How to make a decorative lattice from slats. How to make a decorative lattice of wood for a gazebo with your own hands. Making a frame for a wooden lattice

It will be not only a decorative element, but, depending on its density, it will be able to protect it from rain and wind to some extent. It is the lattice that is the most popular and easily embodied decoration of arbors, in addition, they are simply irreplaceable in its individual types. For example, in - a wooden lattice for an arbor - this is the main component of the ensemble.

Why you need a grill, advantages

In fact, those who have a gazebo will not ask this question, because a gazebo with gratings is deservedly considered more practical, such a seemingly decorative element, eliminates many minuses open arbors.

The grill has such decorative and functional advantages:

  • It gives the design grace and lightness.
  • A successful decorative move that creates the impression of integrity and combines different structural elements into one ensemble.
  • The grille perfectly protects people sitting inside from unnecessary glances, but at the same time does not interfere with the free flow of air inside.
  • All climbing plantssuch as a rose, lemongrass, vine and other plants feel great on such a support and adorn the arbor.

Climbing plants and trellis inserts in the design of the gazebo

  • The grill increases the structural strength and is an additional stiffener.
  • The grill, which has small holes, provides protection against insects.
  • Do-it-yourself lattice decor for the gazebo in the presence of the necessary materials can be done in just 1-2 days.
  • It is light and has an aesthetic appearance.
  • Wood is an environmentally friendly material.

Plastic grilles

These can be bought in stores, they do not look as attractive as the grilles, but they still have advantages. First of all, it is the convenience of working with such panels, they are able to close a large space of non-standard shape. Other advantages include:

  • lack of need to process lattices with an antiseptic, to paint;
  • it perfectly tolerates atmospheric influences, does not rot, even if plants are planted at its base;
  • with plastic grilles it is easier to create unusual contours and shapes;
  • if the lattice will lash plants, namely the plastic grill will last longer.

Wood grilles

They are natural and environmentally friendly. It is from wood that arbors themselves are most often made, therefore it is logical to supplement the same openings with the same material. It is easy to make wooden lattices from girders for a gazebo with your own hands, and at the same time you can create the perfect look and uniquely this architectural form. As for the materials, the following wood species are used:

  • Oak. It is durable, and its pronounced texture is simply mesmerizing.
  • Beech. Not as durable as oak, but it strikes and attracts with an unusual pinkish tint.
  • Ash Strong, has a light color and bright texture.
  • Larch. It practically does not rot, which is very important if the product is constantly on the street and exposed to atmospheric influences.
  • Pine. Flexible and healthy wood, has antiseptic properties.

Tip: Do-it-yourself lattice is better than buying, as it is sometimes difficult to guess the color and choose it correctly to the existing gazebo. Repainting the finished grill from the store will be difficult.

Location Principles and Views

A decorative lattice for an arbor, it is also called a trellis, decorates a design. Their configuration and size are different. They are made of pine, beech and oak wood.

Tip: if you plan to use the lattice as a support for plants, it is important to choose a material that can withstand the effects of frost and moisture.

They can be mounted in the form of screens at right angles to the fence or groups near the walls. This helps to hide unattractive areas, power shields, for example. Also, grilles can be used as repeating elements, so it will be possible to create a common style with the house and other structures on the territory.

Tip: you can buy decorative lattices for the gazebo plastic or wooden, but if there is time and materials, it is better to make them yourself.

An element such as a grill is used in arbors, which are used daily and from time to time in indoor and outdoor buildings. According to the manufacturing schemes, it is also called weaving, there are such types of gratings:

  • Rectangular These are suitable as or under. In this embodiment, the slats intersect to form rectangles.
  • Diagonal. This is the ideal and most common solution when creating gratings from racks for a gazebo. They create an attractive drawing and image of the gazebo. At the intersection they form a rhombus.

Lattices can cover the space half the height of the frame or reach up to. In the grilles you can make a window or arched openings. It all depends on your imagination.

Laths in lattices are used equal or with various kinds of openwork elements. This solution gives the gazebo a special charm and uniqueness. Due to the fact that it is wood that is often used in production, such decoration will cost inexpensively, and the material is malleable and can take on different shapes in skilled hands.

