Interior doors for rooms with high ceilings. Interior doors. Ways to open interior doors

Choice interior doors Is not as easy a task as it might seem. What material and what type of construction to choose, and how to correctly fit the door into the design of the room - read our detailed article. Selection best photos attached.

Interior doors, of course, are an extremely important design element of any room and apartment as a whole. After all, it is the doors that connect the two spaces that should be in harmony with both rooms, regardless of whether they are made in the same general style or are inspired by completely different ideas.

So, when in the process of renovation you are faced with the question of choosing interior doors, you should pay attention to a few basic rules.

  1. Naturally, ideal option the doors will be made of natural materials. We will never tire of repeating that good material - this is not only an aesthetic choice, but also the basis for the longevity of a particular design element, and this indicator can more than recoup the costs. In the matter of choosing interior doors the best choice - doors made of solid wood or natural veneer.
  2. High-quality coverage is another point that you should pay close attention to. It is a high-quality coating that will help extend the service life of the door without losing its attractive appearance... In addition, a high-quality varnish or laminate is also a matter of health!
  3. Pay attention to the fit of all door elements: there should not be any extra gaps at the joints of individual parts, such as grilles, frames, glass inserts or other materials.
  4. Correct geometry is what matters! Only minor discrepancies of a few millimeters are permissible, otherwise you risk in the future to get certain problems with installation and operation.
  5. Remember that the door frame must be with a seal, and if glass is used in the decoration, then it must be of sufficient quality to withstand all the operational moments with dignity!

Determining the material

Fiberboard

Doors made of fiberboard, or in other words, fiberboard, are a relatively cheap option. Unlike chipboard, which include formaldehyde resins, which eventually emit toxic fumes, fiberboard - more eco-friendly material... It is a slab made of pressed wood dust, wood particles in which are steamed during the manufacture of the slabs, and therefore they speak of production by the wet pressing method.

Do not think that fiberboard doors in appearance resemble the back walls of Soviet wardrobes. In the production of doors, fiberboard is ennobled by pressing with special dyes. In addition, the material goes through the so-called strengthening process, which also positively affects its external and functional qualities.

In general, fiberboard doors are a good economic choice with a number of other advantages: fiberboard doors are resistant to moisture and strong enough to last you a long time.

MDF

MDF is an excellent compromise between product price and quality. Not only is MDF an environmentally friendly material, but, in addition, it has an excellent texture that allows you to make any carved elements from it. So if you want a door with interesting decor, MDF will perfectly cope with such a task.

MDF can be an excellent "filling" for an interior door. In this case, external finishing can be made, for example, from natural veneer. If you are considering more budget options, then you can opt for an imitation veneer finish or lamination.

In addition to the advantages associated with possible design delights in the performance of the door leaf, MDF has other advantages, including:

  • moisture resistance;
  • durability;
  • practicality;
  • resistance to deformation.

Solid wood

If you want the doors in your apartment to look expensive and noble, to serve you for a long time, and at the same time you are ready to pay the appropriate price for this, your choice is solid wood interior doors.

A wonderful natural material, wood, has a number of advantages:

  • the strength of the door structure;
  • excellent adhesion to finishing materials;
  • reliability of fasteners;
  • environmental friendliness;
  • high quality;
  • wealth of design options.

But this material, unfortunately, is not without its drawbacks:

  • each door made of solid wood is in a certain sense universal, since the wood pattern is unique;
  • low resistance to temperature extremes and moisture (quality coating and proper care are required);
  • large weight of the structure, which requires the use of extremely reliable and sturdy fittings.

Most often, during serial production, the surface of solid wood doors is covered with thin sheets of natural veneer - to improve moisture and heat resistance and increase the service life. Veneered wooden doors cope with this task perfectly!

Glass

Many modern styles, such as high-tech or minimalism, do not favor such natural materials like wood or artificial imitation of wood canvases. The futurism of such styles dictates the choice of completely different materials - metal, plastic, glass.

And if metal doors are not the best choice for dividing rooms, then glass doors, on the contrary, do not look pretentious and somewhat simplify and facilitate. The matte surface makes them easy to fit into any room and use, including, and as a door for and.

