An easy way to make a bean bag chair at home. Step-by-step instructions on how to sew a bean bag chair at home according to the proposed pattern with dimensions Choosing a material for a cover

Frameless chairs are used to save space, so the question of how to sew a bag chair with your own hands often arises among residents of modern apartments, because ready-made copies are not cheap. Such interior items are bright, soft and can be a bean bag or ottoman, a giant pear or ball. Sewing a bag chair with your own hands is not too difficult, there are several ways to do this. With at least some sewing skills, things usually go faster, but even a beginner, with effort, can cope with this task, spending perhaps a little more time. Even if the work does not look perfect, this fact can be disguised as an author's idea and get a unique handmade bean bag chair.

The bag chair is popular because it takes the shape of the body of everyone who sits on it.

DIY bag chair: choice of material

Frameless furniture is subject to the same loads during operation as standard furniture, and possibly to a greater extent. Therefore, before sewing a bag chair, you need to choose the right fabric for it. The material should be durable and pleasant to the touch, and everyone chooses the colors from those available to their liking. In order to sew a bag chair on your own, silk, satin, calico or satin will definitely not work, as they are too thin and fragile and are not intended for this kind of exploitation.

You can use velor for the outer cover, this fabric resembles faux fur, it is soft and fleecy to the touch, velvety and quite durable. Flock is similar to it with its properties, which also has water-repellent properties. This fabric is recommended for use by young children, as it is very easy to wash or clean and does not fade in the sun for a long time.

Chenille fabric can be used to sew the bag chair.

If in order to sew a bag chair, you can use fabrics of non-natural origin, then good option is chenille. This fabric has synthetic fibers in its composition, due to this the surface does not form pellets, is easy to care for and, like any furniture fabric, is quite durable. Jacquard is very similar to chenille, which also has a small percentage of synthetic fibers. Despite the presence of a loop pile on the front surface, this coating does not unravel if one thread is accidentally hooked and broken. It is recommended to sew a chair from such a fabric, as it is durable and all dirt is easily washed off its surface.

A do-it-yourself bag can be sewn using artificial suede or leather. These materials are not budgetary, but a bag chair made of them will last a long time. Faux suede has pile and is very durable, leather can be embossed and is also very durable. Without having a limitation in funds, you can also use a tapestry, it is very durable and dense fabric natural composition, on which various patterns are woven. This type of material has anti-static properties, so it is especially good for sewing a chair filled with Styrofoam balls.

You can fill the chair bag with foam balls.

The fabric that will be used for sewing the inner bag can be any. Mandatory characteristics are breathable properties, since air must freely pass through the structure without preventing it from taking the desired shape. You can not take slippery and too loose fabrics for the inner bag; lining materials used in tailoring will not work. You can take satin, calico or flannel, chintz and cotton are used in 2 additions.

Most often, the fabric sold in rolls has a factory width of 140-150 cm, which is enough to sew a frameless chair without unnecessary seams. A smaller width material is not suitable for every model, and it is not advisable to choose a larger width, since the remains are unsuitable for further use and go to waste.

How to sew a pear chair with appliqué

For work you will need:

  • coarse calico, satin;
  • fabric for the outer cover;
  • 2 zippers;
  • appliqué fabric;
  • filler;
  • threads in color;
  • scissors;
  • tape measure;
  • pencil;
  • pins.

Bag chair pattern.

The pattern needs to be transferred to the fabric, increasing to right size. Most often, the pattern consists of a small lower part, which will serve as the bottom, and 6 wedges for the chair itself. Details are cut out, leaving the necessary allowances for the seams. Before stitching or after it, it is imperative to process the inner edges of the seams. If the fabric is dense and voluminous, it is more convenient to process it in one layer before the cover is sewn. Artificial leather, suede and flock do not need this operation, since their edge does not crumble.

In order to sew a frameless bag with your own hands, you must first fold and sew all the wedges in turn, while leaving a small area unsewn, a zipper is inserted into it. Two seaming wedges are folded with the right sides of the fabric inward and cleaved with pins so that the fabric does not move out and the seams are even. All 6 wedges are sewn in this way, not forgetting the zipper. For a beginner in the sewing business, it can be advised to start with the inner cover, on which the errors are not so critical and practically invisible, and then take on the outer one, which must be sewn flawlessly.