Tools and materials

To make a lattice for a gazebo with your own hands, you do not need a lot of materials, tools or time. Of the tools and materials you will need:

  • a hacksaw for wood with small teeth;
  • nails and screws;
  • antiseptic for wood, varnish /;
  • bars and slats;
  • a grinder will be needed if the raw materials are not of the highest quality and need additional grinding;
  • hammer and tongs;
  • sandpaper;
  • roulette;
  • low speed screwdriver or drill.

Tip: When choosing lumber for the grate, you need to be very careful about the quality of the raw materials. Any defects - cracks, chips - should make you refuse to buy, it is better to find material more expensive, but better.

Two-frame grill

Tools, such as those mentioned above, as for, you will need:

  • bars with a cross section of 45x20 mm;
  • slats 10x20, 20x20 and 30x20 - they are needed for internal filling. The massiveness of the lattice depends on the thickness of the strip, which means that it can carry the function of the stiffener;
  • a bar for edging around the perimeter, its thickness depends on the thickness of the rail, which is used to make the grill.

Frame assembly

The first thing to do is assemble the frame, it is often rectangular. To connect the components of the frame to each other, you can use different connection methods: "tenon groove", "on the mustache", dowels or PVA, even just for self-tapping screws. Choosing a method and connecting the bars, it is important to maintain an angle of 90 degrees. Be sure to check that the diagonals of the opposite angles are the same, otherwise the frame will skew, and you won’t be able to insert it into the prepared place.

Filling out

Reiki frames are filled in a mirror image, as they will overlap one another.

Important: maintain the same distance between the rails, so the intersection pattern will be more accurate.

The wood lattice for the gazebo after stuffing is cut along the perimeter of the frame, if there are protruding elements. You can stuff rails with nails, and it is better to use galvanized nails, they will not rust on the street, which means they will not spoil the appearance of the frame.

If you plan or varnish, this must be done before assembly, so you can achieve high-quality staining. After drying, the structure can be assembled, it is more convenient to twist the slats with self-tapping screws, pressing the hats into the tree, they can be closed with wooden dowels.

Tip: if in the summertime midges and mosquitoes annoy, it is worth laying between the frames of the racks mosquito net, and only then bring down the elements.

Single grill

You can also make a single lattice, the slats of which are fixed on one frame, it is less voluminous, it takes less "area", but you will have to spend more time on fitting. The connection of the frame is similar to the previous version, the materials are the same.

Assembly is carried out according to the following scheme:

  • Inside the frame, on the seamy side, rails are cut, cut to size. They are fixed parallel to each other with the help of nails or self-tapping screws.
  • Next, the frame should be turned over, from the front side of the rail to fill over the wrong side. And not on top of the frame, but on a par with it, that is, you need to trim the rails very accurately. To the frame, the “face” is fixed with self-tapping screws. For greater reliability, they should also fix the intersection of the rails.
  • It is possible to color or apply varnish to it in assembled form.

Tip: for uniform coloring it is convenient to use a spray gun.

Lattices for an arbor: a lattice groove in a groove

Such grilles have an attractive appearance; at first glance you may not notice the attachment points. To create such a lattice, you will need more specific tools, such as a milling cutter, a circular disk or a carpentry machine, a surface gage. Such devices are not at the disposal of every master, but this method of assembling the grill is also worth knowing.

With this method of assembly, the frame is not made. At least, it does not carry such a functional load as in the first two versions. For fastening the elements do not need nails, screws and even glue. The assembly mechanism is based on the groove-comb technique.

Sequence of work.

When traveling to a suburban area, I want to make the rest as comfortable and convenient as possible. Unfortunately, weather conditions do not always accompany our desires. In order not to depend on the vagaries of the weather in the form of too hot a day or precipitation, it is better to consider a way of protection. For this purpose, an arbor installed in a country house or in a personal plot is suitable.

Since recently everyone is trying to create something original in the lap of nature, a huge number of different arbors from various materials have appeared on the sales market. The choice is easy to make. True, such constructions are expensive. If you want to make a summer house of your own liking, you can do it yourself.

Types and Features

It is not difficult to assemble the frame, sheathe it and install the roof. But to decorate the gazebo with taste is the next question.