In addition, the possibilities of decorating glass canvases are multifaceted! The combination of frosted glass with ordinary glass, stained glass, sandblasted drawings - all this will help you choose a truly unique door for a unique interior!

Choosing the design of the interior door

Exist a large number of options for interior doors, including classic swing doors, and more interesting designs - sliding or folding. All the details are below.

Swing doors

Swing doors are the simplest and most familiar type of doors. The structure of such a door consists of a door leaf and a frame. But even these simplest doors currently boast a variety of options.

A similar design and type of opening is currently used everywhere: both as interior doors and as entrance doors.

Sliding doors

Such a currently popular type of door designs as sliding doors came to us from Asia, where they have been used since ancient times. Their main advantage is ergonomics.

The design, however, is a door leaf, which is attached to a guide with rollers installed inside a bar attached to the wall. The rollers are attached to the top of the door with a special bracket.

Sliding doors are able to fit into the smallest room, allowing you not to save precious meters.

Let's highlight the main advantages of the sliding type of opening:

  • saving space, allowing you not to waste space in an irrational way;
  • safety of construction;
  • stylish and fashionable design.

The main disadvantages include low sound and heat insulation, as well as a higher cost in comparison with classic sliding doors.

One way or another, sliding doors are a stylish and modern version of interior doors. We invite you to familiarize yourself with interesting examples in our photo gallery:

Sliding doors

Sliding doors belong to the subgroup sliding doors, however, they are somewhat different in design from the classical type, and therefore we singled out as an independent group.

The design of such doors is akin to classic doors. But, of course, interior sliding doors differ from cabinet doors in weight and strength. In addition, do not forget about the presence of a handle and a lock.

Sliding doors are more ergonomic than classic sliding doors due to the fact that the sliding doors not only move to the side when opened, but also overlap each other.

Sliding doors

Another interesting view sliding doors are protruding doors with a sliding mechanism. Such designs are perhaps the most ergonomic option possible, because the sliding of the door being opened does not occur along the wall, but inside it!

The wall in this case is made of plasterboard, and requires partial redevelopment for mounting a U-shaped groove in the wall. The groove is best made of metal.

When installing a sliding door, do not forget about the correct position of the handle!

Such a door looks very interesting in the interior of any room and has useful property tightness compared to a conventional sliding door.

Roto doors

Roto doors are a kind of compromise between a swing door and a sliding door. The peculiarity of the roto-door is that in the process of opening the door leaf turns slightly and in the open position it becomes perpendicular to the doorway.

This type of opening allows open door take up less space and, like the design of a sliding door, it serves to save space in a small room or.

Roto doors have such advantages as soundproofing and airtightness and are the perfect solution for the bedroom!

Folding doors (accordion doors)

An interesting design solution to us is the design of folding doors.

An accordion door can perfectly fit into the interior of a living room or bedroom, as well as become an excellent option in terms of space zoning (for example, separating the bedroom from the dressing room).

Wood or plastic is often used as a material in the manufacture of accordion doors, but other options are also possible.

The design of a folding door is a connection of several elements using movable hinges, and one of the ends of such a door is equipped with rollers moving along a guide, as in the case of a classic sliding door.

The nuances of choice and design tricks

A single style or a riot of variety?

When choosing interior doors to an apartment, we are faced not only with the choice of material and type of opening, but also with the choice of style, which, as is often the case, must "combine the incongruous." What is it about? Let's tell you more.

If you are making repairs in a separate room and together with the interior design you want to change the door, you are faced with a task: how to choose a door that would at the same time fit the new interior of the bedroom or living room and fit into the corridor? However, this question also haunts those who create a design project for the future apartment.

After all, it often happens that on one living space in different rooms get along perfectly different styles! A bedroom in the style of delicate Provence, a living room in the Art Nouveau style with its natural motives, a laconic kitchen in the style of minimalism and a retro hallway - and each room has its own requirements not only for furniture and interior designbut also to the door!

Of course, if you plan to choose a single style for decorating an apartment, then you won't have to puzzle over how to fit the door into two interiors at the same time. If you decide not to go the easy way, then we can advise you to make custom-made interior doors - so you can arrange them on one side to match the design of the hallway, and on the inside - choose a finishing option that is more suitable for the chosen style of the room.