Dimensions for patterns of adult and child seats.

The bottom is sewn on last. The lower, inner cover, which any bag chair has, is sewn in the same way, but it is usually easier to work with it, since its fabric is thin and easier to process. To fill the inner cover with filler, and remove the outer one for washing or cleaning, a zipper is sewn into one of the wedges.

The zipper in both covers must be sewn with special care, checking the strength of the fixation of the slider. An open zipper will create a lot of difficulties with collecting the filler and placing it back into the case. A zipper on the inner cover is necessary, since the filler becomes caked after a while, it is necessary to fill it up so that the chair does not lose its shape. The inner cover for 2/3 of the volume is filled with a special filler, then the zipper is fastened and the outer cover is put on it.

How to sew a rectangular frameless bag with your own hands

To make such an interior item, you will need the following materials:

  • fabric for the inner cover;
  • fabric for the outer cover;
  • threads in tone;
  • 2 zippers;
  • filler;
  • needles;
  • tailor's pins;
  • scissors;
  • pencil;
  • tape measure;
  • square.

Patterns can be drawn on paper and then transferred to the fabric or drawn directly on the fabric. They are cut out, leaving the desired size allowances for the seams.

First of all, in order to sew a chair, you need to connect the bottom and back, while not forgetting to insert a zipper into the seam. After that, the sides and back are sewn together. The front side is sewn to the sides last, the seams are processed using an overlock or a zigzag seam on a typewriter. After that, the bag chair is turned inside out.

In order to sew a rectangular chair and ensure that this shape is maintained during operation, you need to process the seams with a piping or make an additional line along their contour, attaching the seams to inner contour at a distance of 0.7 cm. Then the filler is poured into the inner case, the zipper is fastened and the outer case is put on.

How to sew a chair bag in the shape of a ball

For work you will need:

  • fabric for the inner cover;
  • fabric for the outer cover of 2 types;
  • pencil;
  • square;
  • tape measure;
  • scissors;
  • threads to match the fabric;
  • pins for pinning;
  • filler;
  • 2 zippers.

The bag chair can be a highlight of any interior.

Before sewing a chair of such an unusual shape, you need to correctly draw up a pattern, which will be several regular polygons. The classic shape of the ball is made up of several five- and hexagons, which need 12 and 20 parts, respectively, to sew a chair. The assembly process will be the same as in the previous versions, but before sewing the chair, a lot of patience and perseverance will be required, since all forms must be accurate.

All shapes are transferred to the fabric in the required quantity and cut out, leaving appropriate allowances for the seams. Since these parts are relatively small and have sharp corners, it is recommended that the seams be treated to prevent fraying before the parts are assembled. This does not apply to non-shrinking materials, and the rest are processed using an overlock or a zigzag stitch. Even better - but it takes a lot of time - to process the sections with piping before sewing the chair.

First, the parts are cleaved with pins and only after that they begin to sew together so that there is no displacement in the process and you do not have to redo all the work. Sewing a chair in the shape of a ball is also more difficult because of the lightning, since it usually does not fit in only one face, you have to place it along a curve.

The inner cover should follow the shape of the outer one, but it can be sewn from fabric of the same color. The filler is poured into it, the zipper is fastened, then the outer cover is pulled on top. The question of how to sew a ball-shaped bag chair can be considered resolved.

How to properly fill the filler

The filler of frameless furniture is its most important attribute, since the product will keep its shape only when expanded polystyrene balls are placed inside.

Putting such small balls inside the case is not an easy task, especially when there are so many of them. To complete this work, you need to prepare:

  • filler;
  • paper;
  • vacuum cleaner.

This may take quite a long time. They make a funnel out of paper, folding it like a bag. The narrow end must be placed in the hole in the inner bag that is open for this. The required amount of filler is poured inside, it is most convenient to do this with an assistant, when one person holds the cover and funnel, and the second fills the polystyrene foam balls.

