techniques to it and not limit yourself to just one thing.

The following section provides a brief overview of decor techniques that can be applied both to the specified model, and to all the basic schemes presented above.

The combination of needlework techniques always looks advantageous if materials, accessories are selected harmoniously. You can decorate any part of the bread box, and in the case of a hanging bread box, you should think about the attractiveness of not only the front side and sides, but also the bottom.

Wooden breadbasket design

In addition to making the basis for storing bread, it is important to consider the decor of the product. Homemade bread bins with even simple details leave room for creativity. For centuries, the tradition of decorating kitchen boxes with wooden plates, paintings, engraving motifs, etc.

Table 1. Decor methods.

TitleThe essence of technology
A good way to decorate a bread box and make it attractive is to complement it with a relief. The image can be anything from individual parts of the pattern and ornament to large compositions. The motifs of nature, fairy-tale characters and human figures look attractive on a tree. The paintings are cut on wooden parts using a hand mill or an automatic milling tool.

Popular in various fields of creativity, the napkin technique allows you to decorate accessories and kitchen items with picturesque illustrations. Perfect for wood and perfectly smooth surfaces, which is typical of many models of bread bins. In this case, a piece of napkin or picture from a book or magazine will lie perfectly evenly, repeating the silhouette of the part and merging with the base. For decoupage use any image, including newspaper clippings and postcards.
This method is suitable for those who draw well. Brushes, wood paints and imagination are the components for a well-built composition and skillfully selected decor of the breadbasket. A beautifully painted surface may contain any elements that fit into the style of space: flowers, birds, landscapes, portraits of people in the interior, etc.
Craquelure can act as an independent element of decor, as well as additional. Its essence is the artificial aging of the surface. To do this, you need brushes, a special composition, protective gloves. The surface, decorated "antique" gives a stylish look to many household items in the framework of the relevant interior stylistics.

Decoupage wooden bread box

In this material, we will consider one of the techniques for creating a unique handmade bread box - applying images on a wooden surface using the decoupage technique.

For quality execution and decoration of the product, the master will need the following materials.

  • elements with a pattern that can be glued (on a thin basis - including part of a napkin, upper part of a dense postcard, etc.);
  • sandpaper;
  • scissors;
  • acrylic primer;
  • acrylic paint;
  • varnish for woodwork;
  • pVA glue;
  • tassel.

The decoration scheme of the bread box using decoupage technique is presented as a series of steps.

Step 1.  The wooden surface of the bread box is rubbed with a layer of sandpaper

Step 2  Ground the surface and let it dry.

Primer wooden parts of the bread box

Step 3  Apply a layer of paint with a brush and wait for the first layer to dry completely.

Step 4  Decor elements are lubricated with PVA glue or special glue for decoupage and attached to the wooden parts of the bread box. They are carefully leveled so that wrinkles do not appear on the surface of the tree, and they also wait for the tree to completely dry together with glue.

Step 5  At the end of the work, a finishing coating is applied. This can be a standard layer of varnish or craquelure for the appearance of the effect of antiquity on the subject of handmade work.

If necessary, work with the first and subsequent layers of varnish lead the next day. It is not necessary to complete the work at the same time, if you can wait. If there is time, it is worth pausing to make the product look even more impressive. For example, when using craquelure between the application of the first and final layers, you can use the oil umber to fill the resulting cracks and visually highlight them.

Step 6  The end of work in the decoupage technique is always associated with coating the product with several layers of acrylic varnish - two or three are enough to create a glossy or matte effect and visually complete the composition. Aged areas can also be tinted with bitumen, decorated with a vintage ribbon, as well as wooden overlays with a thematic picture applied using the same technique.

Decoupage not only accompanies the breadbox base and its lid, but also adorns the sidewalls and individual elements.

Conclusion

The bread box is a useful thing in the household. The wood from which the product is made opens up scope for creativity. Flat and smooth frame parts allow you to apply various finishing methods, and this does not require a complex tool. You can assemble the product both from a specially purchased wooden sheet, and from improvised material. Caring for the breadbox correctly is not a concern for the appearance of the product, but also for the health of family members who eat bread daily. It is important that it be made so that the products in it are kept fresh and tasty.

Bread boxes come in different sizes, shapes and designs. The choice is based on the dimensions of the kitchen, personal preferences of the household, the degree of filling capacity, woodworking skills. Do-it-yourself bread making is a great way to start decorating your home or apartment with your own hands. Techniques are diverse, where everyone will find something suitable for themselves.

The main advantage of a homemade wooden bread box is the long-term storage of bread in it, which remains fresh and soft. But it is also an original decorative household item that can become an interior decoration. Such utensils, of course, can be acquired, but if you have basic knowledge from the field of carpentry, you can create a truly unique thing.

Necessary preparations

Before you get down to work, you should consider what shape and size the thing will be, from what material it should be made. Previously, since the families were large, craftsmen created large boxes for storing bread, but today smaller dimensions are required.

Accepted product forms:

  • rectangular, square container with doors;
  • box closing with a lid;
  • an open dish with a fully open lid, despite the fact that the base can be used as a cutting board.