You can also choose doors in neutral colors and neutral designs, which will allow you to fit them into any interior of your choice without any questions!

High interior doors

We are used to standard doorways, on average, not reaching the ceiling 30-50 cm (depending on the height of your ceilings). However, designers are increasingly offering us interesting concepts using high doors in the interior - literally from the floor to the ceiling! What are the advantages of such structures, in addition to the unusual design solution?

  • High doors can visually enlarge the space of a small room and "raise" the ceilings.
  • The richness of choice of style solutions and shades can easily highlight the individuality of your design.
  • The originality of the appearance does not even need comment. Such doors are unusual period.

Self-installation of interior doors

Do-it-yourself installation of interior doors is not the easiest process, which, however, allows you to save a lot during the repair process.

Of course, the nuances of assembly and installation directly depend on the type of design you choose and a universal algorithm suitable for any case cannot be identified.

We have tried to collect for you video tutorials on installing interior doors different typesso that this process will give you as little trouble as possible! So, we suggest watching the video:

Consider a few of the most simple ways do the decor of interior doors with your own hands using scrap materials.

As you know, doors are not eternal, and anything can happen. For example, scratches, chips, cracks often appear on the door leaf. In this case, you can make repairs, replacements, or carefully decorate, hiding all defects.

We paste over the door with wallpaper

To decorate the door, you can use not only paper, vinyl and non-woven wallpaper, but also fabric or liquid.

In this case, the canvas should be prepared by removing the paint layer in advance, filling the irregularities, cracks and grinding the surface.

A layer of primer applied will provide additional adhesion of the wallpaper to the door surface.

Wallpaper can be pasted over both the entire canvas and panels, cutting out pieces of wallpaper of a suitable size. Do not forget to choose the glue suitable for the type of wallpaper and dilute it according to the instructions.

Classic wallpaper

We grease the cut wallpaper with glue and apply it to the door, making sure that no jams and distortions form. Smooth the wallpaper with a soft cloth, roller or wide plastic spatula. We carefully cut off the excess with a clerical knife. Additionally, you can decorate it by gluing a frame made of foam plinth over the wallpaper.

For the period of drying of the wallpaper, it is advisable to close the windows in the house and exclude the appearance of drafts, a sharp drop in temperature.

the cloth

The door decorated with fabric looks very unusual and attractive. In addition to standard surface preparation, attention should be paid to the fabric itself, finding out the degree of shrinkage.

Cut off a small piece of fabric, measure its dimensions, moisten with water and dry. After drying, we again make measurements, comparing the readings and finding out the degree of shrinkage. If the value is large, then we also moisten the entire piece of fabric before decorating and leave it to dry.

Note! You can use not only a single piece of fabric, but also cut pieces of different colors and textures. This technique is called "patchwork" and is often used by designers in the design of premises.

Casein glue, composition based on CMC, as well as “Bustilat” or “Gumilax” mastic is best suited for fabrics. Apply the adhesive to the fabric and apply it to the door, smoothing it with a spatula. When pasting the door with fragments, it is important to monitor their geometricity, otherwise the work will look sloppy.

Additionally, you can decorate the door with beautiful furniture nails, shiny nylon or leather cords, fabric paint, baguette frames.

- are universal. They cover not only walls, but also doors, creating unimaginable patterns and compositions. At the same time, you do not have to bother with cutting the canvases. However, it will not be possible to expose the door to moisture. Therefore, this method is unacceptable for decorating a door in a bathroom or kitchen.

For work, you will need a dry wallpaper mixture, several spatulas of different sizes, a hopper gun, a roller, transparent varnish, color scheme.

We decorate the door with a mirror

A very unusual door finish can be done using mirrors. Such decor will not only attract everyone's attention, but also visually expand the space of the room, add light. However, cutting and fixing a classic glass mirror is very inconvenient, since there is an alternative - acrylic panels with amalgam, which has excellent reflectivity.

Acrylic mirrors are available in a wide colors... You can choose any shade you like or several to make a mirror panel. Plastic panels do not break, are easily processed and attached to the door, and are lightweight. The cost of mirror plexiglass is not the lowest, but the quality and aesthetic qualities are fully consistent with the stated prices.