When the right amount of filler is placed inside the cover, the funnel is removed and the zipper is fastened. More or less of the pellets will be on the floor, it must be removed with a vacuum cleaner. Especially great care must be taken if there are pets or children in the room, as swallowed pellets can cause many problems. It is better to take the children out of the room while filling, as small balls can easily end up in the ears or nose.

In order to sew a bag chair, you will need about 4.6 m of dense and lining fabric, 2 zippers no shorter than 56 cm, as well as polystyrene or other granules of at least 1.8 cubic meters.

Pear chair pattern, more precisely, one of the six segments of the bag is shown in the diagram, one with adult sizes, the dimensions of the other are reduced for the convenience of the child. In order to simplify the calculations, you can use graph paper or other checkered paper; on such material, you can easily transfer the diagram only if the scale is observed.

As a result, the pattern of an adult chair will have the following dimensions: length 105 cm, maximum width 54 cm.

To create the top of the chair, fold the paper in half, and then make a mark in the middle of the fold line. Next, you need to draw a circle with a radius of 14cm.

To create a pattern for the base of the chair, as well as when creating a drawing of the top, you can use paper folded in half, however, a circle should be drawn with a radius of at least 30.5 cm. parallel line. After that, the circle is cut along this line, and the base pattern will be the smaller part of the circle.

As a result of cutting, you should get:
- six wedges from the fabric for the cover and the same number cut from the lining fabric;
- one upper part made of lining fabric and one made of fabric for the cover;
- two parts of the base, cut out of the fabric for the cover, and also two of the lining fabric.

How to sew a bag chair- the answer to this question is quite simple! First you need to sew together the details of the base, and between the two details of the base you need to insert a zipper. Next, you should connect the side wedges to each other with the right sides inward. When all the details are interconnected, the product must be ironed, not forgetting to carefully smooth the seams. After that, the bag can be filled with polystyrene or other granules.

So the beautiful pear-bean bag chair, sewn with your own hands, is ready!

Happy sewing!

Furniture is different: soft and cabinet, beautiful and comfortable, necessary and beloved, white and red ... And sometimes it is also frameless. We first saw cool unusual chairs in the program "Comedy Club". Previously, something such baggy furniture did not catch the eye. But thanks to the popular TV show, everyone was envious and urgently wanted the same ones for themselves!

To date, I have already sewn quite a few of these bags myself. And then we looked everywhere, where at least one was possible, to rip it open, and see, well, what is there after all inside! A real odyssey about twelve chairs! With what only we did not fill the covers, which we ourselves designed! Sintepon, pieces of foam rubber, wool ... everything was not right! It seems to be soft, but there is no such characteristic elastic and lively effect!

A whole year passed until the friends who came from Italy found such a chair, not by chance. It was so beautiful, huge and silvery that the hand did not rise to cut it. Yes, it was not necessary. The case appears to have a zipper. And inside is another case. And in that case - tiny peas. What would you think, of course, Styrofoam! Darkness-darkness of cute white balls. Who would have guessed that they just have an unbearable character? But more on that later.

Do-it-yourself frameless furniture is incredibly convenient, comfortable and beautiful. After sitting and lying down on such an armchair, we can relax our back, and the whole body as a whole. Such stunning chairs are simply adored by children and animals. And it all started with a curiosity. And, of course, in the homeland of design - in Italy. In the sixties of the twentieth century, young designers Cesare Paolini, Franco Teodoro and Piero Gatti came up with a kind of punk movement "Antidesign".

The guys made absolutely crazy furniture. Including armchairs without frames. Colored water was poured into bags made of transparent PVC fabric. These works resembled huge packages of yogurt. Such furniture at design exhibitions looked very scandalous, of course. But it just looked. It was impossible to operate it. Water is very heavy in itself, and the fabric simply torn under its weight.

But Italy is the birthplace of not only artists, but also adventurers. Industrialist Aurelio Zanotta had a business sense. He liked the crazy idea, and after thinking about it, he made his own changes, which made the bags practical chairs. Aurelio replaced PVC with a durable fabric, and water with foamed PVC balls. And already in 1968, his freshly baked company "Zanotta" puts on sale bags-drops of bright pink color, weightless and insanely comfortable.

