DIY slim shoe cabinet. DIY shoe rack - different options for shoe cabinets. Hinges and clips

Taking care of piled up shoes is problematic. So that the boots do not get dirty, do not suffer from damp and dust, you need to install. The easiest way is to purchase a ready-made solution, but this is not always possible.

Here we will consider an alternative route - manufacturing is not simple, namely shoe racks with our own hands. We have to pick up tools and materials, determine the size and internal structure. At the end, diagrams, drawings and photographs await you.

The amount of material and the set of tools will depend on the chosen design. The following tools are useful for making a wooden cabinet:

 • drills (confirmation, 5 or 8 millimeters);
 • tape measure (square, ruler) and pencil;
 • a hammer;
 • screwdriver (can be replaced with a drill);
 • 4mm Allen key;
 • awl;
 • forstner drill;
 • template (its task is to make a marking for drilling).

Of course, if you are going to make a cardboard shoe box, the set will be different. But more on that later.

Want a more durable and cheaper shoe? Use chipboard sheets as material. In addition, you will need hardware:

 • pens;
 • euro screws;
 • shoe mechanism (if any);
 • screws;
 • decorative supports (you can do without them, but the structure will look more solid with supports).

For the carousel shelf, you will need metal pins (round shelves are attached to them) and a vertical post. Special tools (except for a drill) you do not need it at all. A complete list of materials for the "carousel" looks like this:

 • round pins (holders);
 • fiberboard discs;
 • plastic tips;
 • steel tube;
 • metal corners;
 • screws (plus lock washers to them);
 • half a liter of primer;
 • machine screws (together with nuts and washers);
 • acrylic paint.

More comfortable solutions are also possible (together with leather upholstery). Read about it below, as well as about the sizes of your own shoe racks.

Product dimensions

Product dimensions depend on the area of the hallway and the needs of the owner. Lonely people will have enough of a small locker, attached to, and a family of 3-4 people needs a full-fledged shoe rack, designed for 20-30 pairs. Shop models are often made in China, whose inhabitants have a strange tendency towards miniaturization.

Shoe racks can be wide. It is difficult to make a curbstone or make it yourself, so it is better to limit yourself to a simple cabinet. Product requirements are as follows:

 • functionality;
 • ergonomics;
 • good ventilation;
 • aesthetics;
 • spaciousness.

A minimalist shoe dryer does not need to take much space. Quite small and simple wall-mounted model. The parameters can be as follows:

 • facades (curly MDF boards or STRAIGHT chipboard) - 119.5x44.7 centimeters;
 • sidewalls (standard furniture boards) - 118.4x32 centimeters;
 • back wall (thin hardboard) - 119.5x89.5 cm;
 • drawers (can be purchased at furniture stores) - 86.8x10.

There are also more compact solutions. Most of them are mounted on the wall of the hallway or placed inside the wardrobe ("carousel"). The dimensions of such structures are much smaller.

To pick up perfect option for your hallway, we recommend using special design programs - you can download and install them on your computer. There are also finished projectscontaining diagrams, drawings and detailed tables with lists of parts.

How to make a shoe rack yourself

Exist different types homemade shoe designs to optimize the hallway space. Some of the solutions are quite complex - for example, a carousel shoe rack. We will not go down the path of complication and will deal with the simplest shoe cabinet designs made of cardboard and wood.

Consider an example of hand-assembled narrow shoe rack for a bachelor apartment. This design is designed for a small number of shoe pairs, and when assembling you need a drill, a hacksaw and a screwdriver. Here is a list of the materials you will need:

 • moisture resistant plywood (five sheets of 12 mm thickness);
 • long shoe brushes (the amount depends on the length of the shoe, the bristles must be stiff);
 • self-tapping screws for wood;
 • spikes (6 pieces of 6 mm);
 • acrylic paint;
 • construction glue (for wood);
 • brush;
 • transparent moisture resistant varnish;
 • dowels.