Before you attach the mirror plastic on, you should carefully level the surface by deepening the heads of the nails, sanding and covering all the irregularities / grooves with putty.

At the door and back side acrylic cloth without fail a deep penetration primer is applied. After drying, the cut panels are fixed with double-sided tape and assembly glue. For convenience, use mounting suction cups, with their help it is much easier to neatly glue the panels to the door leaf.

As one of the decoration options, you can consider curly acrylic mirrors. Such a mirror can be attached in the center of the door or you can purchase several elements and arrange them beautifully. Usually small parts are produced with an adhesive layer already applied.

Even from this simple materiallike buckwheat husks, excellent work is obtained. The cost of the material is minimal, but the service life of such a coating, unfortunately, cannot be called too long.

Step 1. Remove the layer from the door old paint, the existing vinyl covering, we eliminate all irregularities with a putty.

Step 2. Remove the door from its hinges and place it on the floor / stools / table. We paint the door leaf with dark brown paint. If there are glass inserts on the door, we protect them with masking tape.

Step 3. Densely grease the dried door with PVA glue, spread the husk, distributing it with your hands. Add fine gold sparkles if necessary.

Step 4. We cover the door with a transparent varnish (glossy or matte). It is advisable to apply three layers in order to properly fix buckwheat on the door leaf.

Beautiful door ready. So that the door does not knock out of the overall design of the room, decorate the picture frame in the same way and place the creation on one of the walls.

Decorating the door in vintage style

Vintage is sophistication and sophistication, the beauty of artificially aged things, in harmony with the chic of individual decorative elements. A door in vintage style will become a work of art, an exclusive element of the interior.

For decoration you will need:

We will combine door painting with decoupage technique and add decorative elements in addition. We will carry out the work on the door, already removed from the hinges, putty and carefully polished, laid horizontally.

Step 1. Paint the door white. Apply the paint with a wide brush with stiff bristles in one direction, in a thin layer.

Step 2. When the paint is dry, gently grind it with coarse sandpaper, achieving the "antiquity" effect.

Step 3. We proceed to decorate the panels or the central part of the door. We tear music notebooks and old newspapers into small pieces with our hands. Draw a rectangular or square activity field on the door with a pencil. Lubricate the outlined areas with PVA glue. Immediately lay out the paper randomly, smoothing it out with your hands. Apply transparent varnish on top in two layers.

Step 4. Along the perimeter of the areas covered with paper, we attach a black baguette with mounting glue.

Additionally, you can decorate with a beautiful wreath, a large lace bow or plastic beads imitating pearls (on an adhesive basis).

There are many other ways to decorate doors. Operate the materials available in your home arsenal, use your imagination and create your own masterpieces.

Quite recently, on occasion, I got to a master class widely known in our country, and even beyond its chapels, by the decorator Irina Dymova. She gave an example of a case that happened on one of her projects. She got a large spacious hall, also known as a living room, in country house... The problem was that at the end of this room there was a small door leading to the kitchen. Not only did the door not match the size of the hall, but it was also located somewhat to the side, not on the main centerline. Irina found several interesting solutions how to align space. Among other things, she made a false door, in which only one part of it was a passage (highlighted in red in the photo), and the rest was decor.

I liked this idea and decided to investigate what other way the doorway can be changed to make it appear larger, wider, taller, depending on the tasks of the decorator.

Add windows

A fairly common technique is to add small windows on the sides or top. If the door was as large as the entire door + window opening, it would be too heavy, bulky and expensive. And in this case, you can put a standard door.

Paint

The simplest and most affordable solution. Most importantly, this method, unlike the previous one, can be applied when the repair has already been completed. With the first method, such a number will not work, for it you need to expand the doorway, which means a lot of dirt and dust.

Make an overlay

Just as a headdress makes a person taller, so plinths, platbands, capitals, portals and other decorative elements, depending on which side they are attached to, make the opening either visually higher or wider.

This decor can also be attached after major repairs.