Сonfortevole da morire, as the Italians like to say "deadly comfortable". These chairs were called "Sacco" (sacco) - a bag. Incredible pink bags immediately won many awards at exhibitions, the largest museums in the world, such as MoMA, Metropolitan, and many others. The ingenious Aurelio got rich, and the Zanotta factory still produces frameless furniture, which sells around the world with a bang. As well as all the rest of the beautiful furniture of their production. By the way, the world's first inflatable chair "Blow" was also born in this factory.

In 2008, the Zanotta factory celebrated its 40th anniversary. For the holiday, they released a collection of Saccos, hand-painted by famous artists and designers. She was destined to travel around the world, and then sell at auction. The French channel "Arte" made a whole film dedicated to ageless bags. These are the consequences of the friendship of three young designers! By the way, I never found out what their fate was.

So wonderful bright mattresses carry the energy of prosperity and breakthrough. Why don't we have these? The original costs about 600 euros. Native Ukrainian fake - more than a thousand hryvnia. But wait! Italians are not all so brilliant and handy. For the most part, they do not like to make something there (and even more so, by the way, to repair and repair) with their own hands. They prefer to earn and buy. Otherwise the world would be overpopulated with Mikkelangels and Leonard Davincis.

But we are, we are different! Golden hands are given to us from birth! Our craftswomen figured out a long time ago how to make such charming furniture at home. Of all the tools you need only sewing machine. Don't need no hammers, drills, no outside help. In one evening, you can easily build one chair. For a week of work, do-it-yourself frameless furniture will be a wonderful gift to all relatives and friends.

Now we will decide on the model, and proceed. To date, such frameless furniture models:

This beauty also differs in size: for adults and children, bigger and smaller. But there are no strict standards. The principle of tailoring is the same for everyone. The difference is only in the pattern of the model.

Components of furniture

So, any frameless chair consists of two covers: internal and external. Both fasten with zippers. External case it can be made of eco-leather (the word promoted by advertising, in fact, it is an ordinary furniture leatherette). Such a surface is easy to clean, always looks bright and elegant. But to sit on it with bare feet in the summer means to stick. You can also use any fabric, preferably furniture - they are much stronger. For example, fleece, you can raincoat fabric, cotton fabric, any light and durable. With natural fabric, the body feels better, but it wears out faster. In general, think, in the end, sewing a new cover instead of a worn out one is not a problem.

Inner case can be sewn from furniture interlining or a simple lining fabric. Its shape is the same as the outer one. AND filling- balls of polyvinyl chloride, that is, polystyrene.

Foamed granules are very harmful. Putting them in a ready-made case is impossible! According to the law of static electricity, the balls fly up, then completely sideways, and finally stick to everything. A very beautiful sight, but I do not advise repeating it. For the rest of your life, you'll be picking nasty pellets out of all sorts of places. I have developed two methods to stuff the harmful balls inside the case.

First: sew a long zipper, for example, a meter long, into the inner case. Then you can stuff the whole bag into it, cut it inside, and take it out, and the balls will remain inside. Second: make a large paper funnel, and fill the crumbs through it. Then there is no need for a long lightning. Paper also removes static electricity.

Previously, this miracle could only be bought in construction stores in big bags. Now, when frameless furniture is mass-produced, there are special granules packaged in one hundred liters. They cost from fifty hryvnias - according to the conscience of the seller. Don't be intimidated by the volume - the bag is almost weightless.

Varieties of frameless furniture

We start with the simplest patterns. To start, let's make pillow. It looks like a trihedral pyramid. The classic proportions of triangles: the base is 110 cm each, the sides are 80 cm each. But you can resize without changing the proportions to your liking. We cut out, placing the details on the fabric in such a way as in the photo.

We give seam allowances one and a half centimeters on each side. Sew together the sides of the pyramid. Slices are processed with an overlock if the fabric is loose. Sewing on the triangle base of the pyramid, we sew in the zipper. It is better to do this on the entire face 100 cm long.

