Do-it-yourself curtains for the bedroom. Do-it-yourself curtains for the bedroom - are they justified spending. DIY curtains in the bedroom: original examples, style, design for the bedroom

Textile decoration of each individual room has its own characteristics. the bedroom should perform a practical function - to darken the room, preventing the sun's rays from disrupting the usual sleep pattern.

The created atmosphere is designed to encourage relaxation, as well as create a romantic mood. Any style you like can become the basis for the decor:

  • classic is suitable for adherents of stability and constancy;
  • modern, high-tech will suit those who like modern brevity combined with practicality;
  • ethnic or oriental is appropriate in the bedroom of exotic lovers, travelers;
  • country and Provence styles will bring nostalgic notes to village life;
  • vintage will delight fans of antiquity.

The division into styles is conditional, you can create a unique atmosphere with your own hands by borrowing original ideas from professionals.

Where to begin?

The first thing to start with sewing curtains for the bedroom is to make a decision and release from doubts. Everyone can do this process: even those who did not hold a needle and thread can sew straight curtains. Complex patterns require familiarity with sewing techniques, but they are also available for independent implementation: skills are acquired in the process.

The second step is the choice of the product model and the cornice. If the idea of \u200b\u200bthe desired sample has not been formed, then you can spy on the options from friends or on the network, at the same time copying the sewing instructions. The choice of the product model depends on the way it is attached to the cornice: clothespins, rings or eyelets. Perhaps you should start by changing the cornice - hang a beautiful modern piece.

Step three - determining the color and texture of the fabric. The color of the material can be in tune with the rest of the textiles, walls, or, conversely, contrasting. It is important to remember the rules:

  • the design usually does not use more than three primary colors;
  • in the bedroom, calm pastel colors are more acceptable;
  • the color of the curtains should not be the same shade with the walls;
  • a large pattern on the walls suggests plain curtains, and the monotonous decoration of the room will be decorated with colorful textiles.

But the best part about decorating a bedroom is that you can not adhere to the rules, following your own creative intuition. It is better to prefer fabric in texture to a bedroom with a lining. The choice of material is limited only by financial capabilities.

The bedroom will be decorated with:

  • silk;
  • velvet;
  • curtain cloth;
  • polyester;
  • atlas;
  • cotton;
  • batiste.

Of the listed types, it is more convenient to work with thick cotton. In the west, it is one of the most sought-after materials, along with other natural samples. The lining is best made of cotton with polyester.

Fourth, success in work depends not only on the right choice fabric, but also on the tool used: a good sewing machine and sharp scissors will allow you to get a quality product and enjoy the sewing process.

We decorate the bedroom with curtains: simple and cozy

Whatever material is used, it is important to remember:royal curtains for bedroom are obtained not due to complicated structures with original names, but with the correct calculation of the proportions of the main elements and a harmonious combination of colors. You can create a beautiful bedroom by combining a model of rectangular parts and carefully following the instructions in the process. It is easier for novice decorators to resort to decorating a room by stitching a simple bedroom:

  • tulle curtain - standard;
  • narrow curtains in the bedroom;
  • short curtains.

Simple patterns are cut on a piece of fabric, without using templates. A ready-made pattern of curtains for the bedroom will not hurt if you liked the model with draped details - lambrequins, perekids, swagas, bells. However, when decorating a room, do not forget that complex lush structures require troublesome care: they collect dust, they need to be regularly removed, washed, ironed out and hung again. It is recommended to choose complex patterns of curtains for the bedroom if there is time, energy and desire for such procedures. The modern lifestyle dictates its own rules - minimalism is practical and no less cute. If you want simplicity and comfort, then we sew curtains in the bedroom beautifully and quickly.

When buying a curtain fabric, take into account its possible shrinkage, as well as the presence of a pattern, for which you will need more matter to combine than in the case of a plain fabric. By purchasing a cut, the footage is increased by 10 - 15% compared to the length of the product.

We start the sewing process

Having chosen the right fabric, having washed and ironed it, prepared the tools, we get to work. We sew curtains in the bedroom using the following set of tools:

  • sewing machine, set of needles;
  • scissors;
  • pins;
  • centimeter, square;
  • iron.

From the materials you need:

  • the selected canvas of fabric;
  • curtain tape;
  • threads to match;
  • accessories as needed (hooks, rings, eyelets).