The shelf can be painted with gouache or acrylic - this is unimportant. The brushes act as shoe holders here. The assembly order is as follows:

 1. A block with brushes is assembled. Through holes are drilled in the plywood edge (6 pieces).
 2. Apply glue to the thorns and insert into the resulting holes.
 3. Similar "holes" are made in plywood C, which is connected to sheet B. You can press the parts with clamps - then the glue will set faster.
 4. Element D is attached to an existing structure.
 5. The handles of the brushes are sawn off (you can buy brushes without handles - it will be cheaper).
 6. In the brushes, a pair of through holes are drilled, after which they are attached along the entire length of the structure (one centimeter from the edge) by means of short self-tapping screws.
 7. Unused parts A and E are drilled.
 8. All fragments of the shelf are fastened with self-tapping screws.
 9. The penultimate touch is painting the shoe rack. You can involve small family members in the process. Decoupage and other creative experiments are encouraged.
 10. The wall of the hallway is being drilled. Dowels are installed, the shelf is suspended.

We have also prepared for you several useful videos that will teach you how to create shoe racks with your own hands.

Narrow shoe racks - the best decision for small hallways? Do not believe me, watch the following video:

The following video will also tell you how to assemble a shoe rack with your own hands:

Do you want a shoe rack for more comfortable removal of boots? Then the following video will definitely come in handy:

You can create hanging and floor shoe racks from cardboard with your own hands. The hanging shelf is made of dense, high-strength cardboard; you can store demi-season shoe pairs in it. You will need an unnecessary box (it's easy to get one in stores) and other things:

 • furniture knife (can be replaced with large scissors);
 • joiner's glue;
 • large scotch tape;
 • ruler and pencil;
 • stapler (staples to it must be large).

The cardboard is laid out on flat surface, after which you divide it (with a pencil) into several rectangular sections. The height will be 30 centimeters, and the length is comparable to the width of the cardboard. The rectangle is divided in half and bent - the side walls must be hammered with equal triangles (the vertices will look down).

By folding the rectangles, you form the boxes. Glue their edges with tape to protect them from moisture. The boxes are inserted into the grooves of the neighbors and fixed with wood glue - this way you get a single structure. Attach hooks on top and secure the product to the wall.

A floor shoe rack is formed in a similar way, but it is not attached to the wall.

The downside of this solution is its extreme instability. Cardboard is a lightweight material, so floor-standing shoe racks can be knocked over by hitting the edge of your coat.

Shoe rack made of cardboard

Made of wood

Using wood and metal strips as the main components, you can build a fairly stable shoe rack that adequately takes its place in the hallway. You can save money by replacing the tree with chipboard or fiberboard. The thickness of the sheets should be about one and a half centimeters.

You will also need special strips made of stainless steel. The slats are cylindrical. In total, you need to get eight of these parts.

Please note: the cross-sectional diameter of the strips is two centimeters. Brackets and clips will also come in handy (flanges and screws). And here is a list of DIY tools:

 • pencil and ruler;
 • screwdriver;
 • sander;
 • jigsaw;
 • nails;
 • compass;
 • a hammer.

So, how to make a wooden shoe cabinet with your own hands? The process begins by cutting out the back and side walls. Usually, the height of the shoe rack is arbitrary, and the width is 23 centimeters. This will allow you to make a two-tiered shoe rack.

The back wall is cut out at the very beginning - it will consist of a pair of thin strips. The shelf should be 20 centimeters wide. Having cut out a fragment with a jigsaw, you need to sand the edges and deal with the side walls.

First, you need to mark up a couple of rectangles of the same type. With a pencil, compasses and a ruler, mark the front rounding. Roundings are cut with a jigsaw, then the walls are sanded and fastened into a single section.

The final assembly of a shoe rack with your own hands. Here is the procedure:

 1. The attachment points of the flanges are marked.
 2. By means of strips, the side walls are fastened together.
 3. The back walls are nailed to back side (butt) sides.

