Making a closet in the toilet with your own hands: ideas, diagrams, manufacturing instructions. Toilet Shelves - Create extra storage space for the little things you need by spending a couple of hours Corner shelf in the toilet

Effective use of the interior space of a home is important for owners of apartments with a small area. If you have a shortage of usable volume in the house, pay attention to the empty space behind the toilet above the cistern. It can be used to accommodate containers of chemicals and cleaning accessories.

You can make a do-it-yourself closet in the toilet using our guide. Let's talk about the manufacturing methods and waterproof materials that are available on the market. The instructions describe step by step the process of installing the frame and assembling doors with expert comments.

Types of closets in the toilet

When planning your bathroom storage, you have a choice between wall-mounted and built-in wardrobes. Both options fit nicely into the interior, but they are manufactured and mounted in different ways.

Hinged is manufactured completely with all walls. The cabinet box is hung on the wall behind the toilet with hinges on hooks. Metal lugs are attached to the vertical walls from the back of the case. Special dowels with bent ends are installed as hooks. The best option is to fasten the locker to the rail with the hook brackets.

The design of the built-in wardrobe compares favorably with the hanging furniture in that the walls and ceiling of the toilet act as the top plate and sides. A front frame with doors and a bottom (if necessary) are attached to them. In addition to swing doors, you can install roller shutters.

If you have absolutely no experience in this business, and the desire to make a wardrobe yourself overwhelms you - ask for help from neighbors and friends who already have practice in the manufacture and assembly of furniture.

What to make of?

For the manufacture of a cabinet case of small dimensions (in a narrow sanitary cabin, a small-sized box will fit), you can use the following materials:

  • MDF and chipboard;
  • furniture board;
  • pVC panels;
  • LDVP.

If you are doing self-made furniture, then you probably have in stock pieces of MDF or chipboard. It will be convenient to make a cabinet body of them. To do this, you can use an old tabletop or parts of a disassembled wardrobe.

Furniture panels are solid (this is when the plate is assembled from strips of the same length) and spliced. Purchase a shield and remove all body parts from it.

You can choose a type-setting plate according to your taste in Leroy Merlin stores. Not only the basic material is sold there, but also all related accessories.

PVC panels are ideal for high humidity conditions. Bathrooms "suffer" from this drawback. Vinyl panels will not make you difficult to cut parts. Use duralumin corners and screws with nuts to fasten the elements together. From several PVC panels, you can assemble lightweight cabinet doors.

You will need laminated fibreboard to make the back of your cabinet. It is fastened along the perimeter of the ends from the back of the case with screws.

Three variants of the closet in the toilet behind the toilet

We offer you three options for arranging furniture construction in a sanitary cabin. Let us present each option in the form step by step instructions... Of course, to implement any project, you need to be able to handle the tools.

Guide for the manufacture and installation of a wall cabinet made of MDF

Prepare the room in which you will work. If you have a home workshop, half the battle is already done. Getting started:

1. Prepare necessary tool:

2. Prepare the following materials:

  • mDF sheet;
  • end tape;
  • lDVP sheet;
  • metal tire and hook brackets;
  • screws;
  • dowels (wooden dowels);
  • shelf supports (metal bushings);
  • pVA glue;
  • jigsaw files;
  • dowels;
  • confirmations (euro screws);
  • plastic plugs for euro screws;
  • furniture overhead hinges;
  • door handles.

3. Draw a sketch of the future cabinet on a piece of paper. Separately draw the top and bottom plate, sidewalls, shelves and door panels with dimensions.

Council. In order not to suffer with calculations, measure the kitchen wall cabinet. Adjust the height of the side walls, the width of the shelves and other parts to the dimensions of the furniture installation site.

4. Make a specification of all parts and fittings. As an example, a table will help you:

Name Size, mm Material Quantity, pcs.
Top plate 628 x 330 MDF 1
Base 628 x 330 — « — 1
Sidewalls 1210 x 330 — « — 2
Back wall 1210 x 660 LDVP 1
Shelves 628 x 330 MDF 2
Doors 1210 x 330 — « — 2
Dowels 20 Wood 8
Confirmates 50 x 6.4 Metal 8
Overhead hinges — « — 4
Self-tapping screws 4 x 16 — « — 16
Shelf bushings Ø 5 — « — 8
Metal tire 600 x 60 — « — 1
Hook brackets 70 x 50 x 25 Combined 2
Door handles Plastic or metal 2

5. The plan is ready, go to hardware store for materials and accessories.

6. Cutting out parts from MDF is better to do on the desktop.

7. Cover the ends of the finished parts with plastic tape using an iron. Iron the end tape attached to the cut sides of the panels through the paper.

8. On the side walls, mark the installation of the sleeve-shelf supports. Drill holes 5 mm in diameter and deep.

9. Insert the shelf supports by tapping lightly with a rubber mallet until the grooves of the bushings rest against the panel.