The master class on sewing curtains in the bedroom consists of four steps:

  • Cut and cut parts , considering seam allowances - in those places where they are needed. Ordinary curtains for the bedroom with their own hands are cut directly on the fabric. At home, this can be done on the floor. Check the alignment of the corners on the fabric (often they cut unevenly in the store), make sure they are straight (use a square). If the fabric is slippery, it is recommended that you baste the pieces before cutting the folded parts.
  • Process . Many fabrics have a neat side hem that is left untreated. If the side edges are without edges or it does not look aesthetically pleasing enough, then they are processed:
  1. folded and stitched (the method is called "hem seam");
  2. folded over and sewn with back side lining;
  3. sew on a fringe;
  4. sheathed with an oblique inlay - a narrow satin ribbon specially designed for sheathing the seams with it.
  • Checkout bottom . The bottom is folded with a margin for a possible shrinkage of at least 5 cm and sewn. If the fibers peel off heavily, you can pre-treat the seam on or melt the edge.
  • Finish the top edge of the curtain . This is the most crucial step in sewing curtains for the bedroom. First, the top edge is visible. Secondly, the processing method will differ depending on the type of attachment to the cornice.

If the canvas is fastened with loops, and a mounting tape is sewn on the back side, then the upper edge is folded over the width of the tape plus 1.5–2 cm to cover it.

If eyelets are used - special rings threaded into holes cut into the fabric and sliding along the cornice, then the edge is folded 10 cm - along the width of the adhesive sealing tape, which provides the fabric with rigidity. Place an adhesive strip in the fold and iron it. Places for eyelets are marked at a distance of 15 - 20 cm from one another. The number of eyelets is necessarily odd, in which case the side edges of the curtain will be wrapped symmetrically. Cut holes with scissors and insert eyelets into them, clamping until a characteristic click.

Fastening with crocodile clips or magnetic holders assumes a neat bend and stitching of the seam without complicated finishing options. It is convenient to attach lightweight tulle fabrics to magnets.

Often, do-it-yourself curtains in the bedroom are made on the drawstring - a simple way in which the canvas is put on a bar without additional devices... To do this, the edge of the canvas is folded and stitched in such a way that the resulting drawstring is spacious enough for the curtain to move freely along the bar.

Now most housewives prefer to order the manufacture of curtains in workshops. This is because many people find sewing curtains too difficult. In fact, it’s quite simple to sew curtains for the bedroom with your own hands. And this kind of work will not take long.

Pattern for sewing curtains.

Usually for the manufacture of multilayer curtains decorated with a lambrequin or frill, it takes only 2-3 free evenings and minimal cutting skills. If you know some of the nuances and rules of sewing, then even a novice craftswoman will cope with such work.

Making for a bedroom with your own hands

Sewing any product, including curtains in the bedroom, begins with the choice of model. It should be borne in mind that curtains serve not only as window decoration. They also bring coziness and comfort into the room. Therefore, you should not stop your choice on too fanciful ideas. Pay attention to the fairly simple and concise models.

Scheme of Austrian curtains.

In addition, it is not at all difficult to make such curtains with your own hands for a bedroom. Before you sew curtains, carefully consider their appearance. You must initially present the finished result.

Sewing curtains in the bedroom begins with taking the necessary measurements. You will need the following dimensions:

  1. Distance from the eaves to the floor.
  2. Eaves width.
  3. The width of the window opening, taking into account the section of the wall, which will be closed by the finished curtains.

The dimensions of the curtains are calculated based on these parameters. To form beautiful folds, the width of the curtains is increased by 2.5-3 times. If you want to sew curtains consisting of 1 single piece of fabric, then its width should be equal to the length of the curtain rod with a supply of material for the folds. For separate panels, this parameter is divided by 2.

The scheme of the Roman curtains.

This rule is also relevant for decorative details, for example, frills or lambrequins. Do not be afraid to tackle such seemingly complex parts. After all, you can not only sew curtains with your own hands, but also decorate them so that you get a truly exclusive model.

You can change the indicated sizes at will. All details in this example are cut in the form of simple rectangles. Accordingly, it will not be difficult to sew curtains for your bedroom.

Sewing curtains in the bedroom

Before you sew curtains according to the proposed example, you do not need to make patterns. All necessary dimensions and marks are applied directly to the fabric. This is best done on the wrong side with a piece of chalk or dry soap.

Roller blinds scheme.