The scheme can be complicated if desired. Alternatively, replace the chipboard with wood and cover the upper part with leather.

Shoes are a passion of many women. How many pairs of shoes do you need for different occasions? Business meeting shoes, comfortable walking boots, soft indoor slippers. What then to say when it comes to a family where everyone needs boots or sneakers. Therefore, everyone faces the problem of storing it.

It is often difficult to install a spacious shelf in a small hallway. Shelves and cabinets just don't fit into your narrow hallway.

In this case, you need to contact a custom-made furniture workshop. Moreover, such services are more expensive than standard solutions for factory production.

But you can solve the issue differently. Make a wardrobe with your own hands.

Shelves

The materials for the cabinet can be chipboard and MDF boards, as well as plywood and natural wood.

It should be borne in mind that plywood and wood are much more expensive than chipboard. But furniture made from these materials is more durable and in comparison with Particleboard is better tolerates a humid environment.

Chipboard and MDF boards, unlike wood, do not require additional processing.

The compressed structure of MDF makes the material quite durable. It is quite easy to work with this material. Also consider its weight. We recommend using MDF only as a facade.

Chipboards have a wide range of colors. Therefore, it will be quite easy to fit the curbstone into the interior of the hallway.

As an additional decoration, you can order milling on the plate. This will make her unique.

Diy curbstone

Boot box for sneakers, sandals and boots and folding drawers.

In this article we will look at the process of making a cabinet, the frame of which is made of 16 mm chipboard. Partitions are made chipboard 10 mm.

Let's play with a two-color layout. From dark alder we will make the sidewalls, roof, internal upright and bottom, and from light alder - the facades.

You can give your drawings and they will cut out the chipboard slabs in a store that has special equipment. It is also possible to include in the order the gluing of the edging tape.

But if you are on a limited budget or want to train your skills, then you can do it yourself at home. But it must be borne in mind that without a specialized tool and certain skills, it will not be easy to avoid chips.

How to glue the edge yourself?

The edge happens paper and plastic.

To glue the edge at home, you need:

 1. Apply special glue to the edge.
 2. Heat the iron to maximum temperature.
 3. Through thick fabric press the edge with slight pressure.
 4. Remove glue residues.

Cabinet details

Details from wood-laminated plates 16 mm, dark alder color:

 • roof - 1100 × 250−1 piece.;
 • bottom - 1100 × 250−1 piece.;
 • sidewall - 668 × 250−2 pieces.;
 • internal rack - 668 × 250−1 piece .;
 • internal horizontal flat piece of wood - 526 × 250-3 pieces.

 • back wall - 696 × 1096−1 pcs.

Components:

 • galoshes - 192 × 287 × 85 × 16−4 set;
 • handle - 4 pcs.;
 • thrust bearing - 6 pcs.;
 • confirmations - 1 pack;
 • self-tapping screws - 1 pack.

How to assemble?

To assemble the frame, we need:

 • sidewall - 2 pcs.;
 • roof.

We tighten the frame with the help of the company. To do this, you will need a screwdriver and a bit for companies.

The final stage will be the installation of the back wall of the fiberboard.

Installing the shoe rack

Dimensions and measurements must always be done in advance. So that you can know in advance what dimensions the final product will be.

We mark the attachment points for the axis of rotation and the stop pin. We fasten the mechanisms to the sidewalls. Mounting dimensions and drawings are shown below.

Each shoe cabinet has a drawing and installation diagram in the kit. According to the drawings, we make markings for fastening.

We fasten the shoe rack to the sidewalls using self-tapping screws. Shoe cabinet must have free movement.

We connect parts made of 10 mm chipboard with plastic parts. We insert the shoe cabinet elements into the grooves and sit on the screws to the left sidewall. Next, we fasten to vertical partition... Let's do the same on the back side.