Add glass or mirror

Unlike the first point, here we are talking about an insert of glass or a mirror into the door leaf itself. If the design of the door allows it, this can be done even on an already installed door. The glazing beads that hold the panel are carefully pulled out, and a glass or mirror is installed in its place.

The effect, I think, is clear: glass / mirror adds depth to the doorway, and it psychologically seems larger.

Make a sliding door

Of course, the effect of an enlarged doorway will occur if the door moves from the outside, rather than retreating into the wall. Then the opening seems to become double. We see the passage itself and the sliding door. This creates the effect of a large double door.

Our perception is limited and easily deceived. If you do not have the ability to physically enlarge the space, you can visually resize it.

A fashionable trend in modern interior design is an interior opening that extends upward by 3-4 m, occupying the space from the upper to the lower ceiling of the room. It is designed to equip high door to the ceiling is a non-standard product that combines flawless functionality with interesting decoration options. Structures of this type are made using a special technology using:

  1. special strings integrated into the canvas to keep it perfectly vertical. Such components, in particular, are present in the structure of products of the Academy brand;
  2. hardy wear-resistant fittings. Swing doors are equipped with one or two more hinges, sliding doors are equipped with reinforced rollers designed for significant loads;
  3. boxes are usually made of high-strength but lightweight aluminum. The metal support element makes the high interior doors stiff and stable up to the ceiling, and also emphasizes their unique style.

Current model design options

Custom height door , as a rule, is a smooth canvas without burdening decorative elements. Moreover, some solutions of this kind do not even involve the installation of platbands. They are fixed flush with the wall, creating the effect of a single, immaculately flat plane.

At the same time, you can buy a high door to the ceiling in various finishes, whether:

  • primer for painting. The design, devoid of a final look, has an undoubted advantage - the ability to adapt to the needs of the most outstanding interior. It can be simply processed with enamel of the shade you like, masked with wallpaper, turned into a stylish bright panel, decorated with fabric, tiles, etc .;
  • enamel, including those with an expressive glossy effect. The dyed product perfectly fits into the minimalist ensemble and pleases with decent practicality;
  • natural veneer, the natural beauty of which creates an interesting contrast with the emphasized laconicism of high interior doors to the ceiling.

Models are made not onlymade of wood , but also made of super-resistant glass. The peculiarity of translucent solutions is that even with very large dimensions, they retain their airiness, eliminating the risk of overloading the room. In ultra-fashionable interiors, both visually permeable products that do not hide the view, and options that have been matted, toned, and stained harmoniously sound.

What are the advantages of large sashes?

A high ceiling-to-ceiling door purchased from Academy at a bargain price will help:

  • visually enlarge the territory;
  • equip a room of any size. A laconic model, combined with a sliding mechanism, will not burden even a limited space;
  • visually raise the upper floor, making the room higher, freer, more solemn;
  • ensure unhindered passage through the opening for people of large stature.

Despite the large size, well-made and installed canvases are easy to use.

- this is a diagnosis, sounds like a sentence. They also say that doors above 2-2.20 do not exist. We got used to living low, without the flight of the soul :). Baths without windows, 2.50 ceilings, 60 cm wide toilets ... etc. These habits are ingrained, it is difficult to wean.

I try to deal with this to the best of my modest possibilities ... It takes a long time to convince each new customer to abandon stereotypes and take a fresh look at their home. For example, to make doorways at least 2.40 (in this case, the canvases are 2.30), or even better, to cut the wall completely to the ceiling, leaving a wall for the installation of decorative molding ... will make the space more mobile ...

And now, a small digest of materials about our projects that used this interesting technique.

Such verticals in the interior will create a sense of splendor of the room ... and it does not matter what the existing ceiling is - 2.50 or 3 meters. Such doors will effectively fit into any interior. When they are open, different spaces are combined, a feeling of enfilade is created, the depth of the room ...

How to order such a miracle?

Doors are always made to order, they cost significantly more than standard doors, but the effect of them will be the most noticeable. If at the same time you place the curtain rods at the same maximum height above the windows, add a ceiling molding that will "go to the ceiling" no one without a tape measure will never determine the true heights of the room ...

Doors, as well as matching decorative wall panels, are made by our carpenters according to the designs of the interior designers. An order can be made by contacting our studio.