10. At the bottom and top of the sidewalls, drill holes for the dowels. Drill the same depressions in the upper and lower plate.

11. Lay the walls and slabs face down on the floor or workbench.

12. Insert wooden dowels into the seats, after filling the holes with PVA glue.

13. Connect the panels into a single box.

14. Make holes with a confirmatory drill, drilling the walls and ends of the plates at an equal distance and from the edges of the sides (60 - 70 mm).

15. Tightening the euro screws with a knob, pull off all the body parts.

16. From the rear side, in the upper corners, screw the hook brackets.

17. Place the box with the back side up. After checking the equality of the diagonals of the outer corners of the case, screw the back wall with the screws.

Remember to install the back panel with the laminated side inside the cabinet. First you need to make slots for the brackets.

18. In the door leaves, cut with an end mill. It is better to do this in advance - before assembling the case. Insert canopies into them and fix them with self-tapping screws through the mounting holes. On the sidewalls, screw the overhead hinge parts. Connect the parts by adjusting the gaps with the set screws.

19. Install furniture handles from below.

20. Using a level, make markings for the dowels for the bus. Use a puncher to drill two holes. Nail the tire with dowels.

21. Hang the cabinet on the wall in such a way that the teeth of the bracket catch on the bar.

22. Fix the cabinet with the adjusting screws of the hooks.

23. Insert the shelves by supporting them on the bushings. The cabinet is ready to be filled.

Instruction for the manufacture and assembly of the built-in wardrobe

Let's install the initial data:

  • We will take the width of the toilet 1.2 m, therefore, this length will be at the shelves and the bottom of the cabinet.
  • The height of the bathroom will be assumed to be 2.5 m. The distance from the lid of the cistern to the floor will be 730 mm. This means that the height of the cabinet will be 2.5 - 0.7 = 1.8 m. 4 shelves can be installed inside.
  • The distance from the tank to the wall will be 400 mm.

Based on these data, we will proceed to the manufacture and installation of built-in furniture in the toilet behind the toilet.

1. On the side walls, make markings for fastening the shelves based on the distance between the shelves 350 mm.

2. Drive in support corners or timber pieces with dowels. Lay down the shelves. They can be cut from MDF, chipboard or old countertops.

If the riser passes through inner space cabinet, then in the shelves and base with a jigsaw, make cutouts for the sewer pipe.

3. Build a frame from a 50 x 50 mm bar, connecting the frame with self-tapping screws. The height of the posts is 2.1 m. The width of the crossbars is 1.1 m.

4. To the side posts and top bar fasten the mounting metal corners with screws.

5. Install the frame by nailing the corners to the walls and ceiling with dowels.

6. Fasten the bottom of the cabinet (it can be made of the same material as the shelves) to the horizontal cross member with screws, and nail the corners that you screwed in advance to the wall with dowels.

7. Hang the doors on single or piano hinges to the vertical bar of the frame. Previously for the furniture hinges with a chisel, cut out the seats on the frame and doors. Screw the hinges with self-tapping screws using a screwdriver or screwdriver.

8. Screw on doorknobs... The built-in wardrobe is ready.

In some cases, a built-in sanitary cabinet is arranged at the full height of the bathroom. A blank panel is placed behind the tank. The lower shelf is not mounted, creating a lower compartment for storing various long items.

Instead of hinged doors, you can install roller shutters over the entire height of the room. It will be more expensive, but building such a cabinet is much easier:

  • after installing the shelves, fix the guide shutters behind the toilet bowl to the side walls with dowels and screws;
  • attach a drum with a folded cloth to the ceiling;
  • pull the side edges of the roller shutters into the longitudinal slots of the vertical posts.

For an interesting example of mounting a blinds system, see the video:

Concealed cabinet device behind the toilet

If you decide to tile the walls of the toilet with ceramic tiles, then the best option would be to create a hidden cabinet.

  1. Install a pair of timber racks on each side with a distance of 300 - 350 mm between them.
  2. Attach plywood sheets to the uprights with screws.
  3. Install shelves inside the niche.
  4. Attach a reinforced polymer or metal mesh to the walls. This can be done with a stapler.
  5. Drive the staples every 40 - 50 mm.
  6. Hang the plywood sheets on the piano hinges.
  7. Attach the mesh to the doors too.
  8. Cover all the resulting planes with ceramic tiles with special glue.
  9. Make holes in the lower corners of the doors with a ceramic drill.
  10. Screw on the handles. Choose such models that would be invisible against the general background of the ceramic coating.
  11. Screw the magnetic holders to the bottom shelf and the back of the doors.

The design of a technical cabinet in a hidden form will not disturb the beautiful interior of the bathroom.