The door does not have to be simple - it can be flexible and resemble blinds.

You can decorate an item by applying a picture with coloring compounds, decoupage technique, by burning and carving, after which the outer side of the product is covered with a protective layer of a special food varnish or stain.

As for the materials, it can be wood, plywood, birch bark, bamboo.  Craftsmen even create their masterpieces from cardboard, cotton, clay, newspapers, and plastic bottles. The most widely used are bread bins made of wood and birch bark, and small wicker boxes made of twigs are also popular.

Having stopped the choice on one of types of a product,   you need to draw a diagram based on dimensions and preliminary drawing. In this case, it is necessary to build on the amount of bread and the size of loaves (loaves) that will be placed in the bread box. It is important that the contents fit freely inside. It is allowed to create drawings immediately on a tree or other material.

Woodworking

A bread box at home is often made from plywood, bamboo, birch bark and natural wood. This is due to their advantageous characteristics, such as breathability and humidity regulation inside the structure.

A wooden product should not be made of coniferous wood, characterized by a pronounced smell, interrupting the aroma of bread. The best varieties for creating a bread box are ash, birch or linden.

Plywood

For work, you will need a clamping carpenter's ruler, clamps, a jigsaw, a manual milling machine, emery.

  • At the first stage, it is necessary to cut out all the details in accordance with the drawing, best of all, with a jigsaw. The following blanks should be available - bottom, two sidewalls, top, rear wall, doors.
  • Next, you need to fasten all the elements with screws, screws, glue or through the groove-comb connection, having previously formed the recesses and spikes on the parts of the plywood.
  • Joints for reliability are treated with wood glue.
  • If a curtain door is conceived, it is made of battens, at the end an additional groove is made inside the bread box to move it.
  • The hinged door is mounted on the front side of the product.
  • After that, you need to carefully grind the item. The patterned look of the kitchen attribute can be decorated with lace carvings or painted with paint.

Small ventilation holes are made in the side and back walls of the product, allowing the bread to breathe.

A bread box made of wood is made in a similar way, only boards or parts of a wooden sheet are used as material, according to which, according to the sawing pattern, details are cut out.   This design may differ hinged lid, the presence of an internal shelf or division into sections.

Features of bamboo breadbox

The original thing can be created from bamboo rugs, and if you need small dimensions - from napkins, moreover, the work will take only a few hours.

To make it, you need to prepare cardboard, scissors, a self-adhesive tape, a piece of fabric, a pencil to create a sketch, you also need a beautiful souvenir handle for the curtain door. The size will depend on the parameters of the napkin.

  • First, a body is made of a thick sheet of cardboard.
  • In order for the door to close tightly, the side walls are rounded on one side.
  • All elements are connected with glue.
  • Inside and out, the cardboard is glued with a self-adhesive film, which gives it strength.

The final step is to finish with bamboo.  If the napkin is large, it is enough on the bottom and door.

Birch bark box

A product is created from the top layer of the linden bark or birch, but you can also craft it from the finished material, which is sold in shops for creativity.

The order of work.

  • You will need 24 ribbons of birch bark, which are laid horizontally and vertically (12 pieces each with a width of 20 mm). From them weaves a rug, which will be the deepest part of the box.
  • Weave the cover so that its height is one and a half diagonals of scabs, which are 0.5 mm wider than those used for the base.
  • The edges of the product are fixed with stainless steel wire.

The advantages of birch bark are soft bread that is not affected by mold and mildew, and the product does not dry out over time.

Bread bins from improvised materials

An interesting option is to create a bread box from a plastic bottle and paper. A capacity of 5 liters is suitable as the basis.

Manufacturing steps:

  • the bottle is cut into two identical parts along the neck, and sidewalls are cut from the bottom;
  • take newspapers or unnecessary paper, and tear it into small pieces;
  • then you need to coat the plastic with petroleum jelly, and lay on top the prepared paper parts;
  • pVA glue is applied to the first newspaper layer, and paper again, it is best to make 5-6 layers, after which the form is left for final drying, usually it takes several days;
  • as a result, the hardened form is removed from the plastic base;
  • to create a stand, you can use a deep saucer and do the same procedure with it as with the parts of the bottle.

All elements of the future bread box are fastened together with adhesive tape, and the stand is glued using hot melt adhesive. It remains to glue the structure with ordinary napkins, and then paint with acrylic paint. However, the decor you can choose which one you like.

Also, an open bread box can be made with your own hands from cotton and even a finished knitted fabric, which is soaked in starch water before being made. The main task is to create a dense inner base of cardboard, which will serve as a frame for soft material.

  • To do this, take a square sheet of cardboard with sides of 27 cm and a cotton cloth 1.5 cm larger. You will also need a ruler, a piece of chalk for marking, braid, pins, adhesive tape and an iron.
  • Two fabric cuts are sewn on three sides, then the resulting bag must be turned outward with the front surface and insert cardboard into it, then completely stitched.
  • Inside it, they draw a square with chalk, stitch it, and, connecting the corners with the help of pins, they get a semblance of a dish. Inside you can put a beautiful paper napkin, and decorate the borders with ribbons from ribbons.