We sew the outer cover in the same way. We stuff a bag with balls into the inner case and release them, fill the case by two-thirds. They need room to move in order to take shape when they sit in the chair. We take out an empty bag, fasten the zipper. We stuff the inner into the outer, fasten. That's it, you're done!

Armchair-pear consists of six wedges, a round bottom (bottom part 1 and 2, two parts each), and an upper hexagonal part. It is sewn in the same way as a pillow. classic is also no less interesting. We cut out two side parts.

Pattern for mat chairs not needed at all. We sew two rectangles, width 120 cm, height 180 cm, do not forget about zippers. That's the whole cover. Do not forget that you do not need to fill the cover with balls to failure, but only two-thirds. patterns flower chairs I don't, I didn't have to sew. But there is a picture by which it is clear how to sew. In fact, the whole flower is sewn from squares.

And finally, I will say, if frameless furniture with your own hands has taken root with you, do not throw away the remnants of harmful balls. Over time, after about a year of daily use, the balls will shrink and become smaller in volume.

Then you will need to fill them up to the desired volume. And you just have the right amount in the balance!

I will also say, especially to lovers healthy lifestyle life. I have never heard anyone complain about allergic reactions to frameless furniture. She is very eco-friendly.

Have a nice rest in chairs that take the shape of your body, chairs that know how to love, chairs born in the most beautiful country in the world!

The filler for upholstered frameless furniture is ecological and safe. Styrofoam balls with which the bean bag is filled differ in heat-insulating properties. Bacteria and moisture do not collect inside the bean bag, mold does not form, which is very important, especially for families with children.

Ho-ho! Dreams tend to come true, especially if you really want them to come true. For hoo years Kostya and I have been looking at the bean bag chair, or as it is also called: bean chair, pear chair, frameless chair, Big Ben, cushion chair, etc. And somehow it didn’t work out to get this coveted thing: either there was a catastrophic lack of space in the last apartment, or there was no repair to accommodate such beauty, or we simply couldn’t find polystyrene foam anywhere (those same foam balls that fill bag chair).

During the time of nurturing the idea of \u200b\u200bcreating a bean bag chair with our own hands, we managed to accumulate enough information on how and from what to sew it, how to stuff it, how to choose the size. In addition, we found a beautiful natural fabric for the outer cover and an ugly, but knitted fabric for the inner cover. And we also found out that granulated polystyrene foam entered the permanent sale of the Epicenter retail chain. And when there was time and Kostya was accidentally brought to the nearest "Epicenter", from where he dragged 200 liters of white balls, it became clear that we would be sewing a bean bag chair very urgently. And so it happened.

So, how we made a bean bag chair with our own hands.

We needed:

  • Fabric for the inner cover (2.5m x 1.4m). It should be a well-stretched fabric. We took an old knitted sheet.
  • Fabric for outer cover (2.5m x 1.4m). Any dense non-stretch fabric (cotton, velor, furniture fabric, even leatherette) will do. Our fabric is thick cotton, it turned out to be very pleasant and soft on the finished chair.
  • Expanded polystyrene 200-300 l. These are the balls into which we used to break unnecessary packaging foam plastic in childhood :) In construction stores, this happiness is sold in large bags. It is better to take smaller balls, they stray less. In Kiev, as I already wrote, we found a suitable polystyrene foam for stuffing a bean bag chair with our own hands at Epicenter (200 l - 95 UAH), Leroy Merlin also has polystyrene foam, but not always in larger granules (300 l - 120 UAH). We bought 1 bag of 200 liters, although it was written in the recommendations that we would need 300-400 liters. When we stuffed the bean bag and began to test it, we came to the conclusion that it was just enough for us, since the soft bag takes the shape of the body better than the elastic one. The back rests very well on such a chair, and for a pregnant tummy it is generally an indispensable thing :)

  • 2 zippers. For the inner cover - 50 cm, for the outer - 100 cm.
  • Strong threads
  • Paper for large patterns. We took craft. You can take old wallpaper.
  • 2 Velcro 10 cm long. They will be needed to connect the inner and outer covers.
  • Sewing machine. Manually, in my opinion, sewing all this is unrealistic ...