In order to sew the curtains, you will need the following tools:

  • centimeter tape or construction tape;
  • tailor's scissors;
  • pins;
  • sewing machine;
  • threads and needles for sweeping.

When marking the curtains, do not forget about the allowances for hem. Usually, 1.5-2 cm are left on the sides, 2-3 cm on the top, and 5-7 cm on the bottom. The same allowances are left for processing frills.

After the curtain is marked, it must be cut out. It is wiser to cut all the elements at once. This way you can be sure that there is enough material for the entire chosen structure.

Now you need to sew the curtains. First, side sections are processed. They are tucked, ironed, cleaved with pins and laid the machine line in the edge, 1.5-2 mm from the fold of the fabric. Remember that the thinner the fabric, the shorter the stitch should be.

After the lateral edges are stitched, you can do the bending of the top. Usually it is designed in the same way as the side sections. Only the hem allowance should be wider. If the fabric for the curtains is thin, then the allowance must be duplicated with an adhesive pad. The bottom of the product is processed last.

How to sew fine fabric curtains

Table of fabric volumes for sewing curtains.

As a rule, making curtains with your own hands from dense fabrics is not difficult. More difficult to handle thin materials. But it is these curtains for the bedroom that look especially impressive. But this task can be easily dealt with if you know some tricks.

Having measured required height and width transparent curtains, carefully cut the top edge of the fabric, aligning it. Fold the material to a width of 1.7-2.5 cm. It is this hem that will hide small errors of stitching. If you decide to sew curtains for the bedroom from a material containing a high percentage of artificial fibers, then the hem must not only be ironed, but also swept away. Otherwise, the fabric will slip and the seam will turn out uneven.

Make sure that the tension of the upper and lower threads is the same. Otherwise, the tulle can go in waves. The stitch should be medium. Set the regulator to the 2.5-3 mark.

Spread the curtain on the floor, preferably on a rug, aligning the bottom edge of the fabric with the edge of the carpet. Smooth the material and measure in several places the desired height. Mark it with pins and baste the fold at the top edge. Next, the curtains for the bedroom should be checked for sagging. To do this, the canvas is fixed on the wall or hung on the cornice, forming a drapery (giving the curtain the look that it will eventually take). Modify the hem as needed. Only then tuck it up completely, iron it, baste and delay.

If you sew curtains with your own hands, and do not buy ready-made ones, then do not be lazy to do all the work as accurately as possible.

Only then can you be sure of a flawless result.

Making fasteners in the form of a loop

Scheme of wide fabric loops.

Before you sew the curtains, think about how to attach them to the cornice. You can use curtain tapes, clips or eyelets for this. But no less impressive look curtains on loops. Besides the attractive appearance they have other advantages. For example, such fasteners do not make noise when the curtains are pulled in or apart, which is important for a bedroom.

For the manufacture of loops, trim left over from cutting the main curtains will come in handy. The blank for the loop should be equal to the diameter of the cornice with the addition of 5-7 cm of allowance for loose fitting. Also, don't forget about the hem allowance. The width of the loop depends entirely on your desire. Usually when folded, this parameter is 4-6 cm. Loops can be made so that both their edges are sewn to the curtain. Or one edge can be left open by processing a loop on it. Then the curtain can be easily removed from the cornice.

When cutting curtains for the bedroom, make blanks for the loops. They are sewn on after the top edge of the curtain has been completely finished. If you want to hang multi-layer curtains on the hinges, then all the elements must be swept together and the top cut must be processed as a single piece. If you have chosen thin fabric for curtains in the bedroom, then this is not difficult to do. Dense material can be edged with an oblique tie.

Production of pickup for curtains

Pattern for curtains.

A pick-up is a small but important element in curtain design. He not only holds the curtains in open formbut also shapes them with a beautiful drapery. You can not sew this part, but buy it ready-made. For example, with classic-style bedroom curtains, hooks in the form of bronze or silver hooks mounted directly into the wall are ideally combined.

Grips can be fancy. Details collected from beads, braided from lace or made from lace look very interesting. With the curtains sewn from a rough cloth, rope hooks are perfectly combined. They are a simple piece of thick cotton rope, decorated at the ends with intricate knots or tassels. But if you decide to sew the curtains with your own hands, then it is more logical to make the hooks yourself.