Doors

Door leaves can be made from any sheet materials. Consider their advantages and disadvantages in the following table:

Door material Advantages disadvantages
PVC panels Lightweight material. Cut with a simple hacksaw. Manufacturing requires the creation of a support frame.
MDF and chipboard Durable slabs. Withstand heavy loads. They have a pleasant appearance. The open ends can become saturated with moisture, which will lead to the destruction of the structure of the panels (the slab will swell).
Glass and mirror They have high aesthetic qualities. Fragility. They are not used for toilet decoration.
Plywood Durable material. Afraid of moisture. Requires additional moisture-proof treatment.
Furniture board The lacquered panels highlight the natural beauty of the wood structure. Also.
Drywall GKL sheets are easy to process. Fragility. Requires pasting with moisture-proof film coatings.

Conclusion

In the article, I proposed several options for manufacturing and assembling cabinets in the washroom. The basic provisions for designing and calculating furniture located in the space behind the toilet are given. Weigh your possibilities, let your imagination run wild, view the types of structures of this type. I am sure that you can make such furniture with your own hands, which will delight your family and pleasantly surprise your guests. To connect plumbing fixtures to the water supply network, a flexible water pipe is used. It is in demand when connecting mixers, showers, toilets and other points of water intake, and greatly simplifies the installation process. Flexible hose also applies during installation gas equipment... It differs from similar devices for water in manufacturing technology and special safety requirements.

Characteristics and types

Flexible hose for connecting plumbing is a hose of different lengths made of non-toxic synthetic rubber. Due to the elasticity and softness of the material, it easily takes the desired position and allows installation in hard-to-reach places... To protect the flexible hose, there is an upper reinforcing layer in the form of a braid, which is made of the following materials:

  • Aluminum. Such models can withstand no more than +80 ° C and retain functionality for 3 years. At high humidity, the aluminum braid is prone to rust.
  • Of stainless steel. Thanks to this reinforcing layer, the service life of the flexible water hose is at least 10 years, and the maximum temperature of the transported medium is +95 ° C.
  • Nylon. This braid is used for the manufacture of reinforced models that withstand temperatures up to +110 ° C and are designed for intensive use for 15 years.

As fasteners, nut-nut and nut-union pairs are used, which are made of brass or stainless steel. Adaptations with different indicators permissible temperature differ in the color of the braid. Blue are used to connect to a pipeline with cold waterand the red ones are hot.

When choosing a water liner, you need to pay attention to its elasticity, reliability of fasteners and purpose. It is also mandatory to have a certificate that excludes the emission of toxic components by rubber during operation.

Features of gas connections

When connected gas stoves, speakers and other types of equipment also use flexible hoses. Unlike water models, they are yellow and do not pass environmental testing. End steel or aluminum reinforcement is used for fixing. There are the following types of devices for connecting gas appliances:

  • pVC hoses reinforced with polyester thread;
  • made of synthetic rubber with stainless steel braid;
  • bellows, made in the form of a corrugated stainless steel tube.

Drainage - irrigation and drainage measures to remove excess groundwater.

If water does not leave the territory of the site for a long time, the soil becomes gleamed, if the shrubs and trees quickly disappear (soak), it is necessary to urgently take measures and drain the site.

Reasons for waterlogging

There are several reasons for waterlogging:

  • clayey heavy soil structure with poor water permeability;
  • the aquiclude in the form of gray-green and red-brown clays is located close to the surface;
  • high occurrence of groundwater;
  • man-made factors (construction of roads, pipelines, various objects) that impede natural drainage;
  • violation of the water balance by the construction of irrigation systems;
  • the landscape plot is located in the lowland, gully, hollow. In this case, precipitation and water inflow from higher places play an important role.

What is the risk of excess moisture in the soil

You can see the results of this phenomenon yourself - trees and shrubs die. Why is this happening?

  • the oxygen content in the soil decreases and the carbon dioxide content increases, which leads to a violation of the air exchange processes, the water regime and the diet in the soil;
  • oxygen starvation of the root-forming layer occurs, which leads to the death of plant roots;
  • the intake of macro and microelements by plants (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, etc.) is disturbed, because excess water washes away mobile forms of elements from the soil, and they become inaccessible for assimilation;
  • there is an intensive breakdown of proteins and, accordingly, putrefaction processes are activated.

Plants can tell you what level the groundwater is at

Take a closer look at the flora of your site. The species inhabiting it will tell you at what depth the groundwater layers are located:

  • top water - at this place it is best to dig a reservoir;
  • at a depth of 0.5 m - marigold, horsetails, varieties of sedges - vesicular, holly, fox, Langsdorf reed grass grow;
  • at a depth of 0.5 m to 1 m - meadowsweet, canary grass,;
  • from 1 m to 1.5 m - favorable conditions for meadow fescue, bluegrass, mouse peas, ranks;
  • from 1.5 m - wheatgrass, clover, wormwood, plantain.