The final stage is the installation of facades. We use double-sided tape for this.

Then we attach the handles to the facades and install thrust bearings.

A hand-made curbstone will delight the eye and delight with its functionality, will make movement in the hallway more comfortable. Your slippers will always be in place.

Organizer made of fabric or cardboard

Quite convenient and easy to carry.

Consider the case when the corridor is so small that there is no place for a bedside table at all. In this case, an organizer will come to our aid. You can buy it in the store, as well as do it yourself. The material for the manufacture of the organizer can be a cloth or cardboard box.

If there is a closet in the hallway with a suitable niche, then organizers can be placed in it. We lay them on top of each other and set by surprise... In the manufacturing process, we soak it 3 times with a water-repellent spray or a solution of water and PVA glue. Thus, our product will have greater rigidity.

DIY cardboard shelf

This is the most a budget option shelves. And everything you need to make it can be found at home.

You will need:

 1. cardboard;
 2. ruler;
 3. pencil;
 4. pVA glue;
 5. scissors or carpenter's knife;
 6. stapler;
 7. scotch.

The most budgetary option when necessary materials or no money.

Spread a piece of cardboard on the floor. We cut out rectangles from it 45 by 30 cm in size. We form triangles with a height of 30 cm from cardboard. This is one cell of our shoe rack. We connect them in a row. The edges must be sealed with tape to prevent tearing of the cardboard.

This is a great solution for country houses... The disadvantages of such a shelf are instability and low reliability. Therefore, it is better to put it in a niche.

You can also design an organizer out of thick paper or wood right on the cabinet door.

Shoe rack on the cabinet door made of cardboard:

 • cut rectangles,
 • roll a pocket out of them,
 • insert them into each other,
 • fasten to the cabinet door.

Shelf made of wooden planks:

 • Attach a wooden strip to the cabinet door.
 • Insert your sneakers, sandals or sneakers into the gap between the wardrobe and the bar.

Open version. Convenient enough to operate.

You can also make an open version of the product from wooden planks or boxes. In such a shelf, the thing will dry well. But dust will also collect on it.

You can combine objects and create a shoe rack that is completely unique in design, which will not only collect all the shoes, but will also decorate your hallway. You can use the most ordinary objects for your own ideas: pipes, glass bottles.

So, you can see that there are many solutions for how to organize and store shoes even in the narrowest hallway. Decide which one suits you best. Choose a shoe rack design with moving or static shelves.

Often, in the process of decorating and arranging various premises, people face certain difficulties, since they cannot find the optimal furniture for the chosen style. In this case, the perfect solution is self-production different subjects interior. In the hallway, there may be limited space and unusual shapes of the room, so a do-it-yourself shoe cabinet is created, perfectly suitable for the site chosen for it.

Initially, you should decide on what material will be used for work, as well as what shape and dimensions the future structure will have. The most commonly used materials for these purposes:

 • MDF, which allows you to get environmentally friendly, reliable, inexpensive and resistant structures to various influences;
 • Particleboard is the most available material, but it is important to make sure that there is no formaldehyde in it, and also due to the fragility of the material, you should work with it carefully so as not to damage it;
 • plywood has good quality and durability, therefore it is quite often used to create various interior items, but when using it, you need to pay attention and spend money on finishing the structures being created;
 • natural wood is considered perfect solution for making shoe cabinets with your own hands, as it is environmentally friendly, beautiful and reliable.

If there is no way to spend a lot of money on the curbstone, then chipboard is chosen. If you choose high-quality material, then it will be quite durable and reliable, and with proper care it will last a long time. It is incredibly easy to work with it, so the process of creating a structure does not require significant investment, and you do not need to have any specific skills or use unusual tools.