Stages of work:

1. Build a pattern. A standard bean bag chair consists of 6 wedges and 2 round or hexagonal parts (the upper one is small, the lower one is large), and a handle is also attached on top. There are a lot of different patterns of a frameless chair on the Internet, but the meaning is the same. Appearance the bean bag does not change much whether the bottom is a circle or a hexagon, the width of the wedges will be 40 or 50 cm. Of course, the main dimensions greatly affect the size of the finished product, but I mean that the type of wedges and bottom does not drastically affect how your chair will end up looking.

We found and finalized the pattern of the middle bean chair (120 x 90 cm). It seems to me that the standard width is enough. If you increase only the height of the wedges to about 140 cm, then the length of the headrest will increase, that is, the chair is suitable for a taller person.

Bean bag patterns

To transfer the wedge pattern to a large sheet, you need to draw the middle of the wedge - the axis, put marks on it at a distance of every 10 cm and measure the widths indicated on our pattern, and then connect them in one line. This will be the side bend of the wedge. Then we fold the pattern along the axis and draw the second half of the wedge symmetrically. There is a deflection on the bottom of the pattern. We measure the specified deflection size from the height of the axis. Then we apply the ruler to the two lower edges of the pattern and bend it to the specified deflection mark and draw a deflection under the ruler. Cut out the finished pattern.

How to draw a deflection on a wedge pattern

In order to draw a circle, we take a non-stretching thread and tie a loop at one end (we will thread a pencil into it). We measure the length of the radius of the circle from the pencil to the finger on the ruler. We press one end of the thread to the center of the circle, thread a pencil into the second and draw a circle. Cut out.

How to draw a bottom pattern for a bean bag chair

To build a hexagon, you need to draw a rectangle, and then place the hexagon in it according to the specified dimensions. Cut out the detail.

Don't forget about the rectangle pattern for the handle.

Patterns for a frameless chair

2. Now we place the patterns on the fabric, as in the figure. This is necessary for a more rational use of the material. For the same purpose, the round part is cut into 4 parts. Before sewing a bean bag chair, they need to be sewn into a full circle. When cutting the fabric for the inner cover, we did not divide the bottom piece, because the old sheet was big size, and it was enough for us to place all the patterns in full size.

Placement of bean bag chair patterns on fabric

3. Cut out all the details, not forgetting the seam allowances (1-1.5 cm).

4. We sew the inner cover first. We sew the wedges together, sew a 50 cm zipper into the last seam.

This is what the outer case looks like without a bottom and top

5. Sew on the bottom. For convenience, it is worth connecting the wedges and the bottom with pins.

6. Then sew on the top hexagon. Do not forget to sew 2 Velcro on this part.

7. In the same way we sew the outer cover. On inside we sew 2 velcro on the hexagon, and on its outer side we sew the handle of the bean bag chair (first, fold the rectangle in half with the wrong side up, sew along the edge, turn it inside out, and then sew it to the hexagon).

Finished inner and outer covers

8. When 2 cases are ready, it's time to stuff the inner case with Styrofoam balls. To do this, I advise you to go out into the entrance, or at least into the corridor, since the balls tend to crumble and scatter in different directions. Have a vacuum cleaner or broom and dustpan handy. The package with balls needs to be cut in the upper corner quite a bit. Otherwise, cutting off the entire top of the package, you run the risk of spilling a lot of balls past the cover. And this means that it will take a long, long time to clean them. Insert the opening of the bag into the cover of the bean bag chair and slightly shaking the bag, slowly pour the contents. This action is best done together. After filling the chair, fasten the clasp.

9. Insert the inner cover with balls into the outer one, fasten the upper parts of both covers together with Velcro. Zip up the zipper and enjoy your big bean bag, which you did make yourself :)

Velcro to connect two cases

Kostya is holding a bob-chair by the handle

All three of us spent the whole day testing this miracle of comfort and discovered the additional functionality of Big Ben. In addition to being a 2 in 1 chair and couch, it has a very good body streamlining, which allows pregnant women to finally place their stomach in a comfortable position.