What is important to know when planning the drainage of the site

Each group of plants has its own moisture needs:

  • at a depth of groundwater from 0.5 to 1 m, vegetables and annual flowers can grow in high beds;
  • the depth of the water layer up to 1.5 m is well tolerated by vegetables, cereals, annuals and perennials (flowers), ornamental and fruit and berry shrubs, trees on a dwarf rootstock;
  • if the groundwater is at a depth of more than 2 m, fruit trees can be grown;
  • optimal depth of groundwater for agriculture - from 3.5 m.

Do you need drainage of the site

Write down your observations at least for a while. You yourself can understand how much drainage is needed.

Maybe it makes sense to just redirect melt and sedimentary water along a bypass channel, rather than letting them flow through your site?

Perhaps it is necessary to design and equip a storm drain and improve the composition of the soil and this will be enough?

Or is it worth doing drainage system only for fruit and ornamental trees?

The exact answer will be given to you by a specialist, whom we strongly recommend calling. But after reading this article, you will gain some awareness of this issue.

Toilet décor: 7 ways to make the bathroom the most unbearable place in your apartment and 7 steps to turn it into the perfect room for "thinking"

The dressing room is very often undeservedly left without proper attention in terms of design beautiful design ... Only a toilet bowl and monotonous bare walls of a hospital shade. It is with this "landscape" that you have to start the day, which leaves its mark of dullness on it. It is he who is contemplated by the guests just at the moment when you cannot distract them with a conversation, and this "works" not in favor of increasing the authority of the hosts.

Personally, at home, I decided to change the situation, which I will tell about in this article.

How not to do

First of all, I want to start my story with the fact that I saw something wrong in the bathrooms of different apartments that I happened to visit. So if you want to scare away guests and also think you deserve a daily penance in the form of visiting the "sadness and sorrow" room, then here are 7 excellent ways to achieve this:

Method number 1: light monotony

It is well known that light colors visually increase the space. And it seems that this is it - a solution for small bathrooms! But in practice, it turns out that a small toilet in this case becomes completely uncomfortable, flat and lifeless, reminiscent of hospital wards. Diluting this uniformity will revive the interior and make it more friendly.

An exceptionally black toilet is also not worth doing, since in addition to the problems described, it will also "squeeze" the room.

Method number 2: excessive contrast

Making one half of a tiny room, for example, light green, and the other pink, means giving yourself a migraine or at least a feeling of anxiety while visiting it. This approach only works in large rooms., although even there the combination of contrasts should be approached very carefully.

It would be much more correct to use metered inserts or borders to destroy boring uniformity, which I will dwell on in more detail when I describe the repair I did myself.

Method number 3: dark ceiling

Stretch ceiling? Fine, perfect solution... LED spotlights? I have set the same. Black color? Why spoil everything? A noticeable deviation from the walls in the color spectrum towards darkening leads to the fact that the room immediately begins to be perceived lower than it really is, causing a feeling of impending threat... In this case, you don't want to linger on the toilet for a long time.

Method number 4: an overabundance of drawings

Two options should be highlighted here:

  1. The use of large images that visually bring the base on which they are applied, thereby making the room seem to be smaller. This method can make a spacious living room more comfortable, but in order to achieve a similar effect with a toilet, I do not know what size it should be;
  2. Application of many small patterns. If large objects narrow the space, then it is logical to assume that small ones, on the contrary, expand it. But here, again, you need to remember about the area of the bathroom: all such drawings will appear right in front of you, creating an unpleasant ripple. Although I should note that everything is not so simple here and sometimes it turns out to pick up a winning combination.

It is better to leave intricate ornaments in general for rooms with suitable dimensions.... If you really really want to decorate the "room of thought" in this way, then hang a panel in it, I even saw a self-portrait behind the toilet in one house, which, of course, is not for everybody, but it is quite acceptable from a design point of view.

Method number 5: "throne" in the center

The standard layout involves the installation of a toilet in the middle of the wall farthest from the door, which is why two unused areas are formed on its sides... Of course, you can put a brush there or something else incredibly "important", but it is better to try to rearrange the entire structure to the side or even to a corner, and you will be pleasantly surprised by the free space that appears and the opportunities it provides.

Method number 6: fur and textiles

Soft fur rugs and cute fabric covers are such a wonderful decoration of the bathroom, especially in the photographs. In the process of operation, they very quickly lose their external beauty, and also carry additional problems:

  • Turn the cleaning process into a complex action for cleaning such delicate materials;
  • Violate basic hygiene rules, as they are an excellent environment for the accumulation and reproduction of pathogenic bacteria.

Method number 7: a huge amount of accessories

Place a bookcase, artificial or natural flowers in vases, cleaning products and many other small items around the toilet to feel like a participant in the Fort Boyard show every time you visit the toilet. If you are still going to use the bathroom for its intended purpose, then all accessories must be dosed hard, adhering to minimalism.