One of the most affordable and easiest solutions will be the use of a wooden grill. It will serve as a fence and become an element of decoration. It seems to be a simple element, and the gazebo will acquire an aesthetic and elegant look. Moreover, it is not difficult to make it on your own and at your own discretion.

First you need to decide on the choice of material, and then apply imagination and creative imagination.

Openwork trellised parapets look light, give grace to the whole structure, do not block the light. Therefore, they can surround the pergola.

It consists of such elements: two frames firmly hold the entire structure, between them are inserts of crossed battens.

By combining planks and decorating shapes in various ways, you can create types of wooden gratings:

  • open and closed view;
  • with crossed slats;
  • with connection in grooves.

Location

Different ways to fill the planks will lead to drawings:

  • in the shape of rectangles;
  • in the form of a diagonal.

A very beautiful pattern is obtained at the intersection of narrow slats. The impression can be increased by sawing different patterns: in the form of cloves or waves. Their execution along the edges of the grid bars creates an excellent design.

If you cannot make patterns due to the lack of suitable tools, you can order them to a joiner. You can buy ready-made patterns in the store.

Materials and tools

  • pine has good flexibility and tolerates climatic conditions;
  • oakknown for its strength and excellent texture of the material;
  • larchit is easily processed and is the most reliable material on service life;

  • ashnot inferior to oak in strength and has a light color;
  • beechit attracts with the beauty of a pinkish hue, the flexibility of texture and impact resistance;
  • birchthe easiest to process, but inferior to the others in terms of durability and strength.

Among the listed types of tree can be noted as the best oak, beech, larch, but they are also the most expensive in value. Ash comes next in price, followed by pine and birch. If the financial side requires savings, the best option would be a pine. Birch does not differ in long service life: it easily collapses and rots from temperature changes, under the influence of bacteria and fungi.

The first step is taken - the material is selected.

The second step is to prepare the necessary equipment. The set of tools depends on the type of grill you decide to make.

If the lattice is simple, you need materials: wooden bars 25x40 mm, planks 20x10 mm, self-tapping screws and a screwdriver, nails and a hammer, a file or an electric jigsaw, impregnation and coloring materials of your choice, a ruler, waterproof glue for wood, a mosquito net.

Trying to make a complex type of lattice is desirable for those who have experience with wood. For such work, you will need a more complex set of tools: a milling machine, a circular saw, a joiner's table, a surface gage and abrasives for working with ready-made slats.

Do it yourself

Consider in more detail the order of manufacture of the lattice.

Frame manufacturing

The best working material will be a 20x45 mm bar. It is not massive and visually looks airy, which cannot but affect the aesthetics, in contrast to creating a skeleton from wider and larger bars.

If the grilles are small, 20 x 10 mm strips are sufficient. Fixing the frames into a complete product is recommended by such methods:

  • in the "thorn";
  • sawing grooves;
  • using metal mounts (use nails, screws);
  • using a plug-in rack "on the mustache."

Assembly

It is most reliable to fix it in a spike, although this method requires some experience.

You can make grooves at the ends of the bars and glue them together. For full fastening, still drive carnations into the corners, first cutting off the hats so that they do not spoil the general appearance.

In the second case, saw down all the bars at an angle of 45 degrees, then completing the grooves and inserting the "mustache" - an additional rail for fastening the bars and strips. Fix “Us” with glue and prepared nails as well as in the first case.

Having assembled the main frame, you can proceed with the folding, making the necessary grooves or nailing the slats of the same kind that went to the grill. Grooves are best done on the machine: manual processing may not give the required accuracy. To simplify the work, you can fill the planks facing the frame, cutting off the corners. This will help close the ends of the crate, making the design more beautiful. But if the ends enter closed openings, folds are not needed. One grill consists of two identical frames.

It is not difficult to create a lattice with a diagonal intersection - the slats are stuffed onto the frame, and both frames are connected.

If a rectangular intersection is chosen, the planks are beaten into two halves differently - vertically and horizontally.

You can create a rhombic lattice by arranging the slats diagonally. Then between them and the frame there will be a distance of 45 degrees. To avoid such gaps, it is first easier to put marks on the frame, laying the planks at the same distance. Work requires attention. After fixing the slats, cut off the excess ends with a hacksaw or jigsaw. The other part of the frame is the same.