After choosing the material, the preparation of all the elements that will be used in the process of work begins, these include:

 • the chipboard itself, and plates are produced in numerous colors, which makes it possible to create a design for shoes in the hallway with an optimal shade;
 • fittings designed to open doors if it is supposed to create a closed piece of furniture;
 • tools, which include a screwdriver and a screwdriver, bits for self-tapping screws and confirmations, as well as an awl and drill for confirmations.

Most often, slabs of two different colors are chosen for this design - wenge and a light shade, since this combination provides a really attractive bedside table that fits well into different interiors. No complicated and unusual tools are required for work, since the shoe cabinet is considered simple to create, therefore, no specific fasteners or complex connections are used.

Detailing

This process involves the exact determination of the size of all the details that will be needed in the process of forming this piece of furniture. Detailing makes it possible to end up with a really high-quality design, in which all parts have the right dimensions, and also there are no distortions or other disadvantages.

The main details of the future bedside table include:

 • roof and bottom of the product - 1100 * 250 mm;
 • sidewall and inner support part - 2 parts from chipboard 668 * 250 mm;
 • internal shelves, located horizontally - 3 parts measuring 526 * 250 mm;
 • facades - 2 parts 311x518 mm;
 • partitions for galoshes located inside the structure - 4 parts 510x135 mm in size, 4 parts - 510x85 mm and 4 parts - 510x140 mm;
 • rear wall - 1 piece measuring 696x1096 mm.

When using such parts, it is ensured that a sufficiently voluminous and easy-to-use cabinet is obtained, equipped with 4 sets of shoe boxes, handles and thrust bearings.

Preparation of parts

As soon as all the necessary drawings have been made, on the basis of which the process of creating a structure is carried out, as well as detailing, you can start preparing the parts. This process is considered not too complicated, therefore it is easy for beginners.

Beforehand, a special scheme of the future bedside table must certainly be made, since it must be used when forming various parts, otherwise there is a high probability that there will be various irregularities or other problems in the design.

How to make details? The procedure for their creation is divided into stages:

 • a large Whatman paper is being prepared, onto which the drawings are transferred, so optimal patterns will be obtained;
 • they are carefully cut out, after which they are applied to the chipboard sheets;
 • the paper is securely fixed to the plates;
 • cutting of parts begins, and for this you can use a jigsaw, a special knife for wood or other tool.

Particularly much attention must be paid to the evenness of the cut out parts, otherwise the resulting structure will not have perfect evenness.

Edging of parts is considered another significant point. This process can be done with a paper or plastic edging. Since all actions are performed at home, a paper edge is usually used. This is due to the fact that when using a plastic product, a specialized machine and a professional expensive glue are required, which heats up to high temperature, which guarantees excellent adhesion between the cabinet parts. Therefore, people who are independently doing this work choose paper edges. It is advisable to perform the cladding with a sufficiently thick edge, the thickness of which will not be less than 2 mm, due to which the shoe cabinet will not only be beautiful, but also resistant to various influences.

Assembly

As soon as all the details necessary to create a cabinet in the hallway with your own hands are prepared, you can start connecting them, which guarantees the assembly of the structure. During the assembly process, you should constantly focus on pre-made drawings, and also engage in checking, since often certain parts are created incorrectly, so they need to be adjusted.

To assemble the bedside table correctly, the correct sequence of actions is taken into account to complete this process:

 • first, the frame of the future structure is assembled, for which 4 main parts are used, and these include the bottom and cover, as well as two sidewalls;
 • confirmations are usually used to assemble the box, since all the same, different plugs from them will not be visible, and also minifixes or furniture corners of suitable size are often used for these purposes;
 • after receiving a reliable box, the installation of internal elements begins, and they are fixed to the sides and bottom with the help of confirmations, but they are attached to each other and to the roof using metal corners;
 • then the rear wall of the structure is mounted, and usually it is completely created from thin fiberboard, since significant loads will not affect it, and it will not be used for any purpose, therefore it acts only as a decorative element.