How can you do

So, now I will describe to you my own approach to decorating a toilet. It is not necessary to do everything exactly, but the general course of action is worth adhering to if you want to turn your small bathroom into a comfortable and pleasant place for "reflection", which will be appreciated by your family members and guests.

Step number 1: selection of finishing materials

The bathroom makes its own requirements for finishing, among which in the first place:

Demand Comments
Hygiene Remember that this is a sanitary zone, so the walls, floor and ceiling should not contribute to the accumulation of any dirt
Easy care Based on the previous paragraph, we can make an absolutely correct conclusion that the room needs frequent and thorough cleaning, and finishing materials should not interfere with this.
Moisture resistance Most of the cleaning will be done with a wet method, and the toilet itself is a rather damp room, so this factor should also be taken into account.
Resistance to household chemicals In the bathroom, periodic disinfection must be carried out, and the finish must be ready to endure such harsh treatment

Guided by the above requirements, I made the following decisions:

  1. Floor. Laid out with ceramic tiles. It fits perfectly on all counts and comes in an incredibly wide range of shapes and colors. I discarded the boards right away because of their notorious hydrophobicity. But as an alternative, I was still considering the jellied floor, which also has high operational characteristicsbut I preferred not to "spray" and dwell on the same material for the floor and for the walls;

  1. Walls. Here I, as already noted in the previous paragraph, also chose ceramics. But there are reasons why this option may not work for you, so consider it well:
    • Quite a high price. If you can't save too much money on the floor, then much cheaper washable wallpaper or waterproof paint can be used here, although, of course, in practicality they are noticeably inferior;

    • Reduced usable space. Tiles need an absolutely flat and smooth base, and rarely any walls adequately meet these requirements. As a result, they have to be pre-aligned, which can “eat” several precious centimeters on each side, and this is quite noticeable for a small bathroom;

    • The complexity of the installation. Tiling work on your own is much more difficult than, for example, painting a wall or wallpapering;

If you are in doubt about your abilities, then it is better to invite a professional tiler to do the finishing work. The cost of his services will cost you less than a damaged interior.

  1. Ceiling. Sheathed with plastic. It is easy to keep clean and perfectly conceals any irregularities and electrical wiring that plaster or paint cannot handle. A good option may become also stretch ceiling, which will also provide protection from flooding from above, but it will cost more and require the participation of specialists during installation.

Step # 2: masking communications

In my bathroom, at the wall opposite the door, there are pipes, counters and stop valves, which previously did not create the best visual impression, or rather, simply terrible. So I decided to sew them up by analogy with the plastic ceiling, fortunately, among the enormous variety of PVC panels, it was easy to find models suitable for the rest of the interior.

Be sure to not forget to install an inspection door in the installed partition, so that you can access the taps and meters, as well as monitor the state of the pipeline.

If, for example, your toilet has only one pipe in the corner, then can be limited to a box in order to save free space:

Step number 3: compact placement of plumbing

What was before the change located in the “thinking room” of my apartment? It:

  • The toilet itself;
  • A holder for toilet paper, which, incidentally, can have an interesting and unusual shape;

  • Stand for brush.

But if move the toilet a little to the side or even to a corner, then "magically" there will be a free space where you can install a small and a mirror:

Thus, the bathroom begins to look not only more comfortable and attractive, but also increases its functionality. After all, now in order to wash your hands and put yourself in order, you do not need to go to the bathroom. And due to the reflection effect that has appeared, you can also safely talk about the visual expansion of the room.

An interesting addition can be a hygienic shower, which takes up very little space, but will make personal care even more comfortable.

Step number 4: the organization of lighting

The former lonely lamp above the door was mercilessly removed by me, since the twilight it induced always had a somewhat depressing effect on me. Instead, I drilled four holes in the plastic ceiling and installed LED spotlights in them, connecting to the network. As a result, the toilet received abundant, but at the same time non-cutting eyes.

I also recommend installing a motion sensor instead of the classic switch. This will not only make visiting the bathroom more comfortable, but also exclude cases where the light accidentally stays on, in vain "shaking" the counter.

It is better to refuse from sconces, wall lamps and chandeliers, since they “steal” by themselves even a small space, and also hang unpleasantly, causing conflicting feelings in the process of “reflection”.

Step number 5: color solutions

The choice of color is a very important point in decoration. It is not worth making the decoration monotonous, as I already wrote about, it is best to choose some cold shade that will visually "push apart" the walls, and dilute it with bright inserts, thereby making the interior more welcoming.

Although many people prefer classic monochrome, when the bottom is made dark and the top is light, that also looks good:

By the way, it is very convenient to choose the color according to Feng Shui, since here Chinese philosophy is almost completely in solidarity with the advice of modern designers:

As you can see, for example, the golden toilet will look pretentious and will not give you the opportunity to relax, but interspersing such a color in the decoration or its predominance on accessories will look quite organic.