Place the finished frames with a mirror image, turning the folds inward. So, the planks intersect, creating weaving in the form of a rhombus. Before fixing the frames, it is advisable to fix the mosquito net, which will protect from insects. Both bases are fixed with glue and additionally with self-tapping screws in the corners. For reliability, nail nails at regular intervals.

It is more difficult to make a solid grid connected in grooves. It requires the fastening of the strips into a holistic frame by performing grooves. The tools prepared for a difficult type of work are useful here: a joiner's table, a circular saw, a machine tool.

Half plank grooves are worked out in planks. After cooking, clean them with emery and adjust to each other.

If the strips are not wide, prepare the grooves on the utility board of suitable thickness, and then cut it into the necessary pieces.

To facilitate the work, a template blank of bars and plywood is suitable. Set the finished template with an allowance of 1 mm in relation to the thickness of the strip. Align all wooden parts with a thicknesser.

Finished planks are easy to assemble by installing grooves in each other. So the lattice is formed. Between the planks usually leave a distance of 5 cm. If the lattice structure is designed to cover the entire wall of the gazebo, a distance of 10 cm can be allowed between the slats. It remains to align the entire workpiece and secure it to the frame. If you cut the grooves in it before, the appearance will retain its beauty. After all, the attachment points of the lattice to the frame will not be visible, and the whole gazebo will look light and elegant.

If you approach the matter creatively, it is easy to arrange the upper parts of the grill curved, broken or arched.

Option "in the pot"

This is another type of lattice fabrication. He is considered more difficult, so it would be good for him to have some working skills. With this option, the rails do not overlap, but are embedded in each other.

The procedure is as follows:

  • laths are marked according to the planned design of a lattice in a rhombic or square look;
  • separately on each plank according to the markings made, hands or on the machine grooves in depth half the thickness of the tree;
  • the strips are inserted one after another into each other, the effect of a continuous canvas in the form of a rhombus or a square is obtained. Externally, the grille has an elegant look.

Remember! For sturdy and reliable grilles use larger bars and rails.

The advantages of the method of "blind" are:

  • getting a graceful lattice;
  • no need to cook a second frame.

The disadvantage is the extra work of cutting grooves.

Design

A beautiful lattice is already a decoration of a personal plot. If you want additional decor, paints, climbing plants will help.

Wood has a unique, unique structure. It is decorated with natural patterns, which are enough to highlight using varnish or impregnation. They also protect the tree. Of the varieties of wood, it is better to choose the color that is more like or suitable for the rest of the site design.

There are many forms, patterns of wooden trellises.

For example, diagonal (diamond-shaped). The most beautiful design, but glazing is impossible, which means it is a less practical option. Rectangular shapes resemble an ordinary window, with larger glass cells. Or the crate can consist of various patterns - these are Asian exotic motifs. But, having no experience in wood, it is too difficult to make them yourself.

Another option may be the manufacture of double diamonds: the location of the rails in the middle of the frame more often than at the edges, or in reverse. It turns out a very original look.

Double wooden nets look beautiful. There is an option - cut cloves on the edges of the rails. It will look like lace, especially if you managed to make the cloves smaller. Craftsmen decorate the grilles with carvings or figures, which is an interesting solution. But here it is important not to overdo it with the quantity, so that beauty does not turn into sloppiness.

At the end of the work, in many cases the finished gazebo is varnished. But with fantasy, coloring will be an additional touch. Designers recommend turning to white paint, which will give the design a style and a modern look. Painting in different colors of the gazebo and gratings will also be original, if the color scheme is successfully selected.

Just build a gazebo in the yard is not difficult. But it should not only be a tick, but also bring aesthetic pleasure, because its main purpose is to spend time with loved ones or to be alone, pondering the depths.

In this case, the crate is an indispensable element for the gazebo. It can be performed in various ways. One of them will be considered in the article.

Why crate is needed

Making the crate for the gazebo is hardly a nontrivial task. The process requires accuracy and care. The design of the crate allows you to give the structure a complete look, removing large openings.