When attaching the back wall, you can check the evenness of the product obtained, since if there are any distortions, they will be immediately visible, and if they are detected, it is recommended to redo the product.

Thus, it is quite simple to assemble a chest of drawers or a cabinet on your own. Photos of different such homemade designs presented below, and each owner of residential real estate has the opportunity to embody their own unique ideas, so an original and unique product will be obtained, perfectly suitable for a particular corridor.

Fixing castors

How to assemble a shoe rack (galoshnoshka), should know every person who is going to purchase this necessary element of furniture for the corridor. Often the instruction comes complete, but still more often have to navigate on the spot. Usually the whole process takes no more than a few hours, but there are exceptions.

Shoe racks themselves were very popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They could be found in almost every house in the most various options: from ordinary boards or an array. Currently, they are just an element of decor that fits perfectly into the interior of any hallway, moreover, they allow you to store shoes as compactly as possible, no matter how many of them.

Assembly process

For work you will need:

 • level;
 • roulette;
 • cordless screwdriver;
 • screwdrivers;
 • a hammer.

During the purchase in the store, it is advisable to ask the seller if there are any special nuances during assembly. Such features can be expressed in hinge attachments, interlocking elements (if any) and propulsion system, if any. The whole assembly process is concluded in 4 points:

When unpacking, you should be extremely careful and careful so as not to damage any of the parts (the box must also remain intact, because if there is a defect inside, it is she who will serve as a guarantor that the defect was factory). After unpacking, all parts are carefully checked for defects and recounted. If possible, this process is carried out while the forwarder (delivery service) has not yet left the premises. This approach with witnesses from the seller will completely secure the purchase in the event of a defect.
Large pieces of furniture are assembled at home exclusively on the floor. If there is a carpet in the room, then it is better to twist it so as not to clean it again later (and it is very tedious to look for small accessories in the carpet). The process takes some time, so it is better to deal with it on the weekend or at sunset, when there are no other things left. You also need to carefully consider the presence of walls around, so as not to damage anything, and cardboard or other dense material is lined on the floor.

For assembly, a diagram is not required, even if it is available, because everything is always intuitive. During assembly, special screws for chipboard are usually used, for which holes are made in advance (no self-respecting manufacturer will allow himself to sell unprepared material). With the help of short studs, the back wall is fixed (sometimes also on screws). After everything is assembled, you need to close the excess metal with plugs that also come in the kit.
With the help of the level everything is checked thoroughly. If irregularities are revealed, then it is quite possible to remove the plug and stretch or align the required element.

Shoe storage is a problem for many families. Indeed, today each of the household has several pairs that are worn on different occasions. The rest of the time, shoes, boots and boots need to be stored somewhere. And it is desirable not in sight, but closer so that you can immediately take it when you need it.

Of course, it is better to store seasonal shoes in the dressing room or on the mezzanine, but the one that is needed, if not today, then tomorrow, requires a spacious shoe rack in the corridor or hallway. There are few such items in furniture stores, the choice is small. And even then most of the presented shoe racks (which is also called shoe racks) are part of the furniture sets for the hallways.

But to get a good roomy shoe rack is not a problem. This item is easy to build yourself. The material will require a little and the most ordinary. An ordinary tool is also needed for such a business, which is likely to be found in every home.

Table of contents:

What is a shoe rack?

A shoe box is a functional furniture complex that ensures the correct maintenance of shoes that are worn on a daily basis, as well as orderly storage of seasonal shoes.
The durability of shoe pairs, their wear and good appearance, largely depend on its quality.

Even if you are lucky enough to buy a shoe rack in a store, the price of the simplest model will turn out to be at least 5,000 rubles, while, having worked with your own hands, you can keep within 1,500-2,000 rubles. So worth a try. Moreover, it is not difficult if you follow the instructions and do not disregard the practical advice of experienced furniture makers.