Bean bag - the joy of the child :)

In addition, Xenia appreciated the bean and began to use it as almost a trampoline, slide and sofa at the same time. It is noteworthy that it is quite difficult for her to get out of the arms of the chair, which means that she strains her muscles and this is very useful. It is very funny to watch how a baby bogged down in a bag flounders, rolls over, pushes off and squeals with delight. In addition, the bumpy texture of the balls is still felt through the covers, and for small children's legs this is a wonderful massage.

Evening family reading

By evening, it was discovered that the enveloping effect of the chair helps to put the obstinate baby to sleep :) A couple of cartoon episodes, a comfortable position in the chair next to the mother and the cub is sleeping. Another property of the chair will please those who love warmth. It is very warm. As you know, polystyrene is an excellent insulation, and polystyrene balls that cover the body from all sides are warm so that you will not freeze, even if you really want to. Just remember to bring a cozy blanket with you.

Here is a new piece of furniture we recently got. We immediately appreciated its merits and made it habitable, even sometimes arguing who will sit on it. If you have any questions when creating a bean bag with your own hands, write to us and we will definitely answer them.

We wish you inspiration to create wonderful cozy things!

P.S. After 5 months of active use.

Bags began to flicker on the screens TVs in the studios of various television programs, the townsfolk wondered - is this design really comfortable for sitting? Soon, all those interested were convinced of the level of comfort of such a chair, but other questions arose - where to buy and how to enter this furniture V interior. More about this and how to create a bean bag chair do it yourself will be discussed further.

DIY bean bag chair: advantages of frameless furniture

Incredible comfort . Loose filling allows the chair to take the shape of your body, in whatever position you are. This significantly reduces the load on the spine and increases the efficiency of rest. The chair provides thermal insulation, keeping your body warm, which is equally important if you have back problems.

Absolute security . The bean bag has no sharp corners or edges, solid elements or small fittings, so it is suitable even for children's rooms. In addition, frameless furniture for children is made from environmentally friendly fabrics.

All-round practicality . Cleaning the room is not difficult, because the low weight of the chair allows even a child to move it. It is easy to clean the chair itself from dirt by simply washing the removable cover.

We sew a bean bag chair ourselves

First, prepare the materials and tools.

  • Fabric for the inner cover. Opt for inexpensive durable fabric white color– other colors can be seen through the outer case.
  • Fabric for outer cover.
  • 2 zippers.
  • Filler - expanded polystyrene in granules. Simply put, these are foam plastic balls that are sold at a hardware store.
  • Sewing machine.
  • Millimeter pattern paper.
  • Pencil, crayon, ruler, pins.

Our chair will be pear-shaped, medium in size for an adult. With a fabric width of 1.5 meters, a cut of 3.5 meters is needed for the inner cover, and 3.6 meters for the outer one. The length of the zippers is 40 and 60 cm, respectively. The filler will need a quarter meter cubic.

We make a pattern in accordance with the pattern, observing the dimensions. There will be 6 pear-shaped wedges, a small hexagon is the top of the chair, and the bottom should be oval. Two fragments of the bottom shown on the pattern will be needed in duplicate. The oval is divided into 4 parts to save material when cutting.

We transfer the pattern to the fabric for the inner cover using pins and chalk. Leaving a 1 cm seam allowance, cut out all the details. We carry out similar operations with the second type of tissue.

Multifunctional - the bag is at the peak of its popularity. It has many advantages over other models.

The absence of a frame allows the product to completely repeat the curves of the body.

In addition, the chair is characterized by mobility, light weight and ease of use.

The design feature is the absence of a rigid frame. The bean bag is made in two sizes - 50 and 100 cm in diameter. It depends on the height and weight of the users, as well as the purpose of the room.

This frameless furniture consists of two covers: internal and external. Removable cover is sewn from different materials (cotton, linen, velvet, fur, leatherette).

And the main requirement for the inner cover is the strength and high density of the fabric. The main thing is that the selected materials are practical, durable, pleasant to the touch and harmoniously fit into the environment.

Attention: After some time of use, the chair may shrink. The situation is corrected by adding filler to the inner case.