At the same time, the crate provides a higher level of privacy, blocking visitors from prying eyes of neighbors or passers-by. The fabric cannot replace the crate, since the latter does not prevent the influx of fresh air.

On a sunny day, the crate will bring more comfort inside the gazebo, partially obscuring the area. It is easier to mount an anti-mosquito on the grate, which will become protection against annoying mosquitoes. In addition, this addition to the gazebo is perfect for climbing plants that can freely braid the structure.

What to do

Someone prefers that the crate was made of metal, but this design is quite bulky and takes away all the lightness from the gazebo. That is why it is easier to make of wood, in addition, it is this option that is easy to do with your own hands. As a basis, oak can be used.

The wood of this plant has high strength as well as durability. It can be coated with stain to give a special shade. But for an inexperienced carpenter, oak can be a problem, because its processing requires special skill.

Larch is not inferior in strength to oak. But the wood of this plant is more susceptible to processing, so it is an excellent option for crate. Another advantage of just such wood is its resistance to moisture.

Due to the high density of wood, moisture is not able to penetrate into the thickness and cause rotting processes. Another option for the construction of such a structure is ash. To some extent, he absorbed all the advantages of the other two options and his appearance will delight the owner.

It is easy to get beech wood in some places. The highlight of the wood is a pinkish tint, which cannot but attract the eye. The wood of this plant is well processed, but without decoration it will not last long. With constant exposure to humid air, softwood will be an excellent base for crates.

The thickness contains a significant amount of resins that have a water-repellent effect. In addition, such wood will fill the room with a pleasant aroma.

Preparatory stage

The task of the preparatory phase is to collect the necessary tools and materials. For a quality completion of the task you will need:

  • roulette;
  • pencil;
  • chisel;
  • screws or nails;
  • glue for wood;
  • square;
  • antiseptic composition;
  • paintwork;
  • hacksaw.

First of all, it is necessary to measure the space that will be covered by the crate. The obtained values \u200b\u200bare transferred to a piece of paper. It is advisable to carry out a schematic drawing of the gazebo, so that it is clear how a particular pattern will look on a particular building. Next, you need to choose the method of placing the strips on the crate. There are several options, the main of which are:

  • diagonal slats;
  • straight rails;
  • chivron;
  • mill.

Visually, these wood structures can be estimated from the illustration above. The most common is the first version of the crate. Due to the diagonal placement of the strips at the points of intersection, diamond-shaped holes are formed that give the structure a pleasant appearance. The disadvantage of this option is a certain difficulty in maintaining the angle, as well as the impossibility of glazing. In addition, climbing plants cling worse to such a crate.

The rectangular version of the crate for the gazebo will be one of the simplest that an inexperienced craftsman can make. Planks are located at right angles, and the cell size is easy to vary by the number of elements. In some cases, glazing is provided. This option is perfect if you want to grow wild grapes. The third and fourth options will look great on gazebos, which are made according to the model borrowed from the eastern peoples.

Note! The preparatory phase also includes surface planing, as well as wood impregnation with antiseptic compounds.

Frame preparation

Any construction begins with a foundation or foundation. Such a basis for the crate is a frame made of wood. Previously, according to the dimensions in the drawings, it is necessary to prepare bars for the lathing, simply cutting them to the required dimensions. The connection is made by a spike method. To make it, you need a chisel, a hacksaw and a pencil with a tape measure. A groove is made in two pieces of wood. Its depth should be equal to the width of the bar. In the other two, a protrusion or spike is made from two ends, which should fit tightly into the prepared groove. Additionally, a hole is drilled in the wood into which the dowel is inserted. Its task is to strengthen the entire structure.

Before assembly, all interacting parts made of wood are coated with wood glue. Next, you need a square, which will help withstand right angles at the wooden frame for the crate. Instead of a dowel, you can use wood screws or nails. In the first case, it is better to pre-drill holes with a smaller diameter than a self-tapping screw, and only then screw them in. This will prevent cracks in the wood of the frame.

Advice! Instead of a spike connection of the frame for the crate, you can go the simpler way. In this case, each end of the frame elements is cut at an angle of 45 degrees. The miter box will help in this. After that, you can connect the elements with nails and glue. If a crate with a diagonal arrangement of planks is planned for implementation, then a double number of frames will be needed, since the crate strips themselves are placed between them. In this case, the size of paired frames should be identical.