Traditional shoe rack

The simplest shoe cabinet is a 2-row floor shelf made of 6-10 mm plywood:

Shoes with ankle top are placed on top of such a cabinet, and the rest is placed in the interior. This shoe rack is good for everyone, it just “eats” the usable space at least half a meter in length and 0.4 m in width. Therefore, it is completely unacceptable for narrow corridors and small hallways of small apartments.

However, the lack of space is not a reason to abandon the idea of placing family shoes correctly. Moreover, among the modern designs of shoe racks, you can always choose a simple and compact model equipped with a simple mechanism for independent production.

Shoe shop now

For self-execution from modern shoe racks, you can choose the following options:

 1. A wardrobe with pull-out compartments for out of season shoes (3 pieces - for 3 "unused" seasons) + a closed or open compartment for couples who are currently wearing.
 2. Shoe-bench for spacious halls, corridors and hallways with openwork shelves-dryers under the seat.
 3. A pouf with an opening door for very small spaces.
 4. Petal shoe, the shoes in which are stored almost upright on the shelves of the folding trays, reinforced with rotary sector sidewalls, petals. This design is compact and provides excellent ventilation and drying of stored shoes, boots, boots, etc.
 5. A bedside table with a shoe rack that can accommodate all family shoes in a compact size.
 6. Monoblock of bedside tables and seats, which is a good option with enough space.
 7. Shoe rack - "carousel", the contents of which are asymmetrically divided into 4 seasons.

Materials and compounds

The best materials for creating do-it-yourself shoe boxes are coniferous wood and plywood. A porous coniferous tree will absorb a possible excess of moisture, and if there is insufficient moisture in the shoebox, it will give it up.

If shoes will be displayed in a drawer or on open shelves only after high-quality drying, you can use chipboard (12 mm, class E0, E1 or E2) or MDF to create a structure.

And when metal or plastic is chosen as the material for the shoe, the finished product must be open-type, otherwise the shoes stored there will not “breathe” and dry at all.

How to make shoe racks?

Petal

The most correct for storing shoes are petal shoe racks. And they are quite affordable for DIY.

The main details in the petal designs are the same petal inserts. They are not cheap and ready to buy, but it is quite difficult to execute them on their own (although it is possible, of course). To make such inserts with your own hands, you will need either sheet metal, or plywood (6 mm impregnated with water-based varnish for rigidity), or durable plastic with a thickness of 4 mm or more.

First, you will need to complete a drawing of that petal shoe rack that you especially like. For example:

Here, each of the trays is two-tier, and for shoes with a bootleg you will have to add a locker, since it will not fit into the tray (and this circumstance is considered the only drawback of shoe racks of this type).

The height of each section in such a design starts from 300 mm + 6 mm for each gap, upper and lower. You will also need to make a similar gap (6 mm) between the front panel of the shoe rack and the lid of the tray - this is for ventilation.

The pocket-sinus, which is located above the upper tray, must be ventilated. But for these purposes it is better to use not a gap, but to make holes in a row with a diameter of 40 mm on the back wall.

Ball clips or removable pins are placed on the middle shelf at point A (it is marked in red in the drawing), with the help of which, during the operation of the future product, it will be possible to adjust the position of the shelf depending on its contents.

The dimensions, as well as the arrangement of trays, can be seen in the following diagram:

A feature of this design are the swivel joint sockets, which are simply drilled in brackets from a steel corner, fixed from the inside to the front sheathing of the shoe. Folding latches are also attached to the same brackets if they are far from the sides of the structure. And when done this way, the tray front cover can be any height. This means that the petal shoe will be able to accept for storage and shoes with a high top, too, provided that the front sheathing of the structure is strong enough and not fragile (which is why drywall as building material not suitable for such a shoe).

Hinges and clips

The swivel joint is one of the trickiest assemblies in petal (and some other) shoe racks. It’s better to just buy it. However, when this is not possible, you can try to make it yourself. This will require pieces of a thin-walled tube without seams (preferably brass). It can also be pieces of hulls ballpoint pens or, for example, knee connectors from old fishing rods.