A nice bread tray, if desired, can be made rectangular and round, and use for this a variety of types of material, including woolen and linen blanks.

From ancient times, it was commanded to store bread in wooden boxes, which the people began to call bread boxes. Thanks to this device, the pastries remained fresh and did not stale for a long time. Modern bread bins perform the same functions as their predecessors, but now they are more functional and convenient to use.

Now in any hardware store you can buy this device. But, a made wooden bread box with your own hands will become a real decoration of the interior of any kitchen and will retain the warmth of the hands of the master. Where to start work and what material do you need?

First you need to prepare before you begin the manufacturing process. Stock up on all the necessary tools and materials, prepare drawings for the future product in accordance with the dimensions, as well as the way the door functions. You can even make an approximate layout if such work is carried out for the first time. Lastly, design is thought out.

First you should choose the material from which the body will be made. A self-made bread box can be made from:

  • Plywood
  • Tree
  • Bamboo
  • Birch bark

Any of these materials allows air to pass through and regulates moisture inside the bread box - they are often combined in one product. Due to these properties of wood, bread retains its taste and smell for a long time. For fastenings and connections small screws, joiner's glue are used. Depending on how the door opens, you may need small awnings and a handle. Bread bins are made into several types, depending on how the door is designed:

  • Simple
  • Threaded
  • Blinds

To do the work, a standard set of a carpenter is suitable. Finishing the surface of the product may be a wound - it is determined by the design, and, accordingly, finishing materials for coating.

Making a wooden bread box with your own hands is quite simple. It is worth considering that linden, ash and birch will be an ideal option for this. Pine and spruce have a too persistent smell that will absorb bread. The manufacturing process itself can be divided into the following stages:

  1. According to the drawing, all the elements are cut from the tree, which must be tightly interconnected. Dimensions may be arbitrary. An example of the parameters is shown in the figure.
  2. The parts can be connected with screws, carnations or wood glue. More skilled craftsmen use a spike connection. Spikes are formed on some parts, and notches on others.
  3. Seams at the joints are coated with glue for better bonding. In this case, all compounds must be carefully processed. This is done with sandpaper.
  4. At the end, a door is made. A modern wooden bread box is usually equipped with a curtain door, which is made of thin slats.
  5. In order for the shutter door to move, you need to make a groove inside the body of the product, along which this element will move.

You can make a version of the door more simple sample. In this case, the curtain will recline outward. It is also made of thin slats. Often the planks are replaced with a bamboo rug, which is sewn with a strong thread.

In any case, such bread bins will be quite roomy and functional. Thanks to the material, the product is completely environmentally friendly and will suit any interior style. The surface can be varnished on wood, previously painted with a pattern. Those involved in carpentry can decorate the case with wood carvings.

Plywood as an analogue to wood

A cheaper analogue of wood is plywood. Do-it-yourself plywood bread box is made on the same principle as wooden. The main thing is to draw a sketch of the future product and qualitatively cut all the constituent elements. Plywood is difficult to process, since the edges can be folded, so you should act very carefully. To work, you need the following tools:

  • Jigsaw for cutting
  • The drill will form holes for connecting parts
  • The grinder is designed for cutting

The last step is the assembly. The figure shows the simplest example of this procedure.

Housing elements can be connected with glue, screws and grooves. Door hinges are mounted externally. At the end, general grinding is performed, and after that the surface is decorated. The case must have openings for ventilation.

Bamboo bread bins

Bamboo material is not only a decoration for finishing the body of the finished product. Often, craftsmen from bamboo napkins make small bread bins. Such a product will be made in a few hours, not days - this is a major plus.

To work you need:

  • Bamboo napkin
  • Cardboard
  • Self adhesive
  • Scissors
  • the cloth
  • Marking pencil
  • Decorative wooden handle

The dimensions of the future product are determined by the parameters of the napkin. A case is made of cardboard. The side walls on one side should be rounded. This is done so that the door closes smoothly and fits snugly against the structure.

Parts are glued together with glue. From above, from the inside, the body made is glued with self-adhesive. Thanks to this technique, cardboard will become much stronger. The final step is to finish with bamboo. Napkin cut into two parts. The first in size corresponds to the bottom, and the second will be a door. Its finish option will make the product unique.

Birch Bread Bin

Many masters are interested in: how to make a birch breadbasket? This material is very soft and pliable for weaving. It is difficult to buy this material, but you can make it yourself by cutting off the top layer of birch bark.

Since the body of the product is formed due to weaving, the bread box in its appearance resembles a box with a lid. Over time, birch bark material hardens.

Weaving methods:

  • Mat
  • Angular

In this case, it is necessary to monitor the formation of the edges of the panels - they must be even and tightly woven. For this, they use several basic tricks, adding strips for rounding.

The canvas for the lid and the bottom is woven of the same size, also applies to the side sections. The connection is a tape made of birch bark, which is woven into the gaps of the panels. A do-it-yourself breadbasket from birch bark will make the kitchen interior more unique and authentic.