Assembly process

For ease of assembly of the diagonal pattern of the crate, two templates can be made, as shown in the photo above. They are small trim strips of the same size. The first frame is located on a flat surface and is fixed to it with clamps. The ends of the slats for the frame do not have to be immediately trimmed to an angle of 45 degrees. It will be easier if they during assembly will protrude slightly outside the frame of the crate.

The first element is exposed using a tool that can be set aside 45 degrees. All subsequent ones are placed using prepared templates. Reiki nailed to the frame with small cloves. In addition, they can be glued so that the crate has greater strength. The protruding parts are cut around the perimeter of the frame, which automatically makes the ends at 45 degrees. The finished structure is covered with several layers of varnish. After that, you can fix the second frame on the crate.

Each element of the crate is made according to the above algorithm. When assembling, you must correctly select the length of the nails. They must not protrude beyond the crate frame after clogging. If this happened, then the tip must be eliminated with nippers, and the place of breakdown should be covered with linseed oil so that it does not become a hotbed of the development of decay processes. When ready, all the modules of the lathing are installed in their place and are fixed with screws or nails. The installation process can be seen in the video below.

Summary

As you can see, the crate is a great addition to the gazebo. There is a version of the crate, which is made with a cut. In this case, at the intersection of the planks of the battens, cuts are made in half the thickness of the plank. This allows you to connect them so that the design is monolithic. Most often, the elements sit on glue, because the nails will look messy. During the manufacture and assembly of the modules, it is necessary to use personal protective equipment in the form of gloves and glasses.

The effective decorative lattice will add a cosiness and charm to an arbor. The lattice can act as an independent decorative element, and can become a support for grapes or other climbing plants.

Decorative lattice for an arbor

The lattice is a frame filled with elements that intersect each other. The frame provides the construction with the necessary rigidity and strength. The crate is very important for creating a complete image of the gazebo. For the manufacture of modern gratings, many materials are used: wood, metal, stone and even plastic.

Benefits:

  • Due to the lattice there is an increase in the strength of the arbor;
  • Attractive architectural element;
  • Breathability of the structure;
  • Easy protection against sunshine;
  • The grill can be made with your own hands.

Disadvantage

  • The price for the grate sometimes reaches up to 30% of the cost of the entire structure.

Grill materials

Wood is traditionally considered the ideal material for the crate. This material gives the arbor a cosiness and special lightness. Wood allows you to create a lattice with a different weaving system. If necessary, using special compositions, you can give the lattice the desired color.

Forged lattice will cost more than a similar wooden one. Despite the strength of the metal structure, it cannot compete with the wooden grid. A metal grill will not be as light and airy as a wooden one.

Plastic grilles can be called the most modern. They look good with all sorts of styles of gazebos. Plants easily wrap around such trellises and bloom.

Benefits:

  • Plastic is not damaged by corrosion and fungus, does not rot;
  • The grill does not fade over time and does not require maintenance;
  • The plastic is soft, such grilles cannot injure birds and animals.

Many are interested in the question of how to make a grate for a gazebo? If you are not satisfied with the ready-made options of arbors offered in the store, you can realize your fantasies. You can also redo the existing drawings of gratings for your gazebo.

You can buy a finished decorative lattice at a price of 268 rubles per square meter.

Plastic grill price 300 rubles per sq. M.

Wooden arbor grate

The wooden lattice is most often made from such strong species as beech and oak. The surface of the grate is treated with special tools that prevent rot and protect against insects. The tree is easily tinted, which means that the color of the lattice will be in harmony with the color of the arbor. A grid with small patterns will provide additional insect protection. At the same time, a lattice with a large pattern is distinguished by better breathability.

How to make a wooden grid?

The grill can be made of any size, the main thing is that it fits the arbor in size, it may be slightly smaller than the opening of the arbor.

  1. The manufacture of the grill begins with the preparation of the frame. The frame is made of bars of a certain size. The frame is usually secured using spiked joints.
  2. The next stage is the preparation of the required number of racks. Reiki should be with a small margin. At this stage, slats and frames must be treated with protective compounds against insect pests and rot.
  3. Now you need to nail the slats to one of the frames. The frames must be folded so that the slats lie crosswise, while the heads of the nails are inside. Next, the frames are fastened and inserted into the opening.