Although black is considered unfavorable, and white should not take up much space, in combination they can create a good composition:

Step 6: visually increase the space

In addition to choosing color combinations, you can successfully apply more several methods of visual expansion of the area small toilet:

  1. During the tiling process, you can create accent areas with mosaic, stained glass or pebbles. They will serve as a kind of beacons for the eyes, due to which the distance between them will seem larger;
  2. Some areas can decorate with vinyl stickers for the same purpose as indicated in the first paragraph;
  3. If a large mirror does not fit in your toilet in any way even after rearranging the toilet, then you can install several mirror tiles, which will create the necessary effect of "falling into the depth";
  4. Install the shelf higherso that the necessary accessories sit comfortably on it, without taking up space next to the toilet.

Step 7: finishing touches

How to decorate the toilet with additional elements? Here you should be careful not to overload a small room, both visually and operationally. For this, I want to consider some commonly used tricks:

  • Flowerpot with a plant. You may have previously been professionally engaged in gymnastics and now easily maneuver around such an obstacle while visiting the bathroom, but your guests may not have such useful skills, and just imagine the embarrassment that will happen if one of them accidentally throws your jewelry in the most crucial moment. Have indulgence;

  • A small painting behind the "throne" or on the side of the wall. Why not? Especially if your overall interior is too monotonous, then a colorful panel will favorably dilute it;

  • A toilet paper holder and brush with stand in the same style is a great stylistic move, to which you can add a towel holder.

  • Whatnot above the cistern. I’m not sure of the advisability of such a decision, since it threatens to turn the bathroom into a utility room.

Conclusion

Do not neglect the interior of the toilet, considering this room unworthy of your close attention. After all, you, as a rule, even start the day with it. Also, don't forget about the guests. They will most likely not get into the bedroom, but they will definitely go into the bathroom and appreciate all its pros and cons.

So familiarize yourself with what you can’t do and what you can, and then put in order a decent order in the "room of thought" of your apartment or house.

The video in this article will give you the opportunity to join additional information regarding the presented materials. If you have any questions on the topic, ask them in the comments.

Getting the long-awaited apartment in a new building, moving to another house, or when planning repairs in an old familiar place, the first thing you pay attention to is, of course, the usable area. Namely, its size. I really want every centimeter of the area intended for housing to be involved. In every house there are things that I would not want to flaunt. For example, rolls of toilet paper “in reserve”, all kinds of jars with toiletries, cleaning products, panicles, rags, etc. The question arises: how to make a closet in the toilet with your own hands?

Many will agree that a closet for a toilet is a rather useful, practical piece of furniture for such a room.

There are many options for such solutions. It is necessary to take into account the design features of such a cabinet.

A beautiful design will allow you to add a twist to the interior, plus provide the necessary functionality.

One way or another, it is better to make the facade from chipboard in order to achieve an attractive appearance of the structure.

The main ones are:

  • material intended for use in sanitary facilities (must be moisture resistant);
  • providing free access to control levers for equipment, which is usually located in bathrooms, water consumption meters, valves for hot and cold water, ventilation duct, sewer pipe fastening);
  • the size of the built-in closet in the toilet, because it must be precisely integrated into the dimensions of the room, which are often complex geometric shapes, especially in old houses;
  • the integration of a sanitary cabinet in the overall interior of the apartment, its harmonious design solution;
  • cabinet design, involving the maximum number of shelves;
  • reliability of fastenings.

The options for using a lot of cabinets, you just have to choose exactly how you will use the free space of shelves, drawers and other elements.

If desired, and the availability of money, these sheets can be sheathed, covered with decorative films, decorated to your taste.

Before you begin, you need to draw up a plan, take measurements and draw a plan of a plumbing cabinet in its actual size on a sheet of paper. The plan is needed from the facade and from the side. In it, it is necessary to take into account the number and size of the shelves, as well as choose the option and places of fasteners. You need to think about how to make a closet for the toilet with your own hands step by step, write a short instruction plan in order not to subsequently redo the already formed material.

Before proceeding directly to the assembly itself, you should decide on the materials that will be used in the assembly of the cabinet.

We take serious fasteners into the wall.

Choose material

What is the best way to make a cabinet, doors, shelves, than the hatch will be closed, shelf holder structures? The hatch, for example, can be made of plastic, this is an economical and practical option, but a built-in hatch under the tiles will look more aesthetically pleasing - this will make it almost invisible.

If the objects are heavy, it is better to use laminated particleboard.

Not every ready-made toilet cabinet matches the availability of free space, wishes or requirements of the client.

If you hang a mirror in the place of the hatch, it will disappear from the angle of view; if it is decorated with modern artificial materials, for example, stone or tiles with bright ornaments, then this can become a particularly attractive composition. There are many options!

Obviously, it is not difficult to purchase a ready-made closet for the toilet, just like installing it.