The procedure for making a hinge for a folding shoe tray with your own hands is described in the following instructions:

 1. From the prepared tube, it will be necessary to cut off parts (2 for each of the hinges), the length of which is equal to the depth of the hinge socket.
 2. Further, with a scraper (or a rimmer, or perhaps by scraping), it will be necessary to remove the chamfers from the inside of the clips by 0.25-0.35 mm.
 3. Then it will be necessary to select bolts with a round head to the clips, the diameter of which should fit the clearance (up to 0.5 mm) of the clip. The burrs on such heads are removed with a file, and you can adjust the head to the clip with sandpaper.
 4. Then you need to drill holes for the clips using a Forstner drill. And this drill should be of such a diameter that then the clips fit into the holes tightly enough.
 5. Next, the clips must be pressed into the holes. If they enter freely, it is necessary to glue them with any glue for metal.
 6. Now you need to insert the bolts into the corresponding holes of the petal gaskets. And tighten with nuts on the spring washers.

After completing the manipulations, the hinges are considered ready for subsequent assembly.

Rack and cabinet

Shelving is the optimal design for long-term storage a large number shoes (up to 30 pairs).However, it will require about 0.6 sq m of usable area for its placement. Under this design, it would be better to take the dressing room. Moreover, the rack does not have a back wall - it is attached directly to the wall with self-tapping screws (6x70 mm in plastic dowels) on steel corners. In this case, it is better to make the shelves and walls from laminated chipboard (20 mm) and timber (30x30 mm).

Important: Such a rack is universal. And it can be added in sections for how much space is enough. And the wall behind it may be weak, not necessarily load-bearing. After all, the fastening of the structure is dispersed.

As for the shoe cabinet, it is more compact than the rack and can fit in the passage, the width of which is 1.5 m. The length can reach 2 m. The shelves of such a cabinet are of the same design, and they can be fixed to the sidewalls with corners or dowels on ordinary shelf holders or in milling grooves.

And with ventilation, the same option is possible as with the rack: without a back wall with a clearance of 40 mm from the wall (this is just the width of the floor plinth). The back plates are made from the same board as the shelves with partitions.

Organizers

If there is no place to organize shoe storage at all, a system such as an organizer can help out. At the same time, you will only get an organizer cabinet in the store, which requires at least 2 square meters of space for installation. And for very small rooms it is better to use a shoe organizer, which fits easily under the bed. The price of such a suitcase is not too high, but if there are not enough funds, you can build an organizer yourself by gluing together a sufficient number of shoe boxes. And to design a similar design can be interesting, with imagination. It will turn out no worse, if not better than the store one.

If there is a suitable niche in the apartment (for example, in the corridor), then the cardboard shoe organizer can be positioned so that the sides of the niche give rigidity to the entire structure. For the same purpose, the sides of shoe boxes can be impregnated with a water-polymer emulsion or PVA diluted with water 2-3 times.

About Dryers and Dryers

Before storing shoes in a shoe rack, whatever they are, you need to dry them properly. But it is more correct to do this without using purchased electric dryers. After all, the task of such devices is fast extreme drying, which, with regular use, can seriously harm shoes. For shoes, boots, boots, etc. peeling of the sole and cracking of the upper are possible.

High-quality drying of shoes is possible only in natural conditions, in an inclined position, with socks down. You can, for example, bend a stylish drying organizer out of plastic, securing it with a zigzag. Or by fixing metal pins on the timber-frame base.

At home, you can quickly build an effective drying with absorbent stone chips. Put together a small box with low sides. And fill it with crushed dolomite, which has excellent moisture-absorbing properties. Shoes should be put on such a dryer clean, wiped dry on the outside. They dry even faster silica gel, rounded sea pebbles or shells poured into such a box with a thin layer.