In the video, you can watch the process of making a wooden grill.

You can buy an oak lattice at the price of 2300 rubles. Beech grate can be bought at a price of 1800 rubles, the size of such a

- 2000x500 mm. When buying, choose a lattice coated with varnish, the fact is that small parts are very troublesome to varnish at home.

DIY grate

The design of the grill is not as complicated as it might seem. You can make a decorative mesh yourself without using professional tools.

For the manufacture of the lattice, we need the following materials:

  • Reiki cross-section 10 to 20 mm
  • Wooden bars 20x45. Greater thickness bars should not be used, as there is a risk that the grill will lose its airiness.

Tools required:

  • Hacksaw;
  • A hammer;
  • Self-tapping screws, spike connections.

The frame can be assembled from bars using spiked joints. Even if you do not have tools, do not rush to go to the store for the finished grate. Connecting operations can be done in another way. At the ends of the bars, make normal selections and glue the parts together. To increase the reliability of the structure, screw into each corner with a self-tapping screw.

How to draw a picture on the grill?

  1. After creating the frame, you can proceed to stuffing the filling elements. For these purposes, you will need slats that form patterns.
  2. The grill can be closed or open type. If as a result the lattice should be completely closed, then fill along the edges of the bars of the rack with a section of 10 by 20 mm. In this way, you can fasten the corners of the frames, for this the ends of the rails should overlap the joints of the strapping bars.
  3. If the grate is closed, then do not fold. The filling elements are filled onto the frame with an allowance, and then cut along the contour of the strapping bars. The pattern of the arrangement of the slats should match.
  4. Painting the grilles is recommended to be disassembled, especially since the structure is easily disassembled and assembled.
  5. Between the lattice frames, you can stretch the mosquito net. Thus, the lattice will not only perform a decorative function, but also protect it from insects.

The installation of the lattice consists in creating a niche that is equal to the internal size of the lattice itself. This will quickly install or remove it from a niche. The crate of the gazebo will not take much time.

The lattice will well complement any arbor. It will look equally good as an openwork wall in a half-open arbor or as an element of the porch.

Everyone strives to make the gazebo attractive in appearance. An excellent decoration in this case is grate for the gazebo. Do-it-yourself wooden grating for a gazebo is quite simple. This will be discussed in this article.

The decorative lattice for the gazebo serves not only as a beautiful decoration, but can also be the basis for climbing plants.

Materials

It is possible to make decorative wooden lattices for an arbor quite economically. All the materials you most likely have. Even if something is missing, you can easily get it at a garden store at a cheap price. After determining the necessary materials, it remains only to figure out how to make a grate for the gazebo.
For manufacturing you will need:

  1. Whetstones;
  2. Hacksaw
  3. Screws
  4. Nails
  5. Planks
  6. Sander
  7. Wood glue
  8. Paint or varnish for wood

A little tip. Before you start to manufacture the grill, determine the size of the frame, design and shape of the grill. It is best to make a small drawing with which you will consult in the course of work.

Method number 1: stud connection

We make frames

In order to make a wooden lattice, you need to make its frame. A beam with a section of twenty by forty-five mm is perfect. We cut the bars according to the parameters of the section of the gazebo, which we will close with a grill. Then we connect them with one of the options for connecting the planks of the main frame (in the photo below)

Looking at the picture, we cut off the ends of the bars with a hacksaw. After that, knock them together with nails. In the likeness we make the second frame.

Crate

The crate for the gazebo is simple. We have almost finished frames, it remains to make a fold (selection at the edge of the board in the form of a rectangle). We need 4 wooden frames of 10 by 20 mm for each frame (a total of 8). We fasten these strips with nails along the edges of the sides of the frame.

Let's make a marking on the long sides of the frame in the place where the bars of the grill will be. We cut the ends of the slats at an angle of forty-five degrees.

Now it remains only to assemble the grate. We add the resulting halves so that the planks of the frames intersect and fasten them with self-tapping screws.

Frames must be absolutely identical, only in this way you will get a quality result.