Calculate the dimensions accurately so that the installation does not manifest obvious problems.

It is better to choose the material from which the doors can be made based on the design of the room. Suitable wood, ceramic tile, plastic, chipboard, MDF, laminate, metal, etc. The main thing is to provide waterproofing.

You will be satisfied with the work done, you will have something to be proud of, plus you will be able to create exactly the furniture that is ideal for your particular case.

Blinds can serve as a budget option. They are easy to install, lightweight, easy to dismantle and change. Also the easiest way to use the space above the toilet is to install regular shelves. This will require bars, corners, screws and the shelf itself, cut to the size of the opening or slightly smaller. The depth of the shelf is calculated separately depending on the design features of the place behind the toilet.

Preparing to create a do-it-yourself closet for the toilet begins with design.

For those who are used to more expensive materials, you can successfully use glass. Since moisture accumulates in the sanitary room, it is better to choose tinted glass with a matte finish. When cutting glass, it is imperative to process the edge of the glass with special grinding so that all edges are smooth. It may also be interesting to get a variant of a metal sanitary cabinet. Designers like to use such material when designing loft-style interiors.

The frame is made of bars measuring 30 by 30 millimeters. Try to make all the markings smoothly, using level and tape measure.

An interesting material for cladding the facade of a dressing cabinet is a mirror. It has an amazing property to expand the space, which may be relevant for small bathrooms. In addition, the refraction of light through a mirror prism can play interestingly in the overall interior.

Mark the wall where you plan to install the cabinet.

When using wood, you need to take into account that it easily absorbs moisture and the prepared material must be covered with a special protective coating before installation.

From the cut bars, assemble the frame by connecting the elements together with the corners, with screws.

When making a ceramic cabinet, you first need to make a frame of bars, sheathe it with moisture-resistant drywall and glue ceramic tiles.

Shelves are most conveniently mounted to the wall on an aluminum corner profile of 25x25 mm.

Shelves can be made open or closed, located inside the structure. When installing the shelves, it is necessary to take into account the height of the standard detergent packages, roll paper blocks, the height of the holder for floor rags and other toilet and household accessories. It is better to strive to make such a design so that everything that needs to be hidden can harmoniously fit into niches. You should not make shelves at the same distance between themselves and strive for a symmetrical structure of shelves in the filling of the cabinet. It is better to measure the distance for their fixtures in accordance with the existing standard set of things intended for storage in the toilet.

Making and assembling a cabinet in a toilet with your own hands is unthinkable without the appropriate tools.

Some structural elements, for example, false panels, can be purchased ready-made in specialized stores. In this case, the dimensions of the structural elements of the plumbing cabinet must be adjusted to the size of the previously purchased facade elements.

However, before starting any cutouts, it is necessary to calculate the position of the shelves - the pipes are by no means vertical and the holes are made to specific sizes for each shelf.

For work, we need the following tools and materials

  • level and tape measure;
  • screwdriver and screwdriver with self-tapping screws;
  • electric drill;
  • jigsaw;
  • covering material for plumbing and flooring to keep the work area clean.

Of course, a closet in a toilet cannot be called complete if it does not have doors and fittings.

As accessories you may need:

  • loops;
  • magnets
  • door handles;
  • furniture corners, false panels;
  • fasteners;
  • furniture corners, etc.

Take measurements for the doors, cut blanks under them.

Fittings are best purchased from good manufacturers, since this is an actively used part of the design and all mechanisms must be reliable in operation.

As you can see, making a closet in the toilet with your own hands is not so difficult as it might seem.

Door handles can be integrated, made of aluminum profiles. They differ from ordinary handles in their place of attachment and appearance. They are a long thin aluminum strip mounted in the upper end of the door, usually they are made along the entire length of the upper end of the door. Thus, they seem to "disappear" from general view facade, besides, it is quite easy to care for such a flat door surface, since it has no protrusions. And for the installation of standard handles, you need to drill through the holes in the front doors and the handles are protruding, visually create a rather bright accent.

Of course, the doors can be made not only from wood or chipboard. As an alternative, roller shutters are characterized by practicality and modern design.

Separately, it must be said that before installing the closet in the toilet, it is better to take care in advance and check the condition of the plumbing networks. It may be necessary to carry out their prevention, eliminate possible weak spotsthat can lead to leaks, replace valves, gaskets.

Plus, if you have tiles in the toilet, you can use simple sheets of plywood, which are then pasted over with the same tiles that are mounted on the walls of the bathroom.

The back wall in the toilet: finishing rules

This article is about how you can arrange the back wall in a toilet or combined bathroom. In it, I will give several options for finishing and using the wall, and also share my thoughts on when it is possible to hide the risers of water supply and sewerage, and when this is completely contraindicated.