Clips will hold your curtains

To make such curtains, you, first of all, need to go shopping. You need two things: a curtain rod and clips. Find a decorative cornice for each window you want to decorate. When choosing it, make sure you can fit the clips on it, which will attach to the rod and hold the fabric. Their number depends on how many swags (a semicircle draped with folds) you want to collect. (Do you want to see smooth, hard-falling canvases, or do you prefer them to be draped with light folds? It all depends on you and your taste.)

Step 2. Installation

There are many options for installing a curtain rod.

Then return home and install the purchased cornices. It is important to deal with them even before purchasing the material, since the length of your curtains depends on the height at which they will be attached. Follow the installation instructions.

Step 3: measure

Then attach the clips. Take a centimeter and measure the length from them to the floor. Write down this number. You will rely on these data when calculating the length of your material.

Step 4. Fabric

Draperies are usually sold in rolls.

For curtains you need material, therefore, again you have to go shopping. It is advisable to choose portyernye options, since by weight they will be more suitable for your purposes. The curtain material is usually 1.5 meters wide, and this width is enough to make luxurious and strong curtains, as if from a store. In order to determine the amount of necessary matter, remember the numbers you recorded in 3 paragraph and add another half meter. This will be the final length. But do not take the back to back! Leave a margin of 10-15 centimeters in case of errors. (Read below for advice on how to choose the best fabric)

Step 5. Measure seven times, cut one

You can make the curtains long if you like it when they touch the floor, as if merging with it.

Once you get home, you will need to make a very accurate cut. Remember, in step 3, you determined the length of each canvas, while adding half a meter. If you do not have a special table with markings for cutting, use a centimeter to measure the desired length. Next, take a straight stick about a meter long and draw a "trim" line. (Use crayon or soap to mark the line.) Carefully cut along this line. (Read on for tips on cropping correctly).

Step 6. Edges

Next, you need to process the edges to get the curtains for the bedroom. Turn on the iron, let it warm up a little. Lower the top edge by 1 meter. Iron the material so that its edge remains below. Iron the bottom as well as the edges, meter by meter.

Step 7. Sew or not sew

When stitching, do not lose sight of the lines on the typewriter panel and your stitches will always be straight.

You can sew or use duct tape for the folds. (Go to step 8 if you are not going to sew) If you dare to sew, attach the pins at the same distance so that when sewing the fabric does not unfold. Observe the mark on the panel under the foot sewing machines and sew all four sides of your curtain this way. (Skip step 9).

Step 8. Glue

Masking tape is easy to find at any sewing store.

First of all, you need to cut strips of tape in proportion to the edges. Then open the top and bottom ironed edges and spread the duct tape over them. Fold and iron according to package directions. Do it all over again with all sides. Now the edge is processed professionally! To make curtains for the bedroom you will never have to sew!

Step 9. Clips

You can find many different decorative clips.

Attach the clips to the cornice. Place them as close and often as you like. The distance between them depends on how the fabric falls. Hanging with folds sometimes looks more gentle, while falling straight down (or lack of it) looks neat and modern.

Step 10. Hanging the curtains

Funny clips and material will add unusualness to your room.

Now you have finally installed the clips and you can admire your unique bedroom curtains.

Useful Tips do-it-yourself sewing curtains

Eaves can become expensive pleasure, especially design. However, if you look into a regular store, market or sewing department, you can always find something within your pocket.

Matter can also be a costly item, especially if you need a large footage. But you can save money simply - go to the local small sewing shops and departments with discounts.

If you're going to remodel an entire room, look for your favorite items for inspiration. When my mom was choosing the color of the walls and finishes for her new home, she first went shopping in search of something that would spark her imagination. She focused her eyes on the decorative plates and used the colors from the pattern on the plate to decorate the house. If the thing that you have chosen has a pleasant color scheme, you will not go wrong using these colors further. In such cases, the colors are perfectly combined with each other, and you will not fall into the trap.

Remember the old adage “measure seven times, cut once” and you will make your life easier. Check all measurements carefully before inevitably cutting your marvelous fabric. You will be very sorry if you make a mistake and you have to run to the store for a new cloth.

You have another opportunity to decorate simple options with additional finishes. Just attach the hook to the wall next to them and tie a nice tape around the curtain at that level. Then attach this eyelet to the wall hook. He will “pull” the curtains closer to the edges and give them a twist.

Do not let the iron touch the adhesive surface. It will melt and leave a sticky residue.