We examined the first way to create a wooden lattice. This method is the most simple and popular. Also decorative grilles are made in other ways. Let's consider them further.

Method number 2. If there are no tools for stud connection

Lathing algorithm

At the ends of wooden blocks we make small samples. Then we join them and firmly connect them with carpentry glue. You should also strengthen the corners with self-tapping screws (drive one self-tapping screw into each corner).
We make two identical wooden frames. Then we attach the slats to the side of each beam. Now you have a fold.

Filling out

Now, in order to get a high-quality wooden lattice for a gazebo with your own hands, you need to deal with its filling. To do this, you need to make the same rails that are used in the rebate. Reiki are placed diagonally at an equal distance from each other.

Assembly

We proceed to the assembly of the lattice. Fold the two frames so that the rails intersect, and fasten them with self-tapping screws. At the same time, the frames can be slightly jerked for better docking.

It is also worth placing a mosquito net between the frames. This will help you avoid a huge accumulation of insects in the gazebo and reliably protect against bites.

Grid Processing

To give the tree a better look, as well as for a longer life of the tree, it should be treated with paint or varnish. Usually, varnish is applied in several layers. It is better to process it before assembling the grill.
Here is one example of how to make a finished grate for a gazebo.

And here is the finished grate option on the gazebo.

Method number 3: "In the pot"

When applying this method, you do not need to lay rails on top of each other, but to sink one into the other. To do this, it is necessary to mill or cut grooves at each element half the thickness of the rail in depth and with a width equal to the width of the rail. Next, insert one bar into another. This will create the effect of a whole canvas with which rhombuses or squares are cut. Such a product will look more unique and openwork.

If you need to make more durable and massive wooden lattices for an arbor with your own hands, then you should take a rail and a bar of a larger thickness. You can make a grid, as described above, or use a different method. It consists in the manufacture of one frame, not two. In this frame, recesses are cut under the slats of the required size, equal to the thickness of the parts. Next, you need to fix the strips in the holes with screws or glue.

The advantage of this method is that you do not have to make a second frame. And such a grill will look much more unique.

Grill installation

In all cases, you will need at the very end to independently install the grill in the place prepared for it. During installation, it is necessary to align the product with respect to the supporting walls, using a hammer. It is necessary to knock out until the edges are not even with the front side of the vertical posts. After you align the grate, you can proceed to fasten the product. It is necessary to attach the side bars to the supporting beams using self-tapping screws. Fasteners should be recessed into the wood, then putty putty on.

Lattice decoration

To give a wooden lattice a more presentable appearance, you can use various decorations. The bindweed plant will fit perfectly into the interior of the summer cottage, but do not forget that such a plant also needs care. It is necessary to trim the plant with secateurs periodically, and also to water the necessary amount of water about once a week. These plants include climbing roses, girl's grapes, actinidia, and others.

You can also paint the grid in a color that will be combined with the color of the plant. This will give a special contrast and style to your gazebo.

Add originality

Now let's look at a more complex version of how wooden lattices for a gazebo are made with their own hands. The main difference between more complex structures is their drawing. For example, a rhombus can be double or triple. Also, grilles are combined with various curly and carved elements.

You can create almost any shape of the lattice, harmoniously decorating it to your taste. The photo shows various design options for the grilles.

You can go even further and make a lattice of cut tree branches. Such a lattice certainly will not leave anyone indifferent, will attract everyone's attention. Production should begin with a frame of thick branches. These branches need to be connected with self-tapping screws. Then the space inside the frame must be filled with thinner branches, arranging them as your heart desires. You can attach branches to the frame with a tight wire or with self-tapping screws.

Arbor lattice shape

The most common grid shape is a square or rectangle. And it is quite logical and convenient. But if you want to give the gazebo a unique look, you can make the top of the grill broken or curved. The rack cornice looks great in the shape of an arch. You can choose any other form, it all depends entirely on your imagination.

A wooden lattice for a gazebo with your own hands will significantly save your money and fit perfectly into the interior of a summer cottage. In addition, as we found out, making it is not at all difficult. With the help of wooden grilles, you will make your site unusual and stylish. This will greatly improve the appearance of the garden and show you a true gardener.