General information

For Soviet-built houses, the most typical layout of the toilet is with water supply and sewerage risers located at the back wall. Steel pipes rust over time, even with regular painting, perennial layers of paint are a dubious decoration of the bathroom.

Time does not treat a cast-iron sewer pipe so mercilessly, however, even after 20 - 40 years of service, it rarely shines with beauty. In such conditions, the temptation to hide the risers is understandable by building a light partition between them and the toilet.

Partition? Dismiss

What is this instruction related to? There are several reasons.

Solid baffle means complete lack of ventilation. Without it, condensation will form on the cold water riser (water vapor perfectly penetrates through drywall and aerated concrete, which are usually used to create a partition). Constant contact with moisture will greatly reduce the service life of the steel pipe.

Moreover, it is unlikely that your neighbors from below will be pleased with the wet spot that has appeared on the ceiling and the plaster that has begun to peel off.

In addition, the partition will have to be dismantled when need for access to risers.

There are a lot of reasons for this:

  • Steel pipes periodically leak - along the seam of an electric-welded pipe, in a thin area welded joint or simply where the pipe has been exposed to moisture the longest;
  • There is such a thing as the planned replacement of risers and water supply pipes. Sooner or later, friendly plumbers will come to you and, when they see, they will be upset and say many offensive words about the unlucky builder;
  • Sewer bells are often destroyed under the weight of the pipe resting on them. In this case, the replacement of the riser section or at least the installation of a bandage is required;
  • Sinking of the bell in the ceiling can also lead to a leak along the sewer riser. What is especially unpleasant, this leak occurs periodically, when the riser overflows with a simultaneous drain in a pair of toilet bowls or foam generated during washing. Renovation work and in this case they will require access to the riser;
  • With some blockages, the only way to clean it is to open the riser and remove the stuck object from it with your own hands;
  • Finally, on the outermost floors (and in high-rise buildings - every three floors), revisions for cleaning are installed on the sewer riser. They (as, in fact, risers) belong to the common property of the residents of the house, and free access to them is necessary.

Sometimes you can still

Is the only decoration that the owner of the apartment can afford is a curtain in the toilet on the back wall?

Comrades, not everything is so bleak. You can still hide the risers that are disgusting to you. But with a few very serious reservations:

  1. Steel corrosion-resistant pipes must be replaced by heat and shock resistant material with maintenance-free joints. In houses with centralized hot water supply, only corrugated stainless steel and copper pipes on solder fittings can be used for this purpose. In buildings with boilers, polypropylene and metal-plastic can be added to the list of club members;
  2. The uprights should not be replaced from floor to floor, but at least from the toilet above your to the downstairs neighbor's toilet. Steel pipes rust the fastest in the ceiling;
  3. Cast iron sewer riser is changed to plastic, moreover, all sockets must be fixed with clamps to avoid spontaneous undocking;
  4. If there is a revision opposite it, it is mounted in the partition luke. Its dimensions should provide free access to the revision cover;

  1. Above and below the partition is supplied with a pair ventilation grilles.

Design options

Flat

So how to make a back wall in a panel toilet in an apartment building? Here are some ideas.

The partition consists entirely of inspection hatches for tiles (Euro doors). They provide access to risers over their entire height. In the closed position, the doors are absolutely invisible and do not differ in any way from the main wall covered with tiles.

The space around the risers is used to store washing powder, cleaning products and other household chemicals. High doors and removable shelves allow full access to the risers if required.

Another locker is from the lining.

A variation on the same theme. The front wall of the cabinet is assembled from lining and covered with furniture varnish. Ventilation is provided by the gaps between the wall and the door.

This idea can only be approved. Plastic is more appropriate in a room with high humidity: it does not swell and is easy to clean.

Instead of a door - blinds.

If for some reason you don't like the idea of cabinet doors behind the toilet - no problem: hang blinds instead. They will hide the pipes without obstructing their ventilation.

Private house

How to make a back wall in a private house toilet?

Nothing hinders our imagination here: the sewerage system and water supply connections can simply be taken out to the next technical room or to the basement.

When installing a water supply system from scratch, you can immediately use materials that do not require maintenance of fitting connections. In this case, the water supply and sewerage system can be hidden behind a non-separable partition.

I will share with you the design of the back walls in the toilets of my house.

In the photo - the toilet of the attic floor.

An attic with a sloping roof allowed me to use the space between the vertical wall of the toilet and the sloped roof to create a pair of plasterboard niches. Shelf Coating - tile. Niches are used to store toilet paper and notorious household chemicals. The drywall is painted with a "rubber" waterproofing, making it resistant to splashes.

The wall is tiled. The sewage system is assembled with sealant and sealed in a box. It also has a polypropylene water supply line removed.

Conclusion

I hope that my recommendations will help the esteemed reader in decorating their own homes. As always, the video in this article will offer you additional thematic information. Feel free to share your own experiences in the comments. Good luck, comrades!
